That is such a beautiful sound. People were telling me that a low F extension would sound bad and be a terrible option, and I was just baffled at their simple though process. This is amazing. Fantastic work here, truly sublime.
I love that sound. I'm still looking for a good 5-String violin. A 5-String cello and 5-String violin Duet would be pretty awesome. Think what Ravel and Debussy could have done with that combination. Great playing. Love the Porgy and Bess.
You could even use a Hipshot tuner to extend the low F down to E (or lower). Thank you for doing this, I had been wondering (for a fictional story with a string quartet in it) whether a cello would still sound decent down there. It does. The lack of power isn't a huge problem when it only has to compete with a viola and a pair of violins, so I'm declaring this one PLAUSIBLE. And for your jazz pizzicato at the end, you'd have to amplify to be heard behind a big band anyhow, at which point a little EQ could be applied. I think someone would have to use their _eyes_ to know it wasn't a bass then.
Лучше сделайте "виолончель" из контрабаса 1/8, строй E3A2D2G1 (на 2 октавы ниже скрипки). Данный инструмент будет большой виолончелью с акустически наполненным звуком

Rocco Tarli Frankly in terms of era downtuning by half step is technically baroque tuning, and with a standard cello you might as well call it Open B like on a guitar.
Does the low F buzz against the fingerboard? Or does the fingerboard have a bevel at the F string (instead of a steady radius)? Or is the scale length maybe a bit longer? And how would you describe the sound of the low F in person, can the cello body cover these lows? Sorry for the many questions. I don't see many instruments like this around - especially not played like this! Wow, kudos.
Thanks for your coment! ・About the instrument This cello was originaly a High E 5string cello. And I just replaced the string to a Low F set. Neon Sky I don’t think tuning would be much of a pain although an F string would be way more tensive than an A string. Even getting it to a half step below tuning would be ideal, given the opportunity to work with a low E.
I'm just looking to play songs in B, Bb, and A without just hitting another guitar note. Only pizz. for the bottom string, it's gypsy jazz. Could still take arco solos without the A string, just not in thirds with the violin.

His elbow isn’t raised high enough, see. Raised elbow = more leverage and independence of the arm instead of leaning all the weight on the instrument itself.
You classical people are so full of dogma's. The guy plays well enough. He is a great musician and plays many styles well. Let him make his vibrato how he chooses to and choose a position that is comfortable for him.
0:57 that pizzicato to arco transition was soooo smoooooooth! 😎🎵
This sounds very different from a double bass! I love it!

Для "фа" контроктавы лучше приобести контрабас 1/8 он по размеру чуть больше виолончели 4/4 ,почти никто и не заметит)

Sounds great! Nice playing. Where did you find the F-String? Which manufacturer?
Veit Steinmann
Thanks! It's a NS design(D'addario)string made for CR6
Thanks!

low f sounds like a double bass
Cuz the f is just 1/2 tone above the lowest note on a 4 string double bass
Omg thank you Mike it's been a while
So a more convenient double bass? Awesome!
frigging amazing dude!!
*_Double bassist has left the chat._*
just lower it down to low E and you got a double bass with very high pitched strings without sounding like crap
aknyaw 😆

hello, I’m looking for a 5 string cello, do you know where you can buy it? you can help me? Thank you very much

can you put the 5th string on a regular cello? like "D G C F" ?
I'd suppose you could, although keeping it tuned would be one mighty feat of patience.
I think it will be ok!

Very nice tone! But why do I see only 3 tuning pegs?
Does that cello have wider bouts and ribs compared to a standard 4 string model?
They should make a fifth tuned upright bass one octave lower than that.
Upright bass? The f string only need to be downtuned by half a step to get the bottom note of either an upright or a guitar bass.
I exists kinda. An "octobass" that is
Same bottom note as a double base with solo tuning. Going down to E would be a sixth interval and make playing far more difficult.
Double bass with solo tuning is actually a F#, so not quite the same.
Why is the cello moving with his vibrato? I am a cello player that would be horrific when you are on
a concert :0

@@topsecret1837 Now I get what you mean. Thanks
Actually it has nothing to do with having a fifth string, it's more about the way he's sitting to make the video.
