I am sorry about the technical issues with the first upload of this video. I noticed a glitch and I wasn’t happy with putting out a sub par video as these really were special. I hope you have a wonderful day and take care. 😊🦞💙
Lobstergram for Mr. Mongo... Lobstergram for Mr. Mongo! Sorry, had to say it with a modified quote from Blazing Saddles. Terrific job John!
I'm still waiting to meet up with you when you fly across the pond. We're hitting the South Fork of the Shenandoah River in Virginia this weekend and expect to do very well in the fishing department I might add. I'll keep canoes on standby reservation for you and the family too!
John, Good man! Thanks for returning them. I worked on lobster boats here in Maine, USA. It is illegal here to keep lobsters under 3 1/4 inches or over 5 inches carapace length. We also "V" notch breeders. Allowing the large ones to live keeps those good genes in the population. Sustainability is very important. Maybe you might lobby your politicians to pass a law setting a maximum legal limit there also. It's good stewardship of the resource. Lobster men here traditionally followed those rules before they were made law. So, we catch lobsters that big fairly often.
We had a public aquarium here that had one that was probably 4 times their size. It was so big, I didn't believe it was real until it moved.
@Fun With Minerals - If I was to take that attitude what’s the point of anything?
Why you not out on the new boat ?
Heads up when double uploading the same video. It is UA-cam algorithm death sentence. Still a great and educational video though. I hope this video is safe from UA-cams automation.
Putting them back is a wondeful thing for you to do. Well done! Respect!
Just doing what we thought was right. 😊🦞
John - Well done on a personal lobster best pair catch. I recommend that you make sure you have that spot tagged and let it lay fallow for a bit. Not only for ethical fishing reasons so you don't deplete any other large ones in the vicinity, but with your recent spate of lurkers, including the red boat stalker, you should not use this position because it seems obvious to me that someone is watching your videos and will attempt to 'check your pots for you' in the future. Great job and stay stealthy!
Very cool to put them back, Huge pair of old lobsters
@@mstrdiver John has been so patient with the b*****ds. I'd have cast a lead through the wheelhouse window by now
@@jonfisher9214 - I know he has. Don't you just absolutely hate when the line 'breaks' and a fishing weight 'accidentally takes out a window'? ;-)
Imagine that simple V notch John has given to those GIGANTICLY HUGE lobsters, protected them for another 20 YEARS!!!!! 20!!!! I mean my god what a legend! Seriously a Legend you are John! Like he mentioned those breeding pairs by that time would've made at least an extra 20,000 Beautiful Lobsterlings and the cycle of life keeps going!!!! Massive massive thank you john for keeping them amazing creatures thriving and teaching the UK Foraging/Fishing community the ethics and morality of fishing/foraging and also to the WORLD!
I was simply doing what I felt was right, and being able to use this as a teaching point for our son was just perfect. 😊🦞🦞
@@TheFishLocker well done!
@@TheFishLocker The USA has made eating lobster a gluttonous mindless sport with people seeking all you can eat thousands of lobsters en masse thrown on a table. It’s why I’ve come to watch your channel. Thank you.
Only until the same dickheads who steals Johns and other persons pots gets one with her in it. OR until the policing gets that slack that it becomes a moot point. Shite I'd like to get all warm and fuzzy here, but it's 2024 and Johns BRIGHT ORANGE and quite UNUSUAL lobster pots haven't been found. That says something.
Dude. I was waiting on the catch and cook with those massive lobsters. Then I saw your humanity take over. You're a good man. And teaching the youngster at the same time. Good man indeed. Cheers to you from Alabama.
Thank you Chad and take car sir. 😊
not even just humanity, if you think about it if you keep killing off the big ones then you are effectively just neutering the gene pool to produce smaller and smaller stock over time, which is a phenomenon you can already see in other species already like the blue fin.
This has got to be the most morally genuine video I've ever seen!
The giddiness and happiness of this man radiates to the moon and beyond.
Thank you for protecting the grand lobsters!
So much respect
Thank you very much, I was simply doing what I felt was right. Best wishes and have a wonderful day. 😊
Well done you! Thank you for returning such magnificent lobsters back to breed for another 40 years. John, you are so honourable. So many others would not act as you have. I am proud to be a subscriber as that was brilliant viewing. 👍👏👍👏👍
I am so very glad to have you as part of our community. Take care and have a wonderful day 🦞😊
😘😅
😘😅
If it had been April 1st you could have pretended to do them as live bait for a 200lb cod.
Much prefer the sound on this compared to the DJi, not read your comments on that but maybe it sounded a bit weak compared to the GoPro? The video seemed fine of course.
All of your video's are top notch.
love your ethical work, the lobsters will enjoy being in your waters
Those were HUGE! 😂😂. I am so proud of you for being so good about protecting them! Most people would have eaten them but you respect nature too much to destroy the those two old timers. Good on you!! ❤️
I put more value on teaching James about the right way to respect the world that we live in. 🦞😊💙
@@TheFishLocker As you should! Good Dad. 😊
I doubt most people have a cauldron big enough to fit those monsters in!
Every time I see the reverence you have for the sustainable nature of fishing and conservation I feel heartened there are folks like you out there passing on the knowledge, traditions of your community. Cheers! From California
Thank you. I am simply doing what I feel is right. 😊
@@TheFishLocker Cheers man! Ive just subscribed!
Thanks for your excellent videos, knowledge and respect for nature. I'd love to learn more about edible plants in my neck of the woods.
My father was a scuba instructor and sport diver in the '60s. Back then, nobody thought twice about harvesting the ocean's riches. He took lots of fish, 'bugs' and abalone out of the ocean off the coast of California and it helped feed our family. We had a pile of abalone shells the size of a VW Beetle on the side of our house. Thinking back, I feel sorta bad about that.
These days I fish for trout in the mountains, use barbless hooks and put them all back unless I'm really hungry and desperate on a back country adventure.
My good friend is a sushi chef. I love it 'raw and wigglin', but I often wonder where it all comes from and how long before it's all gone. Fortunately, sushi portions are pretty small and its really filling food.
A true shepherd of the seas , a man who seems truly happy at work, respect!!
I am always happy when I’m there Jim. ☺️👍
I just knew the second that you landed those 2 lobsters that they would be going back home. Everything you do in regards to sustainability of stock would dictate your need to protect those 2 old lobsters. A fantastic lesson to be shared with everyone.
If old lobsters had heroes, you would be their number 1
I actually thought when he said he was calling Hannah that he was going to arrange for somewhere like the lobster hatchery to take them as a breeding pair but i guess straight back is less stressful to the fish
You've just made a 77 year old animal lover choke up with tears in his eyes. I have a hunch you're in the habit of doing the same thing even when no one will even know. It's called 'character' and it's an elusive quality not enough of us naturally display in our lifestyles. Godspeed John!
I am glad that you share our views on life and the world. I have been doing this for most of my life - the filming of it is a recent thing. Take care and have a wonderful day. 😊
Sat here at 10pm alone in my room absolutely beaming smile on my face just seeing how pleased you were with those Lobsters John, absolute pleasure to watch. Thank you for letting them go, you’re an angel. Wow. Thank you & take care x
Thanks Honey, I certainly was thrilled to see the sheer size of them! 🤣
I tip my hat to you John, a fantastic catch and awesome release congratulations and well done. I sincerely hope people watching will have the same ethos as your family

I was hoping you was going to put them beasts back well done m8 class bloke great vid again by the way.👍
My pleasure mate. 😊🦞🦞
Thank you for not taking those two - I was wondering how old you thought they were - 60 is amazing. I had a diver friend who had a huge lobster claw from off the coast of New Jersey USA. He said he regretted taking it once he found out how old that lobster probably was. They were gorgeous - thanks for the video!
I can understand how he must have felt. I think back about ones I've taken in my youth that I would now have returned.
Was thrilled when you put them back. You obviously love & respect Nature.
I am glad that it transfers across in the videos. It is something we are teaching our children also, take only what you need and treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊🦞
Hi John, well done on both the catch and the dignity with which you treated those magnificent animals. You are a fine example to your young son.
We are just doing what we feel is right. 😊🦞
I do hope those who live on the coast and watch these videos learn from what you did in this one. Like you said, you could have landed those Lobster but you felt you had a moral obligation to return them. Makes your viewers happy as well as the Lobsters. Well done mate, your son is learning from a cracking dad. Have a great Father's day on Sunday.
It is my pleasure and I truly hope that our videos may encourage others to take an interest in the natural world around them. 🦞😊
I was so relieved to see that you released the pair of dinosaur lobsters! I would have wanted to admire them for a little while, too! It was nice that you brought your son with you to release them and show him what to do! Best wishes to you and your family.
Not only did I want to share the experience but I thought it would be a good teaching point for him. 😊🦞
Found this channel by chance, but what a find. I’m hooked as with most people one of the past times when on holiday was looking in tidal rock pools seeing if their was something interesting. Also the fact he couldn’t fetch himself to take those two magnificent lobsters on moral groups shows he has a respect for the sea and the creatures he harvest’s. One hell of a likeable bloke really
Hi Mark, sorry for the late response these comments have somehow slipped by me. Welcome to the channel if I haven't welcomed you already. I am glad to hear you enjoy the videos and have a wonderful day. 😊🦞
Tip my hat to you... a fellow angler that clearly sees the bigger picture and respects the quarry. Great to see and showing youngsters the right way 🎣🎣🎣👍👍👍👍
I'm going to comment again in a day or two when I've worked out how to express how brilliant that video was!!!
All the best to the family.
I look forward to hearing it mate. 😉👍🏻

That was my poor effort at speaking in matelotese!!
Its good to see such amazing senior citizens treated with such respect. Well done you!
My pleasure David. Have a great day. 😊
You my friend are the epitome of the spirit of fishing. Many people would just take them without a second thought. Massive respect to you pal! 🎣
That’s definitely not my style, thanks for noticing Liam, I try my hardest. 🦞
That is why we love watching you! You are so passionate about what you do, that you recognise the need to preserve what we have for others! Those two lobsters are stunning!
When you showed those two gorgeous lobsters my first thought was "the catch of a lifetime!" But it was closely followed by "aw, wish he would let them go". Your videos have taught me how exceptional their survival had been to get to that size. When you said morally you could not take them for the pot I promise I cheered! Thank you for your message of conservation & sustainability. But more so, thank you for praticing what you preach. Have a fabulous evening, Fisher Locker!
Well done on your awesome conservation/sustainability lesson for your son... the world needs more people like you... Respect!!
We are simply doing what we feel is right. 😊
I almost fell out of my chair when John said it was morally wrong to take the monster lobsters! I already had his father in law cooking a feast for the whole family! Lol
Haha.
Great job John, they were the biggest I’ve ever seen. I’m so pleased you did what you did. Hope they have many kids together. What wonderful specimens. I said to my wife there is no way John is going to put them on the dinner table!! Nice one mate. Conservation was definitely the way to go. Well done. Graham🦞🦞🦀🦀🦞🦞
You're a great man , John. A true conservationist. What a privilege to see them. Beautiful. 👍
"Morally couldn't." Words we don't hear anymore. Excellent.
Some people may not agree with that sentiment. But I feel these are lessons a father should teach his children. 😊🦞
Wow, those were amazing lobsters! All the way through I was thinking - John will put them back, I know he will put them back, not only that he will protect them - and as usual you did the right and honourable thing. I truly thank you for your attitude and respect for the environment - James is such a lucky boy to have such wonderful parents!
We are so proud of James and are always trying our best to raise him right. Your comment is very touching, thank you Chris.
We shared your excitement, John……fantastic viewing! Thanks.
Could you tell I was excited? 🤣
John you did the right thing! This was a very valuable lesson for James to see and to learn from for his days to come on the high seas. They also appreciated your decision to release! Cheers from the USA!
I used to be a deep sea fisherman some years back but it is always nice to see someone giving back to the environment in the name of sustainability and conservation. I am now a fly fisher and unless I decide to keep a trout for the pot, they always go back in the river. It is even better that you teach your son the importance of that, that was nice to see.
A true hunter and fisherman knows and understand the balance of the world and the effects of his actions upon it. 😊
@@TheFishLocker Absolutely, a good philosophy to have, we are not the masters of our world, only the custodians of it.
Well done for returning those specimen Lobsters. A great example to James and to us all.
My pleasure mate. Just doing what I thought was right. 😊👍🏻
I didn’t think I could respect you any more than I do already for what you stand for in terms of educating and protecting the stocks. But then you release those 2 leviathans! Awesome to see.
Certain other channels may well have kept them!
I knew they would go back maybe even before you did! You had the excitement of bringing them up and 2 personal bests, you got it all on video and James witnessed them. John you are a credit to fishermen with your attitude towards conservation and your moral compass, thank you for posting.
Thank you for putting them back. It's soo important because those lobsters that have survived many years and are true breeders to restock for future harvesting.
I agree Randolph. Best wishes to you sir and welcome to our channel. 😊🦞
I'm a catch and release bass fisherman from the midwest and I salute you for your efforts to do your part to preserve your fishery!!!!
Thank you and welcome to our channel. We do take some shellfish and fish for our family to eat but we try to practice conscientious harvesting.
I am an ex-commercial license Fisherman the greatest respect you for returning them they probably got the best part of 150 years between them
It simply seemed the right thing to do, and a valuable lesson for our son. They had lived through far too much and were far too valuable to the breeding stock to reach their end at my hands. 😊🦞
Many of us dont know the sea ethics, so your act of returning these massive beautiful lobsters back to the sea was education and an example for many to follow.
Love your channel and have learned so much from you!
Thank you Sam and it is wonderful to hear that you are finding the videos informative. Take care. 😊
John, This Ausi is so impressed that you caught such big Lobsters, but more impressed with the fact that you are letting them free together, such a beautiful couple.

Congratulations on catching those prehistoric beasts. Incredible. Would love to know how old and how strong they are, I do wonder about the crushing power of the claws. Haha. The funniest part was the comparison between the big one and the normal lobster. 😆🦞
@@TheFishLocker the difference was night & day😬
When James or any of his friends chance there arm at harvesting the sea there success or failure will have depended on deeds like this and the good ethics you share.
Hopefully this will be an example for others to follow.
Especially for those Fathers who would like to see there family's prosper and to ensure there way of life is preserved for future generations.
With more hungry mouths to feed in an ever shrinking world conservation has never been so important.

Just doing what I felt was right.😊
When they're that old and clearly a breeding pair it is hard to be the hand of fate that ends their lives. Kudos! It's still a great catch and memory that will last a lifetime. You may have single-handedly allowed millions of baby lobsters to repopulate your fishing grounds that might have not otherwise. Here in Maine I've seen some skippers donate gargantuan lobsters to Aquariums, but, releasing it back into it's environment is so much better. Thanks again for posting these vids.
I agree entirely Gregory. They have lived far too long for their journeys to end with me. I just had to return them. Take care and have a wonderful day. 👍🏻🦞
