- Today I join Jamie and his crewman Ryan on the Commercial Fishing Emily K out of Mylor. I am spending a day in the life of a Cornish Crab fisherman. We work their commercial crab and lobster pots and land the catch to the local fish market in Falmouth.

Man these videos are always a treat!
I always enjoy them too. 👍🏻🦀
Love it when you go out with the hard-working lads. It really makes me appreciate my food on the table.
Me too mate. I hope it sheds some light on a world that few people get to experience.
I've said before how much I enjoy the behind scenes of the Commercial Fishermen over there. Just incredible! So little goes to waste! Thank you John and the Crew for taking us along, it was interesting!!! Wishing all of you a wonderful week!
That is another wonderful positive to the small inshore fleet. Vessels like these are very efficient and sustainable.
This is one of your best videos yet .
Thank you Bob.
Great video gentleman a lot of hard work for the lovely lobsters and crabs but worth it in the end cheers guys 😊😊😊
@@ClivePlatt-jk7im this is a difficult and dangerous profession. The men and women doing it are very special indeed.
Love the use of old school inflatable footies for floats :-D
Smart isn’t it. 😉
That was a pisser of a show, John! One of all-time favorites so far.
Delaware, USA
Glad you enjoyed it my friend. 😊🦀
That was pretty impressive. they work like a well oiled machine.
You will find most commercial boats are like this. Hard work and great teamwork.
Thank you John for another great video. Thanks to The Emily K for allowing you to "krewe along"
I had a great day with the lads. A real pleasure to spend the day with. 😊🦀🦞
Absolutely fascinating, thank you for sharing 😀
It is my pleasure mate. Glad you enjoyed it. 👍🏻🦀

Don’t hold your breath Jacqui, we have a lot of things going on atm.
@@TheFishLocker Oh flip, well best regards anyway. 😃
Fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing mate I really enjoyed watching that:)
Many thanks to the skipper for allowing us to come along .

Glad you enjoyed joining us Rob.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video John, great nights viewing. Thanks for your efforts in entertaining us, so appreciate it. 👍
I hope folks find these videos interesting and educational mate. 🦀👍🏻
Thank you Fish Locker. That was very interesting. Being a land lubber myself, that was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks to the boys for a great time.
Glad you enjoyed joining us. 😊🦀
I'm really enjoying your trips out with commercial fishermen. It is really important that we know where our food comes from and that we support our local fishermen. Keep the videos coming
Thank you. I hope that people find the videos interesting and educational. 😊👍🏻
Cheers John, that was great!
Thank you.
That was great. Thanks john👍
Glad you enjoyed the video.
The risk & effort in providing seafood can't be appreciated enough. Thankyou.
These boys are sadly undervalued aren’t they
My friend I enjoy hard work I can sit and watch you boys work all day. Blessings to you and your's
I am the same.
what a cracking Video just a treat to watch, many thanks John
My pleasure mate, glad you enjoyed the video.
That was totally amazing watching the pros do that, great crew aswell, that was a really enjoyable watch, thanks to all three of you for sharing that with us all, awesome content John
Thank you very much. I had a great time with the lads. Real pleasure to spend the day with them.
Another great informative and entertaining video, i just relised that in previous vids I had negleced to thank the crews you have visited, I do so now and retrospectively to previous hosts. The spider crabs do apparently move along together and even climb over the newly molted soft shelled amoungst them to protect them from preditors at a vulnearable time!
That is true. I even recorded them doing it in a diving video a few years back.
One more nice video. thank you John.
My pleasure John.
Great Sunday night entertainment, excellent video and very interesting. Just shows what hard work it takes to give us crab.
They put some serious graft in don’t they mate.
very, very interesting day out John, regards Tel G
Cracker of a day mate.
Good morning John, sorry to be a pain but is there any chance you could do a video about your video and tips of shooting when you have time, regards Tel G
What a beautiful morning to be out on a boat. Thanks for sharing.
Couldn’t ask for better
Superb. Another privileged and enlightening insight into our fishing industry. Many thanks again FL.
I am glad that you enjoyed the video mate. 🦀😊
These videos have been fantastic - really enjoyed them. Hard working, risk taking lads and ladies who still put the best food available on the table despite hard economic conditions and a government determined to destroy business, lives AND the very water they work in. Fantastic
These guys certainly earn their living.
@@TheFishLocker that they do! I work on the rigs and I thought I had it had… nope
@@tommos16 - you offshore?
@@TheFishLocker yeah about to start a 48 day turn offshore of Aberdeen on a drilling rig! But we go anywhere and everywhere - I narrowly avoided Nigeria
@@tommos16 - I spent most of my time offshore in Nigeria. Not a place I would recommend as a holiday destination.
I really enjoyed the trap launching sequence...such a honed skill lining all that up!...6:29.
I find it really therapeutic watching them all go out. 😊
I love to watch these kind of videos as I love to learn more about the commercial side of fishing too!!
Huge ty to the crew for allowing u to join them n video there operation xxxx
I really enjoyed my day with them. Looking forward to getting out with them again. 😊🦀
@@TheFishLocker I’ll look forward to the video… would the person that empties the pods wear a GoPro on his chest so that we could get a much closer look into that part of bringing the pods in… We got to get a closer look at pods being stacked n sent bac out again n also baiting them as they go… it was just missing a closer look into that part of it… I promise I’m not complaining (I’m just a nosey pain in the rear lmao) I just thought I’d ask if that would b possible on ya next trip out wit them xxxx
@@Sammie-Lou-Miss-UK - there is nothing to see and it’s a very dirty splashy area.
@@TheFishLocker ahhh Okies… ya must think I’m really weird n nosey to want to see that lol… I’m just really intrigued by the whole process n love to learn about each n every step that’s involved lolol xxxx
@@Sammie-Lou-Miss-UK - You see the process much clearer and closer in the videos working pots on my own boat. 😊👍🏻
Very interesting bro, thank you so much bro💯💪🍀😉👍
It is our pleasure.
Very enjoyable to watch. I was thinking as I was watching it, that it would be neat to see how the pots are made sometime.
I have a video on the channel already teach people how to make one from scratch.
LOVING those overhead views! Octo snared @ 11:20 had me, & other Hawaii viewers, SALIVATING over their screens! Looks to be, 3-5#(?). Having grown up in/around Hawaiian waters, Still cannot get over myriad of ocean creatures taking residence in/around sea bed....A-L-O-H-A from Hawaii
It is the cool and oxygen rich waters around the U.K. that supports such rich seaweeds. These are the foundations for that rich myriad.
What a great example of what really happens on a commercial vessel, instead of the over-dramatic, edited for content Discovery crap. Are the size requirements different for commercial boats vs. recreational fishermen?
Haha. They always make me roll my eyes whenever I see them programs. 🤣
Great day out Jon. As usual a fantastic atmosphere on the boat. I know what you mean about the smell of the pots, you get used to it. The harbour in Amble is also used for the market. 👍👍
I quite like the smell. It’s nostalgic for me.
Great stuff! Good lads! 👍
Glad you enjoyed joining us bud.
Another great video
It’d only been posted a minute when you commented! You haven’t even watched it!
Thank you David.

easy life when its flat calm :) a great way to earn a living. cheers John, Jamie and Ryan.
Haha. Aye when it’s flat it’s lovely.
Fantastic video John and fair play to Jamie and Ryan for taking you out. Similarities to what you do, apart from hauling the pots of course!!!
Very interesting none the less. Regards to the crew of the Emily K and thank you yet again for another informative video. Best wishes-John from EK.
They work their gear in 70m of water!! No way I’m hand hauling that. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker Yeh, I figured you'd say no to that one John. It must be so important to those boys how much they get for their haul. Time you pay for fuel, maintenance of the boat and their gear and that's before they even consider a wage. Thanks again John.
Another great insight to the industry John. Thank you.
My pleasure mate.
Another fantastic insight in to the life of the commercial fisherman
Glad you enjoyed the video Debra.
It's a great environment to work, specially on a day like 👍
Couldn’t ask for a better day for it.
Thanks John these working boat videos have been eye opening and educational. It was good to say hello at the fundraiser and good to meet someone with a decent handshake.
Haha. You can tell a fair deal about a man by their handshake. Usually mine smells like fish. 😬
A great look into commercial fishing John. Loved the football buoys!
Great idea isn’t it. 👍🏻🦀
Great video once again 👍
Thank you Gary.
Interesting view of a commercial crab fisherman on a very pleasant day. No doubt other days are rainy and stormy with less productive days.
Same productivity just harder working conditions.
John, EXCELLENT video! Really liked the different camera angles, the stacking of the pots and ropes, and you could see that they use "work smarter, not harder" with that gate. With the first few out, the rest followed, cool!
With clear skies and calm water, a beautiful day for sure. My thanks to the captain and mate for allowing you and us to join them.
We really couldn’t have asked for a better day at sea could we. Beautiful conditions. 😊🦀🦞
Those were some honking great crabs in those pots! Can't lie.... this episode made me really hungry.
Haha. The local area does have some amazing crabs. It’s the clean Cornish waters.
I really appreciate the learning experience. It is to ride with you in your fishing experiences. You don't take an awful lap for granted in the knowledge of your audience and so it has to appeal across-the-board to savvy as well as not so savvy
Great video 👍, I've spent a few hours watching the boats working out of Cape Cornwall today, fascinating 🏴👍
Wonderful isn’t it.
What an amazing video John. Nice catch great weather and a good insight to part of the fishing industry. 😊😊
Couldn’t ask for a better day for it could we.
Great trip, thanks for taking us along 👍🦀
Our pleasure Stuart.
Only found this channel Yesterday.. I love anything to do with sea fishing/foraging etc.. Although I was brought up "inland" my father had a rule fins and feathers.. ie if it swam or flew I could eat what I wanted .. meat errm.. it was braising steak and onions on Saturday before Dr Who.. I'm 63 and I still really follow the same principles.. Not done me any harm tbh.. Not having Swordfish again though..
Fascinating to see how it's done at the commercial level. Keep these vids coming John they're great.
I shall do my best. 😊🦀
Just another stunning video John. Thanks for taking us long with you. I really enjoyed that.
My pleasure Jim. 😊🦀
Great video as always mate. Mylor is such a nice place. I used to cycle from Falmouth up to the Pandora and stop off at Mylor on the way back. Miss the place so much.
Lovely spot isn’t it. 😊👍🏻
Done a bit of beam trawling, but I'm hopefully getting on a potting boat soon.
Good luck. 👍🏻🦀
Very Refreshing watching Mr Fish.
No fair really He's having a Great Time Good Luck to Him.
Love it.
I really did have a great day. Thoroughly enjoyed spending time with these lads. 😊🦀
Brilliant and very informative. Those guys work well as a team. The crabs were a good size.
Well oiled machine. 👍🏻🦀🦞
Loving the commercial side to fishing 👍
Glad you enjoy the videos.
Another great informative video. Will make me enjoy my dressed crab even more
Puts extra value on them doesn’t it.
Fascinating seeing the different techniques different areas use.
I think so too.
Nice 1 jon & lads ..good catch.good content..
Thank you Sean.
Another great production pops out of the "Locker". Thanks for all this great content John. Hope you are all well including Spargo who is the best chef with the least recognition and should be praised for what he shows us for free. All the very best to you all Gary and Sheree in land locked worcestershire.
Thank you very much we are glad to share our videos with you both. 😊🦀
Great video and so nice of you to help out a local fisherman with free labor and exposure for his business. I know I spelled labour wrong but I'm American. hahaha
Haha. Do not worry about it mate. I hope that people find these commercial videos not only interesting but educational. Showcasing how some commercial fishing can be targeted and sustainable.
Another great video. Great vlog as per normal good to see you out take care x
Thank you Debbie. Have a lovely day. 🦀😊
Cracking video John, that's a well oiled crew, very efficient 🤓
Commercial boys work hard mate.
Very enjoyable watch and a great insight. Thanks
My pleasure. 😊👍🏻
Really enjoying the day in the life of. Another showing of how adaptable the fish locker is. I did like the simple hauling set up, simple but very effective and can see why a commercial fisher would have one. Great video 👍
Simple and effective. The best way to be. 🦀🦞👍🏻
I have thoroughly the commercial fishing videos, but this one is the best! Love the pots. Thank you...
Glad you enjoy them Dan. 🦀🦞
I'm there next week mate nice to see you enjoying yourself mate
I hope the weather is good to you.
Thanks mate
These episodes are brilliant
I am glad that you enjoy them. 😊👍🏻
Great video John and thanks for providing the insight.
I think we should remember that that day was prettty well flat calm and you have given me an enhanced respect for when these fellas have to go out in rough weather and still do the same job in such tight conditions.
I'll eat my next lobster (it doesn't happen very often) more slowly and spare a thought for our fisherfolk whilst I do so!!
Good on you for recognising that fact. Enjoy that lobster. 😉🦞
How slick was that! Excellent 👍
Well oiled machine.
Thank you for that it was quite an inside view of what goes on to get their catch in.
My dad was retired fishermen..when i was a little boy he worked his ass off earning money to make sure i get higher education..his dream was to see me as lawyer..hehe..back then fish price wasnt very good..he just dont want his children to follow his foot step, doing hard job to earn little money..but now,its been over 10 years i taking over his boat doing the same job he was doing despite having law degree.. 😂 because from where i came from, working as comercial fishermen nowadays especially if you have your own boat and you are the captain will give you big money..my father always said this.."i hope i knew back then that this job some day will put lots of food on the table and get you a nice car and house not like back in my time where we're considered poor if we have to do this job...now it feels like all the money i spent on your education got wasted for nothing..haha"
Great to see!
Thank you Deborah.
Thank you all for showing us. I really enjoyed it.
It is my pleasure.
Very interesting video. Love to see the small guys get their dues!
The boats and crews I choose to showcase as chosen for just those reasons. Efficient, sustainable and conservation minded.
I love love what u did today even my grandson enjoyed it 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
That is wonderful to hear. 😊🦀
Excellent show John!!!
Thank you.
Interesting to see how the commercial boys work , nice way to earn a living. Well until the shit weather hits ,cheers again John great vid 👏
Ain’t that the truth!!
They get some lovely clean crab on the south coast. Whoever thought of the roller system made a lot of fishermans back pain go away.
Agreed.

Thank you. I do hope that people find these videos interesting and educational 🦀🦞😊
Great insight into the crab fisherman's world john 👍
A world that few people get to experience first hand.
With You on board I know there dog fish catch is about to double. LOL
At the very least. 🤣
Another belter of in insight...thanks for that.
My pleasure bud.
Thanks John, this is the one I was waiting for. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it mate.
That was a very interesting trip you took us all on there. I remember in the old days when there would be fishmongers in more or less all costal towns but nowadays it is almost impossible to find fresh fish straight out of the sea, unless you go and catch it yourself. I suppose it all goes to the big auctions nowadays, so maybe that is a video you might do in the future?
What video?
@@TheFishLocker A video showing what happens between the fish are caught and they become for sale to the public was what I was thinking. Many fishing towns don't have fishmongers anymore so fresh fish is scarce and I suppose the supermarket version means a long delay and less fresh fish?
@@_J.F_ - I showed a bit of that in the whelk video. I shall think about how I can do it in a future video.
Another great video, ty.
My pleasure Graham. 😊👍🏻
Greetings John. Full watch.
👍🏻🦀 Thank you.
