Neil, thanks for posting your series on the robotic surgery. I am due for robotic prostate surgery in a couple of weeks, and it relieved a lot of the aprehension I was having about the recovery, etc. Your comments about the side effects, discomfort levels, catheter, etc. were greatly appreciated. The doctors can only say so much, but personal experiences can mean a lot as well.

Neil, I commented 9 months ago on your biopsy video. Thanks for easing my mind on that. Turns out I had cancer too. And I also had my prostate removed. I ended up with some complications a week later. My bladder did not want to come off the catheter. Catheter was removed a week after surgery. That night I started having spasms that were very painful. The next day I was back and forth between my family doctor and my urologist. I was sent immediately to the emergency room and ended up in the hospital for 3 days. They tested me for everything known to man even though my urologist was convinced it was just complications from the catheter. He turned out to be right.
At any rate, there was a funny part of the story. I, like you, dreaded the idea of a catheter insertion. I had lucked out initially because they inserted the catheter after my surgery while I was out. But now we had to start over. So I’m shaking while my urologist is getting ready to insert it. He inserted it and asked how I was doing. I guess it was all a matter of perspective. After the night before with the spasm pains, this was nothing! It felt similar to those pains, except it was like 1/100 the sensation. Compared to those spasms, I could do this all day long! I would not call it painful, just unpleasant. (He did not give me any numbing)
So now I’m on the mend. Last PSA check was .06 from .1 at my first check. Doc says .04 is undetectable so next check should be final.
I am presently preparing for a colonoscopy on Thursday - another thing Ive dragged my feet on. The prostate cancer kind of woke me up. Wish me luck. Glad to hear good news from you too.

Hi David, and thanks for the followup. For me it was a non-event really, and I was back at work a week or so later. My last PSA was 0.05 so all is well there. Next one is a month away. No leakage, and the other dept is working OK. Like you, this has woken me up, and yesterday i did a bowel CA test - not a colonoscopy, just a sample check. Not as good I know.

Hi Neil, thanks for the video. I'm hoping to avoid this path. However having an engineer explain it, has been helpful. I guess not everyone can expect no continence or ED complications, but it's good to here there is some hope at least. The stats don't look real flash.

Hi Neil. I'm watching what looks like the last of your videos which is dated 5 years ago. It's now June , 2023. I was wondering if your still around and ok? It would be really great to get an update of how your going now after your prostate removal. I'm an Aussie who is due for biopsy soon I think. I'm a public hospital patient in Australia unfortunately as I know private health cover ( which I don't have) gives probably better quality service in medical fields. Did you have private health surgery or were your operations done in private hospitals? By the look of your videos I would say private

Hi again Tony. I had the surgery in a pvt hospital, and yes I did have insurance. the procedure was about $30 as I recall, and I paid about 5k of that. Absolutely well worth while. The biopsys were done in public hosp. I will do a followup, but yes I am 100%. Where are you in Aust.? I am there next week in Coomera visiting my daughter.

      @@neil1058 Hi Neil
Thanks for your reply. I live in rural qld. I'm unfortunately not with private health insurance and am just a public patient which means I go through the public govt health hospitals which doesn't mean the surgeons are less skilful but that it may take longer to be seen or operated upon. It may also mean that the technology of the hospitals in some instances may not be as up to date but in saying that I can't envisage Govt funded hospitals not having the most modern up to date surgery technology available. I think the difference with private health insurance is that you can choose

@@anthonymiller6081 My Grandfather got transfered from private to public when his operation went wrong. If you're in big trouble I think the Public have better resources, or at least the main ones in Sydney. You don't get to choose your surgeon, but how would you know who to choose in any case ?.

@@kerrynball2734 Thanks for sharing about your Grandfather. Hope he is ok. Did he have his prostate removed or was it radiation treatment? Did he have prostate cancer? How old was he and what went wrong in the private hospital? If you don't mind me asking. I'm still waiting to have my actual biopsy on my prostate done as I'm on the public waiting list. My mri scan picked up a very tiny 3mm lesion and that's why they suggested a biopsy to make sure which is understandable. My PSA levels have thankfully decreased which I assume is food sign. Anyway thankyou so much for sharing about your grandad and I truly hope he's doing well.

      Hi friend,
I have been slow in replying to questions - my apologies. Its now exactly 15 months since my surgery, and I am pleased to say that my psa is undetectable, and my health is perfect. The sex life is better than before the surgery - don't know why- and I have no complaints or issues at all in that area. Zero continence issues, and really, all in all I am healthy and happy with the PSA, and the whole exercise.
I had the catheter out after 1 week, and was back at work the week after. I used incontinence pads for about 10 days only, and my sex life gradually improved from about 2 months, until now.
