After being diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer with a very grim prognosis ( Gleason 10 , PSA 587) i was put on hormone deprivation therapy and a keto diet to cut out "sugars" .My PSA would not get down below 211 . After seeing Dr. Scholtz 's earlier videos on avoiding animal foods i went on a strict whole plant based diet and a weight training regimen. 3 months later my PSA plummeted to 0.01. And has remained there for 3 years now! I am absolute living proof that a plant based diet has a massive impact on advanced prostate cancer survival. Thank you Doc Scholtz . So grateful i found this channel years ago!
Very impressive.. live long and prosper. I too had a high PSA when diagnosed mine was over 900 my Gleason score is eight I'm seem to be doing well my PSA now is 0.1 coming up on 2 years since diagnosis. Yours is a confirmation of how well a plant-based diet can work.
Fantastic! Keep fighting and wishing you strength and an abundant life . Here's to the power of plants🥂 ( Ok i cheat once a month and treat myself to a yummy steak😆)
Happy to hear that your PSA went down to 0.01 after getting on plant-based diet. It is both impressive and encouraging! I must confess, I am somewhat confused about that, however. Did they enhance your hormone deprivation? Did they add another agent? Please let me know as I am at a cross road with my advanced prostate cancer. Thank you for your post.
@@luketoni2902 Hi. My ADT has remained the same right from the start. Lupron plus anti-androgen orals in combination. Decided against chemo. My PSA remained stubbornly high the first couple of months. It only dropped dramatically after i changed my lifestyle. This included plant based diet. Strength and cardio exercises. Managing stress better. Also included medical cannabis and reishi mushroom extracts. Now on intermittent hormone therapy . It could possibly also be the holistic approach of all these protocols. But i really felt a change when i went plant based. Hope that helps and wishing you strength and enlightenment on this difficult journey!
I’m 76. I’ve been training with weights since I was about 13. I have decent muscle mass for a man my age. It sounds as if you are saying that I should reduce my protein intake to avoid prostate cancer. However, I then hasten the onset of severe sarcopenia. I would rather enjoy a robust shorter than live an extra few years as a weak old man.
As a guy in his 60s who works out and eats a fish and legume heavy Mediterranean diet, I would absolutely say you should NOT cut protein. For cholesterol reasons, I've cut out red meat and eggs. But legumes like lentils, chick peas and kidney beans are very high in protein. I eat non-mercury fish in the morning, and combine the legumes with a bit (50 g) of chicken breast for my lunch and dinner. Gets me to my daily target of 1.6. g/day per kg of body weight. But thanks to the legumes, I'm also taking in ~80 grams of fiber/day.
Gotta be careful, a lot of that is based on observational studies and apparently if you had lasagna they counted that as meat! First cut the carbs, sugar, seed oils, ultra processed foods, junk food and fast food and mostly go 0 carb. The SAD is killing the bulk of Americans…
Thanks so very much for this series! I think I’ve found each video. I’m a Gleason 9. When I was first tested, my OSA was over 200. Now, it’s almost 10 years later. The cancer has metastasized to my ribs, 0:21 hips, shoulder blades, and somehow, my sternum! One of my best friends has stuck with me through all the battles all these years, helping me to have courage. Last week, he was diagnosed with - you guessed it - prostate cancer, Gleason 7. So, now it’s my turn to support him. But he’s already been with me all these way, so he pretty much knows what he might expect. Well, now I’m Stage 4, terminal. Just trying to make it to my next birthday in November 2025 when I’ll be 80. With these videos to help me have courage, I just might make it!
I have had prostate cancer since 2014 (diagnosed) but was told that it was of the slow growing type. I'm now 81. At the time I was taking testosterone medication but stopped immediately. I drink 250ml of processed tomato juice daily and eat very little meat. Never smoked (I tried it as a teenager for about a week then ran out of money). Don't drink alcohol any more. I love to walk every day and do resistance exercises. My PSA over the years since 2014 has been in the range 2.9 to 4.09 but up and down within that range over time. So it seems to me that I'm doing all the right things but I wonder if lack of sexual intercourse is a factor. I'm almost impotent and my wife is too sick anyway with an inherited heart disease. Great site. Very informative. I have a routine telephone consultation with my urologist tomorrow.
I have not read or heard anything about a negative impact of lack of sexual intercourse. By the way, my PSA is in the same range as yours, but I’m a bit younger, 65. Good luck to you.
Mortality rate over what period of time? Also, it would help tremendously if the study broke out smoking vs obesity vs exercise vs processed meats. If the only difference is lean, active, nonsmoking vegetarians vs obese couch potatoes who ate pepperoni pizza daily, of course there is a big difference. Does this study (or ANY study) compare life expectancy of relatively fit, relatively active, nonsmoker vegetarians with relatively fit, relatively active, nonsmokers who eat a whole foods diet that include nonprocessed meats and eggs? What I am looking for is a study that compares unprocessed meat vs no meat - not "healthy" vs "unhealthy."
Interesting discussion. As someone with Leukemia, I just recently bailed on an oncologist who gave me the "deer in the headlights" look when I brought up the subject of diet and exercise to help manage my disease. In his view nothing but drugs will help.
i remember asking my doctor about taking a B complex and fish oil combination instead of prescribed drugs . He replied you dont want to going down that route.
it is unfortunately the case for a lot of MD they diregard those aspects. it is still not normal that people who undergo cancer treatment don't get any consult about nutrition or exercise ..
This is the result of Obamacare and government injecting itself into the public market to help 5% of the population that cannot or will not work, while screwing the other 95%. The government runs medical care and your medical care is determined by a flow sheet created by a government committee, instead of relying on the expertise of your doctor and your doctors knowledge of your specific circumstances. Your doctor is not allowed to entertain your suggestion of alternative care and has to follow the government committee flow sheet.
This is one of the most informative, reputable, and laypeople friendly medical channels on UA-cam! Thank you for what you do! Interviewer and Dr are both Great!👍🏽
I’m recently had prostate surgery. I have a genetic condition with two cousins who have also had prostate cancer. After my surgery, evidence of cancer was detected in one of eight lymph nodes. Since then, I’ve been following everything you presented today in your presentation. I found it so helpful and encouraging. Thank you so much!
I love both of y’all for the information y’all are putting out. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer (4+3) on the 18th March 2022. My age at the time was 52 years old. PSA Of 46 and cancer on left side of the gland. 30% of 6 cores! No signs of spread though! Because of this channel and information I became a pescatarian (fish is the only animal protein that I consume). And, I only eat a pound of fish per week that’s it! I have been on Lupron since May 2022, and for the next two years. Plus, 28 radiation treatments too (starting in July 2022 and ends the last day of August 2022. Additional I do strength training 3 day a week, and I have only lost maybe 5% percent totally (if that)of the strength; than before I taking Lupron. Also, I run 3.5 miles at 6.5 mph three days a week too to stay healthy and keep my energy up. I made the life style changes because of this channel, and I chose the treatment options also because of this channel too. Thank y’all very much, this channel has proven to be advantageous for me!
That is great! It can be tough to make those changes. Feel free to contact us if you ever have any questions (pcri.org/helpline), but hopefully you will not have to think about prostate cancer once the treatment is finished!
To reduce and stop increase of my presant PSA level I was advised to take tab casodex 50 mg for 3 weeks only.It gave me a lot of relief my PSA level of 393 points came back to 65 points within5-6 weeks and all swallow gone from my feet
EN1 Chef You wrote, "Because of this channel and information I became a pescatarian." Do you remember the video's name that encouraged you to become "a pescararian"? Do you eat fatty fish and/or vegetables, also?
@@myklm8456 I think it was one of the many videos. But, this one the Doctor was explaining how some of his patients. Well they went vegan and it had a inhibitory affect on their rising PSA. And their PSA stopped rising. So, he said he saw the proof in their PSA numbers, that had stopped climbing. Oh, I eat Tuna or salmon 16oz only. And, one day a week only. Yes I eat fruits vegetables, rice, and beans!
During nine weeks of radiation I lost twenty five pounds. They put me on a terrible bland diet. As my radiation was at noon, I was told to come with a full bladder and a empty bowel, I didn't eat until after. When I started ADT I was told I'd gain all that weight back and more. No way I said. I continue to fast every morning, not eating until 2pm. I eat a spinach salad loaded with fresh fruit every day. For dinner I have a sensible meal, most without any meat. Eleven months into ADT I've managed to lose another five pounds, which probably would be another twenty-five if I wasn't on ADT. No fast food and very little sugar. My panels are for the most part better than ever now and my A1C is now 5.4, down a full point. To say prostate cancer was a wake-up call for me is an understatement. I do plan to continue eating healthy when I stop ADT next month.
From some studies I have seen there was no difference in survival for those undergoing radiation with ADT and those only having the radiation . I only had the radiation and my radiologist was fine with that.
I do believe with the advent of PSMA scans that ADT usage should decline greatly when cancer isn't found outside the prostate. This is my last month of ADT. My oncologist wants me to do two years, by the book, but that book is now out of date. I'm tired of being sick and tired so we will see if the radiation worked. If my PSA increases, it has been at PSA Zero since my radiation ended, he will do a PSMA scan. Find it kill it is our plan but no more ADT
I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and follow your videos. 11 out of 12 samples from the biopsy were cancerous and had my prostate removed in November 2020. Cancer was found in my seminal vessels from the pathology report, PSA .67. I had a bone scan and CT scan, no PSMA in Nova Scotia. I was put on hormone therapy in January 2021 and then had 33 rounds of radiation in the prostate area, starting in April 2021 finishing in July 2021. Just finished my last injection of hormone therapy in November 2022. I worked out with weights since I was 18 and am now turning 66. In pretty good shape and have turned to a vegan diet after watching this video to do the best I can to fight this cancer. The question I have, is fish considered an animal protein, or can fish raise your PSA levels. My PSA has been at .05 since going on the hormone therapy.
I've read that oily (Omega3) fish are beneficial, eg salmon, herring, mackeral, sardines. I'm in NB not too far from you. Did you have any liquid biopsy (4KScore or urine based test) or mpMRI prior to a biopsy? I am 70, very fit (running 21-25 miles/wk and cycling 70-90 km/wk in summer) and no weight or health problem, no family history of PrCa but, out of the blue, my physician just told me that my PSA is 16 (5 years after last test which was normal). I've had BPH since about 50. Prior to this news I had been Intermitent fasting for about 8 months (BMI 21.4) and doing a Wim Hof regimen of breathing and cold showers (also 2-3 /week saunas) for 2 months. I am scheduled to see her tomorrow to have a DRE. So, in the past week I have been racing up the learning curve on the prostate.
I don't understand why the video placed any emphasis on a vegan diet. The study only covered processed meats. They did not deal with vegan diets. The component with the strongest influence is healthy weight and exercise. Eat lots of tomatoes and fatty fish. Don't smoke. Don't eat processed meats. I think real meat is fine, but eat enough plants for the anti-cancer phytonutrients. The strongest is sulfuroraphane, which was found to be very effective against prostate cancer.
Thats amazing ! I am in Montreal QC. I am going to my surgery this friday ! I am a little scared.... I already started a fasting with vegetables, sardines, tuna, salmon and little fruits.... We have a very similar ... MRI shows my seminal vessels, CTs not shows anything on bones or any other organs.... I will fight with all my tools... keep it strong and fight fight tight !
I have read most all the comments. I got diagnosed with PC 16 months ago or 5/2023. I had a Gleason 7 and on the margins and had the little bast-ard taken out 8/2023. It was very hard on me. Now, I am a 71 mega athlete and was 5 9 163 now I am 139. My PSA 3 month Bloodworks were as follows: .022, .64, 213 then started the Keto Metabolic Diet with 2 day fasting, next BW almost flatlined at .231, and then it friging doubled to .441. I am very strict on the Keto. I eat chicken and salmon wild caught. I have taken and still do take 4 times a week 500mg of Mebendazole and blend in 1 Ivermetin and 1 HCQ two of those 4 days. I drink Turmeric/pepper/Ashwangda Powder, drink a little Appricot Seed Oil, MCD oil and exercise now only half as much at 1.5 hours a day. I now switched to no boiled eggs daily and eat something better, Ground up Flexseed in water, a little salt, pepper, a bit of Olive oil and make it cold and it taste like an egg or is better so not bad. I have followed Prof. Seyfried of Boston College and keep asking him in the comments all under his 100 utube videos or more PROF. I HAVE IMPLEMENTED 5 MONTHS AGO ALL YOUR KETO METABOLIC DIET. MY GKI HAS BEEN UNDER 2 ALL THIS TIME AND UNDER 1 HALF THE TIME SO HOW DID MY PSA DOUBLE THE LAST 3 MONTHS? ALL QUIET. Now, I am having a follow up new combo CT/PSMA Pet Scan tomorrow as the first one 4 months ago said no RED Dots but a small lesion on the bone. My PSA only got to 6.9 before I had it taken out and since my PSA is still very low. All Studies say unless your PSA is very high, it is impossible for any bone lesion to be cancer as we have as many inside on the bone moles and freckles as we do on our arms and most all are just benign. Wish me luck tomorrow and God Bless all of you. I do The Iceman deep breathing daily to relax, I smoke pot here in Thailand as it is legal and it helps me relax. I don't eat more than say 30gms of Carbs a day. I love Dr. Scholz and both of them are such caring and compassionate plus very smart people.
@@ws7001 ws, I had taken 500mg of Mebendazole 4 days a week along with 2 HCQ and 2 Ivermecin and all kinds of other supplements. I only take 2 Ivermectin a week now and am on Lupron Shots and my PSA is not a factor now. Side Effects though but I can live with it but the rising PSA was going to end up killing me. I love my chicken and salmon so vege only is not an option either
Cool story... I to have followed as best I could the regime of Prof Seyfried and my PSA went from 7.6 to 6.8 after 4 months of the regime. My Docs don't believe the significance of diet and cancer. They are still believing the hereditary lie. Unfortunately how can you trust the med profession after the vaccine bullshit. Going for a MRI tomorrow to see how the cancer growth is going. I'm anticipating a smaller density. Can't use the drugs you have mentioned as they are banned in NZ... Fuc them
The host asks all the right questions. She is awesome and Dr Schultz always gives a precise explanation. I get so much important information from these PCRI videos. Keep up the good work. I have been watching my 2 lesions which we’re 3+4 . After my last MRI they found a 3rd lesion which came back as a 4+5 and the other 2 lesions came back as 3+3 instead of 3+4. I’m going for a pet scan next and will decide which course of action to take. Very nervous about finding out about the 4+5 Gleason score. I’ve been doing active surveillance on the other 2 lesions . They have not changed. I’m hoping I can do some type of focal therapy .
Curiously, both high protein (keto, carnivore) and plant based therapies seem to work. It looks like anything that takes us away from standard western diet of procresed foods has health advantages. Give a choice, I would go for the high protein... plant based as its own problems in the long term.
really. the blue zone groups have proven what works.average life span 100,super active until those ages, they don't get diseases. They are plant based. Show me anywhere near this in carnivores.
if you look at what works, with evidence over very long term, is a plant based diet. Research the Blue zone groups. They are 95-100 % plant based, live to around 100, stay active into those years, no chronic disease. The next diet is the Mediterranean diet. You will find no studies whatsoever of long healthy life that includes the normal amount of animal products. There are many legit studies in medical journals showing how the hormones in meat and milk actually cause cancer. That's why it's critical you do your own thorough research, it can save your life. Be very careful not to be dragged in to these internet channels and even doctors, specifically the carnivore cult ones, who push meat, well knowing the studies that are out there. The fact none respond, I have contacted many, about the blue zone and the studies showing cancer, tells me what they are all about. money.
The doctor said that animal fat is the enemy for those with the more aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Excessive carbs tends to feed other cancers. I have no idea what is meant by a "clean" diet, as even "organic" produce and meat can come from farms where DDT and other chemicals were used extensively decades (or even more recently) ago, not to mention chemical pollution in rain water, or simply present in the air. Unless you're running a chemical analysis before every meal, you can't be sure of the "cleanliness" of what you're chowing-down on. In addition to not smoking or drinking, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and weight, regular exercise, getting adequate sleep and eliminating stressors you can control, eating a well-balanced diet that leans towards fatty fish, plant sources and unsaturated fats will give you the best chance of surviving to an advanced old age. The good news is that people who commit to these habits by at least early middle-age will greatly increase their chances for longevity. My Dad, who will be 97 this year, smoked, drank and ate a high carb and saturated fat diet until he made the necessary changes in his forties. While his health improved, he still needed triple by-pass in his 60's and stents in his 80's. And he still intends to be shot in bed by a jealous husband at the age of 115.
@@kerder8660 That's not quite what he said He said diet didn't seem to make a difference when it came to getting prostate cancer, but it was a factor (as part of lifestyle) when it came to survival
I am thankful that Dr S. is promoting diet exercise etc and that he is my doctor! Diet and lifestyle is beneficial to every aspect of health and wellness, prostate cancer being no exception. It is working for me and others and a growing number of men. We play a part in our destiny.
How many studies included men who ate only wild grass fed hormone free animal products. Most men in the studies who ate meat probably started doing so 50 years ago and consumed processed meats with abandon. Also how many of the studies looked at other factors such as sugar consumption, carb consumption, processed food consumption whilst making assumptions about these meat eaters. Good quality red meat is full of bio available zinc. Processed meats probably not. Vegetarians are generally healthier that the majority of meat eaters. That said If you eat high quality meat in small proportions and clean up the rest of your diet coupled with good exercise you can be just as healthy if not healthier than any vegetarian. Plenty of red meat eaters out there with no cancer...
I think the issue with these studies is that we have been told that meat and fats are bad. This means that people who eat meat don't care about their health and eat a lot of other stuff and have other bad habits like smoking and eating lots of carbs. I just can't see a study where the people in the study only eat meat, so you can't trust those studies. A proper study would be based on people who are on a carnivore diet and exclude all the other foods.
Thank you. Very helpful. My psa is 10.9, my T is 800. I had a mri and three 2mm lesions. I am waiting for the fusion biopsy at UW Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle. I have followed a 90% vegetarian life style for my 76 years. These videos you make give me hope. Thank You
I'm not sure that 3- 2mm lesions would produce a PSA of 10, what is your age? With lesions that small, you should be fine. 2MM is tiny, I was told that even the 3tMRI would have trouble seeing anything that small.
Risk factors: Smoking, lack of exercise, being overweight, eating a lot of processed meat products. Beneficial: More fish intake, tomato-based / vegetable type diet.
processed meat isn't the problem, its the sugar. These cancers were much more rare in the past when everyone was mostly eating meat and processed meat.
I got prostatectomy .year go bye ....how I feel REGRET fell dog castrated . You should tell all the truth , what really will happen to you... is just .... what goes around comes around.
It is stated that consumption of animal protein and fat has a negative effect on Prostate Cancer but that consumption of fish has a protective effect. Why the inconsistency? If it is just a matter of the beneficial effect of Omega 3 fats on the cancer, wouldn't the research suggest that we should avoid fish but eat lots of flax seed, walnuts, etc.? Confusing!
The study conclusions show that the link between Prostrate Cancer and outcomes are mainly driven by obesity and smoking. You cannot conclude from that any particular diet regime is better or worse but rather net excess on any diet. We are all aware of the Dangers of processed foods and smoking however from other studies most chronic diseases have their origins in metabolic dysfunction where sugar/carbs are causal, we need more studies in this area.
Agreed, it is scary to read the comments and everyone is cutting out meat because they think it is bad. The issue with these studies is that generally people who drink and eat lots of carbs, they also are big meat eaters. It isn't the meat, it is the carbs they are eating and the obesity. People on a plant based diet are usually more health conscious so they are not obese and avoid other harmful behaviors.
I don't agree with that. That would be too simple. There are many parameters and influences that cause cancer, and in addition a hormone driven cancer like prostate cancer or breast cancer is even more complex. DNA inheritance has a major impact on whether or not your body develops cancer. There are many athletes with a lot of muscle mass and little fat. They led a very healthy and strict life and still got cancer. On the other hand, many people drink, smoke and eat anything. They grow old without getting many diseases. In this case, it's just divine DNA.
10:05 Most prostate cancer cells rely on testosterone to help them grow. The testosterone levels rise after exercise, especially intense, heavy strength training, like lifting weights. Isn't it counterproductive to lift weights when having prostate cancer like Mr. Scholz was saying ?
T as well as GH is only raised for a brief period of time after lifting. Something like hours. There is no chronic raising of T or GH from resistance training.
It's not testosterone that fuels prostate cancer . It's actually estrogen/dht, which increases in ageing men as testosterone slowly declines as part of the normal male ageing process. Testosterone is actually protective of prostate cancer. That's why young men don't get prostate cancer. They have naturally high testosterone levels and low estrogen/dht levels. The hormonal imbalance that occurs in ageing men with estrogen/dht domiance is the problem. Testosterone has been unfairly demonised as the culprit when it's actually estrogen and dht!
The six lifestyle factors affecting prostate cancer outcomes: 1. Smoking; 2. Lack of exercise; 3. Obesity; 4. Consumption of processed meat products; with the following factors being protective against prostate cancer: 5. More fish intake; and 6. Higher consumption of tomato products. Although he advocates a so-called "plant based" diet, he also seems to differentiate between processed and unprocessed meat. That's a biggie. Especially for those of us who are experimenting with the so-called "carnivore" diet. While I don't go so far as to say "Plants are trying to kill me," I was eating a lot of skinless chicken and juicing a lot of veggies (few fruits) for the many years (6+) while I was also cooking up my prostate cancer. Note: Eliminated it with high-dose Vitamin D3 and K2 MK-7 over two years. Let's see how I do on carnivore!
Let’s be clear, the study identified processed meats - which are loaded with chemical additives such as nitrates - not animal protein per say as the real villain. Several studies have confirmed that once dietary animal protein intake is adjusted for the effects of processed meat intake the correlation between animal protein intake and morbidity and mortality losses significance.

@@kurt1391 You're right. Habitual long-distance running damages the heart due to cortisol release. Long-distance running simulates high stress. My niece was a marathoner for years and dropped dead from a heart attack at 28 years of age. No warning, she just keeled over during a run.

I have never seen a single, agreed-upon definition of a plant-based diet. My diet emphasizes a substantial proportion of colored vegetables on the plate compared to a small amount of animal protein. I don't see why this wouldn't be considered to be plant-based. This seems like a healthier diet than a vegan diet because it produces a sufficiency of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients without the deficiencies of multiple vitamins that is built into the vegan diet.

I just noticed a Urologist in New Zealand telling a lot of the different things that will raise your psa and not be prostate cancer. Coffee, sugar, running, are a few of the items that affect the psa.
It's not entirely clear. The experts cannot seem to agree. All agree that sex, vigorous bike riding, prolonged sitting, even constipation will raise measured PSA levels. They cannot agree on coffee, sugar, alcohol etc. Some pharmaceutical drugs can raise or lower your PSA too.
But how do you maintain muscle without the proteins from red meat eggs and similar products. Is the problem process meat that has to be avoided? because it seems like red meat when mentioned is kind of vague when the word processed is used and not stresses enough.
You need some animal protein, but processed meat should be out and red meat only in small quantities now and again. Better to eat fish, eggs cheese and drink full cream milk. Eat wholemeal in preference to white bread.

I think it's important to read the original study (it's short), especially the discussion section, and to download and study Table 6 in the supplementary data files. They are focusing on subjects that rank as being at high polygenic risk for progression or death of prostate cancer, and in their summaries of their results, they are basically talking about the highest risk group, which is the one that had the greatest effect of healthy lifestyle. Once you start looking in Supplementary Table 6 at the other risk groups (i.e., < 75%tile), then the results are much less clear, in that the direction of the difference in hazard ratio goes back and forth between the “healthy” and “unhealthy” ranges of the various lifestyle factors, or in several cases the difference is essentially nil. For example, for the next-to-highest polygenic risk group (50-75%tile), risk of lethal prostate cancer actually increases for high vs low vigorous exercise (.83 vs .45) and high vs low eating fatty fish (.65 vs .42). I think the bottom line is that the results of this paper may be less generalizable than one might have hoped (although for those who know they are in the high polygenic risk group, it could be useful).
@gshenaut Interesting points! Thabn you for your contributions. At least two reasons could explain the phenomena: individuals practicing high vigorous exercise could be at risk of an adverse hazard, i.e. having a worst diet 'because' they think the physical activity would compensate even bad eating choices. Usually you could not compensate bad or sub-optimal eating behaviors with exercises. Another reason could be very intense exercises develop higher ossidation such as reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs). More is not always better and also exercise should be calibrated for the best benefits.
Probably a healthy diet here is high carb, low fat? I wonder what the outcome would be for a low carb eating pattern. Also curious what HbA1c or HOMA-IR scores would have been
@@joegondo7985 Maybe anecdotal too. Is he talking about a small number of his own patients? No data to back up his assertions. Not good to make claims without data.
If you're eliminating seed oils, you'll get a great benefit from high carb low fat. It's gonna be boring has hell though Long term, such a diet is likely to be nutritionally deficient High animal protein/high animal fat would be better
@@galahadthreepwood That's what I am doing... I skipped all seed oils, kept avocado, coconut and a bit olive oil virgin, cold pressed. Love butter for cooking. Meat and some vegetables.
Protein and animal fats are not the problem. This (the study) is a bunch of BS propagated by the medical industry who are still hanging on to old biases and half-assed research. There are groups that have a vested interest in steering people in a certain direction because of the own agenda. Show me a meaningful double blind study that has a respectable N value that has taken place over a reasonable time that shows meat and animal fats as being carcinogenic. There are so many other factors that play a role in the development of cancer, many of which are never taken into consideration during these studies. A quality and useful study is very complex, costly and difficult to get, unfortunately. We rely way to heavily on these officials to tell us what is appropriate, when it's clear they have no solid evidence of anything. A little common sense may wind up going much further in the end.
Honestly, it’s hard to believe experts on anything anymore for years, they push that diet pyramid thing, which was a total farce, and I have to confess for years I eat a low-fat high carbohydrate diet, and was always hungry. I’ve enjoyed running all my life so I was never overweight at all. Probably a little skinny, but always had a hard time keeping muscle on so the last few years totally change my diet edit a lot more protein and cut out any process food now at 60+ years old I’m finally putting on some muscle. When you go to the grocery store and you look around, everything is carbohydrates and you look at everybody and they’re fat. I’m not picking on people but the food industry and the experts lied to the American republic.
So true the doctor gave a lot of maybes and just pinpointed the legacy usual suspects smoking weight loss processed foods they know nothing concrete other than what their pharmaceutical companies are telling them to push
As a prostate cancer survivor of 4 years now......I have limited mobility due to crumbling spinal issues (incl. L5 to S1 spinal fusion) what can I do to improve my fitness?

I'm a little confused by two different things you said, doctor. When listing the 6 things that affected prostate cancer mortality, you first specified "processed" meats but then later simply said "animal fat and protein." I'm pretty sure there is a very big difference between these two forms of meat. Did this study parse those differences? Have any studies been done parsing these differences?
Fried food should be out, so should processed meat. A little meat now and again should do you no harm, but fish, eggs, milk and cheese are better. I keep fats to a minimum. Always eat wholemeal, not white bread. I drink a pint of full cream milk per day, I cant stand skimmed or homogenised. Plenty of exercise, only a pint or two of beer per week and no tobacco..
@@bernardedwards8461 You're behind in the latest research. Frying is fine if you use lard. Into the 70s, my mother was still using lard to fry. Go look at television, movies, magazines, family photo albums. Almost no one was fat and everyone was cooking with LARD. We asked our grandfather, who never had a doctor until he was 94 and died at 97, "Grandpa, what's the secret to your long, healthy life?" He said, "Pig fat! I eat pig fat at every meal." And he did. My grandmother, who died of cancer at 89, cooked pig or used lard at every meal. Even if it was just to boil her green beans in! Seed oils are what is killing us.
@@terrifictomm Frying is unhealthy, but if you want to do it go right ahead. You might get away with it, people get away with all kinds of unhealthy practises. I wouldn't recommend lard, sunflower or olive oil is healthier. I keep fats and oils to a minimum, but drink a pint of full cream milk every day.
It's the lycopene in tomatoes that' does the job , especially ketchup . I start eating beans on ketchup , also lots of stir frys , done in turmeric olive oil and black pepper .
I'm interested to know how the PSA level corresponds to the number of cancer cells in the body. Suppose that the prostatectomy surgeon missed one cancer cell. How long would it take for the PSA to start rising and how long until something needed to be done?
No measurable connection from the PSA to cancer levels. Also your follow up questions are far to vague to answer. Every situation is unique and needs to be evaluated as such.
@@stevencook4002 Strange response. My question was very specific and of course there is a relationship between PSA levels and number of cancer cells. If there were not, PSA measurement would be meaningless.
@@martinevans1427 Agreed. PSA levels are directly linked to size of otherwise healthy prostate, and proportional to tumour size. But every man is different, and one may show modest increases in PSA levels while another may have alarming levels that don't signify much. I wish it were more black and white.
@@paulmaxwell8851 I understand that some healthy prostates produce more PSA than others but my question was specifically about PSA levels after prostatectomy i.e. when the prostate does not contribute to PSA levels at all. In my case, 8 years after a prostatectomy, the PSA levels have started to rise. This can only be due to residual cancerous material in the blood. I am trying to understand what the shape of the curve might be and how the level corresponds to the "size" of the recurring cancer. I would have thought that there might be data on this.
@@paulmaxwell8851 I will say that my MRI showed a PIRAD 4 6mm lesion. PSA 18.9, inflammation & BPH also found. My tumor is relatively small but still producing high levels of PSA.
My PSA levels taken every 3 months have been 15.4, 12, 19.4, 15.4, 19.4, 14. after a MIR and two biopsy's now being monitored with blood tests every 6 months.
I was referred to urology by my GP with a PSA reading of around 7 nearly a decade ago. A DRE, 12 pin biopsy and MRI scans have followed, with fluctuating PSA levels over succeeding years up to the present time when a PSA reading of 15 was reported. PSA levels rise with age and are hardly the most reliable guide to the presence or lack of cancer. A prostate friendly lifestyle, diet and health supplements have long been adopted by me and i would be annoyed if further monitoring (which is ongoing once you're on the medical merry-go-round) located the presence of prostate cancer. ..
@@songsmith31a Yeah, I think most of it is a big racket to make money unfortunately. Even the doc that discovered the psa test doesn’t believe in it for prostate screening anymore.
So they did not detect cancer? My husband been monitored since 2019....PSAs 5 then down to 3.2 then up to 8.4 and now 7.1. They did MRI in 2019 and had no explanation for it being raised (over 3l). They pushing him for biopsy or at least another MRI
@@songsmith31a I am in a similar position, same PSA. If cancer is found the problem is deciding if to have any treatment for it or not. As long as its not an agressive cancer of course.
There are many such studies. Start with T. Colin Campbell's China Study. He claims that the link between dairy and prostate cancer is as strong or stronger than the link between cigarettes and lung cancer.
These are epidemiologic studies. .They are only good for learning about associations and forming working hypothesis, but do not provide any scientific prove about statements built upon it. Here is a statement that has the same value: "perhaps processed meat is healthier than "light" products that are highly processed". The problem is that big industries have the money and power to influence government, media and yes, the medical industry (by influencing the protocols). It is not strange that over time people's health becomes worse and worse.😒
My keto diet resulted in my a1c dropping to 5.3 and I am t2 diabetic. I consume 5 eggs a day and my carb intake is under 30 grams fiber. I like Vegetables but think their large consumption would be harmful. I lost 75 pounds with keto. I gained that weight from the Mediterranean diet. How do I choose?
@@DMWB57 I agree. My husband started a Ketogenic diet after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer 3/2019. He weighed only 94 lbs. His Hem A1c was 6.0. On the Keto diet, he reduced sugar, prioritized good quality animal protein, low sugar fruits/veggies, and NO grains. Cancer cells have a lot of insulin receptors (3X normal), which makes the cancer cell very "glucose hungry". Glucose regulation is key. Today he weighs 114 lbs, PSA 4.2, A1c 5.6, and his lab work looks great. He works out with a personal trainer 2X week. I don't think he could have gained weight and put on muscle, maintained bone density with a vegetarian diet. He is 80 years old.
@Ratz Patootie I agree with you that older people need more protein. But, it sounds like you believe that high protein intake is acidic in nature and leaches calcium and minerals from the bone (and this only happens in women?). It is just the opposite. Meat is acidic in nature because it is made of amino acids. But when you eat and digest in stomach with Hydrochloric acid (pH 1.5 acidic), the amino acids are NOT acid forming in the body. They are broken down to build, repair, and maintain your organ systems including your bones. We would be dead if these amino acids caused our blood pH to become acidic or allow calcium in our bones to leach out. On the other hand, sugar is not an acid, but when taken into the body in large amounts, and over time, digested and broken down, it can becomes acid forming in the cells including bone cells.
@@doriagh Thiese The push is for vegetarian diets through epidemilogical studies that cannot prove causation. Low carb and keto diets reduce your metabolic risk factors and with a reduction of sugars, reduces the energy cancer cells thrive. We are witnessing how many scientists have conflict of interests that seem to go unnoticed.
What the physician revealed in summary is that if one doesn’t have genetic predisposition there is no evidence that following or not a healthy anti-prostate cancer diet (less diary, red meat, processed food) will raise one’s risk to get this type of cancer. However this doesn’t apply for BPH (enlarged prostate) risk, where no matter what most men will have sooner or later with disturbing or not symptoms, right..

What do you recommend to someone like me whom PSA was going up (200+) while on ellagard and zytiga, The zytiga was causing horrible urinary/ bladder problems which snowballed into GI track issues (diverticulitis). Yet my PSA dropped to 130's after I ran out and they didn't get my zytiga for 3 weeks a few months back. I have METS to most lymph nodes and was recently told I'm end stage prostate cancer. The diverticulitis I was told was the direct result of bladder inflammation pressing against my large intestines and colon. Ive since stopped taking the zytiga and am only making 2-3 trips to the bathroom rather than 8-9 and night and no more pissing razors. The last ER trip this past Sunday morning, was told my condition is unlikely to improve. ( weakness, light headed and vertigo that started after the diverticulitis flare up). My Oncologist hasn't been responsive since I said I didn't want to have anymore contrast CT scans. My primary questions is do you think my energy level loss is the result of the diverticulitis ride or the prostate cancer? Prior to to all this starting 3 weeks ago I had energy to hit the gym 3 times a week. Ive done most of the dietary changes.
My PhD is about this topic: while I agree on what is said here, the literature is mostly inconclusive and it isn't clear what we should be aiming for in terms of nutrition and PCa risk. I think a more global approach is necessary : consider full diets instead of consumption of one specific food or group of foods.

A year ago my PSA jumped from normally around 5, to 11. I had been keto for awhile but I went more strictly keto, started taking brocoli sprouts, lots of Vit D etc. Next two PSA scored were 8 and now at 6. I am eating lots of good veggies as well as plenty of meat and animal fats. I will keep doing what I am doing and keep taking PSA tests. I would like to fast more but find it hard at my age, 71. I do lift weights and I am very fit and strong.

These Studies are based on questionnaires, which show correlation but no causation. Data is unreliable cause there are too many confounding variables. "New Science" looks at cancers as a metabolic disease. The prostate cancer cells have an abundance of insulin "receptors". Cancer cells in general have a deranged metabolism and produces limited ATP fuel without oxygen using glucose as fuel. Look up the "Warburg Effect". Insulin receptors makes prostate cancer cell very "glucose hungry". So by lowering carbs/glucose you can mitigate activation and fueling of prostate cancer cells. Insulin/Glucose regulation is key.
You keep talking about the benefits of resistance trading. I bike 100 miles a week…does that qualify as resistance training or is it a suitable substitute? That is addition to walking dogs 1 to 2 hours a day.
Hey, I’m no expert but I don’t think the bike riding is a substitute for resistance training though 50% of our muscles are in our leg so if you do a lot of hill work maybe that does qualify what I mean by this if you’re doing a lot of fast peddling on flat areas we are actually working your aerobic system then that’s not resistance training but if you’re going uphills, so you’re adding weight. Anyway, I be ’ve been running since six grade and now I’m 60+ and so I’ve added a pull up bar and got some dumbbells and added more weight training so I don’t know get a set of dumbbells super cheap get a pull up bar …sounds like you’re very active guy so that wouldn’t be a problem anyway all the best .

You’re doing the right thing for you.
Protein powder, there's lots of vegan ones.
Same here.

I love both of y’all for the information y’all are putting out. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer (4+3) on the 18th March 2022. My age at the time was 52 years old.

Dr. Scholz Man, you are God Send Thank you so much for your time to give great infomation.
What is adt?

I do The Iceman deep breathing daily to relax, I smoke pot here in Thailand as it is legal and it helps me relax. going for a pet scan next and will decide which course of action to take.

The fact none respond, I have contacted many, about the blue zone and the studies showing cancer, tells me what they are all about. money.
exactly processed meats where the issue
plant based, which problem? Thanks
No, carnivore doesn’t work for prostate cancer. You are making the mistake of thinking that all cancers feed the same way, they do not.
Excess carbs, sugars, highly processed foods are the enemy. Clean healthy diet is the way ✌🏽🙏🏽
The doctor said that animal fat is the enemy for those with the more aggressive forms of prostate cancer.
High fat and animal products are the enemy too.

And which studies are you basing those assumptions on ?
I agree with you!

Wow. You are vegetarian and still had prostate cancer.

Confusing!
@@alanfaber1261 Flax/walnut has only one of three major Omega-3 acids, Namely ALA. Fish provides the DHA and EPA.
Thank you... Your Prostate Research and Information is helping MANY of us.
Sounds like cattle industry guff.
Excellent Interview, Ty to both Host and Guest!!

I don't see why this wouldn't be considered to be plant-based. Thank for these excellent discussions on this complex subject in terms which has given my wife comfort.
Very interesting, very helpful and encouraging. I have now subscribed. Thank you.

My PSA levels taken every 3 months have been 15.4, 12, 19.4, 15.4, 19.4, 14. after a MIR and two biopsy's now being monitored with blood tests every 6 months.
Did you have prostate cancer?
I was referred to urology by my GP with a PSA reading of around 7 nearly a decade ago. A DRE, 12 pin biopsy and MRI scans have followed, with fluctuating PSA levels over succeeding years up to the
present time when a PSA reading of 15 was reported. PSA levels rise with age and are hardly the
most reliable guide to the presence or lack of cancer. A prostate friendly lifestyle, diet and health
supplements have long been adopted by me and i would be annoyed if further monitoring (which is
ongoing once you're on the medical merry-go-round) located the presence of prostate cancer.
My father has prostate cancer and is lossing weight steadily. Any advice about what he can do to stop his loss of weight?
Please list any study that shows a "nutrient rich diet" of animal meats and fats that increases metastatic prostate cancer.
My guess is there isn’t any.

What has tomato based products got to do with prostate cancer?
The lycopene in them. Tomatoes are best cooked in a little olive oil first.
Lycopene in tomatos and tomato products are prostate cancer preventative...do your research!
I would stick with keto/low carb & fasting! Lowering A1C is huge for cardiovascular health, and less cancer risk overall. Good job!!
@@doriagh Sounds like a great plan, thanks for sharing.
Going plant based Whole Foods whether vegetarian or vegan or Mediterranean is not a hardship. It’s a fantastic way to eat and should be encouraged for everyone. Learn how to cook and prepare food and you will be amazed at how easy and delicious and satisfying eating well can be. It is the foundation of good health

Does one “catch” cancer? What does he mean? It’s contagious?
I have been diagnosed with PC in Jan 2022.had bilateral orchiodechtomy in March and started Arbireterone tabs 4 a day.my PSA has dropped from 162 to0.5 after 3months.i have cut out all animal protein and am only taking one egg a day from grass fed chicken.is that ok or should I stop that also.
If possible do over 1 hour walks every day out in the fresh air, for prostate cancer the most important is exercise
What's ur age sir
What's ur gelson score & stage

Hi does cycling afects the prostate cancer? My gleson score was 3+5 have done 28 radiations an proced to hormone therapy with Loupron 8 months ago and continue . i am 73 years old and i am a fanatical cyclist that;s why i am interestin in. Thanks in advance for yor answer
My husband (80), who has PC, and I (75) do keto too. Every Sunday we do an OMAD (one meal day). We have a BIG breakfast and then don't eat until the next day (20-24 hour fast).
Why vitamin D?

We have something in common but I don't have PC and I will be 73 y.o. in a month. I recently stopped an intermittent fasting eating plan from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. made easy by zipping a herbal tea with several herbs and including green tea and coffee in the morning.. Thank you for your comment.
I just don't fully buy that animal protein is bad for the prostate. And I think Keto is awesome because you are getting in your animal protein with good veggies great to hear about your PSA moving in the right direction. I know you comment is almost a year ago how are you doing now? Hope you are still doing well!
My Dad got prostate cancer when he was about my age. He is super healthy, he just didnt eat sugar, drink, smoke, no overweight. I'm a little bit unhealthier because of my work and lack of time. But still ok. And now I'm waiting for my biopsy results but not looking good on the mri.

I’m 66yo, plant based plus fatty fish. PSA has been 0.7 for decades. I’ve noticed that if I go for a trail run (4mi) as I do each day and then get a PSA it can be as high as 1.2, the next month pre exercise back to 0.7 … what’s up ?
One doesn't "catch" cancer as a cold or flu. That caught my attention coming from a doctor. But I have slow growing PC (PSA 6 and Gleason 6) and appreciate the information
Me too...
If you listened carefully, you’d understand that he didn’t mean “ catch”, as in contract , like a cold or other viral infection ; he meant “catch “ as in detect or find and treat - viz. “luckily we caught the cancer early “. Please try to understand.
what about high blood sugar
Thx for this great new video,! Regarding dairy products I just wonder that you recommend vegetarian diet and not vegan diet, especially WFPMD. Animal products are also in mild, cheese etc. Any thoughts?

Other MDs say that usually cancers feed on sugar but prostate cancer is different. This speaker says prostate cancer feeds on animal fat.
