I am also considering the 1301 based off this and many other reviews. I am also looking at the Mossberg 940 though as my first semi auto tac shotty. This is the only thing that has kept me from fully committing a couple of grand plus another grand for ammo and range time probably.
For the 1301, there's also an upgrade to the lifter to keep it always up until you push the release button. helps with faster reloading and no lifter thumb.
Shoot man i dont think i have the shotgun expirience to understand why such an upgrade would matter. Me personally if it has a safey id like that removed. Call me crazy if you want but you hear a window break in rem sleep, you dont knos if its 1am or 5am. You grab the shotgun, coming around the corner into thd kitchen you see a rampage methead butchering cannibalistic rapist that looks like they already killed the neighblr or the dog. Now, 2 things can happen: for one, you pull the trigger, nothing happens, you get stabbed and die. If you dont have to worry about a saftey, kablamo you blast him all over the last slice of pizza. I know, the humanity. Only problem is if you dont have a saftey you have to worry about idiots but tbh i think stupid people wont be stopped by a saftey look at hollywood recently. I wish a benelli m4 didnt cost a fortune. I really like the pump shotguns but semi auto shotguns is like an automatic car, its just the standard these days. Pumps are still good. A pump shotgun can do a lot esspecially if we keep banning gun restrictions thsy violate 2a and developing cooler ammos. Theres alresdy lots but corrupt tyrannical places like youtube cracking down
I own a 1301 as a lefty, and the safety can be swapped to the other side. It's pretty easy, just have to pull the trigger pack out and futz with some tiny springs (mine went flying across the room, of course)
@John Doe I got my 1301 for $850 Gen 1, summer before wu tang flu. I love it but to get the LTT version if you can. It comes in at $1600 but I spent an additional $800 to turn it into a similar build. Worth the wait in my opinion and those extras aren't cheap.
I have a fully decked out 1301, got all the Aridus stuff with an RMR and a nice Surefire light. I was originally planning on getting the M4, but locally, couldn’t find one for a normal price. Picked up the 1301 at the Beretta store in Midtown Manhattan for just over $1000. Have run about 500 Rds through it, pretty much just slings and buckshot, but it’s been perfect. Glad I saved some money, love the gun.
Take that and go through it!!! Smooth out rough spots and polish certain points and you’ll be happy!!! Most “nice” shotguns are just finished better therefore they run better. It won’t be the same as a beretta but you won’t have $2 grand plus invested haha
I was torn over this decision myself. But I started shooting the Beretta A400 roughly 100+ rounds a week (sporting clays). Given that the 1301 and A400 have the same controls & placement I went with the 1301.
@@gutadin5 it's 5+1 standard. I had to backorder a Nordic Comp magazine extension and it's en route. Certain firearm parts are hard to come by right now.
While I love the M4 the $2k price tag isn't entirely accurate. Sure it's $2k in castrated form. After you get a 7 round tube and make it 922r compliant, it's closer to $2500.
@@joshuagibson2520 922R is a law requiring imported guns have a specific number of US made parts if they fit a certain criteria. Once you make it a 7 round gun, it now has to comply with 922r to be legal. So you must put US made parts in the firearm. And yeah, it's about as serious of a law as the NFA is, so you really don't want to tempt fate over a few hundred dollars.

I bought a 1301 from Langdon Tactical with all of the options except for the RMR or Aimpoint mount and it came in over 1700 and some change. It's an outstanding shotgun.Love it very well made. The fit and finish is beautiful. I don't find shooting 00 buck or slugs to punch like Mike said, but that's all perception to each individual. I have shot a friends Benelli and it didnt find it all that impressive. I will take the 1301 any day.
@@StevenL00 I believe mine took around 2 and half months from the time I ordered. They will open up pre orders on their website. You may want to send Langdon an email to make sure that's how they are still taking orders. If you place an order for one I don't think you will be disappointed.
My M4 runs Walmart aluminum based Federal birdshots out the box w/o problem. Choked a few times with Winchester white box in the first 400 rds. Never had any other problem and it is super accurate and soft shooting with all the serious loads. Given its best in class construction and track record. I would say that's a good combat shoty.
@James You're partially right, I got a 1301 LTT, they both run cheapest bird load to federal premium buck or slug just fine. I have to say 1301 LTT at lighter weight does feel incredible to handle.
So I dreamed of a m4 for 10 years bought it 3 weeks ago, caught wind of the 1301 on UA-cam recently and thought..............blah blah nahhhhh. So after watching multiple videos, I ordered the 1301 FDE yesterday. I can't wait!
I have a Benelli M3 select fire. It's both a pump and a semi auto. They are very rare and have a almost unicorn like presence. Took me 5 years of searching to find and buy mine. Also have Mossberg 590 Military/Police pump with ghost ring sights, heat shield and bayonet lug and a Mossberg 590 Shockwave pump. My hunting and trap shotguns are a Remington 11-87 Premier semi-auto and a H&R single shot 12 gauge. My old school HD shotgun is a old Stevens 311 double barrel stagecoach 12 gauge.
Most of the people that I have personally spoken with that do NOT like the M4 have never shot one. I used and loved it in the Corps and in LE. Now that I'm retired and have to pay for these things, I got the Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol - the Poor Man's 1301. Great review. Thanks.
Excellent comparison. I’ve been back and forth between the Benelli and the Beretta. Ordered the M4 today, although don’t think I’d gone wrong with the 1301. Believe it or not - the price point difference was less than $300. Always enjoy your reviews.
Sigh ... over here, the M4 right now is nowhere to find below 2,500€. The 1301 Tactical is available for 1,400€ and the Competition around 2,000€. As much as I would prefer the M4's longevity, the 1301 is objectively the better deal.
Have shot both. Both are great. Owned a Benelli M4 for years (was my backcountry defense when living in Alaska). Seems to me the M4 is built slight better and can take more abuse. For what it’s worth, go with the M4.
@@MOVIEKICKS Never had the biting problem. Did install a bigger after-market changing handle, extended capacity feed tube and a milled ammo sidesaddle - all with minimal snagging. Both weapons are excellent but given the choice, I’d opt for the M4 every time.
Watching all the reviews I went with the m4. One comment I read stood out more than most and it said rack the m4 then rack the 1301. There is a reason the m4 is heavier. I believe most of that weight is in a beefier receiver.
Great review. I’m stuck in the pump gun mode 870 or 590, I love them both. Then again although I had to learn to run a Glock I still carry 1911’s. Not that they are better, just better for me!
My mind tells me to buy the 1301, so does my wallet and my family. My heart on the other hand. Knows only one shotgun. The m4. Needless to say I bought an m4😂
I kept trying to convince myself to get the 1301. My local gun store had both in stock. Still ended up getting the M4 H20 tactical. I liked the additional weight, but mostly, the looks lol
If you go for a spin in a Porsche 911 4S you will understand that you were in the best car on Earth and you don’t need to test drive any other car. The same thing apply to a Beretta 1301 Tactical. This is simply the best semi-auto shotgun on Earth. Benelli makes great hunting shotguns, but their M4 is not even close to Beretta 1301. Fact that our Military adopted M4 has nothing to do with the gun quality, it has to do with who paid Military Generals more money to sign the contract.
Get the JM Pro 940, regular 930 chokes harder than your wife. If you can't, Gen 1 1301 could be found in that $850-$1000 price range. Don't know how much they are currently but you should wait until the summer. This Is Not The Time To Buy.
Owned a 940 JM Pro, replaced it with a 1301 Comp Pro! The 940 is nowhere near the shotgun that the 1301 is, the 1301 is truly a superior firearm in every aspect.
The thing about the M4 is that after you buy it. You also have to a have more money to make it 922r complaint and then more money to buy an extended tube, Unfortunately I don't have tons of money just laying around. It's the 1301 for me. Maybe not as sturdy. But I also don't plan on dragging it through the Iraqi dessert. If money were no object, I would go with the M4 for sure.
Small Arms Solutions has forever sold me on the Benelli. I know the Beretta 1301 is amazing as well. I'm an armchair genius, I have studied guns since the beginning of 2017 pretty much every day but I have never shot a gun....bwaha, you know just in case The Rapture melts our guns XD.
I have quite a few shotguns especially semi autos but for home defense my KSG is my go to its compact which makes it great for maneuverability in a house and holds 13 rnds of 3"
Same here. The KSG is not "go to war" reliable but it will work in HD situations. It can also shoot Aguila mini shells (22 slugs or 00 buckshot should get the job done and with that many rounds makes reloading unlikely). I put a brake on mine that loos like it belongs on a Howitzer artillery gun but man, it tames the perceived recoil on full power loads.
I bought the new Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol LE edition, I love it.! I also want the 1301 Tactical because it has greater aftermarket parts availability. I'm also going to pick up 2x police turn-in Beretta 1201FPs for the family. They are all nice and light and easy to use. I guess I'll be buying a lot of Federal LE 2.75in. (70mm) FliteControl Low Recoil (my absolute favorite 00 Buck for reliability, accuracy, and of course recoil mitigation). I have shot the 1301 and it is f-a-s-t! I wish that the 1301 factory stock was as grippy as the A300 Patrol but I will likely swap furniture anyway. The Beretta 1201FP uses the proven Benelli recoil driven action and is essentially a poor man's M4.
Had both screw both spend half the money got a Mossberg 930jm pro larger capacity relatively same weight for me slightly longer choke options half the price didn't look back
@@4everis2morrow I just went to the FN Herstal site and they showed all types of firearms except shotguns. Maybe they are getting out of the shotgun business for now. The FN SLP is still a fantastic shotgun and there are plenty for sale right now, new and used.
Bit the bullet and got an M4 when the Turkish clones gave me the bug for one. Put 25 rounds through it today, 3 inch steel shot, recoil is pleasant. I love the thing.
I have the 1301 Comp, and the tube-extension (Nordic, I think) allows for 9+1, without going beyond the barrel, and so far, only with Hornady Critical Defense. Please keep in mind that not all 2 3/4 are the same length. The name "2-and-three-quarter-inches" comes from measuring the length of the shell *before* it is crimped... .different factories use different crimps, and Hornady's is about a quarter-inch shorter than Winchester or Federal... and that's just enough to put in one extra shell. - Also, for the 1301, with heavier loads it *does* kick harder than the M4.... *BUT* ... you can also install the "Beretta Kick-Off" system, which is a little hydraulic piece that goes into the buttstock, and you *will* notice a *big difference* in the heavier loads. Though curiously it offers no noticeable benefit on weak loads, such as when shooting clays. However, as noted by this video, 'clay-shot' is very, very mild out of the 1301. - Can't speak to the long-term reliability, but in every other category, the 1301 is the better firearm. Lighter, faster, less recoil on soft *and* hard shots (with the Kick-Off system), and costs less to boot. - Final thought: 3-gunners use it for a reason, and what they like about it is what *you* should like about it: _it's their best mechanical benefit in putting lead on target fastest._ ... and if you think about it, *that's EXACTLY how you improve your odds of surviving a shooting encounter: **_the fastest to put lead on target wins._*
All in all I believe the M4 is the best, but for the price you cannot beat the 1301, I’d rather spend less and still get an amazing gun. If one was gifted to me obviously I’d pick the M4 but if I bought one I’d be perfectly fine with the 1301 over the M4
I just picked up the M1014 (M4 California model) a couple days ago. Took out and shot it yesterday. She’s got some kick, but was on point out of the box. It was more than I wanted to spend, but it will be around long after I’m gone.
I love my 1301. Mine is the competition version. I changed the lifter out for the newer version. Lifter stays up out of the way. Much easier for loading.

Just outstanding! I am a long time tactical shotgun fan. The more content on them the better for me. Maybe a three gun shoot off with the 1301, the m4 and the 930 for starters? Then you can round it off by adding the 870 and the 590a1? Can't get enough so give us more!

I currently 2 FN SLP MK1 combat shotguns. They are absolutely Go to War gun. I would trust my life to them. The gave a fantastic piston system. They're easy to field strip, clean, & to reassemble. I like that they hold 8+1. Watch the Nutnfancy vid on them for a comprehensive review on them. I am so so happy that I had them before all of this craziness. I bought the first on new for $1200 at my FFL, the 2nd I bought at Cabelas in the used gun section. It was like new for $850, a smoking price. It was set up nicely, Streamlight light, side saddle, etc., with other stuff thrown in. I got out of Cabalas before the changed their minds, lol....
I bought a 1301 recently and although I can not compare it to a Benelli M4, recoil is quite manageable and IT BEATS ANY PUMP SHOTGUN RECOIL BY A COUNTRY MILE. That BLINK system is outstanding. Taking all the factors into account (e.g., control, weight, 3 gun capability, loading gate, cost, recoil, and reliability), my humble opinion is the 1301 all day long and twice on Sunday.
How can you recommend the 1301 if you can’t compare it to the m4? Means nothing unless you’ve shot the m4. These are the 2 best shotguns on the market (m4 generally being considered the better of the 2) if you haven’t shot both you can’t recommend one over the other.

I am NOT a shotgunner much, I have owned a dozen or so. 870, 500, 390 silver mallard, couple sxs...even a 10 guage Browning.... the M4 is a beast. As fast as you pull the trigger IT WORKS. It always works. It is the standard all others are judged for a reason.
Thank you for this. I'm struggling with this exact conundrum. Price is similar once you upgrade the 1301 (in my opinion). Plus, getting NFA 1301s is tougher than shorty M4s. The biggest issue is the loading gate biting on the M4. Kinda wish you would've spent more time on manual of arms and manipulations comparisons. That's frequently the difference between two platforms. Especially if you take classes and train with them. I'll reach tomorrow and have a dealer pull their M4 Entry I've been eyeing. Everything else is details.
Thanks Mike for the real world evaluation of the high end shotguns. When I bought my Mossberg 930 spx and my Remington 1187 they were always compared to the the Benelli and the Beretta. They are probably the best but I am happy with my purchases. A little sad at what happened to Remington with bankruptcy.
4:23 “the safety is crossbolt on both of the firearms. If you’re left handed I guess you gotta deal with it.” I’ve heard from several sources that at least on the 1301, you can reverse it to be a ‘left handed’ crossbolt safety.

Stellar review of two fine tax’ shotguns. It is not lost on me that both are Italian blasters. I have been shooting Beretta OUs for 40 years in the field and sporting clays wjth rock solid dependability. I have the 1301 tax’ kitted out for home defense… with 2,000 rounds through. Nearly all 00 buck’ training with measured at-home shooting lanes. I don’t find the felt recoil excessive unless I do a bunch or simulated

I’ll stick to my $800 590A1 w/Magpul furniture! I can pump em out almost as fast as a semi and definitely fast enough to take care of bidness! Over 2 Grand for a neutered model that still needs extra money spent to get the adjustable stock and extension.

I don't see how you got 71 dislikes, this was an AWESOME comparison video. Some people will swear by their Mossberg or other manufacturer, but based on your experiences and use, these are the 2 most reliable and functional models. The fact that I also agree with your assessment makes it even more relevant. After shooting numerous shotguns I shot the M-4 and with the felt recoil and follow-up shots I was literally blown away. I purchased a used a M4, had it cerakoted in the h2o satin aluminum color, changed to the extended 7rd mag tube, adjustable stock, and strike industries mlok handguard(and several other 922r compliant parts) and it looks just like a factory H2O M4. I never enjoyed shooting a shotgun until the M4. Back to the video, enjoy the comparison and enjoy shooting what you shoot. Thank you for a very well done video. After this video I'm actually going to take a second look at the Beretta, but friends that shoot my M4 say the same thing, that was the first shotgun that they enjoyed shooting.
Key differences between the two are that the Beretta is a gas operated shotgun, while the Benelli is a Recoil operated shotgun. The Beretta will kick a minimum of 40% less than the Benelli, and this feels substantially less to me. I had choke tubes installed in all of my Self Defense shotguns, so my self defense shot gun can be a coyote, deer, shotgun as well patterning 20" pattern at 40 yards with various types of full and Extra full chokes. The Kicks Butt Kicker chokes in particular is a great choke. I do not shoot Federal Flight control shells in tigher chokes than Modified.
There's a third option... While other US service branches are running the Benelli M4, US Marines are running the Benelli M1014 variant, which was also adopted by British Marines on a rush procurement upon seeing its benefits with US Marines they were serving with in Afghanistan Good enough for the Marines, good enough for me
I feel like this is a 1A/ 1B situation. You can’t go wrong with either. And they equally offer a couple of benefits the other doesn’t. For me, I’ll take a 1301T, with all of the upgrades for basically the same price as an M4.
June 2024 now the LTT 1301 are around $2000 and the Benelli M4 is still around $2000. However the new LTT Beretta 1301 has mass improvements and shooting one of my buddies M4s and my recently acquired LTT 1301 I do prefer the 1301
@@patricktitan4241 I put a little less than 100 rounds through it, mostly random, mixed birdshot that I had lying around. I had several jams with that and with some low-recoil slugs. No problems with a box of Federal Hi-Brass though.
@@herknorth8691 Stoeger is awesome; I have a m3500. make sure you give it a hot-water bath to get all the crap grease off, then id invest in a Benelli extractor just for peace of mind. they are known to have issues with low-brass rounds for the first little while. after shooting a box of 3" high brass and a box of 2 3/4 high brass through it it cycles everything so don't fret too much though, I had to do the same thing with my Benelli M4 and now it cycles flawlessly. you'll enjoy the piss out of the Stoeger.
Langdon Tactical has touched my Beretta 92, Beretta Centurion, and my Beretta 92X. If they did with the 1301 what they did with my pistols, I'm in! Anything they touch I'm in! Don't care about the price, because Langdon's quality is the best! Plus, I already own a Benelli M4 and want to grow collection. 🤭🤣🇺🇲😎
1301 all the way. I personally kept the oem foregrip. Love aridus’s stuff but the magpul Zhukov foregrip is too thin walled and easily flexes like a cheap plastic feel.
Back in 2010 I worked at a fast food restaurant getting $9 an hour I saved up for 3 months and bought me a LE VERSION BENELLI M4 for $1700 it came with collapsing stock and 7 round mag. To me it wasn’t that expensive even then for such an amazing shotgun. If a kid with a kids job can afford one anyone can. The m4 shotgun has been a dream since the day I bought it and still is 12 years later. I’ve shot and bought many different shotguns since then including the 1301 . I’ve sold them all except my beloved m4. I personally think the benelli m4 is the best semi-auto shotgun ever made.
Honestly I bought most of my guns in the late 80s while in college and working a $4-7hr (raises) thru college while paying for school also. It was much more difficult to buy anything while married with kids and a house to pay for. Easy now with the kids university paid for and no house no longer a worry.

I like the benelli. I feel it’s a serious use shotgun but at the same time can be used for hunting without standing out too much. You can swap out chokes.
So what he shows us in this video is a *NP3* coating H2O M4 (not the cerakote one) which had been discontinues, lucky if you can find one around $6000!

Take that and go through it!!! Smooth out rough spots and polish certain points and you’ll be happy!!! Most “nice” shotguns are just finished better therefore they run better. It won’t be the same as a beretta but you won’t have $2 grand plus invested haha
I was torn over this decision myself. But I started shooting the Beretta A400 roughly 100+ rounds a week (sporting clays). Given that the 1301 and A400 have the same controls & placement I went with the 1301.
I have several shotguns, just got the benelli, but now have the 1301 in my sights.. the best shotgun to have is ALL OF THEM!

While I love the M4 the $2k price tag isn't entirely accurate. Sure it's $2k in castrated form. After you get a 7 round tube and make it 922r compliant, it's closer to $2500.

@@joshuagibson2520 922R is a law requiring imported guns have a specific number of US made parts if they fit a certain criteria. Once you make it a 7 round gun, it now has to comply with 922r to be legal. So you must put US made parts in the firearm. And yeah, it's about as serious of a law as the NFA is, so you really don't want to tempt fate over a few hundred dollars.

Only had one jam with my M4 so far. It was Winchester Universal low brass, below freezing and my brother was hip firing it. Incredibly reliable.
I bought a 1301 from Langdon Tactical with all of the options except for the RMR or Aimpoint mount and it came in over 1700 and some change.
It's an outstanding shotgun.Love it very well made. The fit and finish is beautiful. I don't find shooting 00 buck or slugs to punch like Mike said, but that's all perception to each individual. I have shot a friends Benelli and it didnt find it all that impressive. I will take the 1301 any day.

My M4 runs Walmart aluminum based Federal birdshots out the box w/o problem. Choked a few times with Winchester white box in the first 400 rds. Never had any other problem and it is super accurate and soft shooting with all the serious loads. Given its best in class construction and track record. I would say that's a good combat shoty.
@James You're partially right, I got a 1301 LTT, they both run cheapest bird load to federal premium buck or slug just fine. I have to say 1301 LTT at lighter weight does feel incredible to handle.
@James using shitty ammo is a great way to test your gun. Both shitty (but safe to shoot) and premium ammo have their place
So I dreamed of a m4 for 10 years bought it 3 weeks ago, caught wind of the 1301 on UA-cam recently and thought..............blah blah nahhhhh. So after watching multiple videos, I ordered the 1301 FDE yesterday. I can't wait!

I have a Benelli M3 select fire. It's both a pump and a semi auto. They are very rare and have a almost unicorn like presence. Took me 5 years of searching to find and buy mine. Also have Mossberg 590 Military/Police pump with ghost ring sights, heat shield and bayonet lug and a Mossberg 590 Shockwave pump. My hunting and trap shotguns are a Remington 11-87 Premier semi-auto and a H&R single shot 12 gauge. My old school HD shotgun is a old Stevens 311 double barrel stagecoach 12 gauge.

The 930 SPX is an excellent choice. I picked up one used with all the tactical goodies for around $500 a few years back.
Most of the people that I have personally spoken with that do NOT like the M4 have never shot one. I used and loved it in the Corps and in LE. Now that I'm retired and have to pay for these things, I got the Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol - the Poor Man's 1301. Great review. Thanks.

Excellent comparison. I’ve been back and forth between the Benelli and the Beretta. Ordered the M4 today, although don’t think I’d gone wrong with the 1301. Believe it or not - the price point difference was less than $300. Always enjoy your reviews.

Sigh ... over here, the M4 right now is nowhere to find below 2,500€. The 1301 Tactical is available for 1,400€ and the Competition around 2,000€. As much as I would prefer the M4's longevity, the 1301 is objectively the better deal.

Have shot both. Both are great. Owned a Benelli M4 for years (was my backcountry defense when living in Alaska). Seems to me the M4 is built slight better and can take more abuse. For what it’s worth, go with the M4.

@@MOVIEKICKS Never had the biting problem. Did install a bigger after-market changing handle, extended capacity feed tube and a milled ammo sidesaddle - all with minimal snagging. Both weapons are excellent but given the choice, I’d opt for the M4 every time.

Watching all the reviews I went with the m4. One comment I read stood out more than most and it said rack the m4 then rack the 1301. There is a reason the m4 is heavier. I believe most of that weight is in a beefier receiver.

Great review. I’m stuck in the pump gun mode 870 or 590, I love them both. Then again although I had to learn to run a Glock I still carry 1911’s. Not that they are better, just better for me!

If you go for a spin in a Porsche 911 4S you will understand that you were in the best car on Earth and you don’t need to test drive any other car. The same thing apply to a Beretta 1301 Tactical. This is simply the best semi-auto shotgun on Earth. Benelli makes great hunting shotguns, but their M4 is not even close to Beretta 1301. Fact that our Military adopted M4 has nothing to do with the gun quality, it has to do with who paid Military Generals more money to sign the contract.

Get the JM Pro 940, regular 930 chokes harder than your wife. If you can't, Gen 1 1301 could be found in that $850-$1000 price range. Don't know how much they are currently but you should wait until the summer. This Is Not The Time To Buy.
Owned a 940 JM Pro, replaced it with a 1301 Comp Pro! The 940 is nowhere near the shotgun that the 1301 is, the 1301 is truly a superior firearm in every aspect.
The thing about the M4 is that after you buy it. You also have to a have more money to make it 922r complaint and then more money to buy an extended tube, Unfortunately I don't have tons of money just laying around. It's the 1301 for me. Maybe not as sturdy. But I also don't plan on dragging it through the Iraqi dessert. If money were no object, I would go with the M4 for sure.
I went with the Benelli m3. To me it's the best tactical shotgun you can buy. Semiautomatic for most loads, and pump action for low powered loads.
Small Arms Solutions has forever sold me on the Benelli. I know the Beretta 1301 is amazing as well. I'm an armchair genius, I have studied guns since the beginning of 2017 pretty much every day but I have never shot a gun....bwaha, you know just in case The Rapture melts our guns XD.
I have quite a few shotguns especially semi autos but for home defense my KSG is my go to its compact which makes it great for maneuverability in a house and holds 13 rnds of 3"
Same here. The KSG is not "go to war" reliable but it will work in HD situations. It can also shoot Aguila mini shells (22 slugs or 00 buckshot should get the job done and with that many rounds makes reloading unlikely). I put a brake on mine that loos like it belongs on a Howitzer artillery gun but man, it tames the perceived recoil on full power loads.
I bought the new Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol LE edition, I love it.! I also want the 1301 Tactical because it has greater aftermarket parts availability. I'm also going to pick up 2x police turn-in Beretta 1201FPs for the family. They are all nice and light and easy to use. I guess I'll be buying a lot of Federal LE 2.75in. (70mm) FliteControl Low Recoil (my absolute favorite 00 Buck for reliability, accuracy, and of course recoil mitigation). I have shot the 1301 and it is f-a-s-t! I wish that the 1301 factory stock was as grippy as the A300 Patrol but I will likely swap furniture anyway. The Beretta 1201FP uses the proven Benelli recoil driven action and is essentially a poor man's M4.
Appreciate your recommendation for both. I was able to purchase a H2O le from my local shop with extended mag tube and adjustable stock. 1800.

My 1301 Comp 21 is a do-all machine. It's short enough to not be too much slower than the T model, and with chokes I can use it for doves and ducks.

I just went to the FN Herstal site and they showed all types of firearms except shotguns. Maybe they are getting out of the shotgun business for now. The FN SLP is still a fantastic shotgun and there are plenty for sale right now, new and used.
Bit the bullet and got an M4 when the Turkish clones gave me the bug for one. Put 25 rounds through it today, 3 inch steel shot, recoil is pleasant. I love the thing.

I have the 1301 Comp, and the tube-extension (Nordic, I think) allows for 9+1, without going beyond the barrel, and so far, only with Hornady Critical Defense. Please keep in mind that not all 2 3/4 are the same length. The name "2-and-three-quarter-inches" comes from measuring the length of the shell *before* it is crimped... .different factories use different crimps, and Hornady's is about a quarter-inch shorter than Winchester or Federal... and that's just enough to put in one extra shell.

Also, for the 1301, with heavier loads it *does* kick harder than the M4.... *BUT* ... you can also install the "Beretta Kick-Off" system, which is a little hydraulic piece that goes into the buttstock, and you *will* notice a *big difference* in the heavier loads. Though curiously it offers no noticeable benefit on weak loads, such as when shooting clays. However, as noted by this video, 'clay-shot' is very, very mild out of the 1301.

Can't speak to the long-term reliability, but in every other category, the 1301 is the better firearm. Lighter, faster, less recoil on soft *and* hard shots (with the Kick-Off system), and costs less to boot.

Final thought: 3-gunners use it for a reason, and what they like about it is what *you* should like about it: _it's their best mechanical benefit in putting lead on target fastest._ ... and if you think about it, *that's EXACTLY how you improve your odds of surviving a shooting encounter: **_the fastest to put lead on target wins._*
All in all I believe the M4 is the best, but for the price you cannot beat the 1301, I’d rather spend less and still get an amazing gun. If one was gifted to me obviously I’d pick the M4 but if I bought one I’d be perfectly fine with the 1301 over the M4
I just picked up the M1014 (M4 California model) a couple days ago. Took out and shot it yesterday. She’s got some kick, but was on point out of the box. It was more than I wanted to spend, but it will be around long after I’m gone.

I love my 1301. Mine is the competition version. I changed the lifter out for the newer version. Lifter stays up out of the way. Much easier for loading.

I currently 2 FN SLP MK1 combat shotguns. They are absolutely Go to War gun. I would trust my life to them. The gave a fantastic piston system. They're easy to field strip, clean, & to reassemble. I like that they hold 8+1. Watch the Nutnfancy vid on them for a comprehensive review on them. I am so so happy that I had them before all of this craziness. I bought the first on new for $1200 at my FFL, the 2nd I bought at Cabelas in the used gun section. It was like new for $850, a smoking price. It was set up nicely, Streamlight light, side saddle, etc., with other stuff thrown in. I got out of Cabalas before the changed their minds, lol....

I bought a 1301 recently and although I can not compare it to a Benelli M4, recoil is quite manageable and IT BEATS ANY PUMP SHOTGUN RECOIL BY A COUNTRY MILE. That BLINK system is outstanding. Taking all the factors into account (e.g., control, weight, 3 gun capability, loading gate, cost, recoil, and reliability), my humble opinion is the 1301 all day long and twice on Sunday.
The plastic parts are a turn off for me in cold environment
How can you recommend the 1301 if you can’t compare it to the m4? Means nothing unless you’ve shot the m4. These are the 2 best shotguns on the market (m4 generally being considered the better of the 2) if you haven’t shot both you can’t recommend one over the other.

The 1301 came out with a kick off stock. I wonder if that really helps in the recoil vs M4.
Never shot the M4, but I do have a M2 and being totally honest I prefer my VersaMax Competition Tactical. That is best shotgun I ever shot.
I am NOT a shotgunner much, I have owned a dozen or so. 870, 500, 390 silver mallard, couple sxs...even a 10 guage Browning....
the M4 is a beast. As fast as you pull the trigger IT WORKS. It always works. It is the standard all others are judged for a reason.

Thank you for this. I'm struggling with this exact conundrum. Price is similar once you upgrade the 1301 (in my opinion). Plus, getting NFA 1301s is tougher than shorty M4s. The biggest issue is the loading gate biting on the M4. Kinda wish you would've spent more time on manual of arms and manipulations comparisons. That's frequently the difference between two platforms. Especially if you take classes and train with them. I'll reach tomorrow and have a dealer pull their M4 Entry I've been eyeing. Everything else is details.

Thanks Mike for the real world evaluation of the high end shotguns. When I bought my Mossberg 930 spx and my Remington 1187 they were always compared to the the Benelli and the Beretta. They are probably the best but I am happy with my purchases. A little sad at what happened to Remington with bankruptcy.

Stellar review of two fine tax’ shotguns. It is not lost on me that both are Italian blasters. I have been shooting Beretta OUs for 40 years in the field and sporting clays wjth rock solid dependability. I have the 1301 tax’ kitted out for home defense… with 2,000 rounds through. Nearly all 00 buck’ training with measured at-home shooting lanes. I don’t find the felt recoil excessive unless I do a bunch or simulated

I don't see how you got 71 dislikes, this was an AWESOME comparison video. Some people will swear by their Mossberg or other manufacturer, but based on your experiences and use, these are the 2 most reliable and functional models. The fact that I also agree with your assessment makes it even more relevant. After shooting numerous shotguns I shot the M-4 and with the felt recoil and follow-up shots I was literally blown away. I purchased a used a M4, had it cerakoted in the h2o satin aluminum color, changed to the extended 7rd mag tube, adjustable stock, and strike industries mlok handguard(and several other 922r compliant parts) and it looks just like a factory H2O M4. I never enjoyed shooting a shotgun until the M4. Back to the video, enjoy the comparison and enjoy shooting what you shoot. Thank you for a very well done video. After this video I'm actually going to take a second look at the Beretta, but friends that shoot my M4 say the same thing, that was the first shotgun that they enjoyed shooting.
It's about time someone made this video.
Key differences between the two are that the Beretta is a gas operated shotgun, while the Benelli is a Recoil operated shotgun. The Beretta will kick a minimum of 40% less than the Benelli, and this feels substantially less to me.
I had choke tubes installed in all of my Self Defense shotguns, so my self defense shot gun can be a coyote, deer, shotgun as well patterning 20" pattern at 40 yards with various types of full and Extra full chokes. The Kicks Butt Kicker chokes in particular is a great choke.
I do not shoot Federal Flight control shells in tigher chokes than Modified.
There's a third option...
While other US service branches are running the Benelli M4, US Marines are running the Benelli M1014 variant, which was also adopted by British Marines on a rush procurement upon seeing its benefits with US Marines they were serving with in Afghanistan

I feel like this is a 1A/ 1B situation. You can’t go wrong with either. And they equally offer a couple of benefits the other doesn’t. For me, I’ll take a 1301T, with all of the upgrades for basically the same price as an M4.
Love my M4...expensive, but if there is one gun worth putting your money into...it's the Benelli M4! cant go wrong with that baby!
June 2024 now the LTT 1301 are around $2000 and the Benelli M4 is still around $2000. However the new LTT Beretta 1301 has mass improvements and shooting one of my buddies M4s and my recently acquired LTT 1301 I do prefer the 1301

@@patricktitan4241 I put a little less than 100 rounds through it, mostly random, mixed birdshot that I had lying around. I had several jams with that and with some low-recoil slugs. No problems with a box of Federal Hi-Brass though.
@@herknorth8691 Stoeger is awesome; I have a m3500. make sure you give it a hot-water bath to get all the crap grease off, then id invest in a Benelli extractor just for peace of mind. they are known to have issues with low-brass rounds for the first little while. after shooting a box of 3" high brass and a box of 2 3/4 high brass through it it cycles everything so don't fret too much though, I had to do the same thing with my Benelli M4 and now it cycles flawlessly. you'll enjoy the piss out of the Stoeger.

1301 all the way. I personally kept the oem foregrip. Love aridus’s stuff but the magpul Zhukov foregrip is too thin walled and easily flexes like a cheap plastic feel.

Back in 2010 I worked at a fast food restaurant getting $9 an hour I saved up for 3 months and bought me a
LE VERSION BENELLI M4 for $1700 it came with collapsing stock and 7 round mag. To me it wasn’t that expensive even then for such an amazing shotgun. If a kid with a kids job can afford one anyone can. The m4 shotgun has been a dream since the day I bought it and still is 12 years later. I’ve shot and bought many different shotguns since then including the 1301 . I’ve sold them all except my beloved m4. I personally think the benelli m4 is the best semi-auto shotgun ever made.

Honestly I bought most of my guns in the late 80s while in college and working a $4-7hr (raises) thru college while paying for school also. It was much more difficult to buy anything while married with kids and a house to pay for. Easy now with the kids university paid for and no house no longer a worry.
Thanks for the thorough comparison. I do have an M4 and really do like the way it feels and shoots. I haven't tried shooting lighter loads but your comments will make me try that.
I like the benelli. I feel it’s a serious use shotgun but at the same time can be used for hunting without standing out too much. You can swap out chokes.
