My truck has the same knock and I covered the exhaust pipe with a rag and there is not enough pressure. it turned off the car . Could it be the spark plug or the cat?
I have a 04 Toyota 4 runner with the 4.0 and mine started to spudder and then shut off , I turned it back on and then it has a loud knock sound only at idle but when I give it acceleration it stops , any idea what it could be ?
Just watched this awesome video! I have changed plugs a few times on various vehicles. What is your opinion on using anti-sieze on the spark plug threads? Thanks!
If I had a Ford or something else with an aluminum head, then I would probably use it. I have never had an issue with plugs seizing to a cast iron head. That said, obviously cant hurt..
Obviously... as tho every outcome could be calculated.. followed with a certain optimism off a cat pushing his ninety life. Don't worry you could never do anythinggg that would damage your vehicle. Btw just clear that check engine light when it comes back on... maybe it will stay off 🦧 Anyways sick beard bro! And just saying hope you actual replaced those plugs with the correct plug. Ie. Material. Quality. , style. heatt range. Electrode type. Flame front orientation, It's not all about that gap . all about that gap. Bout that gap. 😆 Also anti seize is a no go as per the industries leading standard NKK spark plugs Reason being, decreases coefficient of fiction. Aka lowers the torque to turn, but does not reduce overall clamping Force making it easier to over torque. Ironically this inevitably leads to seized spark plugs as anti seize breakdown due to heat and oxidization
im surprised you didnt replace the fuel injectors i had that same problem a few days ago it threw every engine code it had but the one that stuck out like a sore thumb was p0206 injector failure, i replaced the plugs then pulled a rail off a 2004 4.0 and injectors off of 2 2000 dodge neons then for added measure i readjusted the TV cable and she runs like the day it was new
Thanks very much... I'm experiencing the same exact symptoms except only 2 misfire codes 2 o2 sensor codes and a crankshaft code... I do have two pre cats ... It has No power at all tho... I can manage to crawl at idle on level surfaces but the more gas I give it the more it seems to choke itself out... High end knock and won't go past 3500 RPM in park and no more than 2k in drive
Before I knew my car had pre cats I drilled a 3/8 hole just before the main cat trying to restore power so I could drive it home... Didn't work but I thought it was strange that it didn't get louder with a hole in the exhaust... Does that mean anything to you???
Hmm.. crank positioning sensor? I had a crank position sensor go in my WJ once and it caused all kinds of mayhem. Engine would randomly choke out, weird idle...
Maybe the y-pipe with the pre-cats is clogged? I have drilled out exhausts before (for the same reason) and if you drill before the muffler you usually get that loud farty sounding exhaust noise

It all depends. I know folks who swear by the 4.7 and those who have had major issues. I personally know a 4.7's with well over 200k and are still going strong. I think it comes down to maintenance.

I have the 4 port injectors in me WJ and they are awesome! That is something I am planning for my XJ in the near future
My 2010 nissan sentra sounds identical and lost all power tonight .
Do you remember what codes lit up when that happened?
Just misfire codes. One for each cylinder.

Nice ,My 4.7 has 185000 and it's still a good Stout motor...How long have you heard of these V8's from 01 Wj's go for?
