    You are completely rescuing Ruby from the errors of her previous owner. I love the satisfaction of knowing another system was restored properly. Excellent job. I should probably do this to Grievous now

    I did a tune up on my 4.0 wrangler and i went from 13 maybe 14 to about 16mpg city and about 20mpg highway driving i changed the plugs and since the throttle body was fairly clean i didn't mess with it. edit when i changed my plugs they were just about as bad as yours and i had 99,000 and some change miles on mine.

    Champion spark plugs are only good for lawn mower engine's 😂 Autolite is the best plug for Jeeps they last forever and are cheap as well . Now the you've cleaned the throttle body and IAC you should check the EGR valve it could be full of carbon too . Great Job and get some dielectric grease for next time .

    Totally agree with you! It’s really amazing how much people neglect their cars... even my dad. I’m going to laugh so hard when his engine in his VW Passat seizes😂😵😬. After all your maintenance, I would recommend a cold ram-air intake... even if the kit is from eBay for 50 bucks, it’s still better than stock IMO, especially on a diesel... maybe you could junkyard Cummins swap a Jeep! It’s probably been done, but I’ve never seen one. Instead of cleaning the throttle body, I would’ve just gotten a bigger one(obviously with the pre-mentioned cold ram-air kit). Have you thought about installing bigger coolant tanks on your cars? More coolant will keep everything cooler, since there is more fluid to heat up. Rerouting the pcv valve tube out and set from the engine instead of back into hit will help reduce carbon buildup, too. Just move it back for inspection.

    • @DEInTheGarage

    Yoo you mentioned an exhaust leak at the end of the vid. Is it by change a sheered exhaust manifold bolt causing your leak? If you could do a video on that whole repair that would be epic. There aren't many good vids out there right now--yours would be a massive help

  • @talis84
    @talis84 5 років тому +2

    Hey Doug, I know it's semantics, but a tune-up is not possible on a new computer controlled engine, unless you talk about reprogramming the "tune" which in a modern sense, is the fuel/air ratio among other things. A tune-up refers to the tune of the engine, which was much more acoustic back in the old days with manually set dwell times, what RPM the engine idles, at what point the choke comes off, and a lot of other things. This is all set by a control unit, which is what "tuners" mess with when the "tune" the engine.
    What you are doing is deferred maintenance that should have been done a long time ago. Still good to to, and should be done, just not a "tune-up" Semantics , I know, but an important distinction nonetheless.

    • @DEInTheGarage
      @DEInTheGarage  5 років тому +3

      Yikes. Lol. Fair enough, but I think we all know it as a "tune-up", right? Also doesn't have the same ring to it. haha. You are definitely correct though!

    • @talis84
      @talis84 5 років тому

      Haha, yeah I know. Like I said I'm arguing semantics. It's just in the 120 some-odd years of automotive history so many people get so many things wrong because they are referring to one thing but calling it another. Plus you always give good tips and tricks.

    What is going on with your Belt. The belt is on wrong look at the Diagram to the right of you. The belt is suppose to go around the Air Conditioner Compressor and go down then come back up. (Follow the Diagram) i can see it to the right in front of the Radiator.

      @@DEInTheGarage Yes I did see that you fixed the belt and I think I commented on it. Own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 very clean ride never been used to tow or in the woods. It's well taken care of but the one think that concerns me is it's fitted with the 0331 Head that is known to Crack but I have had no problems I know about the Tupy Head replacement if nessary. These 0331 Head castings were fitted on all 2000/2001 4.0 Engines. Hope I can dodge that Bullit. If not I will hunt a Tupy Head down and have it rebuilt before installing. Love my XJ 4.0 I know you have that ZJ with the 4.7 but those engines are not for me I'm 65 and have had my share of wrenching . Just a recommendation for those of you whose vehicles have an electronic throttle body, like my 03 hemi or 06 lr3, be careful of what you spray on it and do not force the throttle plate to move. If you do it will probably ruin it, that's how I ruined mine on my 03 hemi. Nonetheless good video and I do quite a bit prefer this channel compared to other ones where, people like me who own land rovers because we like them are seen as stupid people. Now, I'm fine with being teased about it but when you go out and attack the people who buy them without knowing who they are or why they did, that's what annoys me.

    WOW, Can't believe those plug gaps, the worst I've ever seen. Autolite plugs ? What's the recommended plug for your Jeep ? I run NGK in my 4.0 copper plugs, their easy to get to so I use copper. You should also oil the O-ring on the IAC before reinstalling it. GREAT DEMO. ON CLEANING TB. THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE, YES SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO GET DIRTY.
