  • Hello Everyone,
    In today's video, I share with you all what a day in my life as a #chemicalengineer looks like. I studied chemical engineering from the University of Johannesburg. Being a woman in #engineering is really not as easy as it may look.

    I came across this vlog good work sister firstly, im just disappointed in our government for hiring someone who is not south African when we do have qualified chemical Engineers and high unemployment, chemical engineering is not a scares skill where they should hire a non-south african whereas theres people who are struggling and have the qualification.

      Thank you for the comment. Firstly let me correct a misconception you have; I am not hired by the government. Secondly, I studied in South Africa and if I can’t practice in South Africa, why did a South African university accept my fees and make me spend so much money with them to acquire the skills. In as much as you think I am taking from South Africa, I am also contributing to South Africa in a lot of ways. Also note that having the qualification is not all that an employer looks at when looking for an employee. You should note that I don’t just bring the qualification to the table. There is a lot more than that.
      You complain about me who studied in a South African institution working in South Africa, I wonder if you would say same thing for South Africans working in other countries🥴🥴. Or you think those countries don’t have qualified people for the jobs taken by South Africans?

    Is this an engineering plant for production of what?

    • @geraldinengibudjetkeu
      @geraldinengibudjetkeu  Рік тому +1

      They produce plasterboard, fibre cement and provide insulation solutions that protect buildings, infrastructure, home appliances and even vehicles from damage.

    Hi, Do you mind sharing your career path as a chemical engineer… how difficult was it to get an internship and eventually a job

    • @geraldinengibudjetkeu

      Hi,
      I work in engineering consulting. It was very difficult especially because I am foreign but my excellent grades gave me an opportunity for the only interview I ever had in my life. I did well at the interview and the company offered me an internship and eventually employment after the internship. Overall, it was God’s grace ey 🤷🏽‍♀️

      @@geraldinengibudjetkeu okay.. thank you so much for that. I’m at a point where I don’t know if i should stick with Chemical engineering.. or just switch to another type of engineering cause of the amount of employment opportunities after graduation

    • @geraldinengibudjetkeu
      @geraldinengibudjetkeu  7 місяців тому +2

      @GiftReginald-xd8ic I think it’s best you do more research on what you want exactly because honestly the chemical engineering field is very huge even though it’s tough to get it. You could also branch out how to other fields like data analysis, simulations and modelling🤷🏽‍♀️.
      Should you get interview opportunities, you do your best to ace them because that could be the only opportunities you could get. All the best
