In land based live stock they have things called creep feeders. Basic idea is it allows babies to get away from adults, mainly to feed, but if you take that idea and add it to the idea of pig rails which are designed to help animals not get laid on or at least have somewhere to go if mom does lay down. Google both terms and it will give you a good understanding. Maybe a basket inside the tank with large enough holes for babies but not for adults to get in would help.

would putting them in a tank with a larger footprint allow the male more room to maneuver the female?
It seems obvious that they would be well served to have a courtship and perhaps birthing pool with enough size to permit the male to manipulate the female enough to have a successful breeding. If you can keep the transfers from being traumatic, it appears you could improve birthing and mating circumstances significantly.
What is the mix of rays that's creates the swc hybrid?
