  • G'day Bodgies and Widgies, today I'll take you through everything you need to know in order to care for freshwater stingrays in the home aquarium. These are such an awesome, interesting and oddball pet that always blows people away when they see them. The benefit is, they are surprisingly easy to care for as long as all their conditions are met and ill let you know exactly what those are.
I also ended up getting some of my dream freshwater rays which I'll show you along with an update of my existing stingrays Pancake and Maple!

    Actually cool fact!
Freshwater stingrays excrete pure ammonia not Urea!
Marine fish excrete Ammonia because of the high salt content and since freshwater stingrays are actually very recent evolution their urinary system functions like a marine fish!
So thats why the filter system is so important as they, like a marine fish put out raw ammonia constantly.
Check out some of the scientific research into their lineage and unique adaptations (Like the fact they are one of the only group of rays to CHEW?!)
Anyway! Flapjack (My Ray) says hi to yours!

Omg PURE AMMONIA! Yeah so that further confirms that heavy duty filtration is a must, probably more important than overall tank size. It's crazy how close they are to saltwater fish, i've been reading a lot more about these fish anatomically and its just so fascinating.

@@BodgieFromStraya crazy hey! Agree with the super effective filtration. Size is super important for the animal but the processing waste is paramount.
My curiosity peaked when I read an article on how they were closed in and became freshwater with the forming of the isthmus of Panama.
      Crazy cool stuff. Great fish.

Great comprehensive guide there Bodgie. I reckon watching this makes me fully qualified to keep these beautiful animals, although I couldn't imagine myself explaining to the emergency department nurse how I came to be stung by my pet fish.

Great video! I have a 48x48x30(300 gallon) tank with rainbow fish. Hoping to find a Mini Marble Motoro Stingray that stay under 13" one day. Just hoping my tank would be large enough for it long term

Oh that is awesome! based on the dimensions I'd say it would be okay long term actually.
That tank would look crazy though!
