Best tip I have for new players don't compare your progress to anyone else (especially streamers) just play the game at your own pace & find what you enjoy about POE 2
Sound advice
When in doubt, reread this^^ tip :)
Thank you for this!
This is what I came to say
This and "If your league start doesn't work at first, wait for Ghazzy to make an easy leveling guide".... in about 6 weeks or so after he's had fun following the abovementioned advice.
Best tips for stress free league start: Don't take the launch day off from work as the servers are likely on fire, and if you want to go full degen mode on grinding, do meal prepping instead of just going for junk food!
Meal prepping early is actually something I never would have thought about for a gaming marathon, but makes total sense. Faster, cheaper, and most likely healthier for you.
Been doing this for years, and it helps massively.
And DRINK WATER. Or at least something that's mostly water, not soda or energy drinks. Hydration!
Haha good tip! Will be frustrating AF tho😂
thats such a good advice because if all those people go to work, the servers wont be overloaded and i can play
I have about 6k hours in poe1 and the best tip imo, because its annoying as fxxx if people dont know it, if you want to trade there are 3 simple rules.
1. buyer goes into sellers place. if you want to buy something from me, i'm fine leaving a map for it, but i wont travel around and i'm not gonna wait for 15 minutes till you sorted out your currency. and if you want a change, ask for it beforhand, most people will do
2. buyer waits till seller opens the trade. seller will hurry anyway most times, but having to fish out the item and popping out trade windows dont help, its annoying.
3. no matter if buyer or seller, always, ALWAYS check if you get the correct thing you want. most of the people are nice guys, but dont let you scam by somebody
a "t4t" or "thank you" doesnt hurt btw :)
happy trading :)

My biggest tip for new players is knowing there is both character progression and player progression in PoE. Your character will grow in power, but you as a player will also grow in knowledge. It took me multiple leagues to beat the campaign, many more leagues to finish my atlas, and countless more to beat all the bosses. The game is a journey, enjoy it and progress and learn at your pace. Welcome to PoE!
Everyone talking abt league but not explaining what it is
A league is just another word for a season or a cycle. It's what adds flavor to the base game.
People always talk about the campaign. I've never gotten beyond 5 hours before starting a new character xD.
@@Kenwe whats a ‘league’ ??
@@terrodar19 It's basically a season. In PoE, every 3-5 months there's a new league, with a new league mechanic that you'll encounter while playing. Every league, everyone starts from the beginning again.
Best advice is this....don't try to learn everything all at once. All these systems are extremely deep and nuanced. Trying to figure everything out at once will cause your head to explode.
I have my Top 5 tips which would've helped me a lot when I started (no particular order)
#1: This game has a great community and usually people are very nice and helpful so don't be afraid to ask. Tip #1,5 join the Discord of your favorite Content Creator for those questions ... even though I just said it's a nice community I still would not recommend global chat (at least not Global 1 which is your default global chat channel)
#2: Don't play a built because it "can do everything" and in general be very mindful of clickbait (especially now in EA and later at league starts). What should always be the number 1 priority for your built: Is it fun to play. Righteous fire is a good example, the skill is not extremely powerful (it can be pushed with a lot of investment but it's not ideal - especially for bosses) but it is very much enjoyed by many - because it's a very relaxed playstyle (provided that's a playstyle you enjoy).
#3: As you step into trading, be aware that over the years a certain "etiquette" has been established. If you are buyer, you're expected to teleport into the hideout of the other player. While this is a simple rule to follow, keep in mind that sometimes, people are in a town and expect you to come there. But in essence, you go to them - it's not a delivery service. Also, bring the exact amount of currency with you, you don't want to keep them from playing longer than needed, don't grab the currency from the stash when they're already waiting. After the exchange has concluded find the time to say "ty" or "t4t".
#4: There is no shame in "going" back ... if the map you're running takes too much time, you're not efficient - your gear is not what it should be, go back, farm slightly lower tiers (but more efficiently) until you're ready. I don't know how big maps are in PoE2 compared to PoE1 but in PoE1 metrics, it makes a big difference if you spent 10 minutes in a map or 3 ...
#5: Keep one thing in mind - especially in the beginning of EA (maybe that changes in the future) but the Ascendancy is both, a very important and a very final decision. Make very sure, that what you pick is really what you want - if you're unsure, let people in Discord (#1) what playstyle you were looking forward to and hopefully you'll get some tips.
Bonus Tip: Do not give up on the game because you're "overwhelmed" ... I gave up twice before I finally fell in love with PoE1 and I'm so happy I did. This game is going to brutal at times and also in some aspects a little complex. But if you push through, stick with it, really give it a chance, I'm very much convinced you'll fall in love and before long, you'll sink in thousands of hours.
Edit: OMG, I should've read the other comments (so I guess it doesn't matter that I forgot but yes - definitely (imo) the most important tip: play at your own pace and don't compare your progress/gear etc. with that of streamers) ... unless you enjoy being frustrated.
Good list. Similar to what I have experienced in a couple other games. I won't lie, I'm placing too much stress on the ascendency choice already. I can already see that some of them will likely be much stronger later on with gear and passives. But am afraid of that slog until I get there when the other choice seems straight forward, strong, all around choice producing less stress. I plan to take a real look at what I'm actually using and how I'm playing because I don't have the degenerate playtime I once did.
i mostly agree of what you said but I'm not sure on what you meant by playing "efficiently". i hate this word when it comes to mmos as it does suck the enjoyment as it makes you feel fomo and you're lagging behind, i know this is EA but is there a reason why we need to rush to endgame, will there be raids?
@@dafootah35 efficiently probably means using like 50 guides and going meta builds when no one knows whats good or not, also as far as I know there isn't raids in poe 1 so there won't be in poe 2. The issue with new games is that people just like to blast them when they come out, then theyre like oh I've finished all the content in 2 weeks when they havent slept that entire time. But please meal prep and have enough sleep if you intend on blasting poe 2. I'm a casual player so I won't be blasting the game at all. ALSO, please don't take time off for the start of poe 2 itll most likely be laggy from the large influx of players and there other unexpected things that could happen
@@dafootah35 No, as I explained (or I thought I did) ... For example: If you need 9 minutes for a more difficult map (which arguably has more rewarding drops) but you only need 3 minutes for an easier map (with slightly less rewarding loot) it still might be better to do 3 runs of the easier map in the same amount of time as doing one run of the more difficult map... i.e. don't push into more and more difficult maps hoping to get better loot - especially in PoE2 were dying is more punishing as in PoE1 - even in SC. Hence the phrasing of my 4th point: "There is no shame in going back" - meaning, running lower tier maps even though you have access to higher tier ones.
If you purchase store currency, save it/use it for the character stash tabs you'll need.
Also wait for a stash tab sale, typically one weekend a month if i recall they go on sale.
I plan to check every single map side quest and chase bosses for gear and levels. Being over leveled and properly geared is such a huge difference compared to being below level with trash items. I'm going to just take my time, listen to all the dialogue and get lost in the world. Ctrl Clicking on the zone entrances will let you make a new instance so you can farm some areas for extra loot. I wanna find some of those dead ends Jonathan was talking about with rare chests lol.
I've been a POE player for 7 years now, and these tips are fantastic. My advice is: don't hesitate to reach out for help. This community is filled with amazing players who are more than happy to assist those in need. It's the complete opposite of communities like LoL, Modern Warfare, and others!
Oufff , there's lots of elitism and toxicity in the PoE community, unfortunately.
POE sucks ass
Lmao! I play PoE as well. It’s true that PoE community is better than LoL but it’s not really great if im being honest, specially for new players. It’s not terrible but far from being supportive or helpful. Unfortunately.
@@wyld3137 Completely agree
any place u guys recommend for me to go if i need help? like a discord or something
A tip i have is read the tags on skills and items prefixes and suffixes. Understanding what is an attack, AOE, melee, spell, cold... will make much difference understanding how to build your offense and making combo with others skills and maybe crafting.
Have a backup plan for your build. If something isn't working switch to another skill, don't just keep pushing a skill which doesn't feel good.
Problem for me is i’ll end up hitting a ‘damage wall’ were my char probably wont be dealing enough damage and wont know what stat to stack next because there’s so many
@@terrodar19 honestly same here, I'll most likely be going a full minion build because owning an elite enemy to fight for you sounds hilarious
@@MoistYoghurt Honestly I just want to specter the volatile boars in the flaming act 1 village and have them run at enemies and explode before respawning lol.
I think this is good advice for poe, but not as much for poe2. Poe2 gameplay isn't going to be centered around one skill like poe. The aim is for you to combine numerous skills for high synergy combos.
congrats on getting to 100k! tips for newer players: learn things one step at a time and crafting is a really helpful mechanic try to learn it
dont sweat to much about the class choice. if something looks cool to you, roll with it.
Going hard on warrior until druid drops then it's all shape shifting from there baby!!!!
I legit want to play every class (except ranger). While I'm going sorceress for first run, I'm debating whether to create a bunch at launch to lock in character names.
at first i wanted to try merc then witch but now i think i will go with something that looks easy like Warrior to learn the game mechanics, and Warbringer looks really cool
I wish templar came out because it sounds like a paladin-esc class and I love paladins
Going full avatar Aang Invoker Monk here, can't wait.
You can only finish campaign for the first time one time, dont rush it, take your time, we have at least 6 months to play with, play at your own pace
Been around since beta of Poe 1. The best advice I can give to new players is even though things can be overwhelming just do the best you can to do what is best for you, not everyone has the same line of thinking even when it comes to builds, they are varied and complex. Just have fun and enjoy the content. Last but not least, research is your best friend. Trust me none of us are perfect, but I suggest at the very least look at guides/videos that will be helpful for understanding mechanics and other useful things. But above all have fun!
as someone who played at least 5-10 characters/builds each league to lvl95+, dont be afraid to reroll if you dont like a build or its playstyle. there is no point in hating every step you take in the hopes of it getting good at some point. rather just reroll to a new class/build that you have fun with and you can enjoy the game with
Best tip I have for new players is that take it slow, learn the game and do not think you are missing out if go slowly. Enjoy the world and challenge yourself. If you hit a wall, don't give up.
Have never touched an arpg. I hope this game grabs me the way it's grabbed others
I'm newer as well to the genre. I started with Diablo 4 and it totally hooked me in but got waaay too easy too quick. Was gonna pass on POE until I saw the difference in difficulty, mad excited now.
@SAGEXX309 I've never been a fan of games that I press a button and I win. So the difficulty part is a strong incentive to give it a try
I’d never played until about 2 years ago when I tried Diablo 3 ,then Diablo 4 ,and now I love these type of games,I’m not very good by the way but enjoy playing,I’ve never played Poe ,but can’t wait to play this on the 6th ,come on it’s Christmas ❤
@@hellstocker7707 agreed! And this is coming from a fighter fan(Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear etc). I love strategy, depth, fast paced decision making and challenge, complexity, learning combos, timing etc. I just haven't been able to find that outside of the fighter genre. Games like Souls like games and now POE2 give me hope though.
Welcome friend... rest by the fire and get ready to enjoy the battles ahead!
Best single TIP i can give for making Money on POE is dont be too greedy
You better sell at a 10% lower price than the market but you will sell instantly
Dont wait 1 week just to win a bonus 5 chaos
Less time spent trading means more time spent farming
@@Stavroization yes sorry if i've said it wrongly x)
@@mickaelferrer9654 nope just agreeing
I’m a new player, and I’m ready to learn and master this game, including building characters on my own without guides. In the past, I’ve mainly played bullet hell games, roguelikes, and Souls-like games. I’m very confident with WASD movement, precise dodging, and running to safe spots. 😂
My tip as a 0-playtime Path of Exile veteran: 😂 Enjoy the journey, take it slow, and I think reading is very important for new players.
Thank you for this video! I'm coming back and giving it another try. I played POE at the very beginning and was overwhelmed. I'm hoping with the community and videos like this that I'll be able to figure it out.
Note on transmutation orbs @ 3:14 they will always give only 1 modifier, orbs or augmentation are REQUIRED to craft a white item to a blue 2-modifier item. Regal orbs also add 1 new modifier when converting to a rare item. Items can not go back in rarity due to the absence of the scouring orb
Subbed! Brand new to PoE here, minimal experience in all ARPGs to be honest played a bit of diablo 3 on console before my PC days, played D4 campaign then put it down and also played a bit of inquisitor: martyr as huge 40k fan. - I'm beyond hyped to get into this game and advice videos like this are exactly the kind of things I need to see.
Congrats on 100K subs, man!!
Don't be afraid to fail. You will die and some aspects might be very challenging but it is not impossible. Work at your own pace and persevere through the challenges you face
The best tip I have is to start as a spell character. Spells gain power along with your level, while classes that require weapons are normally harder to play.
I was very curious about the first game but never played it. Watching your videos recently encouraged me to buy it. I bought the early access version as someone who was disappointed with Diablo IV and wanted to quit WoW. I am grateful to you for giving such good information to me and people like me
Subbed because of the fuck up at the end. Hilarious. Good stuff, can’t wait for PoE2, my first poe game
Just play whatever you like to. Don't look to all 24/7 players. Just have fun, play at your own speed and makes mistakes. Try out all things you like! Just enjoy the game!
New to the game, super excited. I've been playing PoE 1 to just pass the time. Trying to do this Holy Relic, sword and board templar, my build is ass, but I'm learning alot of just how to scale what I'm doing and I feel like I'm learning something new every 20 minuets. It's a cool feeling.
Best tip I was given from a friend who I think was nr 1 necro once "Don't try to understand it all."
Especially regarding endgame mechanics, just try them out, see what feels cool, then try to understand that one at a deeper level.
I'd say the same for crafting. However, the changes and the "fresh" start probably allow for extensive testing and easier learning than PoE1 crafting.
My best tip for new players is keep an eye on your elemental resistances in your character sheet. Make sure to prioritize them having low or negative resistances will make game much harder. They cap at 75% in poe1 and you wanna be at least 50% as soon as possible throughout the campaign.
Thank you Ghazzy this was very helpfull for me starting for the first time with POE2.
My best tip for PoE is to experiment and stack "layers".
Defense and offense both have different "layers" or "buckets" for their benefits, the more you stack that isn't additive, the better.
You won't know what these buckets are at first, but things like stacking block chance with your armor/evasion in PoE 1, or taking nodes or items with "more" affixes goes a long way, and you'll learn other things like this over time, just keep an eye out. Have fun, and take your time getting better and learning.
It still seems a little too complicated for new players like myself
@@terrodar19 Don't worry about that too much man, get in there, and smash monsters dead, that's like 90% of the game. Running around and smashing monsters. Basically, in laymans terms and casual talking terms, take many types of defense's not just one. For example, build life, armor, and block chance, don't just focus on one type of defense, thats it. Don't rely on just one form of defense is the main takeaway.
@@terrodar19 Don't worry, it's just the kind of thing to learn over time.
Just play the game and have fun and learn as you go.
Try to learn as much on your own as you can. That way, when and if you use a build guide, you will understand what it is trying to do at a core level and you are not just painting by numbers.
Thanks for the video, excited to see all the minion builds in the future. And congrats on the 100K!
Don't limit yourself at the start of the game. Roll with what drops. If you get a badass shield, but want to dual wield axes, don't ignore the rare shield for your white axes. Build up your power so that it's easier to make your dream build a reality.
Very true. Upgrades are upgrades until you've got the leeway to be picky, especially with armor.
Unfortunately dual wielding axes is a ways off. I want to play dual swords as well, but the related classes probably won't be in for several months.
Noob here: fantastic idea to crowdsource tips from above. Subbed.
I'm so pumped for POE2. I never played poe1 but this looks amazing! Thanks for the tips!
My biggest tip, without doubt, it to not be afraid to spend your game-time out of game. Spending my time in learning about how all the mechanics work in depth has allowed me to have the most fun possible by making really weird home grown builds work
my tip is: don't feel bad for taking to much time in each zone. its a game, just have fun. but remember that you don't need to stay at the same place for ages if it is too hard. skipping somethig to get stronger and going back 5 min later is also really strong. get your quest rewards first and come back later if you are strugling
My tip as a 3 league player (i know god-exiles it is not much) , never hesitate to get the upgrade you can actually afford, it will make your currency tab bigger and bigger with each relatively-small upgrade, and will make you enjoy your build/game more and more, don't be obsessed about getting the BIG GIGACHAD UPGRADE, you will eventually get it.
Best Advice for PoE 1 and by extension, take a minute read the abilities, there's a big difference between 10% spell damage, and +2 to 6 (elemental) damage. One will boost spells and the other adds the effect to weapon hits.
So does that mean every one of these 'flat dmg' modifiers are actually adding to weapon dmg? have never played PoE, so just clarifying.
@@gasman555 If a modifier doesn't have "to spells" it only applies to strikes and slams for melee as well as shots for ranged weapons. In PoE1 skills have 2 multipliers: one for base damage and separate one for those "added" bonuses up to 500+%, so yeah, reading is helpful.
In PoE2 those nuances probably have tooltips in-game.
Being completely new to POE, I've been thinking hard about what I want my Mercenary to be like. But ultimately, I've realized that I'm not really going to know until I start playing. I could have in my head some great idea for a BIG BOOM style of play, and then 3 hours in pick up a Quarterstaff and go "Wait, lets do this instead"
The best advice I would give is to really make an effort to learn. I played poe1 for 10 years and never made much currency, but then I made an effort to learn instead of just following a currency guide and I've had so much more fun and currency since.
Nice video and yay, congrats on the 100k!
Tip: Do not be scared to overlevel if you feel squishy. Even 2-3 levels above area level can make a huge difference.
best tip i can think of: don't be afraid to experiment for yourself and the campaign is not your enemy, use it as a gauge of how you are doing it should be challenging but not feel impossible. (this might not work for niche builds that require level specific items and progress but as a new player you wouldn't want to dabble in those ^^")
Stats on items to chase, when you don't know what you want EXACTLY, but wanna upgrade in early game:
Weapons:
ADDED damage. "Added" damage is always better then "increased" in the begining. Further you will need both of that.
Damage that MATCH your skill tags. Every skill has tags, like "Attack", "Physical", "AoE" etc. That's how you understand "will it buff me or not?"
Plus level to ALL *tag* skill gems. For example, if your skill has physical tag and your weapon has "+1 to all physical skill gems" your skill will be buffed. If you you have multiple of them, ALL of them will be buffed
Crit, attack/cast speed doesn't matter in the beggining at all, but if you have them as bonus to plus damage, then you have better item C:
Boots:
Movement speed. Faster you go - easier the fights will be for you. Ezier to dodge, ezier to clear locations
Charms:
Most crucial 3 are anti-stun, anti-bleed and anti-freeze. First two are crucial because it's hard to tell sometimes that it was the thing killed you. Freeze you can see easily, but it's long enough and annoying.
Every other item:
- Life. More life you have - less random hits from npcs you care about
- Resistances. For first time collecting them your idea is: bigger number is better! After that you see how much exactly do you have trying to "cap" them, info about it in your character screen.
Stats like rarity, stun *something*, armor, evasion, even energy shield, light radius etc. are not worth because it's hard to stack them enough.
Thanks for the great content
Nice one ghazzy. I am waiting for tab buying guide when you are ready!
Grats on 100k Ghazzy!!
Tip: Read all tooltips twice and pay attention to every word. It's crucial you understand what your skills are doing, how supports are working and the effect of tree node choices. Making assumptions that turn out to be false can totally undercut your build and leave you confused. Spells are not attacks, not all damage "hits", etc
Go into it with an open mind. Focus on what feel good to play, don't be afraid to experiment. Try to focus less on what the streamers are doing, even ignore them completely. What they have to say won't matter to most of us/the casual base. Fun > efficiency or meta chasing.
I think your channel is going to explode dude. The same way the diablo boys got with D4.
Tip#1 If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a boss slam
Tip#2 Dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge!
Tip#3 Just have fun! don't feel pressured to make it to maps right away unless racing is your thing.
My tip: PATIENCE. PoE is a lot to take in. You really have a large learning curve. Your 1st, and probably 2nd, or 3rd characters are gonna be garbage. But, taking the time to learn the game will be worth it. I started PoE1 3 different times, before I just clenched my teeth, and suffered through the learning stages. It was totally worth it. 6+years of PoE1 playing later, I get to start over again with PoE2, and I can't wait.
Dont follow a guide for your first character.
Make your own thing, try stuff out and see how far you can take your own thing! ^^
Thats what hooked me on PoE 1 even tho i eventually followed a guide, my first character was still super fun to experiment and test stuff with
Best tip i can think of for PoE2. Enjoy your time with the game. Switch skills and try them out, you never know what might turn out to be really fun to play around. If PoE1 is anything to go by, you can find a way to make almost anything functional, it just may not be able to clear all the content in the game.
Thanks, great video! Quick item question: In POE when you get a good item like at 4:12 and it's level 3 - can you upgrade it and keep it all play through or once you hit high levels you HAVE to dump it - ie. can you force it to scale with you?
Choose a class you like, and stick to its core gameplay, avoid trying to throw fireball as a warrior, or melee dual wield as a sorceress on your first playthrough. You will have a lot of time to explore "cross class" fantastic gameplay later down the road .
Congrats on the 100 k
1. Comparing your own progress/wealth/experience to other content creators (especially the ones that are experiences and can nolife PoE) is single best way.. to kill any fun you have while playing. Take your time, enjoy the game at your own pace and find what you personally consider to be fun.
Play with friends, even if its just on discord plsying solo, together. Sharing info and experiences along the way is so fun when a game first launches
1. Pick the squishiest, most glass cannon, hardest to play class with 15 buttons to be pressed every second.
2. Click no defense nodes. Just don't get hit.
3. Compare yourself to 12k hour streamers at all times.
Im sure i read the beggining of the dodge roll gives you s va non AOE attacks as there is a node that gets rid of this but gives you 30% flat damage resist
Right, the quicker first half of the dodge roll has 100% evasion, similar to Raise Shield having 100% block from the front. But both evasion and block don't defend against ground targeted aoes or slam type attacks by default.
tip for new players: when selling gear, better sell fast for cheaper price and progress fast than sit on your items and let them fill your tabs. Everyone else is trying to progress too and they'll soon need better items than what you have for sale which devalues your items even more.
100K!!! Congrats Ghazz!!!
The best tip for new players is to avoid watching guides or searching for the “best class” right away. Doing so can ruin the immersion. For your first playthrough, just enjoy the game and play however you like. Once you reach the endgame, you can start looking at guides to plan your next steps.
When creating your second character, following a guide can help you avoid some of the mistakes you made in your first playthrough. The worst feeling is playing the game with the same build and doing the same things as everyone else in the first walkthrough.
Coming from someone who only started poe 1 this year take your time and don't rush to try learn everything
9:08 best part!
Best tip for people who are new to PoE: Don't listen to any youtuber or streamer. Just play the game how you want to play it
Best tip... I dunno if trade system is gonna be the same but if so...ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK
100k, congrats dude!
4k hours here, my tip is you don't absolutely need every single piece of gear that drops in the endgame. Make sure to learn what items are good for your builds and what items are upgrades that you'll need to take. Currency drops are really good, and from what we've seen charms and runes are pog. Good luck exiles
Thats the thing (as a new player) there are so many stats we dont even know which ones to stack at a proper ratio to know if one item is better than another
@terrodar19 it is much more simplified in poe2. Mainly on early Armour gear your looking for resistances and life. The higher you are to your resistance caps the better.
You also have Armour and evasion, and energy shield. Depending on your character you can choose which one to be your primary. On weapons just stats that work with your skills. Cold skills need cold damage, etc..
My tip for new players : Take your time, don't try to rush as fast as the racer/streamer you may watch. Pace your way slowly but surely.
Best tip?
Have fun with your class/build that you do. Make it something that you really enjoy and that's all that really matters. If you are having fun then you are winning. Play around and try new things.. it's going to be sick when you figure out a godly build that no one else knows about.
My tip - do not be intimidated by the passive tree. I know this is as useless as telling someone who deals with mental health issues to just not let them bother you, so I'll provide some insight as to why and how you should avoid being intimidated.
- You truly don't need to learn the whole tree at once. But beyond that, you don't need to learn the whole tree *at all*. It's entirely searchable. Respeccing looks to be cheap and readily available. Without going into how PoE 1 works too much, they have also taken great strides in making it significantly more difficult to make a truly bad tree. Most things are keyworded in the game, and you can just match keywords on the tree to what you are using. The easiest example I can think of is, say you're laying a Sorceress. And you like lightning and fire spells. You think they're cool. You also really like Energy Shield equipment. Easy! When you have points to spend, just use the search bar on the passive tree for words like "fire" "lightning" "spell" "energy shield", or whatever else you want to boost. Then just allocate points there.
- The passive tree is designed in a way that is meant to be understandable and navigable. This extends to the whole game. One of the strongest features of both games is that GGG is very good at describing things succinctly, accurately, and most importantly, consistently. Some games will often feature very loosey-goosey or vague terminology. You can expect item and passive descriptions and tooltips in this game to be very precise and accurate. For example, there's a difference between an "increased" amount of something and "more" of something. And if you're curious about what things mean, you can mouse over anything that's underlined in the UI and it will give you a full tooltip breakdown to help define what that mechanic covers. More to the point, you can make all sorts of crazy builds in this game, but there are definitely some very straightforward paths you can follow until you learn more about the game. It's very clear from the marketing that the Monk is "meant" to use quarterstaves. So you can bet that in the Monk's area of the passive tree, you're going to find tons of nodes related to that weapon, and the kinds of damage Monks are likely to do, and so on. Let the game guide you.
- You don't need to know exactly what you're doing in order to have fun. This applies to the passive tree, of course, but broadly speaking the only real permanent choice you have to make is your base character class and your ascendency. You can happily just play along, picking up items that *look* like they'll be good for you, and putting points into things that *look* like they work with your character, and the odds are that they will and you'll do just fine. I know this is more or less just restating "don't be intimidated" but it bears repeating. You will be fine. And the community in this game is more than happy to help new players.
I like that the video is under 10 minutes. Some PoE2 videos are like 40 mins long and that's kind of overwhelming.
my best tip: this game is HARD. It's not for everyone. But if you will survive the early failure, you will sink forever into this game and will discover more and more fun in it!
tip for new players: don't obsess over what's strong and what's not. GGG said very explicitly they'll nerf any overpowered build right away and probably nerf builds that are just "strong" too, so if you see something crazy on a reddit clip, don't just make a new character to try it. Consider that it might be gone by the time you do.
Make sure to not craft on the equipment you are currently wearing if you're not certain that it will be an improvement.
Whilst bricking (Recrafting a weapon to just become outright bad) your equipment is salvageable. The road back might become more arduous than you were expecting, taking some of the fun out of the game.
GGG has proven that they hear and listen. If you're going to give the devs feed back make it constructive, detailed and be professional and be civil with it.(this should be the standard in any interaction in life tbh). This game looks familiar but it's going to play very different than what we are used to. It's the chance to be in ground level on a game that's going to be around for years, just enjoy it.
Only tip i have to any new players is enjoy the ride and don't try to force yourself to play some skill/class that doesn't make you enjoy your time and most important is don't worry about zooming and enjoy your first playthrough.❤
Tip: during campaign you dont have to stick to your endgame build. Try any skill that could be helpful
best tip i can give to new players :
1- subscribe to GhazzyTV, seriously, great guides/explanations
2- you do NOT have to play a "meta" build to have fun in the game, playfeel is much more important, ofc try to make it a good build but you really don't have to play specific "meta" or "op" builds to have fun
Congratulation for the 100k now :)
I’m super excited to play. Never liked ARPGs as D4 was my only experience, but this seems really fleshed out.
Looking forward to jumping into POE 2. Ive wanted to play an ARPG for a long time but haven't liked the style of diablo. This game looks fantastic.
As some others mentioned, just pick a class that looks fun to you. And remember this early access is still a beta, not early access into the full release immediately. Some things will be overtuned, some undertuned. Some will be completely broken in a good or bad way. Adjustments will be happening frequently, if I had to guess. Any class will be able to clear any content, the important bit is to have fun with it. Stay sane exiles, not much longer to go!
Make sure your first experience is unique in a way, don't mindlessly follow someone's guide. Experiment with stuff and enjoy the sheer gameplay. If your character fails you can always make another one.
If you're new to the game/genre, always keep moving, and don't facetank damage
The best tip for me would be: remember, that this is just a game. Integrate it into your life in a convenient way - do not build your life around it.
Top Tips for new players:
1. Stay off reddit for the first couple of days.
2. Know that the servers will likely be on fire at the start.
3. Have fun and explore the game, everyone is a new player now.
Best tip: don’t follow a bunch of random tips lol. Just play the game and have fun for as long as you can. You’ll eventually get to where you’re looking up builds or things but don’t do that straight away. You’ll never get another chance to go in blind
The best tip I can give new and returning exiles who want to stay sane is to avoid Reddit like the plague. Also, try out every class and see what you like. Play around with different skills and try to make your own combos. Treat early access as a way to experiment and have fun and don't worry about min-maxing your build or anything like that (the game will change a dozen times before 1.0 anyway).
Here's another important tip, don't get attached to your character(s). They will NOT be moved to Standard upon live release and will be marked as Early Access. You can still play your EA characters/items/spells but it will not be allowed to interact with anything live. There will be no updates or leagues for EA after live is released.
Most important thing is, enjoy the journey, and don't focus only to end.
Never stop moving!!!!!!
Don't move back to your recent location(s). Something has already targeted that location.
Started in Warband league! Been over 9 years deep, playing every single league for months at a time. The simple tip is to stay off the reddit and other social media during the first week or 2. It gets very gate keepy and complainy about things that GGG are taking time to balance and change. Obviously if it's something that broken or inhibiting your gameplay, go to the forums, but most of time, the reddit, for example, only has complaints that detract from the actual experience that you may be having. It's okay some of the time though.
