For others preparing to do their clutches on R18 8th gen (Si or non si) you don't need to pull the big 32mm axle nuts. None of the 2 CV axles need to separate from the wheel hubs. Just the intermediate as the uploader stated. Once you're ready just pop the inboard side of the CV axles from the differential/tranny. Have a drip pan to catch the fluid that seeps from the shaft seals. Now... Because the lower control arms, stab bar and stab links drop with the sub frame as one assembly, the wheel assembly can swing out freely, giving the clearance to pop the CVs from the transmissions differential side. Use bungees or wire to support the CV shafts horizontally. They just chill there still in the wheel hubs.
Dropping the tranny out of my 07 Civic EX coupe, this is not fun. Got the transmission tower mount out by the ecu, everything on top of the transmission (air intake box, shifter cables, wiring harness, master cylinder) some differences between the Si set up but watching to see how you lowered the transmission. No cherry picker for me so I’m trying to just lower the driver side of the sub frame to get the transmission out
Wow, so much more work than on a RWD car, like a BRZ. It requires dropping exhaust components, but very little in the engine compartment needed messing with.
I did this without a cherry picker and with a transmission jack from harbor freight and a nice sized jack and stands and a dolly from harbor freight to roll the subframe out once I disconnected it.
So only the bottom starter bolt need a to be removed? Also. Top of your head. Can you tell me or give me link to where all the bolts are located? I found 2 at the bottom, 1 at back, 1 in front, 2 at top, 2 dust shield, lower starter bolt?
great video. going to be tackling this Wednesday, have alot of experience pulling b series transmissions. hope that helps with this one. great detail. but do you happen to have a link to the torque specs for reinstallation? clutch as well?
I know it has electrical steering, did you watch the whole video though?? I dont have to remove that bolt because the steering rack never drops at all. I only remove the bolts that hold it to the subframe, the steering rack stays suspended with straps. It is never removed.
this was your first time? its nice I like how you held up the rack with the straps though. I didn't have enough room or time. but hey learn something new. I cant believe that Honda made it like this the older cars were much simpler. and didn't have half all that mess.
Hey Naus... Been on the forums checking out what mtf is best. And the concensus seems to be Redline Mtf 75w-80 GL-4 has the smoothest and longest lasting between initiation of grinding...if any grinding at all Thoughts? Thx!
so are you going to put the transmission in yourself with the cherry picker or the transmission jack? I found the transmission jack to be good too but I bet a cherry picker would be okay with holding the weight up.
check out some of my other videos man, this is a few months old, I've had two transmissions in and out of the car since this video, car has been up and running for a couple months now
Just removed mine to replace my clutch. Question, if my car is on, i was locked out of all my gears. Is this the clutch or tranny? Think I'm going to rebuild my tranny just to be safe.
+NAUS when my car is on*. After taking my clutch out, I noticed that the clutch is worn out. A piece of metal broke off of my clutch disc. Also, my throw out barring was all caked in dried up grease. And my Tranny shifts fine, it's just the third gear is notchy here and there. A few people told me its my clutch, but just to be safe, I'm going to get my transmission rebuilt or maybe buy a reman. Comes down to price.
I did my clutch in my car and I used this "oem" kit from exedy now my pedal is soft and my clutch makes a sound only when is cold this is the kit khc10 any suggestions?
How is the resurfaced flywheel? Im contemplating wether to just buy a new one or resurfacing the stock one. Ive heard a lot of mixed reviews. Whats your experience?
I’m about to do this job tomorrow and you’re gonna walk me step-by-step through it with this video thank you🙏
How long did it take
Did you get it done any tips

Finally I find a good detailed video showing how to do the fg2 transmission drop 🙏🙏🙏🙏
By far the best dyi I’ve watched
This video saved me alot of money tryna remove my trans. Thankyou!!
wow, i can see why any work concerning the transmission is so expensive when done by a shop.
Its not bad just time consuming
I work at a Toyota and I had my transmission on the ground in 2 hours...it’s not that bad...once you drop the subframe it’s a cake walk
Very in depth. I'm glad I found this vid
Casually; supercharge set up 😈👍🏼 Honda For Life
Idk what to do, my CSX Type S grinded high RPM, now second gear grinds every so often, fuck sakes. The CMC is also now adjusted.
I prefer the 8th gen and people I talk to who swapped for the 9th say the 9th dosnt feel as quite the enthusiast car the 8th gen is
Gonna be attempting this over the next few weeks. Wish me luck
Amazing video brother this is going to be my first time thanks man really good detailing
naus a milwaulkee electrical ratchet wrench helps out and cuts down the wrench time significantly
I will be attempting this job soon, and this will help greatly. Thanks.
Awesome video the first of its kind from what ive seen out there. Thanks will come in handy to me someday

Thanks for posting this man!! from one supercharged honda si brother to another lol!
Doing a fb6 tomorrow , thanks for the guide
Will this uninstall be similar to a 2015 chassis k24? FB6
Probably not too much different
Yes! Someone else from NY !! You wanna do another one lol
Nope! Lol, but this video should make it easy to do in your own
Wow, so much more work than on a RWD car, like a BRZ. It requires dropping exhaust components, but very little in the engine compartment needed messing with.
yes its a pain in the ass on these cars!
it will help me out! thank you sr. Awesome job!
Doing work to this car is eassy once you take off all the bs molding and plastice covers that are in the bay
Will be doing this tomorrow
I did this without a cherry picker and with a transmission jack from harbor freight and a nice sized jack and stands and a dolly from harbor freight to roll the subframe out once I disconnected it.
There are many ways it can be done
should of watched this video earlier, such a time consuming to remove the subframe but got it done
Great Vid! Was just wondering why you took the bumper off? Thanks, The Sailor.
Great video.. so much easier to leave rack bolted to frame and remove together.. thank for the help keep up the good work
Torque specs for 8 bolts that mount trans to engine? 6 17mm 2 14mm
Rack and pinion bolts for the hinges and the wiring harness are giving me a hard time
So only the bottom starter bolt need a to be removed?
I do not, the clutch was done last year by honda when my old trans was rebuilt, I'm sure you could find a thread on 8thcivic with the specs though
Is this the car with the defective transmission that has problems with the 3rd gear?
great vid thanks
I'm on my 3rd clutch, 2 exedy stage 2's and I tried southbend.... stage three... running KWsc.... I am tired of changing clutches
Stop beating on your car and it will last lmao
Great video, what motor mounts are those?
Boomba racing , not sure if they still make them or not
The car has electrical steering and you have to remove the bolt from the steering column to get everything off
I know it has electrical steering, did you watch the whole video though?? I dont have to remove that bolt because the steering rack never drops at all. I only remove the bolts that hold it to the subframe, the steering rack stays suspended with straps. It is never removed.

h22sparkle
Yes this was my first time removing the transmission myself, Ive done it two times now, its not too bad once you get the hang of it
Why not put the jack stands on the pinch welds along the rocker panels? Just curious, is there a benefit to putting them where you did?
I like putting them on the frame rails, they are much stronger than the pinch welds on the body panels
How long did this process take?
Great work! Do you do work on the side for $$$?
I have for some friends, nothing major though
Do you need to remove the front bumper?
what model is your dry filter? looking to replace the one that came with my HR intake

biopqq I ran redline MTL on the original trans and it helped a lot, on my new trans now I am back on Honda MTF
NAUS
Hey thanks a lot Naus!
NAUS
Hey thanks a lot Naus!
Never stated what to do with the clutch slave that is attached to the trans.
I’m sorry , it’s two bolts comes right off
so are you going to put the transmission in yourself with the cherry picker or the transmission jack? I found the transmission jack to be good too but I bet a cherry picker would be okay with holding the weight up.
check out some of my other videos man, this is a few months old, I've had two transmissions in and out of the car since this video, car has been up and running for a couple months now
You broke your trans? You hot roding it
Top bult o the starter..???
Just removed mine to replace my clutch. Question, if my car is on, i was locked out of all my gears. Is this the clutch or tranny? Think I'm going to rebuild my tranny just to be safe.
I am confused with your question.., but if your locked out of gears that's your trans not your clutch
+NAUS when my car is on*. After taking my clutch out, I noticed that the clutch is worn out. A piece of metal broke off of my clutch disc. Also, my throw out barring was all caked in dried up grease. +Gerb Productions good luck man , either way it's not cheap, this car has been a headache lately
Ik, the transmission is going to run me like $1500. Thing should run awesome with a knew clutch and rebuilt tranny.
+Gerb Productions I spent $1500 on rebuilding my trans last August and blew it apart this April haha, just dropped $1300 on a used trans
how long did it take you to drop the subframe? I'm doing my clutch on my FA5 this week.
first time i did it i went super slow, but it probably took about 4-5 hours, my second time doing it took about 2.5 hours to get it out from start
Does the car pass smog check
One question whats the best way to change your headgasket. Is the motor gonna have to come completely out the car? Or no
h22sparkle No, you can do the head with the motor on the car. Very easy.
I did my clutch in my car and I used this "oem" kit from exedy now my pedal is soft and my clutch makes a sound only when is cold this is the kit khc10 any suggestions?
gustavo cortes slave xylinder?
gustavo cortes i replaced my slave cyndier when my clutch was soft releasing at floor and it fixed problwm perfect
what was the issue in the first place?
man 150 to 300 dollar part 800 900 bucks for a shopto do. time consuming none fun job :P fuck lol good video helps a lot.
Hey how heavy do you think the subframe is?
how long are your bungee cords??? and you only use 2 to support the steering rack?
They are adjustable dirt bike tie downs from harbor freight, and yes one per side of the rack
Is this a similar procedure to a normal 1.8 8th gen, 5 speed?
Simon Kozy yes
Don't forget to tell them about that one bolt that's on the electrical steering head and if they damage that its going to be costly.
not sure what your talking about, I may have not removed what your talking about because I left the steering rack suspended in the car
Hey NAUS, thanks for posting these videos. I might be doing this in the near future, also from NY. Where abouts are you in NY?
CNY area brotha !
+NAUS if I ever attempt this, I'll be sure to hit you up on the spare gearset if you're interested in selling. Keep up the videos 👍🏻
@@NAUS2K great video and great car selection!! I'm doing the transmission removal on a fa5 now. Thanks for being so detailed and organized!!
supercharged man.. u wanna go for staged 2 exedy
Do you take stater out
Nope
how long in total did this job take you?
Tyler Veltman yeah I'm interested in the length of time this would take.
Its in the video
@@motozixxer245 its literally in the video
Are you close to rochester NY?
I just moved out of CNY
Hobestly after seeing this guy don't even wanna work on my transmission, looks bloody expensive
does this swap applies to 8th gen automatics as well?
Most of the process is similar to get the subframe out, The steering rack in the non Si's are hydraulic though so there may be lines to disconnect
Damm I’ll just rather pull motor from top too much work
Pretty sure you need to remove the motor underneath the car
How is the resurfaced flywheel? Im contemplating wether to just buy a new one or resurfacing the stock one. Ive heard a lot of mixed reviews. Whats your experience?
I had napa do mine, works wonderfully no issues.
