Hi Chad, I drove through Horseshoe Valley Rd. yesterday. Boy! You sure got a whopping of snow over the last few days, as we did on Georgian Bay. You're so good with that big machine! Awesome work!! 💪 Take care eh! 👍
@@paisley293 yeah it’s snowed for 4 days straight, there is so much snow right now it’s almost as high as the farm fencing. I did film an episode of all the beauty though, probably for next week.
NEW SUBSCRIBER Here!! I began watching your videos this morning. You got me when I watched a video this morning that you posted 10 months ago. It's about your Working Barn Cats!! What a HUMANE, WONDERFUL and COMPASSIONATE Man!! I've supported Cat Rescue for over 25 years!! Your Barn Cats are living Dream!! You CARE for them!! If only EVERY Cat had such a GREAT HOME!! Thank you for this!! ❤🐈😺
@Lyndea-t9y me too, that's when I started watching. I have a couple indoor cats and was making a catio. I also take care of some ferals here in Canada. I appreciate the care he take of all his animals.
I guess we might not think about how much it takes to carry thru the production of these vlogs. Love the coming and going views of each scene but that takes a lot of placement of the camera and the talent it takes to get just the right variety of angles! Thanks for being so diligent to make quality presentations of the wonder of Hidden Spring Farm. It is such a great place!🤗 Day hi to the Claw Crew😻
yeah, between the snow clearing and all the work this video took me 7 hours of filming and 4 hours of editing. That's the life of a UA-camr though eh. Appreciate the comment.
It sure is a lot of work for just one of the trees to fell, saw into pieces and get to your wood mill! You are a smart worker to think things through instead of taking risks. The forest looks pretty picturesque in the snow, and your mill house looks as ‘elegant’ as a well dressed mannequin😁
That excavator makes moving this big ol,logs a much easier job!!!! Not to mention two. The little tractor…. I say "little" as it’s about half the size of our 2 out on our wheat and cattle farm… but it gets the job done!!!!
❤❤JUST LOOK AT THOSE BEAUTIFUL, BIG SLIDING DOORS TO THE SAW MILL SHED.....You really amaze me with your positive attitude from Winter projects to upcoming Summer ones! Helps to give me a "Boost" to stay positive & motivated.....THANK YOU! All the snow is so beautiful, magical & quiet. When you finally get your Forest in order & the "Sugar Maples" producing, it will be fun to watch your build of a SUGAR SHACK.... (there was a cute song in the 1960's called by that name-I loved it!). Lots of projects coming up.......excited to watch your progress! GOD BLESS TO ALL @ Hidden Spring Farm.....😊😊❤❤😊😊.
We got 8 inches of the white stuff here at my Indiana home yesterday and overnight. Some were complaining they didn't get any...they can have mine! Hope you get some good logs out of that. It sure is a lot of work, but you're managing that machinery like a pro!
Just imagine how much extra time it takes to setup the camera shot, walk to where your working, do the shots then walk back to the camera. Gotta do that for every shot too 😂 A very nice days of working in the wilderness though.
We had a very hot day here in Penrith yesterday. I got up to 43°C = 109.4°F. It looks very pretty with all that snow in the forest. You did great work. Thank you for sharing. Thoughts and Prayers always. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
Hi Chad. Here in Kingston, we have not had hardly any snow 🌨️. Just enough to cover the grass lol. Wow, you certainly have a lot of snow. If you are going to have maple syrup - sign me up. Thanks so much Chad.
Chad, I would love to see you take maple syrup out of the tree. I have never seen it done. The snow up there is beautiful. Always love your videos. Hugs Olive for me. ❤❤😊
I'm glad to hear that you take care to fell trees that aren't healthy. Just in case you don't know there are at least four species of bird in Ontario that need hollowed out trees to nest, so I hope you are leaving some for them.
Hello ! Very interesting video; now I can see how much more land you own. You really get some good exercise and in that peaceful area .... much better than going to a fitness center !! Happy New Year from IL Chicago burbs 😊
yes thank you, just the forest part we have 15 acres. Lots of trees in other areas too but very much different from around the farm area. I like to keep a variety of all things related to small farm life to keep things interesting.
Pretty please, do another on hatching eggs. Please, show how to find the eggs that are worth incubating and what they must look under a light in time. Thank you !
I was looking at chains for my car. This year, on the other side of Canada ( BC ) we keep getting freezing rain after a snow storm, It's sheer ice all over. Princess aut has some easy enough for me to use, not that I'm not use to them driving a school bus.
Princess auto is good for a lot of things, I checked too for the tractor tire chains but they didn't have anything similar. I'll most likely need to order the exact size from a john deere dealer.
Hey Chad! Always love your videos. They are so relaxing as opposed to my city life. Question…once you cut the tree, do you cover it or is it ok to keep them exposed to the elements? Would that rotting hole continue to further rot if the tree can’t dry out?
No need to cover it, that kind of rot takes years if not decades to occur. The logs sitting for a few months won’t do much. When I first got the mill I started milling logs that I had sitting for over 2 years and the only part getting slightly rotten is the bark.
@@donnanorman340 I do have a longer bar chainsaw but I didn’t really know which tree I was gonna cut and I didn’t wanna go all the way back to get it 😆
Just wondering why the need to fell trees in the Winter, unless to get firewood? I would have thought that would be an activity done in the non-Winter months.
Short answer is you don’t get mud and dirt caked onto the logs when skidding, which dulls the blades and chains. Also there are no leaves or bugs to contend with plus doing this hard labour in the heat is no fun. It’s also safer cause you can actually see through the forest as the trees are falling since there are no leaves.
Reference the tractor...by chance did you have it in 4 wheel drive? I ask. As in mine, I got stuck, and hubby had to help me. He laughed at me when he asked if I was in 4 wheel drive...i didn't know we had it. Our tractor is smaller and older but yours may have it.
I've never cut a tree down so I'm not saying you're doing it wrong, but other videos I have watched where they are felling trees, they cut the wedge and say not to cut past it like you did. I don't know why.
Not exactly sure what you mean but my back cut was fine…a few inches above the wedge cut until the tree starts to fall. I’m guessing you mean the undercut into the tree from the bottom of the wedge cut. I cut in about 5-6 inches cause the tree is very large, I don’t think it’s not allowed it’s just that usually it’s not necessary. Otherwise my bs k cut wound be very deep to get closer to the wedge. You want to have enough wood so when you do the back cut it makes a hinge so you’re directing the tree where to drop. With smaller trees it’s not needed. I’m only a diy’er though so don’t take my word for it
I just love your channel. You are the antidote to this crazy world. Thank you for all you do.
