Lisa, fabulous info. I'd like to say that you are the only person I'm supporting on Patreon. Besides the fact that your art is great, you consistently post to You Tube, and the posts are valuable to me. I look at Patreon as my way of supporting your hard work on my behalf. There is another artist that does wonderful work, but she is very sporadic with posting to You Tube. When she announced her Patreon channel, I was skeptical that she would keep up with her posting goals, so I decided against supporting her. So I'd like to put out there for anyone considering a Patreon channel to be sure they have been posting good quality videos on a consistent basis so that we, the patrons, will be happy to give our money to you every month. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! I agree about the consistency with patreon. I was just talking with another artist about that very thing last week. It makes a huge difference!
Thank you for your advice. I'm always feel less lost and have some sort of direction after hearing your advice. You inspire me to become an artist again.
Lisa, I LOVE you, your tutorials and your wisdom. I have several physical and emotional disabilities which is how and why I began drawing and painting in the first place. Until recently, I didn't have to worry about supporting myself. My husband took care of me, being the breadwinner. However, recently (Christmas morning, 2016) he passed away, suddenly from a heart attack. I am now faced with the challenge of supporting myself , and the only thing I'm able to do on a consistent basis is my art. With God's help, I may make a go of it. Your advice has helped immensely. I love that you don't paint (no pun intended) false hopes of instant success, but provide tried and true principles for building a business. Just want to thank you and encourage you to keep on with your YT channel and amazing artwork. Many Thanks to You.
Really good advice on everything. I'm lucky to be a stay at home mom so I can build while looking after the kids. And I only just started all my accounts beginning of the year and it really is very slow. I intend to start adding more lesson style videos for my botanical art now that I have an easel and tripod. I blame @lachri for starting me down this rocky adventure that I am currently loving.
OMG thank you! I have recently started to work on building a career as an artist and I have been sooooo overwhelmed. I am constantly thinking about how my website should look like, when should I launch a Patreon account, what about prints/social media/UA-cam, etc etc. Your advice has been VERY helpful!
Thank you for making such an informative and straightforward video. I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in art but I was always worried that it wouldn’t go anywhere. So this video is very helpful for artists to know they can get their names out there and actually can make a career out of it. It may take some time to get yourself out there, but it is definitely possible. Once again, thank you for making this video!
Lisa, you are so inspiring. I've watched so many of your UA-cam videos. I always learn something from you. Keep going. And thank you for all your helpful videos x
Great advice, Lisa! I have no idea how you do it. To be willing to share all your secrets to the world so we can rise above to reach our goals and dreams too! You're simply UH-MAY-ZAAANG!!
There is SO MUCH incredible advice in this video. If it wasn't for you I would never have got started. You're a huge inspiration! :) Speaking of websites, I'm currently shifting my main focus from pet portraits over to art tutorials. I still need to do a major website revamp to reflect that. Change is scary! Eeeeeek!
Lisa, thank you for your advice! I've been wondering how to get started in my art career. I'm into illustration-- creating graphic novels, comic books, and coloring books. I'm still working full time and trying to find the time in between to work on my art. You've given me some ideas what to do, and I appreciate it!
Thank you for everything you do... following your advice I have a website started, try to be consistent on FB, put out a consistent amount of artwork, teaching classes locally and UA-cam too. Without your inspiration, I would have given up before I even started... could not express my gratitude enough.
You are so right, teach! I watched this video, started teaching in October and am already in demand! Now I need to find a studio (been teaching at Hobby Lobby) for one-on-one instruction. 😃 I published my web site yesterday and am getting ready to start my UA-cam tutorials. Thank you for this wonderful advice!
Thank you so much for this useful and encouraging video. I'm already sort of unemployed but am doing odd jobs and helping my parents and earning money that way, so now that i have time (and no ride...) i can put your good advice to use and hopefully make a tiny bit more money. It's better then nothing!
Great tips! I agree, the sooner you make a UA-cam channel & start posting on Instagram etc., the better. I'm considering starting Patreon eventually and have the rewards be something that won't take much extra time, like digital coloring pages of my art and digital art prints, but I want to concentrate more on UA-cam, my Etsy shop and building up my email list for now.
Wow what a great video! It's strange how I'm in the exact same situation. I too have recently been made redundant and have dreams of becoming a self employed artist. I think your advice is great, I definitely think getting another job to start with is important, it would be far too stressful to start out without any steady income. I have to say your video's have inspired me so much and hopefully I'll be starting a youtube channel soon too!
great video and great advice!....i learned so much...and i am glad i am at least on step one to my goal of making my artwork relevant...lol...but my little youtube channel is finally starting to grow and i am so excited!...thank u for sharing...blessings
Hi Lisa, great video! I'm so glad I came across you today, the videos of yours that I have watched so far have been extremely helpful, and I'm definitely going to keep watching! Regarding the way you mentioned starting on social media and using that to market yourself, do you have any videos where you elaborate on that further? as I'm not 100% sure how to go about that in the most effective manner, e.g. on facebook and instagram. If not, do you think you could make a video dedicated to this topic? I'd imagine a lot of people might be interested in this. Thanks :)
I am glad that i found you a month ago!You have THE BEST advices, follow you in patron also-you are amezing! You and few ather artist are pushing me to finaly show my skils(after 15 years of thinking)..I never beleaved in my art,i aways was seeing it like hobby..and aways was afraid that if i make it bussines i will hate it because i will have to draw may be in days when i dont want to..My biggest problem is that i dont have specific style,i like to draw with everything(realistic pencil, doodles, cartoons, crayons, dry wall art, pain, etc)and this is making my begining more dificult..I dont have idea how to name my chanel,my new FBpage,tweeter..But your suggestions make just do it!Thank you verry much!
I am an artist just starting out in selling my art. I can turn them out pretty quickly, and I am not super attached to the pieces, but someone suggested I should make prints and keep the originals. Is that wise or should I stick with the originals until I get more of a fan base? I’d prefer to sell the originals because it drives me to make more. Can you give me some input on that?
Hey Lisa, I'm finding myself wanting to explore my artistic side not so much as a career but more of a hobby outlet, anyway my question is where should I get I was thinking of just starting with drawing with graphite pencils and then maybe moving to either colored pencils or acrylics. I think I want to learn to do portraits. I guess I'm asking is there a normal progression of what I should be learning?
Hi. I want to make good prints of my art. I bought a Nikon DSLR 3400 camera ( I think you use a similar one.) Should I also get Adobe photo shop? Is that what you use? What type of paper do you print on? Is it a glossy finish? Thank you, Linda.
Lisa, It looks like a great landscape project behind you. This reminds me so much of the subjects that 'Liam Rainsford' (another UA-cam artist) would chose to paint. I am looking forward to viewing your video on this. Lisa, your advice is so important for all. Thanks. Also, the way you can (maybe) make money is do like Lisa does. work 80 to 90 hours a week and do this for years.
Yep! It's part one of my two part landscape tutorial in oils that starts next week :D You are right about the work hours, I should have mentioned that lol. I may have to make another video talking about that.
Thank you for your video! I am learning so much from you! Is it ok to start a website as a beginner? I've been painting two years- is it okay to start a website with the focus being my art journey? I'm painting so much everyday because I love it.
Pinterest is coming up as a contender for artists. I'm focusing on facebook, instagram, and pinterest while maintaining my presence elsewhere. I'm on Patreon, but I don't have any patrons yet. I do have a following of about 10000 across social media. Every drop helps
Even if youtube never brings you any money trough monetizing or sponsoring, it is just a very valuable advertisement plattform. How can people buy something from you, if they don’t know you exsist? Plus: if you put yourself out there, people feel like they get to know you more, thus are more inclined to buy. And UA-cam is fun. Just yes every time xD
Thank you Lisa! Beautiful channel, I watch it almost every day 😊😊 I have a question: which program do you use for film editing...? Thank you so much, bless ya 😍😍🌸🌸
Hello 🙃 I was wondering if you had advice/video on what to charge when the customer brings you the 'canvas' to paint on? Thank you and love your instruction and art! 😍
I don't accept this anymore. I had a woman do this to me years ago. When someone brings you the canvas it's because they think they are going to save money by buying a cheap crappy canvas they found either on sale, at walmart, or on craigslist. The woman who brought me the handmade canvases she got on craigslist were HORRIBLE. I think the guy gessoed them with house paint. Best part...she paid far more than what I would have paid for quality fredrix canvases of the same size. She was ripped off so badly thinking she got a deal and trying to paint what she wanted on them was almost impossible. Never. Again. If someone is honestly going to try to save a couple of bucks like this on fine art, then they are not my ideal client anyway.
@Lachri Fine Art I'm not sure if you've addressed this but how do you print your COA? I've seen some artists just print on special card stock or paper and some include a mini COA attached to the back of the canvas as well as larger COA. Thoughts? Thank you.
I actually don't make COAs anymore. They took me too long and most people didn't care if I included them or not. When I did make them I just used a fancy cardstock to print my design onto :)
Good enough to start selling? You're ready for that as soon as people are willing to buy something :D Realistically, making sales with art is more about your marketing skills than painting skills in many cases. There is always someone who will like what you create (whether it's amazing or less than amazing), it's just a matter of finding that right person for your art :)
I have this question in my heart. thx emma and thx Lisa... (again..busy in writing notes).. Emma, hope that you have the habit of save $$.. The $$ I saved in my previous job, help me pass though a long long period. That habit allow me to said 'no' to be a partime cashier or waiter. (but part-time job is necessary if I dont have enough $$ to pay my bills)Then I concentrate day and night, using half year on improving my skill. I was not skillful enough to take portrait commission. I could take it now.
Thank you for the information! :D Helpful as someone who wants to have an art/animation business. One of my issue if I don't to want pretentious by asking for money or having my commissions on my front page. Question though, what is your opinion of deviantart as a website for art?

Thank you. Really. I have been enjoying your videos, and the inspiration and knowledge you provide. I hope I can do a quarter of what you do to help.
Thanks you Lisa! It is a really great video with really useful information.

This was incredibly useful information. I really needed this thank you so much. :)

You're so generous. I'm too old to start now but what an encouraging gift of your experience. :)
I've known of many artists who started their careers when they retired from their previous careers. It really is never too late to start :D

It's just a social media platform, it's never going to be your own website. :)
Lachri Fine Art I see. I mean, it's more built around having an art gallery than like Facebook or Instagram. So I kinda use it as my website for now. Thanks again for the reply! :)

LittleSqueesh if it helps you I'm into that stuff and I'm a teen
thank you
=D
You rock!
:D
Hey can I apply for MFA degree without BFA degree but qualified with Bachelor in Information Technology ?
If yes please suggest universities.
Hi,
As Emma I wanted to start an artist career for good. i've made and sold a few paintings but I wanted to make it my way of living. I've made several paintings but I didn't post them on Fb or Instagram because I'm afraid that since I haven't done any copyright and/or trademark my art might be stolen. Do I have to complete this process before marketing and posting my art? Thanks a lot!
just add a watermark
Why do you recommend eBay over your own website?
Most people's personal websites don't get the kind of traffic ebay does.
What about banksy
What about art leagues or clubs?
Those are also a great way to start! I was in an art association and had one of my most expensive paintings sell at an annual art show with them. Given I was a newer artist, this was really exciting for me! They also often have demonstrators and professional artists in them that you can get great tips and advice from!
Will there be another cooking with Lachri video? Perhaps for April 1st 😂
HAHA Maybe. I don't have one planned right now, I should start thinking something up :P
Lachri Fine Art thank to for considering😂 can't wait to see what you will be cooking next XD
What about fine art america?
Do you have any idea how beautiful a person you are?
Can you please speak slowly?
No more easily than someone asking you to listen faster. This is how I talk.
Oneata ritter Petruta On the upside, she gets a lot if information packed into her videos by speaking quickly! I used to be annoyed by her cadence but now I'm just appreciative for the great info. if you think about it, it's like asking someone to drop their accent for you. it's not likely to happen.
Just slow down the speed of the video lol
i like that she speaks fast:-)
On the bottom of the video, click on Setting - Video Speed - select 0.75 or lower. I make mine 2x speed all the time because I find that people talk way too slow.
Hi Lisa, I just am just starting to be successful as an artist and I have both a portfolio and website. I would really appreciate another opinion on the overall layout of my sites.
Thanks!

Starting a kids channel is a terrible idea these days in 2020. It’s so sad what UA-cam’s become.
like si no entendiste nada de lo que dijo en el vídeo
