Hi, im 62 years old and finally picked up the guitar two years ago. Im doing pretty good i think.just stumbled on this site and its right up my alley at this stage. I think itll keep me busy for a long long time,thank you!!!! My goal eventually is "My sweet lord" keep em coming and thanks again! This is awesome.

Chords are groupings of scale notes. The well known melody of "Do Ray Me Fa So La Te Do" is called the Major Scale. The Do is the Root note (R) which is the note that names the chord. Major chords consists of the Do (Root) the Me (3rd note) and the So (5th note). Minor chords have a flattened 3rd. Most people think chords are just shapes and then assigned letters as names but they're not. I will definitely do a video explaining this concept.
Thanks, this is the first course where I have seen this red symbol. I wasn't sure what it meant. I am confused because the Red symbol is above the E and the G strings when you use the G Chord. Isn't G the Root of the G? (GBD) ? I do have another question. What model of the Yamaha are you using?
@@scat4me The Root note in this particular G chord voicing is found in three different places - the 3rd fret of the low AND high E strings, as well as the open G string - as per the diagram. The choice of red for the root note, yellow for the 3rd and blue for the 5th is my own idea, just to make it easy to see where these three notes are situated for each chord. Most guitar teaching videos don't explain WHY chords look the way they do. Let me know if the diagram layout makes sense. I have kept the "standard" chord box orientation. Oh ... I am using an old Yamaha APX500 with Elixer strings.
