My husband and I recently did an Antarctica cruise. While the Drake Passage wasn’t so kind to us, it was well worth the discomfort. Antarctica is so very breathtakingly beautiful! We were blessed with the most still, serene, and otherworldly uniquely beautiful mix of ocean, firmament, icebergs, and wildlife. There are simply no words to describe what you see and feel while there. If you are able to do this, do it! You will not regret it.
Unfortunately, getting across the Drake is pretty much the price of admission to Antarctica. It can be a terrible experience, but so worth it to experience Antarctica. I told them that the gift shop should have sold t-shirts: "I survived the Drake--Twice!" since you have to go down and back. Some cruise lines offer Fly the Drake packages, but they are very expensive, and will probably double the price to get to Antarctica. I hope I can go back someday, and if I do, I'll pay the extra price to fly across the Drake!
OMG this is on my list!! A few years ago my goal was to visit every country, then I realized there are 190+ countries currently sooo I realized (as a person who works in an office most days) that is impossible. Now I plan to visit every state in the US and every continent!
@@KimberlyReviews nice! I'm on 11 states. Mexico and Canada. Also several countries in the Caribbean- Bahamas, Jamaica, grand cayman, Honduras, Haiti, and Puerto Rico. I want to leave the western hemisphere and hop on over to Africa soon. Preferably South Africa first. Maybe next spring (our fall) or in December because now it's their winter.
@@ruthhnry Very impressive! I've been to several countries in the Caribbean and a few in Europe. So now I'm interested in the other continents. Trying to get myself to stop repeating locations- I've been to Jamaica 4 times, Mexico & the Bahamas 2 times, Greece & London 3 times.
190+ countries for me too is quite impossible so I narrowed my dream to 50 countries and maybe more and 7 continents, so far been to 41 countries and will be doing my 6th continent in Antarctica in March next year
I’m not a fan of doing anything in a cold climate, but I must admit seeing the beauty of Antartica and it’s wildlife was absolutely amazing. This is something I would love to experience one day. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. By the way I’ll pass on the polar plunge 🥶
I went to Antarctica in 2018. It was the most amazing place I will ever go see. The Zodiacs were my favorite. I passed on the Polar Plunge opportunity. The Drake passage south was smooth sailing, the return back was a bouncy trip.
Loved the series, thanks to you two for sharing. I am so jealous. The ship and excursions were so different than I expected. You're enthusiasm and energy for everything is captivating. I felt bad she was a little ill, glad she finally got to enjoy it. She is so sweet. Again, thanks to both of you, for sharing this experience.
I’m so happy you did this, I love seeing my ppl adventuring and living their best life!! It’s nice to see ppl who look like you doing things out of the box . I hope you don’t take this as cliche or the wrong way. I hope you reach a million followers and more of us can see the unique experiences awaiting in the world.
I've been enjoying your adventures on "Jay the Nomad" channel. The two of you are awesome together and I am glad you had this amazing experience. What a beautiful ship!! So many of the "big" cruise companies are just voyages through the region. My aunt, at 85+ went to Antarctica on a Russian trawler converted to a cruise ship. She walked on the polar ice at 85+ years old....so I do believe I can do it too!!!
It was SO fun to meet the two of you! Your video series on World Traveler were great and we relived the whole trip watching them!Daniel and I were so excited that we appeared in a couple of places! Well done!
I do a polar bare jump every year out here in n.y in long Beach. Every year, on the coldest day of the winter, people get together to plunge into the ice-cold waters in honor and loving memory of a young man who died at 4 before being able to fulfill his wish. We help rase awareness for multiple things and help to fulfill wishes for children. It's cold, it kinda hurts, but I absolutely love it
I was wondering about those jackets. So cool. TFS bcuz I’d never do this. I can’t swim and would be worried about the icebergs. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.
Hello. I recently quit my job of 10 years. I decided to take advantage of this to see if I can make one of my dreams (to work on a ship) come true. I have had zero luck though so any help from you would be greatly appreciated. I have experience in logistics/procurement and customer service. Thank you.
This must have been such a great opportunity to do. What an amazing experience! I’ve been watching your other channel and that ship looks beautiful! It’s so nice to at least experience through your channel all the fun things you got to do. It’s good that you’re young and in shape. 😁 thank you for sharing such AMAZING footage of animals, the ship and the whole adventure. You definitely are “Living the Dream” and I’m so happy for you! 🤩
Hi Jay. I'm not a great or strong swimmer and on the lecture board you showed, it said that you must be able to swim 50 meters. Is the ability to swim well a necessity do the excursions? I noticed that a safety rope is used and held by the guides for the polar plunge. Antartica sure looks spectacular.
I really enjoyed the vlogs. I would not go on a cruise to Antarctica. But I love watching. The pictures were breathtaking, and I appreciate the fact you posted so fast. GREEEAT VIDEO!!!!! Everyone seemed so down to earth on this cruise. The ship is beautiful! Now if ever the ship go to a warmer climate....I'm there.
We are super glad that you are following your heart. Working and traveling on Virgin is two different things. Glad to see you cruising and doing your vlog/blog.
😮 too cold for me but very pretty. I’ll just live vicariously through you on this one. That lil microphone is cute. I’m slow so sitting here saying. What’s that he’s holding?😂😂😂
Great video! Antarctica truly is amazing. We were on WT Feb 27 and I wanted to point out a couple of discrepancies. Most of the meetings/lectures are not mandatory. There's a mandatory meeting on day 1 or 2 regarding landings and if you've signed up for paddle boarding, kayaking, or camping you need to attend those meetings, but the other meetings (lectures, really) are optional. Maybe Jay has some inside info, but AOV currently doesn't have any Galapagos trips. Quick note about the lectures: they are FABULOUS. We missed a few while crossing the Drake on the way home and regretted not going to the auditorium. The lectures are broadcast to the TVs in the cabins, but the signal kept cutting out (likely because we were in the Drake) and we missed a lot.
It would be awesome to see Antarctica in person, but I wouldn't do well in the cold. Thanks for sharing your journey. I've enjoyed all of the content on both channels. ❤
If my husband and I had a chance to go to Antarctica, our bags would be packed already. But, since we can't I'm glad you could go and share your experience.
Lol my hubby does barely above freezing every year! Gotta put the water in at camp! He would do the plunge and not blink. He enters the lake while there is still ice most springs. Me? No wayyyyy.
Honestly I’m good on Antarctica and Alaska, as a Puerto Rican woman, I’m a child of the sun, my skin is brown and likes to bask in the warm glow of the Caribbean …plus the cruises seem like way more fun! Lol 💁🏽♀️☀️
I normally watch you on my smart TV but never actually subscribed to your channel. Love the content and supporting what you doing by watching and commenting. Keep up the great work.
I live in Minnesota, and have done several Polar Plunges. Most, if not all are done as fund raising events for charities. Some are done in a tank of cold water, but most are done after cutting a hole in a frozen lake.
I watched your series of this expedition cruise on your Jthenormad channel. It’s the most informative video about the Antarctica expedition cruise, comparing to those from other channels I had seen. Thanks for the videos and those very educational information for anybody who has the same bucket list, what to expect and how to prepare.
Jay- I also enjoyed watching this cruise a lot, but before we decide if we will go, one really important question- how susceptible to sea sickness is Lauren? That's what would worry both me and my wife. But the experience looks amazing.
When I was 9 I was at a weekend Y camp and went out to swim in the pool. I dove in from the side, went to the bottom and shot out. It was freezing. Turns out there had been a thin layer of ice on it thst morning ! I would never do a Polar Plunge !
Bro I watched all 6 videos and it looks amazing, just got off an 7day RCL cruise and would love to try that. I’m going to put it as a bucket list thing, funds won’t allow it now. I appreciate how u open others eyes to a whole different world of cruising 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you for taking us along. Serious question. How physically fit does one need to be on this type a cruise? The mind is willing but not so sure about the body. I just turned 60. Let’s just say… if I’m on the floor for any reason, I need to get up like a toddler or find a piece of furniture….( but I’m working on that)😅
Well as a born and raised life long Texan I HATE the heat. So if I had to go on a cruise this would be it. However I also HATE the ocean. My ideal vacation would be going somewhere that doesn’t get above like 85 degrees or below 30 degrees. Like I would choose a cabin in the woods over the beach.
There’s a ‘polar plunge’ common in the Midwest states where we get freezing lakes over winter. Typically it’s a fundraiser event once a winter. You raise money or donate - and you jump into a frozen lake. They of course cut out/remove part of the ice. Have medics on hand etc. Well organized. Around me (Ohio) they do it every year regardless if lake is frozen or not, as it’s still super cold regardless.
Next time you go to Antarctica, be sure to book a cruise that goes to the South Georgia Islands. See a colony of over 600,000 mating King Penguins. The best part of my trip was South Georgia.
It was an amazing adventure and loved that you took us along with you and Lauren. I loved all of the vlogs on your other channel. Keep up the adventures!!!🥰🥰🥰
I did the polar plunge in 'nam - we were pinned down on all sides outside of Hai Phong so me an the platoon had to jump in the freezing waters. Well, it wasn't freezing exactly so MAYBE anrtarcticea would be worse but still. Very similar so I understand
Happy for your man , glad you had this experience but I think in the dance off department I may have a good match ! Lol. Anyways would love to have a group exposition. Let’s plan !

Great video! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us! Do you know of any cruises to see the Aurora Borealis? That is definitely on my bucket list. Thanks

Never thought I'd want to do a trip to Antarctica but now I'm so excited to go!
Me too! And I live in tropical 🐠 Barbados 🇧🇧!
