Patti I was a make-up artist for Lancome for almost 4 years trained at the Institute de Beaute in NYC and we were taught that you can use anybody's make-up but you need to pay attention to the right skin treatment. So as long as you have a good canvas you can be beautiful with spending a minimum of $$ on makeup...I wouldn't spend $150.00 or even a $100.00 on a foundation...but I would spend $100 or more on treatment for my skin....thanks, Patti.

Exactly what I just told Patti above in my comment! I have used Chanel skincare all my life because I found early on it just suited my skin, but I have never ever considered buying their high priced foundations! I put my money in skincare and not bragging, but you can tell by looking at my face at 72. I'm often times asked if I'm in my fifties, no joke, so I think you are spot-on ~ It's the canvas that makes any foundation look beautiful. And isn't $40-50 for a foundation high enough?

I would never pay that much for a foundation, whether it was in my budget or not. I'm gonna get on a soapbox for just a second: I feel like the beauty industry is all about telling half-truths and playing on women's insecurities. That's why in the past few years I have really scaled back what I purchase and who I choose to purchase from. I've not tried the Chanel but I often use La Mer, which is also expensive. It just feels really good on my skin. I don't kid myself. There's no foundation on the planet that fixes lines and wrinkles. That said, what makes me look old is uneven skin tone. Foundation DOES help that. Of course, it doesn't have to be expensive. We all have to experiment to find out what works for us. I LOVE watching your videos! I'm 68, by the way, and your tips are SO helpful to those of us "of a certain age". Thanks!

How do I feel about spending over $100 on a foundation or anything like that for myself at this age? I can tell you at this age, I would! The biggest reason why I would is because I love myself enough to pamper myself with the things I truly want. I used to use inexpensive products all the time. I can honestly say that my skin suffered for it. I started buying a cream from the spa I go to, and it is $112 a jar and lasts about a month. My skin is absolutely beautiful using this cream. I have always said, you don't know crap until you know quality. Understanding the quality of the product has helped me greatly in assessing its worth to me. And while there are some products that I won't spend a large amount on because I don't feel like they're necessarily worth it, when it comes to pampering myself, I will not let the cost to my pocketbook be the deciding factor anymore. I deserve the best, and I'm comfortable in knowing that. This is a great age to be! I celebrate every day of it and I won't hesitate to drink the wine and enjoy all the good that life has to offer. I won't be taking any of it with me. Haha.

I love sublimage Patti. It is the only thing I really splurge on and it’s worth every penny. I love the feel, the colors and the coverage. I put it on early in the morning and it stays on until late evening. Chanel does make beautiful foundations. I was using another of their foundations and they discontinued it so I tried this chastising myself as it was so expensive. I decided to skip other things and feel good about how my skin looks. I’ve been using it quite awhile and I intend to keep using it. I have an issue with my foot that has left me with ugly scars and I am not able to buy many pretty shoes as everything aggravates my scars and the nerves in my foot. I miss wearing pretty shoes! I’ve also just gone through breast cancer. I don’t want or need anyones pity, I’m just saying that this makeup makes me feel good about my appearance and so in that respect it’s a treat I allow myself! And I do truly feel it is the best I’ve ever worn. I’ve tried more expensive and less expensive. This is it for me. As long as I’m blessed enough in life to wear it, I will ❤

I am 73 and tried the Chanel Sublimage foundation and it was too shiny even on my very dry skin. I felt it just laid on top and wasn’t enhancing my skin. I do LOVE the Chanel No. 1 foundation because it doesn’t call attention to my wrinkles. I mix my Elta MD sunscreen into it before applying and it works great. The Chanel foundation has a tendency to oxidize on me if I don’t mix in my sunscreen. I have used Chanel foundations for years because it’s the only one I can get a perfect match with my cool tone skin. I find that almost all influencers use warm tones or way too light cool tones.
I would love too know how the Sublimage works on pretty you. You are a gem.

You are the BEST! Here’s some advice….check expiration dates on all your gift cards! Some cards lose value (monthly) after a specific timeframe. Also some cards expire and zero out! Buy the makeup if you want it! You are 79 if not now when? Look into return policies because some stores will take makeup returns if you are not satisfied…..Nordstrom is one of them! As the saying goes Just Do It! Those that gave your the gift cards would be happy you bought yourself something you wanted!

I will answer your question about spending $135 on a foundation with a question to you Patti...What in the world do you think that foundation is going to do for you for that price? Is it going to erase all your wrinkles, take away the bags under your eyes, make you look 25 again? I think not, so why would any of us mature ladies spend that much money on a foundation? It's not a miracle for anyone! I feel the key to looking great at any age is great skin. I've always been an avid Chanel skincare user and I swear by their skincare, but I have NEVER ever considered buying that foundation! I have great skin at 72 with basically no wrinkles thanks to good genes, always using sunscreen, never baking in the sun and taking care of my skin. There are so many great foundations for far less money even if I could afford it I would never buy it. In so many ways the beauty industry is a rip-off for us women, but I'm not falling for that for sure! Save your money!

Glad to see you back !! I'm 81 now and have very dry skin all over so I use lots if creams and moisturizers. Saw your video about Manuka Honey Facial Oil and ordered it. So far I haven't been happy with it. It felt so oily on my skin, not soaking in as you said it did for you. Did I do something wrong? Used it before my moisturizer then tried it after moisturizer, still not happy. It does have nice light scent but didn't meet my expectations. That's the way you find out what works for you, dial and error. Would never pay that high price for makeup. With the cost of living as it is now, not affordable. My doctor told me 10 years ago he was giving me his best prescription for elderly patients. On a prescription pad he had written: Stay Off The Floor!!! I've had several close calls so I know how true that is. All of you please be very cautious because it can happen so quickly and be very life threatening. Glad your fall wasn't serious. Enjoy your videos.

Try Argon oil. I get a small bottle at our Poundland for surprise £1. A little goes a long way and soaks in really quickly. I use it under my foundation as a moisturiser too if I’m not going in the sun. I use factor 30 if I’m walking the dogs even if it’s overcast. It usually is in the UK.

I'm almost 73, and whether I spent $15 or $150 on foundation, I'm still going to look this age. I've used Revlon Colorstay for Combination Skin for years and it just works. And it costs under $15. I use ELF Camp Concealer and it's wonderful. I do spend money on higher end eyeshadows. I've used MAC shadows for years and I still think they are the best. Great pigmentation, wonderful colors and little to no fallout. Milani makes wonderful blushes. Colorstay Foundation goes on creamy and it has staying powder, I'll use it forever...

Patti, you are a beautiful woman inside and out, wish I had know you when I was in my 20's, think we could have been great friends! You are so positive and inspiration for others. Sure, I'd pay for Chanel no problem if I were sure it would out perform the Cover Girl make up that I normally use. Chanel makes a lipstick I love, it is $38, it stays on for sometimes 24 hours and when I kiss my husband the color does not come off onto napkiins or a glass of water. For me, it is worth it. If the product does what no other comparable product does, no problems I'd buy it. Chanel does also have a fantastic mascara that I like, and I get that once in awhile, but I don't put on make up on a regular basis,. I'll wait and see if you like the Chanel makeup before I go buy some!

I looked it up and it has Vanilla Planifobia (that's an orchid bean but isn't that expensive) and diamond dust in it. I've started using vitamins for the face/skin which are expensive but getting good results. Most of the time I don't wear foundation unless I'm going somewhere special. That Chanel foundation is $197 CAD here in Canada Patti! There are too many great drugstore, and mid-end foundations (under $50) that look lovely, so I don't have to spend such a horrid amount to cover my face! I'm currently enjoying Lancome Tient Idole foundation that I got for free by saving points at our local drugstore, but I also enjoy the L'Oreal Infallible! The latest Pat McGrath eye palette is gorgeous, but again, I don't need to purchase her ten designer shadows for $174 CAD in order to get pretty eye looks, either! Makeup has come a long way, I believe, and for the most part, you can get excellent products at every price point now. Thankfully, we can all choose what amount we can afford, or what we feel comfortable spending on our makeup without losing out on enjoying wonderful products, Sherrey💕

I’ve been watching Nikol Johnson for some time. She’s very informative, down to earth in her approach … and is located very close to where I live! In any event, I’ve grown to trust her judgment, as it’s worked for me. I saw her video re the Chanel cream foundation. My make-up drawer is jam-packed with foundations all under $60.00. Most of them haven’t astounded me with their performance, regardless of their formulations and ingredients. Lots of money was spent on meh results. I’d have to sample the Chanel foundation first before purchase…

Patti, I just love your style! I want to suggest that you pick up some Arnica Cream for your trauma to your hand. You can also take the little homeopathic Arnica pellets (available at any health food store, Boiron brand Arnica 30C potency). I'm a professional homeopath since 1995 and always advise having Arnica cream and pellets on hand (no pun intended) for life's little ouchies. It is the go-to for bumps and bruises and even for shock. It's great for kids and pets too! The cream, slathered on your injured hand several times a day, will really speed up the healing process! Hope you feel better soon and thank you so much for your brightness and kindness!

A very small amount goes a long way, but the foundation then just glides on and helps with the concealer too as that seems to sink into the wrinkles 😂I also always use factor 30 sun cream as moisturiser every day. Hope my little bit is of interest.

Hi Patti...first of all, I hope you are safe during the hurricane, but mostly I hopes it misses FL altogether. As far as foundation is concerned, I've recently retired and am more budget conscious so I wouldn't but I wouldn't have when I was working either. I use Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue and also use their mascara because my eyes are very sensitive. Those are the most expensive things I buy...other than that it's drugstore brands that I find out about when I watch make up people that I trust and they do drugstore brands. When I was in my 30s I would buy my make up in department stores (mostly because it was fun), but being older, wiser, and retired I like how I buy make up now. My perfume is a designer brand but I don't use it every day so it lasts. I loved this video...but then you always are honest and up front!
