The camera is a good idea, but I'm glad that I saw this because I'd bet that you have a Raccoon or Raccoons (family group) visiting. They have hands and climb super well. Our farm is fully fenced, we know there are predators around, so we are careful to secure things, we are also careful to close up feed/not spill feed so we aren't feeding a mouse population. This type of thing was happening to us. Wish I could post pictures here. We would find cages open, animals turned loose but their cage is mysteriously closed, feed barrel lids off, garbage dragged off around the property. They can open any latch or doorknob with their hands that we can. They can also untie knots. We used livetraps baited with catfood. We put the sensors for those cheap motion activated driveway chimes near the live traps to let us know when we got one, because they are most active at night. Once, one of the chimes went off at night and we rushed out there, but the raccoon wasn't in the trap, apparently heard us coming, and without an escape route, it climbed one of the poles to the peak of the barn roof. It was just hanging there completely silent hoping we wouldn't see it and we almost just walked away thinking it had escaped. They can blend in with trees and shrubs so well that at night they are almost impossible to see unless your flashlight shines on their eyes. We have had them up in the apple tree over our chicken run also, which is fully enclosed thankfully. We did have to put in an automatic chicken house door and a put a baby monitor camera with night vision in the chicken house. If you are able to put the camera in a place that is sheltered from the weather those are cheaper than a trail cam. Especially with nothing stollen, I don't think this is likely to be a person (child), and sometimes cages are closed and other times left open, it's exactly what we experienced. One last thing, if you find that you have raccoons and livetrap them, we tried at first to relocate them to the forest like 5 miles away. They have excellent sense of direction and drive to return to their territory. If you just relocate them, they will be back in a few days. Hope this helps you out. I have kept rabbits since I was a teen (still a teen at heart), I have found value in many of your videos. Thank you.

I think it's a kid. Loves your bunnies and couldn't hold em tight enough. The pellets on the top lid may have been your buck checking his females. Hopeful for you.😊

I once had somebody come into my yard and open all 40 of my rabbit cages I managed to get all those that had gotten out back except for one, my grand champion buck. I was devastated.

I just bought myself a cheap little game camera and set it up on tree to see any critters that are curious about our quail at night. Kinda unsettling to have someone on your property brother.

Any new neighbors? I had issues years ago. I set a camera up inside my window watching outside and found a little ol lady that didn't think animals should be cooped up. Caused me a mess. I showed it to the dog catcher that helped me not have to pay a fine for my animals being out. I had to go to the dog pound 2x for my dog.i didn't have to pay the second time to get my dog back either.. now live in the country.

Get a couple cameras, so that you know what is actually going on. Better safe than sorry. IF it is a kid that is curious, you could use that, to teach the child, to mentor that curious mind.

My daughter and I had several quail "get out" once, at night. The next morning there were two that magically appeared inside a heavy metal cage on the ground built with 1/2" hardware cloth, door on top with half a bale of hay on top of the door. I caught some of the others that were just hanging around near their cage. It didn't make sense to let some birds out on purpose, then place two in a cage that would require significant effort.

I think kid also. I know Raccoons can easily climb and open cage latches, but climbing up a gate to open the gate when they can easily just finish climbing over.

I know you're super chill, but someone messing with your property is a big deal. Definitely get your camera out there, and maybe some motion triggered lights. The potential for things to go badly is very real.

I had this issue years ago. The kid had some balls. Dude would just walk in the yard while I’m sitting on the patio. I asked him to ask first next time and he said he didn’t have to 😂. I lost my patience after I pad locked the gate and then caught the kid climbing the gate. Found out who his parents were and had a discussion with them and it stopped.

I have cameras, you'd be surprised the wildlife that's been around my chicken coops, especially at night.

I had something similar happen to me. A cage door would be open in the morning about 3 different occasions. I couldn't figure it out. I thought my husband maybe wasn't latching them all the way. A few days later, I look out the window and see my dog playing with something odd. It was one of the rabbits (now dead 😢). The cages were all locked. How did it get out? A few hours later I saw a rabbit trying to get in the rabbit hutch. I catch him, put hin back in his hutch. All cages still latched. I sat there for about 30 minutes to see if I could catch what was going on. When 2 rabbits lean on the door at the same time it creats a gap. They were slipping out! Don't know how to remedy that except build a better door design.
Couldn't the rabbit poop be from the one that got loose trying to get in? I watched my second escapee doing that.
So the gate happened to me too. Our dog would jump or push on it just right and the latch would fly up. My husband looped a strong wire on top of the chain fence post. The loop is just big enough to slip over the ball on the gate post.
I've woken up to my quails being loose too. Luckily, they are double caged. A cage built around Hatching Time cages. Their door latches get very loose so thats no shocker.
I hope you get it figured out soon.

Either kids is opening the cages and setting them free. Or raccoon is opening them.
