- 🌟✨ My design process laid out for all to see! 🌟✨
I’m always asked if I can show how I design a piece of jewellery so today I’m designed three pieces of jewellery from the beads in the latest Love Bug 🐞💖 Soft Flex Design Challenge Kit. I take you along and show you my process and how I come up with the designs that I do.
I make a gorgeous pair of Valentine’s Day inspired earrings, a pretty pink and red bracelet and I use the rest of the beads to make a necklace with a honey bee and hearts.

Jump ring on the clasp is an absolute. I learnt the hard way after having to restring. It means you can also add an extender chain if necessary. Love your accent from a kiwi living in Perth. 😊
Hi Marilyn, "Kiwi living in Perth". Thank you so much. I actually had that experience last week where I had to shorten a piece and had to completely restring it. It's so annoying when this happens. Thank you so much.
I love the set’s it so beautiful you have made a beautiful set out of this collection of bead’s thank you ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Anatasia.
I love these. It's interesting to see what you can do with limited beads rather than having your regular selection.
Since I'm just starting out I don't have a HUGE selection so this helps me and gives me ideas.
I make do with what I have.
Thank you Beth. It's funny, even though I have this huge selection of beads I often find myself reaching for the same ones over and over again. Limitations spur creativity.
Love the earrings and the bracelet! I have challenged myself to make just from the box and I know how hard it can be! Very good video
Thank you so much. Yes, I didn't love the necklace either so it may come undone and be remade into something else. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hello Carol I loved the way you work and I loved the results to-day. Thank you
Thank you so much, Vicky. It was a bit of a mess but I got there in the end!
well done, by showing your process, it’s clear that individual preferences as well as balancing the design have a role to play. I really liked the results, especially when paired with your lovely pink jacket! That is the best way to wear multi bead style jewelry, with something subtle that lets it shine. All three pieces were winners!
Thank you so much, Bonnie. I'm glad you liked it.
Thank you for all the ideas in the video.
You are so welcome, Dianne.
I really enjoyed watching your creative process! And...balancing a bracelet, I had never heard of that before and I will attempt that with my personalized MedicAlert bracelets! Thank you for clear instructions as well, hugs 🫂
You are very welcome. I'm really pleased you enjoyed this one. I'm not sure where I came up with the idea of balancing a bracelet but it seems to work. Thank you.
Yes, it can take me an hour or so to get satisfied with my designs and color combinations. Thank you 😊
Thank you Sandra. To be honest, I wasn't happy with the necklace here and I'm going to remake it in my private group live. I think I'll add some different beads and not limit myself. That happens sometimes.
Thank you for a really informative tutorial Carol, as you know I’ve been curious to learn more about your design process and this fitted the bill perfectly 😊 I love some of these beads - the hearts and bright pink ones especially! My favourite piece is definitely the earrings - they look great with your jacket. Oh, and I see you’re wearing the blue glass necklace - it looks great, I’m so pleased with mine! 💙
You are so welcome, Jane. Yes, my favourite are the earrings too. I found the ladybirds and bee quite challenging as not really my style but this video was all about the challenge! I do love my teardrop necklace. I'm glad you like yours too. I find it a little challenging to wear with certain necklines but I have a turtleneck which I purchased at the end of last summer and I think it will work perfectly with that.
I love the way you hung the heart on the necklace, a very clever idea. You did amazing with the beads you had to work with, I'd have grabbed lots of beads from my stash. ❤❤❤
Thank you Hope. I was tempted but I had made the commitment not to use other beads so that's what I did. It was quite challenging but that's a good thing, to challenge your creativity.
❤ love your tutorials. Always very informative, presentation on point and good to see your thought process. Love the end results, stunning.❤❤❤
Thank you so much. I'm so pleased that you liked what I made.
So beautiful, I love them all. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. I'm glad you liked them. It was a bit of a challenge because I didn't allow myself to use any other supplies.
I love everything that you created, especially the earrings ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Swita. I adore the earrings too.
I always look forward to watching your videos ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Miriam. I'm so pleased that you enjoy them. This one was a little different so I was wondering if my audience would enjoy it.
I like everything you create. Your helping me explore my own creativity 👍🏽
Thank you so much, Jennie. I'm so pleased that this helped.
Nice to know that we all suffer the agony of looking at it and saying not quite right enjoyed this one very much. Thank you.
Thanks, Joyce. Yes, I think we all do it. I know I do it over and over again and sometimes I have to put a project away for another day.
I love seeing you have a new video posted! Your upbeat personality is always enjoyable and your videos fun. I like all the pieces you made and I totally agreed with your choices io take items out or move their places. In my opinion that bee totally makes the necklace pop, I hope it stayed well and didn’t give any issues. I made a necklace using your design with the memory wire, but a little different, wish I could share it with you. Thanks and have a great weekend.
Thank you so much. You can always tag me on social media if you share your designs there. I would love to see them. If not, you can email me, or if you join the membership, we often do a show and tell in our zoom calls.
Loved your process video
Thank you so much.
So cute!!!
Thank you.
Great job designing. I think the bumblebee should go away on the necklace and then you could add more pink to go with the pendant.
Thank you, Nancy. The fact that I had not realised that the hole with through the middle instead of up and down kind of threw me.
Great video. Everything is beautiful. ❤
Thank you so. much, Ronda.
Thank you so much, Rhonda.
I love the earrings! Simple and cute! ❤️🙏 The bracelet and necklace was beautiful as well. The bumblebee might be a cute Charm on the bracelet. What do you think?
Thank you. These earrings have become some of my favourites. I ended up remaking the necklace on a zoom call with my members because none of us liked it.
Wow! I love watching your videos and always learn (or relearn) how to do at least one more technique. And I love the asymmetrical result! But, if your design process is a mess mine must be the perfect storm. Ending up with so many jars and jars of beads pulled from my shelves, the next day seems to be spent just putting everything back. Thank you for another lesson.
Thank you so much, Mary Jane. Usually that is the process which is why I don't usually film it - I end up with jars of beads all over my desk, on the floor, behind me, etc. That's why I challenged myself in this one to use only the beads that I had in the kit so that I didn't make too much of a mess. I also cut out quite a lot of my "thinking" time as this video took me about 2 hours to film and I didn't think you needed to watch me just sitting there for hours.
@@The_Stylish_Maker Phew! I feel better.
Well, I certainly don’t feel alone! LOL. I have containers of several types of beads, findings, etc., all around me and a little of this and that put out in piles as I try things. Designing can be a messy endeavor, looks like I’m in good company! ☺️
You certainly are Dianne. I have not yet figured out a way to design a piece without making a mess.@@dbolognani
Hi Carol,
I’m getting married at the end of May and am thinking about making my own bridal jewelry. I was wondering if you have any tutorials or suggestions for beautiful bridal pieces? And if not, maybe you’d consider making a tutorial? You’re my fav jewelry UA-camr! Thank you! ❤-all the way from Phoenix, AZ, USA
Hi Kadey, just visited your channel - it looks great. I also love to cook. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Bridal jewellery is such a hard thing - it's so subjective. For example, my daughter is getting married in October and I know that for her, the jewellery will be big and bold and chunky and probably black and pink. I understand that this isn't the norm but what I'm trying to say is that everyone's taste is so different and when it comes to your wedding day, it needs to be perfect. Maybe it's something we could work together on privately. Why don't you email me and we can see where that goes. carol@affordablejewellerysupplies.co.nz.
Those ladybugs had me stumped!!!
Thank you, Beth. To be honest, they had me stumped too. They don't really work with my style so it was a huge challenge to put them in.
I love that you showed your process...its pretty much the same way i go along. Put something here, shift something there....its always an adventure seeing how it will end up!
Thank you Marjorie. Yes, it is always pretty messy. I found restricting myself to just the beads in this pack quite challenging.
@@The_Stylish_Maker
I think I would have, as well. It didn't feel super cohesive
I agree and I've had lots of comments saying the same thing. Can't say the necklace and bracelet are my favourite pieces so I will probably take them apart and repurpose the beads. I do, however, love the earrings.
@@The_Stylish_Maker I didn’t mind the bracelet, but the necklace…yeah I can see it coming apart! The thing is, no one would only have what came in the box…adding something from your stash will make a HUGE difference!
It really does. I'm working on a new video now with the next bead box (I've finally caught up) which will be released late next week. This time I'm going into my stash as well!
Thank you Thank you thank you 😊
You are very welcome, Sandra. Thank you.
Various, you are so creative! These pieces are a little frilly for me. But what beautiful pieces.
Thank you Charisse. To be honest, I didn't like the necklace and wasn't over the moon about the bracelet either. I may take another crack at making something with these beads and not limit myself to using just the beads in the kit. I do love the earrings, however and have worn them a lot.
I like watching you design your jewelry. Jackie Jones Rowlett TX
Thank you so much, Jackie.
The larger pink beads look like jelly bean candies
Oh yes, they do. I hadn't seen that until you said it. They were actually quite difficult to use because they were so much larger than most of the other beads.
Hi there, I watched this video and started making my jewellery. Made 2 necklaces and a pair of earrings to match them. I think they throw in a mind-bender in those kits. I would have taken the silver heart out and used it someplace else. The rest of the pieces you made are all very nice. I love the bumble bee. I would love to hear about the wires that you are using. I have a bunch of them that I have been using for years but am running out and I want to know the difference between them. Thanks for your video and this shows how us artists have to really think of the engineering of a piece to make it work. (and that is when the costs come in as well!)
Thank you so much, Flora. I agree that they often throw in a challenging piece or 2 in these kits. The hearts were actually my favourite thing and the bumblebee and ladybugs were not my style which is why I struggled with them so much. I can see what you meant about taking it out though. It's interesting how we all come up with different items using the same pieces.
@@The_Stylish_Maker Yes, it is. Love to see the creative process of other people. That would be a fun video to make with a small group and see how many will make it very similar or not!
That would be interesting although with all of the people using the Soft Flex Challenge kits you can see that on UA-cam anywya.@@florak1087
Because of the way the bumblebee was going, I would have put it on display to replace the silver heart.
That's interesting, Nathalie. I loved the heart and wanted to use it but I certainly have done that too.
Sorry Carol, I also had a question to ask! Is Softflex any different to Tiger Tail, which is what I usually use? If so, when is it more appropriate? Thank you 😊
Soft Flex is tougher than Tiger Tail - it's 19 strands and tiger tail is only 7. Did you watch my video about the stringing material in the members area? I talked about the different thicknesses and how many strands, etc. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/users/livekHiMniKTv08?si=s0M_0nLJnUiKGwzg
You used the wire guardian on one side but not the other. When should you be using one?
Thanks, Lisa. That's a great question. I only used the wire guardian on one side because of the jump ring. When you put a stringing material through a jump ring, especially one that is made from a thinner wire like I used here, the stringing material can often slip out or the jump ring might get pulled open slightly. That's why I used it only one the one side. I could just have easily used it on both sides for consistency.
Carol you are so
Ha ha, Charisse. I hope it was a good adjective!
I like the earrings the best and really enjoyed how you made the necklace. I think the big square pink bead in the middle doesn't really fit with the other beads.
Thank you Laura. I agree to some degree. I had challenged myself to work only with the beads I had but sometimes you need to look further. I would have put a silver connector in there probably. I do love the earrings and have worn them several times.
Thanks, Carol! I love your UA-cam channel and using it to polish up my jewelry-making skills! I am thinking of joining your other subscription service as I would love to hang out and chat on video and share what I am up to!
And I do love the earrings
Oh that would be great. Our Zoom calls monthly are such fun (although slightly lacking in attendees). We are also going to be doing some fun stuff in the upcoming months.@@MadoriDesigns
Thank you. They were actually my favourite piece.@@MadoriDesigns
Glad to know it's not just me who goes 'No I hate that' and then completely changes everything I have done so far! Just a thought - if you haven't already, maybe make a playlist (or call it a course or something) of 'How to do XYZ' and then just reference that in your videos? Saves you time, rather than saying 'This video does jump rings, this one does wire wrapped loops' etc. ! I really like the Earrings and Bracelet, the necklace isn't my style but it looked nice all together :)
Thank you so much, Lexi. I honestly don't know why I didn't think about linking to a playlist (I already have a techniques one) rather than to every video. I guess I had thought that it's just the specific techniques I'm using in that one video that I'm sharing. That is such a great idea. I will do that from now on. Thank you again.
How can I watch Style Makers network
Hi Sue Anna, here's the link to the Style Makers Network. thestylemakersnetwork.com/
I want to watch your New Network but I don't any money on me
I do want you to apologize to for not watching your new Network
I have been continuing watching your other shows on UA-cam Mrs.Carol
But I do love you teaching me how to make jewelry
Where is the new network
Hi Sue Anna, you can find it here: thestylemakersnetwork.com/
I still have to go through and change all of the links on the old videos.
Move the lady bugs down.
Thank you for the suggestion Nadine. I actually ended up remaking this necklace as I just didn't like it. I shared a picture of it on the community tab last week.
