That's a great idea, I also do my own coloring bids except that, I paint directly on the back of the glass bids, I use nail polish, regular acrylic paint and, afterwards, I use clear paint to keep the colors vibrant. It is a slow process though because one has to wait until the paint dries to apply another color. I even use them as cabochons wrapped in wire for necklaces, Just thought that maybe someone will like to try my system as well.
These turned out beautifully! You can also use regular alcohol inks so you don't have to do the whole Sharpie part. You can also use cheap nail polish. Matt, next time introduce your guest presenter!😊
I like to heat my glass beads in a dry heavy bottomed pot on the stove on high, for a minute or 2, then drop them into ice water. They crackle nicely, then I color the back of the cabochon with nail polish, sharpies, etc. The color shows up well in the microscopic crack lines. They are beautiful!
@@staceyvickery8103 she's making something the way she wants to make it. You can make whatever you like, but there are many who like the effect the foil and ink gives. I don't see how it's too hard or too complicated. The process is pretty straightforward.
great project! However, it would likely be easier to get Alcohol inks by Ranger and just use a few drops out of the bottle than using sharpies and this process. You will also get a wider range of colours as well. Great ideas here! Thanks for sharing, Kim

This is so cool so the foil become your base. You can also put them in a place bags and pour some of your ink it well come because these will be pretty wrapped some stone around thank you for sharing this was just fantastic
Glitter than any color fingernail polish. Simple and just as pretty. My granddaughter and I did magnets for her locker. This year we used glow in the dark polish. I have mine on my fridge Stott.
Cool idea. I'm working on something similar using my own photos printed on regular white paper using mod podge to apply the photo to the glass piece and then painted with nail polish so there's a background color after I get bunch of these done going to figure out how to get them to stay into an old bowling ball. We'll see how it turns out. I have also wire wrapped the ones I've done with my photos onto gears with ridges they look very nice.
Nice. Dollar stores sell glass stones like these made in China. Instead of using plain white glue Xyron makes a variety of Sticker Makers for different sized projects and objects. That applies their adhesive evenly to the entire surface of the glass stone. I personally would be afraid of the fragile Aluminum (not tin) foil ripping off the stone with a magnet glued to it. As for cutting them to size one thing you could try is using a Brother Scan 'N Cut which allows you to scan in the whole sheet of indentations that you drew (or however you've marked the project or any shape really) so that it can be cut out automatically by the machine. This frees up time for you to make more crinkled and colored metallic sheets. Then once those cuts are done just glue them to your glass stones. As for art you could also try highly detailed fractals whereby one 8.5x11 inch page could yield beautiful backgrounds over the entire page. Or using the aforementioned Brother personal scanner & cutter pull up saved scans to have it cut out those shapes. A cool way to remain creative and streamline your activities for something like 20,000 sales on Etsy or Patreon or Square. Have you tried gluing two glass stones back-to-back perhaps using the same or two different sheets of foil? You'd need only a tiny amount of sealant to protect the edge. It could be a cool oddly rolling cat toy or something to drop in the swimming pool to see who can find the most which are gonna be plenty hard to find once they almost look invisible underwater.
OMG! Found about 50 old Markers Today purchased a set from QVC some time ago they all seem dry I will soak a few ASAP need ink for Resin project. Thank you so very much for the Vlog.
I've used the same stones and used clear glitter nail polish then after that dries I use a darker nail polish, some metallic and they turned out so awesome. I'm considering using a bit of a powder glitter and maybe mix it with clear nail polish so it would adhere. It's fun to experiment. Nice video
I have been using glitter nail polish (clear with glitter) and various sparkly nail polishes that I get from the Dollar Tree (the cashier gives us funny looks when my wife and I go to check out, cause I will seperate my craft stuff to be bagged seperately - "Please bag this stuff seperately, it's mine" - and it has bunches of nail polish in it hehehe)
Same here except that I literally paint them. A snowman name Peppermint (snowman wearing sparkling blue tuxedo) on one glass cabachon (the ones Taylor demonstrated) & a snowwoman named Candy Cane (snowwoman wearing pink sparkling top & sparkling green skirt) on the other glass cabachon. Used them as fridge magnets.
Wow, I'm so glad to learn different things that r different and cool.Since I started doing jewelry , I've added it to my artistic know how.😍Thanks to Everyone..The tutorials r Great.
Taylor, thanks for the clear explanation ! I have a million of these gems (Sharpies too, for that matter), so I'm eager to see what kind of mess I can make. So fun! 🖐😷
I glue leather on the back of these and sew seed beads around them. So much you can do with these glass stones. Now I want to try the alcohol and sharpie. They are pretty.
I made something much like this a couple years ago but I used nail polish colors instead of sharpies And painted on the back of the glass then put it on the foil which sticks very well.. That’s skips the whole glue process but you do have to wait a while for it to dry. Then I covered it with clearcoat spray on the back just to give it extra strength and used heavy duty tinfoil. These ones in your video very pretty and I’ll have to try the foil crinkle method next time I make some.
Sharpies...Hmmmmmmmmmmm!! I need to research. my background as an RN, and strong interest in environmental health is coming into play! But Matt, You are still the Bomb!!
Karne McKillip, Agreed! Great projects, but Sharpies + isopropanol = a very bad day with my severe asthma :-b I need to work out a respiratory-friendly alternative means to achieve the same look :-)
Good job on the video. Just wondering: before making all those vats of alcohol ink, did you try scribbling the markers onto the foil and then spritz/mist it with some alcohol? Just a thought. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet it would work and be less time consuming and messy. Of course, there's always alcohol ink pad refill bottles too for this. I enjoy bead weaving bezels for my gemstone cabs. I think that would be a great option for these fun glass cabs. Thanks for sharing. You've gotten my creative wheels spinning on how to use some glass pebbles have.
Very cool, thanks for the post. I want to wire wrap the cabochon, what should I put on the back so the foil doesn't tear? I also feel pretty smart being able to say cabochon.
Great Idea and clearly explained :) I only have one green sharpie at home but i will try with that and leave some in silver wanna make NOOOW so no time to wait for sharpies to arrive
Great tutorial, but if you glue the Cabochons directly onto the coloured foil and then use a soft nail file to remove the excess, it would make it so much easier than having to cut a circle out of the foil
Silver tape from the hardware store on the back . Then go around them with silver or copper tape strips. I made something similar and then glued on a bail. They came out nice as jewelry.
Could you just draw or scribble on the crinkled aluminum foil with the sharpies and then drip the alcohol on top to blend the colors together? It might be simpler that way? Either way, it’s a fun and colorful idea!
Hmmmm, very cool idea, you could save up those old sharpies and use a 91% alcohol in bottles to recycle the remains just keep adding and it gets darker.
I thinkt he red going pink is because the alcohol is diltuing it into pink. if you put two (or even three) sharpies in the same container you'd get a more red, red (or you use less alcohol of course) you should also be able to just colour onto the foil with the sharpie then use the alcohol on the q-tip (or drip/spray) to blend/move it oh and two pair plier (or a vice and 1 pair plier) will possibly get those sharpies to come apart easier ;)
I like the dimension and paterns you get. I used nail polish, then glue to seal it. Then s..glue them to a tile and hang them up with comm...hooks. i also use to replace bathroom tiles. Kids noodle cigar boxes, princess lace themes or mermaids with seashells. all fun!
You want permanent ink...or just buy a few colors of bottled alcohol ink...faster to get down to business...and they make lovely designs, dripped onto photo paper, tile, and other non-porous surfaces.
Maybe try lacquer to seal them. And have you tried using glass stones like those but a bit bigger ones and shaped like hearts or stars? I a little curious now to see if they would work out. I believe they are a bit thicker as well. Thanks for the videos that are inspiring.

Ellie Knol not really. A rolling pin is too wide for small projects like this and the downward force is spread out. Brayers are smaller, usually four or five inches wide, and can have a rubber coating.
I think it is a cool idea except for the fact that sharpies fade over time. The best alcohol inks are made from colorfast dyes. Every sign I have ever made with sharpies faded.

I have plenty of nail polish. A lot of it is old though. I suppose I could thin it.

Can't wait to try this.
Bake colored stones in 400° oven for 20 min then throw unto bowl of ice water. You can hear them crack when they first get into the water.
Sorry but she is making it harder than it has to be.

Wouldn't that make the glass piece dangerous like it could crack in pieces and cut someone at some point?
I used to just drop my dried up used Sharpies in a bottle of alcohol for a few days. It WORKS!
Oh...and how many I've thrown away or just stuck into water: Thanks for the alcohol idea!
