Great review! That rocky coast where Mae talks to the Dark Side user at the end of the first episode reminds me of Ahch-To.

Explain why a Jedi drop out, who was suspected of killing a Jedi Master, was allowed to be brought back on a standard prison transport with zero guards? Arrogance of Jedi is one thing, but a complete disregard for protocol in that situation makes zero sense. The show is poorly written. The diversity isn't the problem

I have been looking forward to this for years... I am a bit let down. I think the writing is very basic and on the nose in places. Acting (Vern aside) was excellent, the sets look...OK? I work from home, so I have rewatched these episodes several times. The story has potential, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the later episodes.

I really, really wanted to like it. It has a few actors i like, so i was excited waiting for it to start! However, i did not like it at all. To me it was more matrix, shogun, star trekish. The matrix style fighting didn't work in tlj and for me it didn't work here either. It's not that i don't like strong female leads, because i do. For me this is not star wars. And yes i am putting my money where my mouth is and will not watch anymore. I'm just very disappointed.

I didn't like the show at all. Even before I checked the ratings on Google. I have never seen a show that is only enjoyed by 32% of the people. But the show is so overly woke that it's just annoying. The fire in space was dumb but I guess it could have been near the outer atmosphere of a planet still. But the two mothers of the female main character already raised my eyebrows. Then I noticed that there were barely any white men visible, only aliens and mostly females of various races. That felt super forced and I immediately had to think of the black elven guy from the Lord of the Rings show on Amazon Prime Video. The show didn't catch me at all and I can't wait to not watch in next Wednesday because my time is too precious for this crap. I will watch The Clone Wars instead. Even the weird episode with C-3PO and R2-D2 (season 4, episodes 5 & 6) are more enjoyable than The Acolyte.

This is the first evaluation of The Acolyte that isn't a misogynistic rant. I really appreciate your presentation in an adult manner. Been seeing so many of those misogynistic rants the past few months. Grown men having temper tantrums. If they don't like Star Wars new shows, then they shouldn't watch or read advanced press articles. Plain and simple. I'm not sure why these guys feel the need to tear into Kathleen Kennedy and claiming that Star Wars is nothing more than feminist political diatribe. I honestly don't see it.

I think it’s really sad that people aren’t allowed to criticise something without being called a misogynist, racist or homophobe. Those words mean something and throwing them around whimsically really harms people who are actually victims of these things.

    • @bohemiansusan2897

@@Cenacles when the terms fem nazi, stupid women, ruined by female presence and such, misogyny is easily proved. When one complains about X (Asian, black, Arab or what have you actor or character and highlights race or ethnicity which has no baring on the script's or plot line's character, it is veiled racism.
There are standards used to judge such matters that come from the social sciences that cannot be twisted into other definitions. Yet when those are used, most and especially in the US or UK flip out. It is NOT throwing the terms around whimsically by any means but adhering to academic rubrics. To assume that I don't understand hate speech is just another way to engage in dismissal without finding out exactly what is said or failing in judgement based on a lack of specificity. It is EXACTLY engaging in the whimsical use you are insinuating that I engage in. Such sloppiness in thought, dialog and failing to ask why earns a fail in anyone of my tests that I give n my college classes.

@@bohemiansusan2897 I’m sorry but I’ve seen people calling perfectly legitimate criticism of the show misogyny. If you honestly have only seen ‘misogynistic rants’ regarding this show and no legitimate criticism, then you might be looking in very extreme places and need to try to avoid hateful people/content. I haven’t seen a single person use the term fem Nazi, or any negative reference to the female presence in the show and of course like every single rational person on the planet, also believe that would be unacceptable. I honestly don’t think you understand the gravity of what you’re saying and hope that I’m wrong, but this show is deservedly receiving heavy criticism for having a ludicrous budget for a show that seemingly understands so little about the Star Wars universe and canon, following on from a long list (with a few exceptions) of such ever since TLJ, when Disney seemingly decided that George Lucas’ Star Wars wasn’t the Star Wars they wanted. As a lifelong fan I feel extremely alienated by what has become of SW and the people who defend it in its current form choose to blindly wave away fair criticism with claims of sexism & racism, when in actual fact SW and its fandom has always been like one massive family.
