Great that you always meet so nice and helpful people. The weather looks really rough. My dog would not set one paw outside - haha - no chance to walk with him in the rain.

Liebe Grüße aus Kerala, no snow here, but 26C at 3am… From my bed I can hear the waves hitting the shore 😊

Alluring Artic had similar keel problem on their maiden voyage up west coast to Alaska. Also fortuitous. Fair winds..☝️❤️🌍

My my….love your videos…but you always make me nervous when I see you in any kind of trouble….because I know I could never be near to offer any help!! (Ps…I don’t know anything about boats and I don’t know how to swim (😂😂). I do know you are two of the greatest and interesting friends I’ve ever met!. God love you both for persevering through it all and your love of the ocean…stay safe p, keep posting and do stay in touch! ❤❤

Do you know what could have caused that much corrosion in such a short time in the water?

This is more or less the deal - I might have some details incorrect - but for the most part, here goes. In marinas or harbors it is (unfortunately) common to get stray "current" transmitted through the water - this is usually caused by a nearby boat who is improperly grounded or has a wire somewhere in their vessel that is inadvertently shorted or touching the hull or water via some electrical conduit. The difference in ground "potentials" between boats (and AC shore power) can cause a stray current to flow in water (deadly in some rare but severe cases if someone falls in the water). All grounds are not created equal unfortunately and this difference creates an electron current "potential". We have been plugged in to AC power on virtually every dock we have visited to charge our batteries - and this instantly sets up a different ground potential than an offending (leaky current) vessel. This difference in ground potentials creates an "anodic" difference making one boat an anode and the other boat a cathode. This then allows electrons to flow while floating in an electrolyte (yep enter - salt water). Next - metals have different "galvanic" properties (google metal nobility / electron loss). Long scientific explanation short - this ground potential / anodic difference essentially enhances electron loss (read metal corrosion) on the anodic lower noble metal - in this case our prop zincs. (Zincs on boats are considered "sacrificial" and are intended to corrode first, saving more important metals in hopes the owner remembers to replace the zincs before they completely corrode away). If the zincs had wasted away to nothing the next higher noble metal on Hakluyt would be the aluminum servo prop housing - after that - the brass propellers --> although the brass would really have nothing holding it to the boat if the aluminum corroded away! We got super lucky that the keel compelled us to haul out - otherwise this issue would have gone unnoticed and could have become much much worse in another marina with stray current roaming the water. We suspect the two weeks we spent in St John's around dozens of old fishing vessels was where we got "zapped". But with a high enough potential difference - it could be a short time parked next to a single boat! The antidote is a galvanic isolator or galvanic transformer. These devices magically "isolate/rectify" the grounds - and preventing any (or most) of the corrosion caused by these events. We now have one!! Whew!
