Great question. If the DJ before you is using thumb drives, or CDs, you can plug in your USB cables to the back of the CDJ, use the CDJ aggregator or simply open Traktor and select your soundcard. You can do this while the other DJ is playing and it will not affect his playing at all. When your ready to start, just hit link on the CDJs, select Control Mode, and select your Deck and your good! Sometimes you need to hit the back button on the CDJ a couple times to select Control Mode

On the other hand, if you don't have a DJM 900, DJM 2000 or any mixer with a built in soundcard, or Traktor Kontrol S4, the CDJ 2000 sound card is super punchy and sounds amazing coming through an analog mixer. Also its great because you can play back to back with someone thats using thumb drives or CDs without having to switch any cables.
Yes correct. If you have a Mac, plug in your DJM 900 and 2 CDJs and your ready to go! I only put those other instructions on firmware updating in so you guys have all of the facts.
Not to mention that it would be pretty awesome to have a advanced waveform display on the player itself :D

Yes, my preferred setup is 4 CDJ 2000's in HID mode with Traktor and DJM 900 as the soundcard / mixer. I wouldn't waste your money on any other brand of CDJs if you want to use the CDJs with Traktor. Also the S4 is great as well and cheaper. I personally prefer using the CDJ 2000's since most big clubs have them and I don't have to travel with as much gear.
I love using the DB4 as well with adv. HID. Amazing sound quality!
You can use the CDJs as a soundcard, but you will only have as many separate channels as you have CDJs. You can also use a 4 channel Audio interface and route each deck to its own channel on the soundcard. If you only have 2 CDJ 2000's, you can actually use any one of the CDJs to control any deck in Traktor, and you can change what deck your controlling on the fly by holding down the browse button on the CDJ.
Yes to my knowledge you can also use the CDJ 850's as a soundcard and controller for Traktor in HID mode.
Yes you can use the S4 as the mixer and the CDJs as the decks. Its nice if you use the CDJs as decks C & D and use the jog wheels for decks A & B
Yes you can use the Audio 10 or any other soundcard and still have HID Control over Traktor from the CDJs. You also don't need a scratch version of Traktor to do this since your not using timecode CDs.
Yes, this will also work with the CDJ 850's but you may need to download the MIDI mapping file from the pioneer website to make it work properly.

Yes, correct. If you don't own another soundcard and want to use the CDJs as a soundcard for Traktor, you will need to download the drivers for the CDJ (windows only) and use the aggregator to aggregate the soundcards.
I personally recommend using the DJM 900 as the soundcard and the CDJ 2000's as the controller. Its safer this way because if the CDJs come unplugged the sound won't stop. You can just plug the CDJs usb back in and it will work again instantly. Also you can use the recording feature on the DJM 900 if you use it as a soundcard, and you can use all 4 channels instead of just 2 (assuming there are only 2 CDJs at the club)
I actually personally recommend to use a separate soundcard and use the CDJs only as HID controllers, and use the soundcard as the soundcard. I personally use the Audio 8 DJ as my soundcard with my high quality oyaide cables, and then use the CDJs as controllers only. I would plug the Audio 8 (or whatever sound card your using) into the computer directly, and then plug the CDJs and any controller your using into a good quality USB hub. I use 4 CDJs and Maschine all in one hub and it works great.
I haven't heard of this. What might help is taking your beer off of the CDJ Platter and it should work fine. I have this problem all the time!!
Not only can you do everything Rekord box can do with this setup but its much more powerful than Rekord Box. Traktor's beatgridding algorithm is way more accurate, meaning you can pretty much use Sync completely accurately without even having to adjust the beat grid. Also this adds Quantized Cue point triggering, perfectly snapped loops, beat quantized effects that are perfectly quantized to the beat, and instant showing up waveforms without having to export any playlists.
You can get away with using the CDJ 2000's with older firmware, but if you can get the sound engineer to update to the latest version of the firmware, that is a bonus!
You can actually send MIDI clock from a DJM 900 to Traktor, however it is completely unstable because the BPM counter is constantly fluctuating and anytime you try to trigger an effect it resync's Traktors MIDI clock. Hopefully this will improve because it would make for a great combination of Traktor and Pioneer products. Reading your comment made me buy an ethernet hub so I can experiment with Rekord Box, Traktor and the DJM 900. I'll let you know if I find a workaround for you.
Yes, if you're playing back to back with another DJ who is using CDs, USB Drives, or Ethernet link, just hit "Link" on the CDJ when you want to play your track in Traktor, then he hits "CD, USB etc" when he wants to play his track and it will be a seamless transition. If he's using the ethernet link (LINK), hit the back button to select control mode when you want to play your tracks.

If you're using the CDJs as the soundcard for Traktor, and one of the cables comes unplugged, the sound will stop. If you plug the USB cable back in, it will take about 3 seconds for the music to come back on. Also if you have a bad USB cable, this could be a part of the problem as well. Of course there's other obvious reasons like having a bad file, someone hit the stop button or cue button as well. My personal recommendation is to use a separate soundcard, and the CDJs as controllers only.
If you are using the CDJs as a soundcard you can easily switch between controlling Traktor (by hitting the link button) and using the USB drive (by hitting the USB button) or CD (by clicking "disc"). You will not get a pause in audio. So basically you could share the same CD player with another DJ and go back to back Traktor vs. Thumb Drives, both going into the same channel on the Mixer! Great right?
Actually it is. You just plug in with USB and hit the link button and it works straight away. But this video is for those who want to be thorough and make sure all of their stuff is up to date and are using the latest and greatest.
You don't have to update firmware usually. The only time I've had a problem and had to update the firmware was when I was using an old CDJ 900 that didn't have the Advanced HID option in the utilities. I just carry around a thumb drive with me that has the firmware update files. However, if you can update the firmware at soundcheck or have the club do it in advance, thats a bonus. If not, you can get away with using old firmware as long as there is the Advanced HID option in the utilities.
If your using the CDJs as a soundcard (with the 2+ CDJs aggregated) and one CD comes unplugged the sound will stop until you plug the USB back in. However if your using something like the DJM 900 as the soundcard and the USB comes unplugged from the CDJ then the sound will keep going. You can just plug the CDJ back in and it will work as a controller again.
Yup, just download the Aggregator. You don't need any drivers for the CDJ on Mac. You do however need to download the drivers for the CDJs if your running windows.

But ya i agree, if the new 2000s dont have advanced HID it would be quite a shame...well i guess ill have to wait for the HID support to buy a pair then...till then im gonna keep using my maschine. BEST CONTROLLER EVER
Yes it will work on Traktor Pro or Traktor Scratch Pro version 2.6 and above (2.6.1 and above for CDJ 2000 Nexus')

You can do this with Traktor Pro 2 as well as Traktor Scratch Pro 2. You just have to be on the latest version of Traktor Pro 2 (above two point five point one)

The whole point of this video is so you do all the prep work in advance, and when you show up at the club everything is plug and play.
Yes, Traktor setups are completely modular. You can use the CDJs to control Decks A & B (via USB), and you can plug in your F1 via USB to control any of the remix Decks. You can also plug in the MIDI fighter as well. I believe this is USB as well. Just get yourself a powered USB and you can plug in as many controllers as your USB hub can handle! Have fun!

I have a few points ( a couple of which may of been cleared up below but I missed them), if you can answer these my mind will be at rest before I decide to use this as future performance choice.
1- Do you have to aggregate / re create the single audio card setting at every venue / CDJ that you will use or can you do this at home and it will work universaly on every CDJ2000 and venue?
2- If you do have to agregate your sound card at each venue will this effect the other person performing on the same set up?
3- Do you have to have each CDJ plugged in to contol them or will one USB (into the back of deck A) be enough to control A,B,C,D using the link / network capability on the CDJs?
Any answers would be brilliant hope my questions make sense.
Correct. If your using the CDJ 2000 Nexus there is no option for Advanced HID Mode since they are already set up for Advanced HID when you buy them.

My personal opinion, I love using the DJM 900 because of the effects but the sound quality of the Xone is always way superior.

Endo bro, i will play next week out of my town. Never played like that before. I just want to connect the usb cables, make all those configurations and play with the cdjs connected to the mixer only by Audio cables. Is that possible? I dont have an external soundcard
It purely depends on weather or not the CDJ's are kept up to date. Depending on the model and the firmware they are running they may need to be updated to at least the minimum to support this mode. As long as you have your computer and traktor set up and ready for CDJ's on the most current firmware then everything should be fine, assuming the CDJs have the most current firmware. I would at least put in your rider the necessity for the most current firmware for the CDJ's.
Actually Pioneer gave me that gear so I can train some of the top Traktor artists like Victor Calderone, Lee Burridge, Sasha, Danny Tenaglia etc. on the new setup ;-) I can party rock on any kind of setup.
Yes exactly you will get the sound quality of the CDJs soundcard.
Hold down the browse knob on the CDJ for 3 seconds and it will take you to the screen where you can re-select the deck.
You don't need to update firmware in the club usually unless the club has the original model of CDJ 2000's which don't have advanced hid mode installed with the firmware. So I had two options when making this video. 1) Make it simple (which it is) but risk that certain things will go wrong and people won't know how to solve the problem or 2) Give people all the information they need so they can troubleshoot any issues. I went with option #2.
I would suggest checking the USB Cable, and also update the firmware on the CDJ and update to the latest version of Traktor, then tell me if your still having problems.
Well, all CDJ 2000 Nexus CD players don't have to have the firmware updated. They are updated automatically. Most of the time the CDJ 2000's and 900's are ok without updating the firmware, but its good to know how to update the firmware in case you need to. Also the older models might be set to standard HID and not advanced, so its good to know how to change this as well. If you guys only knew how long I had to wait on the phone w tech support w pioneer and NI to figure all of this out.
You don't have to update the firmware usually with CDJs. Most of the time you can just have the audio configured, roll up to the club, plug in and play. BUT there is sometimes the issue that they have some of the first CDJ 2000's and never updated the firmware so advanced HID Mode might not be installed. This is rare, but definitely happens. This is why I showed how to update the firmware in the video. Also if the tracks are jumbled, you need to turn on advanced HID in the utilities.
All you have to do to switch from a Traktor DJ (in advanced HID Mode) to a CDJ or thumb drive DJ is hit "CD" on the CD Player. Done. Or if they are using thumb drive's just hit the back button until you can select your thumb drive and then you'll be good to go. Just do it on the deck thats NOT playing live

The CDJ 2000's are usually all set up for Advanced HID Mode as well but you sometimes need to switch the HID mode setting to Advanced. Sometimes if they are really old, you need to update the firmware of the CDJs, but this is rare. I only put this section in so you guys get all of the facts and knowledge you'll need for battle!
I would recommend using the mixer as the soundcard and the CDJs as a controller. You can plug the CDJs into a USB hub this way, so you have the mixer (DJM 900 Nexus) plugged into one usb port and the USB hub plugged into the other USB hub.
with only 2 connection to the 2 CDJs we can control the mixer also right?, same in the case like USB,?
@@vishnumv899 if you're using the CDJs as soundcards AND controllers then you can use only two USB cables. If you're using the mixer as the soundcard you would need a third USB cable.

As far as I know, the Pioneer CDJs are the only model of CDJs that have advanced HID integration with Traktor.
Yes part one shows you how to set up the soundcard configuration and update the firmware on your CDJs. Part 2 will be the fun stuff on how to use the CDJ in HID mode with Traktor. While this might be a bit dry, you'd be surprised how many clubs I go to that have firmware thats YEARS old. DJs feel free to put this video in your tech rider so sound engineers know how to update their gear properly before you show up at the gig!
I selected Pioneer CDJ as audio device, but at output routing external i can only selected Front Left, Front Right. Pls help me DJ Endo.
me too, but for some reason the CDJ worked along with the software on the laptop just fine (or seemed to work). maybe endo can enlighten us on this

Currently the CDJ 2000 Nexus CDJ's do not support Advanced HID. That is what my manager at Native Instruments told me anyways. I'm not sure what the full story is here, but I will keep you all posted. It would be a damn shame if Pioneer didn't support advanced HID on their new CDJs...

If you're on mac, you don't need to download the drivers for the CDJs. Windows you will have to download the drivers for the newer CDJs. You can select your soundcard in preferences - audio setup. See my video above for more details on how to configure your audio preferences and use the CDJ aggregator. Alternatively you can use an external soundcard like the DJM 900 or Audio 8 DJ and still use the CDJs as controllers.
o.O now i just catch that when doing this ,,it using the Sound Card of relevant CDJ..so the audio gets the quality of the CDJs soundcard quality...?
So do I just go ahead and buy Traktor to make this happen? Or would I just be able to buy an affordable Traktor controller like the F1 and can use Traktor through that ?

I do have 1 question though please, i.e. how do I setup and configure the preview player in Traktor when I have used the aggregator and HID mode ?
I understand that in the external mode I must choose the channels but unsure what or how to go about setting it up for the preview player as I don't wish the sound to go out on the master.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this ?
I used serato for 3 years, never crashed or froze. I use tractor now because I prefer the effects & the X1 controller. Where I play out locally I use my cdj2000's because the backup usb always comes in handy when Traktor crashes EVERY TIME I play. Weather it freezes, or just stops, something always goes wrong with it. For the past year my macbook air would crash every time I plugged in the audio 8 dj, it took tractor till now to fix this problem.
The X1 controller doesn't work with the set up above using a usb hub (if your machine only has 2 x usb ports) it just doesn't work, tried this with my apple & sony vaio laptops, both brand new. Traktor also doesn't work properly when you're switching between timecode & normal cd's, when you put a normal cd in, it tries to analyse it & goes into spazz....
It feels like every weekend I'm tryi& yes, i have downloaded the latest drivers........ absolute shite, TRAKTOR SHOULD MAKE THIS THING STABLE BEFORE MAKING 1,000,000,000 USELESS EFFECTS THAT 99.9% OF DJ'S DON'T USE RIGHT.
I'm off to by an Allen Heath DB2 mixer so I can do without all this shite!
I have used Traktor years without it EVER crashing. Maybe the problem is actually in your computer and/or you.
I've been hearing reports that Traktor crashes when connecting 1 CDJ at a time, as if you were playing after a DJ using CDs. Can you recreate this? It seems like a fundamental flaw as it would be useless in a club.

Hi Endo, I'm really interested in this setup but I have one question. Do you have to do all this updates and firmwares for the cdj's when I arrive at a club? Or can you just have the latest update in traktor and have the audio settings ready for the cdj's to connect to the mac. Thanks.
Dear Endo, what if the dj who is playing before me is using thumb drives and i need to set up traktor hid mode on the fly? It is possible to connect both cdjs to the mac, run the agregator, then run traktor and link just one cdj and then after the other dj finish link the other cdj that was playing from a usb stick? This connection sequence doesn't crash traktor or interrupt the link communication?

I want to download the drivers for several models of cdjs, the 2000s, 900s and the 1000 mk3 will I be able to load them all into traktor and choose easily which one I want to use when I am out playing?
Is it possible to do this without doing anything to the cdj's except plugging in the usb cable? For example, when playing at a gig, you can't just turn the machines off and on before you start playing.
Ofcourse, you update your drivers before the gig.
