M81 is my jam it works great in the ozarks year round mainly run ranger green with m81 accents in summer swap out bottoms for a chocy chip or old acu in fall blends in good the m81 accents help blend with natural shadows
Gotta be careful with some of the surplus though. At the time of introduction, we didn't fully understand NIR so there is actual gear that was made that wasn't compliant, and guys did get their cammies dry cleaned and starched. This was also the around the time where we briefly considered ditching night vision entirely for all thermal... New production stuff is great (if it's NYCO), but even the cheap 100% cotton garments do really good.
love woodland .. even though not the best camo it is the best statement.. after it is worn an extended time it is probably the best camo.. loved the video brother
I was part of the VERY FIRST ISSUE of Woodland Camo. The surprise was it was based on EUROPEAN Woodlands. It's what we were told by our drill sergeant's
As Randbrown140 said M81 BDU was issued to fight in Europe against the Soviets. I still like it better than the newer stuff, ie MultiCam. Multicam tends to glow in the dark European woodlands. No one camo does it all. Ialso like the BDU's better than the current style. Nice Video!
Funny - I just left a paragraph on your short quip about the critics! I also plugged for M81 as the best all around 'go-to' color and pattern for the woods. I have found that a 'bit faded' tone works best - not so dark like fresh issued BDUs were. Lookin' good out there 'Scout'! BTW - brown leather boots stick out too - especially 'bloused'! Genuine issue M81 woodland pattern is indeed getting damn difficult to acquire (and not just clothing). When you do find it on eBay or at a small surplus shop (made out of bricks and smells funny) you're going to need 'gold' to buy it! It is still being made (likely never die) by well known clothing brands but materials and fit vary quite a bit as they aren't required to stay within military specs. You'll need to take some chances to 'get it right'. I found years ago I could no longer fit in my issued sets...gave to my nephews for hunting and Airsoft outings.
@@SurvivalScout2024 Me too for the most part. Just recently chased down 'like new' ALICE pack with a great straight frame (medium was issued in woodland - not large) and an 'unissued' LBV-88E. Authentic ALICE is really getting scarce. I've heard Vietnam War era 'reenactor groups' are really taking off and that could be one reason although ALICE was issued just at the end. Fortunately the 'ugly kid' UCP pattern works for me to some extent (I paint over when necessary) and it's still plentiful. So I roll with woodland and UCP for Arizona's diverse landscapes.
I love woodland camouflage Scout. It may not be the best. But it does brake you up. And is the king of cost a. It getting harder to find. The good stuff. Lol. Great vid bro. Cheers 🍻
@@bugoutbrad8395 I've literally seen someone make a Midwest ghillie suit by buying an ACU uniform and tying white plastic bags from grocery stores onto it to help break up his outline. Actually worked extremely well for winter time
IMO modern camos like Multicam are too light, bright, and micro for most "Yankee" forests; it blobs out during the spring, summer, fall. M81 is a good combo of medium green/brown and macro enough to blend into the darker trunks and leaf shadows. Finnish M05 is similar, but M81 is still relatively cheap to acquire the basics (getting harder). Plus, is there anything more drip than a 90's Navy Seal covered in M81? It just can't be touched :D
Just a side note...brown leather gloves with M81 stick out like a sore thumb 💀
Great video. Woodland just works.

I’ve checked out a lot of my gear and most of it is pretty descent under IR and some packs my PALS webbing sticks out. Great points brother!
M81 worn along with Desert Camo, a.k.a. the hardest the US military has ever dripped in existence
