Good vid Trev. I used grain of wheat to replace the bulbs in mine. I'm not an LED fan, but those looked close to original. Yamaha was an understated classy look. Plain maybe, but not gawdy like the technicolor marantz for instance. Still look clean today IMO.
Thanks, One of the main advantages of LED retrofits is power savings and running cooler. I see a lot of meters that have been cooked by the lamp behind it. I'm trying to stop the damage
I buy all my caps in volume for huge discounts so for this receiver, all parts including transistors came in at just under $40 If you were buying single quantities the price goes up, prob by 25-50%
I successfully replaced most of the capacitors on my Pioneer 747 Quad, i poered up and no magic smoke😊 but one of the small pots for the right rear speaker? It's the one thats next to the oscilloscope thing. So i will have to buy a replacement is there a certain wattage i need to get? Its 500k Ohm B2 potentiometer. Thank you.
Every single Yamaha receiver in the CR-x20 series from that era that I've worked on (10-15 units) had spits in the plastic bushings on those selector switches. I am beginning to wonder if they came like that from the factory.
that nylon plastic is actually shrinking with age. If its installed on a brass bushing like here it cracks. lots of cassette decks use this style of plastic on metal bushings causing failures.
OK, so normally I do everything I can to avoid the whole "capacitor topic" in general... but when I heard you say that "film capacitors changing the sound BS" I was genuinely surprised. This is a topic that I ALSO have a tremendous amount of experience with, and they do in fact have a noticeable affect on sound quality. Of course, the application and placing in circuit of said capacitor has a large influence on how MUCH difference there is.
Hmmmmmmmm, structural support and a Ground. Not a good sign when FM alignment VU drifts when turned off, I see this is corrected at final test. Bias at 8MLV when most are at 30MLV, agreed. I do like that digital Heat gun you got there. I have this FM Tuner and needs to be in a well lit area, those 3 red lights at end are so bright they stand out like a 3 beacons. They do ok when it comes to FM Reception, Pioneer, Kenwood and Sansui do much better.
Trevor is at 9.4k subscribers…on his way to 10k! C’mon!!!

I have a cr-820 on my bench atm. Nice coincidence! Knew about the grounding "issue" already, hehe.
Excellent work as always!!
Thanks for this currently working on the same one, this helped tons! I’m learning as I go
That was a good one you did on listing the transistors. I like that way better than the 'naughty list', although also a LOT of work.
Hi Trevor, this is invaluable to me as a new learner. What do you estimate a rough total cost is to buy all the replacement caps? Thank you.

@@TrevorsBench thank you! Great channel.

Hye Trevor, what kind of paste or glu do you use to hold the caps in place ?
Neutral cure silicone
Thank you !@@TrevorsBench
Thanks!
Merci
i had the 150wpc version of that model in 1985,forget model number
The inside of the CR-820 is much less packed than the CR-800.
yes could see that crack !!
the meters would look way better with blue LED's
Seriously, I was thinking of putting in UV LEDs. That would make the needles glow orange
@@TrevorsBench that be cool too

First! 👍
I have that receiver, I like it.
@@SDsailor7It was a pleasure to listen to. The owner picked it up yesterday and I'll miss it
@@TrevorsBench Yes. It is a nice receiver. I bought it at a thrift store for a $100 bucks several years back.
