Man this takes me back. I was involved as an alpha tester starting with game version 0.8.4 around June 2011. A busy evening would see maybe six other people on line, ha.
tbf, flask spam in POE is pretty different than in other games. we only do it because our flasks have so many different uses. in other ARPGs flasks are just a single heal button you can use over and over
As an old player of Diablo and Diablo 2, I awaited Diablo 3 with great anticipation. However, the more development footage that became available, the less impressed I became with D3. In fact, a UA-camr I was following at the time, Force Strategy Gaming, did some early coverage of Path of Exile at the same time he covered D3, resulting in me not even bothering with D3. I've been "in exile" ever since, grateful for that alternative to what Diablo became. I look forward to Path of Exile 2, and many more years of expanded content. =^[.]^=
Lovely to hear, fellow exile. Force Strategy Gaming is actually most of the "good" closed beta footage available. If you sub, you'll see A LOT of it in next week's video on the beta era of PoE :)
Not many people remember that PoE skills system based on runes was originally planned to be implemented in Diablo 3 but after testing they decided it was too complicated and they simplyfied it to the ground. Thats why different skill versions are called "runes". One of the worst decisions made by D3 game designers.
Looking back I gotta say that Sacred (and Sacred 2) were pretty great. IDK if they were "diablo killers" (probably not), but they definitely were innovative and genuinely good ARPGs. I've spent ridiculous amount of hours playing both of them and I have no regrets about that.
lov seeing the old timey graphics and mechanics, we really are spoiled at this point :) hope the devs take all the time they think they need to develop their 2.0.
Haven't really been a fan of the past few leagues but I am looking forward to PoE2 to alternate with D4. Hoping we find out some cool stuff this summer about its future.
Great video! But maybe you need to change that white screen flashbang transition, it is really annoying. Keep it going and looking forward to the next episode!!
In germany physical games magazines would usually come with some free games included on disk during the 2000's - thats how i got my hands on Sacred. Absolutely loved that game, and even today i still load it up occasionally. I only got to try out diablo 2 later and back then it just felt clunkier than sacred to me so i never got into it. For me Sacred will always be that one game where it all started, rather than diablo, and even thou i love PoE and am looking very much forward to PoE2, i will never stop waiting for a true modern sequel to Sacred (fingers crossed that THQ nordic eventually will revive that franchise after they bought it)
Although it's not unique in the world of gaming, and it has been repeated many times before, I think the free to play aspect with the cosmetics-only microtransactions is the main reason why PoE became successful. Combined with the continuous updates and new (league) mechanics, it has become an absolute powerhouse of a F2P. This is also the reason (for me) why a lot, lot of flak about certain nerfs (insert your gripe with the game here) should be taken seriously, but the player should always remember that they only CHOSE to pay for this game. I don't want to get negative because it takes away from your video, but I have seen and read the entitlement of players over the years. 'Because I played this game for years and I am invested' is not a good enough reason to throw Chris Wilson and co under the bus. I put around 1000 hours into PoE over the last 9 years, and this throwback drives home why I always came back to try a new league. Thanks, and I will check out your next one!
i remember 1st time playing poe. my char lvl up and i open the skill tree, i was like wtf! i play it slowly, i was scared that something gonna jump on me XD (i played D2 before). even i dont reach mapping in my 1st league XD. as the time pass by, i go on and off from poe, but there is something diff in poe that make me comeback play it again, std or league. last but not least: hey christ! where is my damn Mirror of Kalandra?
4:30 and where exactly are these meaty legs of the Diablo 2 endgame? Baal runs? Pit runs? PvP? C’mon, d2 endgame was weak af, and justifiably so, still a 10/10
The only thing i want from poe is a leauge where they just focused on quality of life changes. I'm annoyed that you have to download so many third party apps just to function in this game. I'd really like it if GGG can also add more info to skills and what affects those skills especially for new players. For example, righteous fire is categorized as a "spell", and while it is true to a certain degree, it should really be categorized under as "buff" and therefore does not benefit any modifier that has "spell increased". the only way someone will ever know this is if they are told by someone else or seek the answer on the google - but again, how would a new player know what to look for if its missed categorized? Surely if it says "spell" then any spell modifier should work right? No. Its these little things that becomes big things REALLY fast and its these things that deters players from playing for the most part. I know it deterred a lot of my APRG friends because either it requires more effort in downloading third party apps, or how little information is given to the player from items and spells. It would be nice for them to overhaul their system to make it more friendly and less alt-tabbing. Quality of Life changes IS A MUST and something GGG has been lacking since its release.
I have a feeling history will repeat itself. Diablo 4 will launch, people will be disappointed as they realise it's problems in the long run (meaning more than an act 1 weekend beta) and then POE will come to the save again.
We live in a society where rotten minded redditors that don't even play the game will held it hostage from the game's develper, a society which regards an opinion as right or wrong not by how it represents reality but what it makes the one seeing it feel. Everyone agrees the game is bloated and too powercreeped, yet everytime a solution is presented they will cry because they have nerfed the players again, we live in a society in which a modicum of error will be met by a disproportionate negative response, we live in a society in which POE's develpoment is challenged in every step, not only by the competition, but by a part of playerbase too, the most dreadful, loud and obnoxious part. So I will say this again and again, let Chris cook and shut the fck up. Now that was the most unhinged comment I could come up with in a single sitting, it does have some kernels of what I really think but its mostly exaggerated, like the complain reddit posts. Cheers and nice video.
most people don´t know why diablo 3´s auction house was removed, by the time they decided to remove it, chinese gold farmers had acumulated gold amounts equal to billions of US $, but blizzard would take 10-25% of all of this transactions every time a player decided to cash out? it was a round bussiness for blizzard so why would they just suddenly stop? Well because if given 2-3 more months it would be used as a money laundering device, this businesses could literally pay for illegal services anywhere in the world with diablo 3 currency and slowly cash out by selling the gold to US citizens leaving no footprint of transactions between the parties, just blizzard payments and of course taking 25% of the proceeds would make blizzard both enabler and criminally liable if they allowed this to happen. Imagine blizzard employees having to cooperate with law enforcement everytime a large gold transaction was made, or thousands of small ones, Im surprised they took so long to figure out this and they never bothered explaining the playerbase how royally fkd up the idea was in the first place.
@@wowbaboonas there is no need for a tin hat, you can google search for cases the fbi is having to get involved with blizzard during the time the rmt ah was available and you will quickly notice how 1+1=2 You just seem to narrow minded or stupid to perform a simple google search.

You're good at what you do, the presentation and delivery is on point.
You got the potions thing wrong. No one in POE fills their whole inventory with flasks, which is what Chris was talking about.
That makes sense! The terminology was probably different back then, but I definitely hogged pots in D2 when I was younger.
