Man im really enjoying your videos. I just found your channel this week. Really nice work with the last two videos. I play PoE over 6 years now but never knew about the origin of PoE. Just want to thank you you and keep up the nice videos :D
Watching these flashbacks make you realise how far PoE has come & exciting to see where it's going as well, can't wait for exilecon! Another great video Tri!
not gonna lie, i really miss the early days of poe. where 30kdps with facebreaker was nuts and i had to partially reschedule my life to partake in races like endless ledge for some beautiful alt art items.
I started playing right when A3 came out and have never left this game. Even when I get burned sometimes, I can always go back to it. Eternal Pack was the first pack I bought and that was money well spent. One thing i really wish would come back though is alternate art unique races and cutthroat races. i'd be spending many MANY more hours playing.
the first set of leagues also did something that I don't think poe has done since then, which is disabling certain item drops. Eye of chayula and Kaoms heart being disabled back then was a big deal since chayula was the only way to prevent stun on ci characters past getting unwavering stance while the viability of life characters back in the day was balanced around being able to get kaom's heart, which made the game alot harder for said life characters. Also reave was insanely buggy at launch and could miss enemies even when you had RT allocated.
I'm loving this series! Whatta blast of nostalgia! So much was happening all along that I missed noticing a lot of these developmental details (or forgot them), so this is a valuable chronicle of PoE's evolution. Keep 'em coming! =^[.]^=
I started playing PoE relatively late (first try in Warbands/Tempest, really started playing in Legacy) but man I kinda really dig those older graphics/color palette. It just looks so grimy and down to earth, not overly blown out and cartoony. Edit: skills look better now, though.
been around since paid beta. d2 USED to be my all time favorite game, people quickly overtook it. the early days were so much fun, discovering mechanics as they werent datamined, 30k dps with facebreakers was nuts, a constant race schedule with in game alternate art items as rewards.. everything was just child like wonder. things really started to become a big number = good build around when tencent got involved. numbers have always been important, but that was the time where it started to get us on the path that we are now. not that i hate it, its just different. i do hope that if ggg ever closes door, they release the files for you to be able to do offline ssf for the folks that really want it. so many good online only games that we've fully lost. but i hope we never come to that, and that the team at ggg continues to grow financially and technically. 5k usd down, over 10k hours sunk... i dont regret a singly penny nor second played. poe still continues to be my all time favorite game.
@@phinguyen6399 when it drops, actually just slightly before it.. gonna do a full media blackout for poe content.. let myself discover it again rather than getting it spoiled/datamined. gonna be a blast!
I'd like to see them finally buff the Bandits again, I guess they might get replaced in PoE 2 regardless but I'd say 99% of the time 2 passives is an unbeatable reward, and the other 1% you pick Alira.
I played during the closed beta for a few weeks; it was great. I picked up POE again a few years ago and was surprised at how modern it felt (well, apart from their website lol), and I've played most league since. I like GGG's ethos which I hope continues well into PEO2.
great vid, this is why PoE is so liked by fans. Built from the ground with D2 to start from, fans obv liked it and supported it, they delivered, we are still playing it because there's still something to back to and look forward to. D3 and later D4 were built on investment by shareholders, serving one goal: bigger return of investment
Thank you for this. I remember beta early days.. I still to this day feel Path is very much the Almost 3d version of Magic the gathering. or at least what i feel is the closest it can get.
Nice Videos. I really love this summary of poe development. Thank you. Could you number the episodes in the video title? It would be easier to keep track of the order.
I had to look up when I first played PoE, August 2013... I remember very little about my time with the game. At the time, the game that was my life was Battlefield 3. I remember playing and not knowing how to do anything, and I think I quit because it was hard AF and I still had my bias towards Diablo (like the one I had on Minecraft being better then Terraria that, in the end, I played more Terraria than I ever played Minecraft... haha). I returned to PoE again years later, I think synthesis was just about to end. Since then I play on and off.
PoE 2 being a massive expansion is ok for me, since i play and will play PoE anyways But i think this is bad for new players, some parts of PoE are very bad, the UI for example, it feels old, so this will need to be changed PoE 2 is already at least 5 years in the making, i'm pretty sure it's a whole new game, i hope
it's gonna be a whole new game, there are so many new and different mechanics that it is impossible it's gonna be an expansion, starting from the two new classes (where do you put them?) to the new gem system. Cool video but very click-bait
Are you telling the history of Poe how it evolved from a straightforward arpg to a gargantuan mess of confusing mechanics which so complicated now it’s scary to even try if you aren’t doing it full time?
I will never forget when they put Dominus in the game and he just killed everyone cause the Rain was op as fuck and u would die instantly to this day i am still scarred of the rain and the words touch of god :D
Ruthless has that Open beta feel but with a better endgame. Atm its still a bit rough around the edges, but I believe it will improve with every league.
Thanks to your vid, looking now on poe 2 they showed it looks like copy 1:1 Diablo 4... If it will look just like D4 - no explosions, dynamic ect... Poe will fall hard
It's not possible ro be a copy of something that didn't exist yet. D4 would be the copy. The poe2 footage shown was from 2019. Appearance is secondary to the game mechanics anyway, have you played path of exile past the tutorial story yet?

@@KareemFloat 3.13 was good, and after were nerfs... But some needed like party abuse players
Kripp was also responsible for regular 3 months leagues. Chris said in the GDC talk they owed a lot for that idea.
look back at these moments, make me felt that i grew up together with PoE.

This series of videos are so good man, the nostalgia hits hard with all these old clips. Keep it up!
Damn.. Another sick video.. You're doing a huge PR work for GGG.
Man I started playing when it was 2 acts and Vaal was the last boss. It’s nuts how far it’s come
I have the gold kiwi and was a proud closed beta player myself!
Yeah, I upgraded from Silver. Love my Gold Kiwi, but I have always regretted not going back and buying another Silver Supporter Pack, too. =-[.]-=
Seeing those old clips and where the game is today. What an evolution
you deserve a subscription with all the old videos you put together
great job on this series , this is amazing
Thank you so much! I'll be able to finish it before PoE 2 launches, looks like ;)

Thank you for such a long and informative material. I was not around PoE early days. So this is very precious material for me. Definitely subbed!

Even after all these years, i still feel bummed when killing Piety now gives only 1 passive point. Also really missing those old loading screen arts.
I only started playing during covid and I really like these videos that elucidate poe's history.
You should make a video about poe’s economy, like how chaos became the main currency for trading, exalted and divines
Love this idea! Added to the spreadsheet ;)
I started playing when the act 3 boss had just dropped, i never realised that must have been the beginning of the open game :O
I just want... the old school PoE back... back in the day was simple but hard to master... now its hard to master what is simple if its not the meta
I remember farming western forest for xp and currency and those lagfest PA archer builds. Ah memories.
seeing this old version of poe is filling me with an urge to pester the team for legacy servers
Ooh, I like this. Someone should ask Chris at Exilecon so he can say the legendary line.

Shout-out to Kamil Orman-Janowski for the PoE soundtrack. So good I listen to it in other games! 😅

Might be 'Hopium' but I think they're gonna do the big hype up at exile con and at the end say "its ready go play it"

unless wilson is fired it's going to flop just like current garbage poe flopping out.

and some idiots have the guts to compare the legend poe with the garbage diablo lol
