    last year this time i was a complete mess
    there were times when I had thought of putting an end to this life but John happened in my life

      You can only thank God for a man existing. For we have no say in our existence, only in how we spend our life, and we will be judged fairly and justly. Not by a jury if our peers, not by the current moral majority. But by the force that created us.

    I just had to say something here.First, I am 52 YO and like most guys my age. I have spent most of my life listening to "Classic Rock" That is not to say I don't listen to anything else. This is far from the truth. I like Rock, Blues, Country, Classical, R & B, Funk, Pop etc. But I have to say that "Classic Rock" is my favorite. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix the list could go on. When I first heard Red Hot Chili Peppers I liked them. But only as a small degree of listening. I bought Blood Sugar sex Magic when it was first released. I have not bought any other albums since that first one. Because of the dynamics of the band most of my attention was directed to Anthony Kiedis and Flea. I really never gave much notice to John. That was my first mistake. I have recently started playing guitar (Imagine someone my age learning to play) But since starting my new musical journey have read a lot about John's playing. But I really did not do any real listening. That was my second mistake. A few days ago I came upon a UA-cam video of John playing and singing an old Bee-Gees song. (How Deep Is Your Love) I posted a comment about how much I enjoyed his playing and singing on this song. Someone responded with a comment stating I should listen to John's solo albums. I never knew he had done any solo work. Well I have spent the last few days listening to nothing but John Frusciante's solo albums and just have to say one thing. WOW!!!! I wish I had listened to these albums years ago. I do not know when this album was released but it is my favorite. After writing this I am going to listen to all the "Live" recordings I can find. I wish I could remember the guy who first told me to listen to John's solo albums so I can tell him or her how much this "Experience" has meant to me. Music has always been a very important part of my life. John Frusciante is without a doubt one of the GREATEST musicians I have ever heard. I will put him up there with Hendrix and Page and Gilmour. He is truly one of a kind.

    This definitely resonates to those who have gone through a spiritual awakening blended in with an ego death……
    Some people discover this emotion and awareness through drugs, some through meditation, some through trauma but it’s an experience we can all sort of interpret through this music and it’s both bitter sweet that only a small amount of humans understand this level and depth of consiousness.

      It's off the depend. It reminds me of how John Lennon was off the deep end but McCartney brought his dippy do-da sensibilities to clean it up. I think Frusciante could use a collaborator like this.

      That's overlooking a lot of music. Actual music.

    • @jeffTcorbin81
      @jeffTcorbin81 9 місяців тому

      @@FathomlessJoy I totally get what you're saying. But there definitely are some very special *aspects (for lack of a better word) within this album that put it on its own level in a way. I'm not saying its better than anything in particular. I try not to waste too much time ranking music. But there is definitely some very special factor at play with the Empyrean. It's weird, you might not be in love with every part of this album, or every song. But with the right frame of mind (and the right kind of ears) in the right type of surroundings this album can recharge/heal you in ways far beyond what the most modern science, medicine or technology could do. Let alone music..Don't get me wrong, Music in any form can be an amazing healer in many ways. But the Empyrean really does contain some crazy mojo like, magical life force voodoo whatever u wanna call it. I thought it was just me. But then reading comments like these u realize that something really is going on with this album.
      Put on some great sounding headphones, get comfortable. Make sure you will have no distractions for about an hour. Empty your bladder, turn off your phone, tv laptop, all lights. Lay back in a comfortable place and crank it up as loud as you can stand and try your best to get in a sort of meditative state where its its no longer you and your thoughts, but just you and the music. Let go, buy the ticket take the ride. If you are able to do this then @CiaoCapela's comment would actually make a lot of sense. Listen to the full 10 songs. uninterrupted. I suggest not playing songs 11 and 12 while doing this because they were bonus tracks that can kind of distract you from the perfect 10 song masterpiece and how it is supposed to end
      This album has a way of swooping you up , prepared or not, into the type of headspace that my previous paragraph was hopefully aiming you towards. So if you follow those steps i'd be shocked if you still didnt understand after hearing it again like that. And I don't think it is just the music. I believe it has more to do with the energy that was stirring when the songs were recorded. I can't even begin to explain it with words. I've never been a very spiritual person. But at the very least this ablbum will make you question to yourself if maybe you should be
      I probably sound like a crazy person. Don't take my word, try it. Then come back and tell me if you think I am full of it... Or share your experience. It is slightly different for everyone. But from what I have witnessed most people are at the very least in awe when they truly connect with the Empyrean.
      Happy trails

    We spend most of our younger years developing an ego that protects the very things we value the most. Life has a funny way of giving you opportunities (breaking points) where you choose to face the ego, or continue down its paths of isolation from who you really are. Most of us just want to be accepted for the weird person we are. It's a subjective reality.

That was until I really got hung up with RCHP, and John solo albums. The power of his music just elevates me, takes me to a better place. Thing I get from John Frusciante is that he doesn't limit himself in any way, musically, intellectually or emotionally. He never repeats himself because its not in his nature and i will go as far as to say that its not anybody's nature. I watched the interview with John called "The heart is a drum machine" and almost everything he said i could relate to, but the thing that struck me what he said was: "People often put themselves in a box and never go out of it. The music industry and the whole Hollywood machinery basically put the physical appearance in front of everything. People should admire the musician for his imagination because that is what truly represents him. I don't see Hendrix as black or white, tall or short.. I just see the imagination that created beautiful music."
    The one artist i also recommend is Devin Townsend. Check out his albums Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction and Ghost who are all very different and see how you can be true to your creative freedom.

      megaDudeMegaDude Yeah I know, but you can look at it in a positive way: accepting our fate, and making the best of what's left. But I especially notice the music itself, since English is not my native language! I find this soooo beautiful to listen to. This goes beyond music in my opinion...

      casper van helvoirt Absolutely man. Theres so much more to it than just the words being said. Yes we are all going to die. Yes what ever we've contributed to this world may seem insignificant to us, but even the smallest thing has an impact. Leonardo da Vinci left the planet thinking what he gave wasn't enough, he ended up being one of the most remembered names of his time. The thought of death doesn't have to be depressing. Its up to you whether you're going to LET it get you depressed or not

    • @caspervanhelvoirt
      @caspervanhelvoirt 8 років тому +7

      Semba Nkalamo Exactly! I'm kinda living by some of the lines and lyrics of John Frusciante & RHCP. Example *Brendan's Death Song* 'Live my life, so when it's time to die, even the reaper cries'. Wanna get a tattoo of that line when I'm older I think, it very much speaks to me... Get the most out of your life, but above all: Be happy. Be genuine. Love and be loved. Music will bring me there :) Sadly, most of my 'friends' don't really see what I mean, with some of them even laughing at my ideas of life, but lol I know better than them: I'll be happy forever, they won't, really. Then again, I'm just 17, so we all still have to learn a lot in life! :)

      casper van helvoirt Haha yeah i can relate. Its so easy to dismiss the peppers's work as weird sometimes, or john's work as emo and depressing but theres so much beneath the surface that alot of people won't see just because whats outside doesn't seem "pretty' to them. They don't know what they're missing :)

    Because of John I have enjoyed writing and recording my own music. I really enjoy how many songs he has pushed out under his solo name. What is even better is if you listen to any of the albums after Shadows Collide with people. The albums in itself are like stories and are best when you start on track 1/page 1 and sit back, listen, and really enjoy all the tracks/pages as they come in order like a novel. What is even better is music is like having your favorite story read to you by your soul mate or lover or someone you wish was your lover.

    Perfect piece of genius art. The first song is titled "before the Beginning" the last song (minus the bonus tracks) titled "After the Ending" and the very middle of the album is "Central". Along with that, there's "Enough of Me" and "One More of Me" that if you play them simultaneously they are in perfect time together. Just a well put together piece that seems legendary and is made by a god itself Mr.John Anthony Frusciante. Along with all that a great Tim Buckley cover! BRAVO X Infinity!

    John, man, your music is so simple and complex at the same time. Seems like everything you create is coming from a Greater inspiration. I like many musics, groups and musicians, I try to be open minded on Music. But yours, man, your music is special. It's in another dimension. You are above "personal taste", above styles, above formalism and cliches. If you are like your music is, you gotta be freakin awesome and wise
    Please keep being so inspired and so creative, thanks for all

      +severin 77 best comment, you described it perfectly. First John album I heard was The Will to Death and it's stuck with me for years, still one of my favorites along with To Record Only Water for Ten Days and Inside of Emptiness because of their listenability whereas Curtains and the Empyrean are more special in my opinion and I always try to listen to them start to finish when the mood hits me. All of his other albums in my opinion don't quite hit that same emotional mark but sometimes I watch parts of the VPRO interview and listen to Niandra Lades (usually high as fuck) and that always gets me too. Idk his words hit a place inside of me that make me just sit down and think about my life/hopes/failures and no other music has ever come close to doing that to me. John is almost a spiritual figure to me through his music and words, nothing compares.

      are feelings simple? Since his music on this album is all feeling, that's the big question. Music is as complex as it is to understand the feelings being potrayed, not the understanding of notes, octaves nor triads! However, the first track is all in the scale of E and very 'learnable', as I can now play it note for note by myself.....with my 2018 Fender Strat Roadhouse Deluxe combined with my 1972 SoundCity valve amp and delay pedal!
      Do yourself a favor if you don't already, and pick up and learn an instrument! It is bloody rewarding, and in a way that you are rarely ever rewarded.....you feel proud of yourself, instaid of getting praise from someone else.
      Edit: just to add to what I was saying about understanding music, and the difference between complex arangments and complex arrays of sounds that you have to decompress into feelings...David Gilmour from Pink Floyd can't read sheet music! He writes down small sections of lyrics to remind himself of what comes next while playing live.
      >>>Think about that for just a few seconds, the number 1 voted guitarist on many, many occasions can't even read music! This should be an INSPERATION to all asspiring people who think they aren't or won't ever be good enough to give the world some of their own mind, well I say to that....Use your musical heros as insperation and say "I'm gonna become like that" not "I'll never be as good as that". The world needs as many people as possible to connect with their feelings and continue the great story-telling which is music, this day and age the world bleeds for humans to unite and end all of our bullshit ways of treating each other and the natural world!

    Honestly, possibly the greatest album I've ever heard (right up there with the Pink Floyd classics). What really gets me is no matter how many times I relisten to it it's as mesmerizing as the first. The way it progresses is amazing, the energy it carries from the first chords of the "Before the Beginning" through to "after the ending" is captivating. The thoughts and ideal's expressed are an insight into Frusciante's world-view and, compared to his other albums, brimming with hope and love for the world.
