If local game stores want to profit from Vanguard in a way that also benefits the player base, they need to put in some effort to promote the game. Overpriced promos and terrible ratios shouldn’t be the solution. LGSs need to host game nights and put effort into promo tournaments. Advertise the game on social media and hang posters in the store. If no effort is put into promoting the game then you won’t see profit

I discovered Vanguard back in 2012 because UA-cam recommended me episode 65 of the anime, the final fight between Aichi and Ren in the first season. Despite not knowing what was happening, I still thought the anime was really cool! A few years later I introduced a friend to the game and we would play in the school library, which is where students who played TCGs usually went to. Some people asked what I was playing and I said Vanguard. In that library only one person knew what Vanguard was (besides me and my friend). I was surprised only one person there knew about this game, but I remembered I only knew about the existence of Vanguard by pure chance/luck. Over the years I thought Bushiroad would have put more effort into advertising the game outside Japan so more people would know about it besides stumbling across the anime like I did long ago. As it turns out, they never did put in more effort. So, how do they expect to become the number 1 TCG in the WORLD when they don't even try to bring attention it outside of Japan? The fact that this has been a problem for over a decade and Bushiroad (to my knowledge, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) has never even attempted to resolve it is astonishing, to say the least. The closest I think people could argue is Cardfight Online, but unfortunately that died before it even began so the only ones who knew that existed were already fans of Vanguard. But I truly believe that if CFO was not abandoned that Vanguard probably would have caught more mainstream attention. I really hope whatever Bushi has planned soon for Vanguard involves getting more eyes on the game. Sorry if this comment feels really long (to whoever is reading this), I just really love Vanguard and wish to see it grow and rise up in popularity around the world.

Right !! They have a golden goose in Cardfight Vanguard with an Anime to promote it, good game mechanics, fun gameplay
And yet are too fucking stupid to focus mostly if not solely on it's GLOBAL growth. Developp an international digital interface. Reach out to LGS, and I mean ALL and ANY LGS. No point in the game growing if a guy in a small towin in Idaho has no one to play with, and simply is buying for collection and consuming media around the IP.
People shouln't have to drive miles to get to a town with a LGS that has a VG community for christ's sake !
Languages: How come MTG, YGO and Pokemon all are avaible in over 10 languages and yet Bushiroad is fine with only having EN, KOR and JP. And then has the hubris of "trying to aim for number 1 TCG"
I'm sorry this has turned into a rant. But I'm so fed up with blatant mismanagement of a TCG. If you can't manage TCG properly, sell the IP, and go explore other markets.
I understand to an extent wanting to diversify you're sources of income in a ever fluctuating market. But you don't need multiple IPs in the SAME market. Keep ONE TCG and focus on it !!

The actual funny will be if bushi decides to create a new format or restructures the existing formats. It’s a massive risk that isn’t exactly uncalled for, the players leaving problem if fixed might actually lead to some legit growth.
At this point I’m just so disengaged that all I want is at least the formats to at least have some drama to talk about because it’s so boring. Hell, even premium as interesting as the format gets is getting boring. I just want some massive wave to stir up the excitement again.

Despite all the growth, I can't help but feel disenfranchised as a player with the larger push towards more expensive and exclusive product releases that emphasize more limited quantities of tournament staples. I've lost a ton of income this last year, and Vanguard has quickly become something I can't afford between their increasing MSRPs for new products like their preconstructed deck sets and limited print runs for things like V and P history collection that cause the handful of staples in there like Harmonics Messiah to be insanely expensive despite being designed as a 1 of in most decks. The Dear Days pricing model just further pushes players like me that have less money to spend from doing anything with the game.

The best step for Vanguard to make in order to expand is to gain exposure and accessibility by capitalizing on the casual market (just like Pokémon), by selling product at places like Walmart or Target. Same, a mate invited me to come along to locals and check the game out a few months ago, I forgot the game existed before that. Funnily enough, the LGS is (apparently) the largest Vanguard distributor in Australia. Magic is my main game and has bigger event turnout at a different LGS 3-5 times a week. Maybe they expect the anime viewers to make it all happen? Maybe they think the game is so good that it speaks for itself (or they're aiming that way) so that word of mouth will carry?

Every time Bushi releases a new game it worries me if the game I currently play of theirs is gonna survive. They market within their community instead of outside of it, like I saw zero advertising for Shadowverse outside of regionals and other Bushi games. The way they market games(within their other games) doesn’t make the company more money, players that play multiple of their games simply spread their money among all the games they play, so essentially they make less profit in games they use to.
I’ve played every game they dropped in English, buddyfight(my forever love), Luck & Logic, Dragoborne, OG Vanguard, Vamguard G(soft reboot), Vanguard V(hard reboot), Weiss, Vanguard Overdress, and now Shadowverse. At first when they announced a new game it was exciting, play something new, meeting new people, less luck than Vanguard. Now whenever they announce a new game I’m like oh geez please let the current main game I’m playing survive this.
So I feel how you feel Kris, I pray they learn to focus on what they have and make it as good as Pokémon. If not I hope the games I love at least survive lol

Big things for bushiroad overall id love to see:
    1. Give NA enough man power and time to actually have some pomp and circumstance for their "conferences". A powerpoint presentation does not cut it and they deserve to have the resources to do more
    2. Fix promo distibution and distribution in general because if they really want to push to be a global force we cant keep having promo distribution issues and product delays
    3. Magical christmas land I'd love to see them double the locations for events on the global side because having to drive 8 hours minimum to get to an event sucks. This is mitigated with the online events so they could offer more of those with a path to nationals and I'd be 100% ok with that.
    4. Absolutely do more coverage for events. While i dont think we necessarily need feature matches across the whole tournament id love to see the top cut matches get streamed if possible.
    5. Lowest on the list for a reason but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX DEAR DAY'S PRICING. This is more of a personal gripe and while I 100% support and understand that they need to make money on the game why would i bother spending 70+ on this when ive got physical cards that i want to buy plus other things in my life demanding my paychecks attention? Dear days is cool and I'd love to play it but at the end of the day it's not practical for me to spend 70+ on a game that isnt going to give me an even remotely up to date play experience when i could just boot up TTS with the same people id play dear days with. Online and story mode do add to the worth but only so much.

A commenter here restated that bushi has little control over the price. That’s fair.
What I’m more concerned is that bushi themselves should know of price signaling. There is enough evidence to show the game’s poor sale of late yet refused to drop the game on sale frequently.
Dear days is the partial answer to the secondary market, incentivizing people to try the d series and possibly introduce them to the physical game while not over spending.
However, their pricing model is just shit. If you don’t buy the dlc, nobody is going to play ranked consistently. Why couldn’t they develop more story, get people to be incensitivsed to get the dlc as well. Anywho, if I’m paying 70 for a card game, I best better be getting most of the DLCs as free. They are just pricing the game according to their own, not against other alternatives that gamers would spend on. Why would I spend so much on dlc where I could translate them to many other AAA titles.
They really need to sit down and fix their dear days problem, their model is even worse than Overwatch.

Vanguard could use an official simulator, separate from Dear Days. There are currently little to no Cardfight! simulators, with all of them being fan creations and/or mods on top of other base simulators. I would aim away from a Gacha system, as well, though I doubt this part would be the case, as Bushroad would need a way to make money off it. The simulator could also potentially advocate for cooperative play for the fanbase, including Clan/Nation fights, Clan/Nation trades between members of those nations/clans, and so on.

I wonder what could have stopped from doing history collection ratios as like V collection format, ala 12 clans separated into 2 volumes and having everything be guaranteed 1 copy per booster box, I still prefer that over the current ratios for history col due to apparently them underprinting the harmonics reprint, its 2 per case apparently, which a lot of premium players want either due to the updated text or the nice foiling(the sp one is super neat in foil)
the problems of vanguard overseas currently are:
    1. overpriced af promos that are also staples in the secondary market(my ptsd of twin order v has been revived due to this)
    2. delayed shipping of product and promo that are staples
    3. lack of an official online service where we can play the game that includes all the cards in all formats(dear days is nice but 70 dollar price tag is off putting to most of us and its only supporting the most recent format)
it feels like bushi is trying their best but its hard for me to believe that they actually want to do promo staples where most of V you dont really need those to make your deck good
Ever since i saw elementaria PR/ eva PR/ thegrea PR have been surging in price in overseas like bruh, bushi you can do better than that
I was wondering if I want to change to ygo ocg considering that ocg english is a few months away and i dont mind waiting since they are going to release heroes starter deck one day, but not right now and konami has always been receptive to ocg players in good faith, and they ban stuff that are too strong for the current game.

Yeah, I don’t get the deal with Dear Days’ pricing. Doesn’t seem like its in a position to try and get more people to play whenever their competitors’ IPs have free to play mobile games that are infinitely more accessible and more advertised than any Vanguard media. It seems more like they want whatever’s left of the global community to spend more money to get as much as they can while Japan solely reaps the benefits.

This whole thing seems extremely Japan centric, to catch up the WotC (Magic and D&D). A quick google search shows that Bushi's revenue was 0.34 billion in 2022 while WotC was 5.34 billion (both USD). They'd literally need to 15x to pass them.
Pokemon is big, but locally in Melbourne, AUS, not the size of MtG. Depending on the format, my MtG locals (5 or 6 shops within 20 mins shops) will pull between 20 and 40 people. Pokemon is a bit, but consistently smaller. CFV (1 main shop and 1 other runs it as a side game) maybe gets 10-12 on a good day.

What is more effect in the West feels like no one work on the English side.
    1. Stop making staple promotes for decks it gate keeps players playing that deck. ( I saw the future promotes and it's cool art with cards the ready exits keep on doing that)
    2. Online client ( I want to remind a friend to learn the game easy fun way and accessible for other countries to try the game.)
    3. More Tournaments in the west (Vanguard players need more tournaments to play the game)
    4. Live stream top cut at BCS ( It will get more tcg fans notices the game at a high level)
    5. Bans list (Have some on the English side know our metagame if that is V, S, or P)
I know they won't stop doing this but they can't really do a brand new IP tcg in the West because the shop will not buy their product. After all, Bushiroad has a lot of history where brand-new tcg IP does not last long. If doing a new tcg it has to be Buddy Fight or don't see it being successful in the West. They must be doing brand new IP of tcg that doesn't do well and lose a lot of trust from players and shops. Vanguard is ready in ice right now.
I am from the UK before the covide happened I travel all around the UK to play Vanguard and at least every tcg shop I saw I could play Vanguard tournaments. Right only go to 2 shops that have good numbers of players playing Vanguard near me and the other shop only does a Vanguard tournament once a month.

As someone that grew up with this game it's honestly infuriating how Bushiroad actively tries to play it safe with their successes and put the risks into new IPs instead of bolstering the IPs that DO WORK (Vanguard, NJPW, Weiss, SVE). Someone said in the discord something along the lines of "Bushiroad is literally Vanguard's biggest enemy," so true and it's so disheartening.
For a fun perspective, I'm a huge professional wrestling fan including NJPW and the Wrestling industry is seeing one of the biggest booms in popularity EVER (for example, there is a wrestling promotion that got Wembley Stadium for a pay-per-view and sold almost 80k tickets iirc) and NJPW is not really trying to push to be the best in a similar way in Vanguard but to stay "relevant", at least for the English audience I have no clue what the JP advertising for NJPW is like.
To sum up my point/tldr of my point is that it feels like Bushiroad is scared to even try to push beyond what their successful IPs could attain and just keep giving us no feedback or word soup about what they 'plan to do.' Bushiroad is Vanguard and Bushiroad's biggest enemy. (And apologies if my post is too vague, tried to keep it short)

speaking as a ws player, it seems like bushiroad is content to just ride the current hololive product profit wave and isn't very concerned about longterm increases in the playerbase overseas, which is incredibly frustrating to watch
they've also taken some horrible missteps with card design/how the metagame environment will look overseas after localizing product in the past two years, but it doesn't hurt their bottom line because the vast vast majority of their overseas (and possibly domestic, I'm not too sure how it is in JP anymore) sales are from collectors who aren't concerned with how the game plays anyway
ws has already had a reputation overseas for being a casual sacky cardgame (similar to how discussions of pokemon's mechanics went in the discourse on twitter this past week lmao), and I really wish bushiroad would at least try to change that by taking its tournament play a bit more seriously. it's very hard to get people to spend 2-300 on a deck for a game they don't think is competitive, especially coming from other games where the entry cost is significantly cheaper

    • @MagitekElite
      @MagitekElite Рік тому +2

theres also this huge disconnect bushiroad has always had when dealing with the overseas market as if they were dealing with domestic where lgs are forced to stock x amount of product in order to qualify as a tournament store, which when you consider how bushiroad will randomly release dead product (ive heard this happening for multiple bushiroad games over the years inc ws and cfv) turns off stores from carrying product and hosting tournaments. like either look into changing product for the overseas market or get this fantasy that stores will jump at the bit to tank your dead product out of your head cmon man

Number 1 TCG company seems SUPER unrealistic for Bushiroad. I guess Weiss is the closest thing they have to get into that status, then again, is super dependent on NOT Bushiroad. Vanguard is in a unfortunate situation in the west, promos and all, and Shadowverse seems to be in a good place, but everyone is trying to get a piece of the TCG pie so it can just get buried by Disney and Bandai.
A new TCG is not the play imo. Not only we don't know until when this TCG "golden age" will last but, with both Weiss and Vanguard surviving the test of time and Shadowverse doing good by itself, it would just be better for them to invest further into these properties(Also i guess rebirth is close to getting the axe lol).

I hope they give us more CFvanguard digital games. Really need to expand out, unsure of Pokemon would have had lasting popularity if it didn't have videogames to cater to mainstream audiences. Additionally Pokemons has since 1996 to become a cross generational cross cultural thing with parents now introducing it to their kids, can't really get vanguard to explode like that in like an eight of its lifetime.
Also can't blame them for launching new ip's best way to ensure there's something available for people who feel like it's too hard to get into years of vanguard at this point.
The problem I see with weiss is that it's dependent on the anime property ip they get so some of that money is being cost shared with other companies and also on waiting to see which anime gets popular in JPN and abroad.

There are few things bushi can fix.
    1. Promo distribution or at least do not make promos that fix the deck. These cards should belong in core sets. Period.
    2. Coverage on events. Its not hard to do that really. If konami and other company can do it, so does bushiroad.
    3. Reprints. Do not make crap tier sets like history collection with horrible ratios or festival collection. 3-cards boosters shouldnt be a thing. It didnt work in yugioh and it also sold poorly in vanguard case. You need to open a case to pull 2-3 harmonics messiah if you want to get into premium. That card is now like 80$. They should just fire a guy responsible for both of these sets.
    4. Pricing of dear days. Really that game got AAA price tag. Why should I bother droping 70$ for a cardgame simulator, when I got CFA Arena or yugioh master duel for free? Paid DLC makes it even more pay2win in multiplayer. That game should have been half of this price, because its ridiculous that this kind of game costs the same as Resident Evil 4 Remake or Deadspace Remake which offer multiple playthroughs and more work was put into them.
    5. Good banlists. D should at least hit some problematic staples or hit chronojet in some way. Stop being afraid of hitting sealed product xd Every card game company does this. If we kill V, at least give back gavrail and prism their stuff. Maybe do some more shake up in premium xd

I do doubt a lot about Bushiroad's claims.
1- To be on top 4 global, they need to at least expand their game to a global scale. Right now, we see no competitive ground out of countries listed in OTAN and a few share of EU countries.
Meanwhile Pokémon TCG and Yugioh are known games from Arzebaijan to Zimbabwe.
Which means that is a true challenge to overcome, since most playgroups that were willing to play the game in a country not supported by bushiroad during CFV's 1st decade, don't wanna play it anymore.
2- Bushiroad is like a slightly better WOTC, they keep breaking promises. But unlike WATSY, BSR at least is not moved by corporative greed.

I have since then switched to v premium and honestly for all the shit people talk about it, i find it way more fun that standard. I never liked how in standard to block one attack i essentially had to give up my whole hand whereas in V prem i can actually guard stuff. I really hope they dont drop v prem and continue to support it. I can see where it has problems like the meta always being the same and stuff but honestly if its that much of an issue just ban em out or introduce new decks of equivalent power. the last v clan collection sets were really under powered leading to people just playing the same decks. Either kill off the old meta to boost up the low powered new stuff or introduce new stuff of equivalent power

With all the talk I've seen lately about the things Bushiroad needs to fix, I've seen some people talking about ARG. That was the biggest boom in Vanguard to my knowledge, but that wasn't Bushiroad, was it? I thought they were something else. What's stopping us from organizing something on our own? I mean I get it venues aren't cheap, but Remote is a thing. If we want to prove that the OT is bad, we could host events that ban them for Premium and Standard just to have numbers and stream them for content to prove the playability, or even without changing the Standard rules, hosting tournaments and showing us. Creators Clash was something that happened. Is there like legality or something stopping us from getting hype and showing them there's a bigger market than they may realize?
I have to thank Bushiroad for going wide instead of doubling down in Vanguard because I like having alternative games, and without Bushiroad, we wouldn't have Shadowverse. I'm with you though on them capitalizing the growth. I'm curious and a little excited to see what they're planning going forward. I want to get deeper and better at Pokemon or feel more confident in buying cards and keeping up with rotation, but that's one thing that Vanguard alleviates. I don't have to worry about that stuff that makes getting into Pokemon difficult or nerve-wracking. Vanguard is a great game and there's definitely grounds for progress. They have all the tools. I think it's a little unfair for people to say that they want Vanguard to be something else like Pokemon or Yugioh. If they did it the exact same way, it wouldn't be the same. I like the idea of Vanguard growing into its own taking its own path and being among the best. Vanguard is on my Mount Rushmore of TCGs, but it's also a niche market. Maybe if it gets the push that it deserves or that they are teasing, it'll get there or close to it, but wanting Vanguard to be like Pokemon isn't going to happen if we're still hung up on triggers and mechanics and every little thing causes a civil war among the community. That said, I worry if maybe Pokemon has some toxic positivity because how can anyone be critical of Pokemon? I'm sure some criticisms exist, but I'm not in it deep enough to know what those are. Casters certainly aren't gonna rag on their game in the middle of Worlds!
These discussions are deep and nuanced and honestly amazing, but with so many people wanting so many things, I worry if we're setting ourselves up for failure because everyone will notice the loudest among us and then that sets the pace for expectation. Thank you for being such a loud and prominent voice, but also being a calm and collected voice at that. You state your concerns and express yourself well. You know what you want the game to be even if I think aspiring to be Pokemon when Vanguard has 15 less years and way less "fuck you money" as I like to say, but even if it was similar but different, I'm totally down for that. Being able to even pretend that the Vanguard Worlds could hold a candle is still hype enough for me. BRO is always fun to watch. Maybe as their teases and plans come to fruition, we will be able to look back at this video and say "we did it. We got there." in whatever form that takes. Thank you for this video, Kris. As always, so proud to call you the Vanguard.

Was that new TCG the same TCG Bushiroad bought from the Force of Will devs?

Damn thank for these updates DF.
Honestly Vanguard feels a lot dried out since when Zero closed,Cuz it's THE one and ONLY f2p game that lets people from many countries Stand up! The Vanguard! with each other for free(?).
So I have a lot expectations for the new game, and by a lot I mean *A LOT* kekw.

I'd say bring more events like Chara Expo in the U.S. would be amazing for Vanguard.

Heaaaaaavely off-topic. But I do wanna get into Cardfight Vanguard with the Urara Trial deck. Someone told me there will be a Deckset for that probably in october but I cannot find anything in the internet about that.
    Is it even true?

There is no deckset for Urara. The decksets in October are for Favrneel, Gramgrace, and for Orfist. The Urara one is a trial deck that came out last year.
