I feel so seen and heard! I too do not care for Christmas and I always feel like a massive grinch compared to everyone else around me and it isn't like I'm not joyful or happy during this season but the expectations overwhelm me. I could enjoy winter perfectly fine without having a holiday shoved at me every few weeks. LOL I am looking forward to enjoying my knits and my projects and resting! LOVING the color cuff club. I will say the thing that brought a smile to my face was opening my email Jan 1st and seeing the cuff of the month design ready to be downloaded! That's the kind of joy I need! 🙂
Hi Kara. Unfortunately our culture has turned Christmas into self-gratification combined with people pleasing combined with materialism and flashy lights as opposed to the ultimate reason which is the yearly reminder of when God became man and lived the life none of us are able to and does the death we all deserve. We remember that He came and will soon return. To God be the glory. Happy New Year to you. Enjoy your sock club pattern. ☺️
I agree about Christmas. But, it was a nice excuse for somebody to gift me your sock book. Lol. I'm sad that our country seems to have skipped right from the over commercialization of Halloween, to the over commercialization of Christmas, we've completely forgotten to be thankful at Thanksgiving. So I'm over all of the holidays.
I too have a very hard time with the holiday season as I am a very minimalist person, quite introverted, and easily overwhelmed. Putting away the decorations is one of my favorite things to do. Haha! But I had a thought come to me as I was standing in a very long line at a grocery store a couple of days before Christmas one year. The very first Christmas long ago was also a very stressful time. Mary and Joseph couldn’t find a decent place to give birth to the Son of God. The shepherds may have had difficulties of their own. The Wise Men had to deal with King Herod. My Christmas stresses (however arbitrary) can be a literal reminder of that first Christmas season. “For unto YOU is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” I love my Saviour and all that He has done for me and you.
I was jumping on to make a similar comment but you said it perfectly! I love my Saviour, so I do celebrate Christmas. Just not all the commercial, noisy, busy things.
I am inspired by your colour selections. Also, I love your new house and seeing the satisfaction you get out of a tidy/clean home sanctuary. I am a member of the colourwork cuff club, but I've been somewhat intimidated to try one. I'm going to jump with this month's pattern based on your video here and I'm also going to try the tiny circulars I have been waiting to try out. THANK YOU!! You bring joy to my days.
I was so thrilled to hear that there is another human that feels the same way I do about Christmas! Normally, when I tell anyone that I don’t like Christmas they give me a strange look like “what’s wrong with you”. But I agree - the expectations are way too high and loneliness is more the norm. My husband and I are retired and no one comes to our house so we don’t decorate at all except for my gingerbread mug with my initial on it. We go to my son’s house for the holiday and enjoy watching my 2 grandchildren open their presents but then I’m done. The days between Xmas and New Years are also awful because you never know what day it is and the normal shows are all on hiatus. Finally 1/6 is almost here and the normal crazy world will return. I love the January socks and love being a member of the sock club. It’s so much fun and it’s great looking forward to the next reveal. It’s great having you back doing videos.❤
Summer, I totally agree with you about January. Even in the very very best of times December is stressful, it’s almost unavoidable. I love the calm that January brings and getting my house back too! Just wanted to send out a request for maybe a short tutorial style video for using 3 colors in one row of color work? Thanks!!
I like Christmas but I think it’s the marketing that adds the pressure and expectations. I like the tree and the festive decorations and the reason for the season. I like to do things for the people who don’t have anyone or get them something that’ll bless them and meet a need. I just gave my grandsons gift cards to restaurants because they love to eat and it helps my widowed daughter not have to cook so much.
WOW! Nobody has described christmas better than you did. I want to scream EXACTLY!! That's it!. Growing up I had perfect, Normal Rockwell christmas's. Or that's how I remember them anyway. But it all revolved around my parents for me. I loved my parents very very much. But once I got married and moved out it was on me to make the magic happen and I couldn't. Oh boy have I tried, but its just not there. A part of me doesn't know how we're suppose to feel, its very confusing and complicated. If that isn't enough, I was born January 7 and its been the worst birthday day possible. Everyone hates January and are celebrated out. Who wants to celebrate a birthday when the weather sucks and you have to go back to school lol. So this time of year, it starts after thanksgiving because I LOVE thanksgiving, is just very high stress emotional roller coaster for me. Thank you Summer. Thank you for your clarity and thank you for liking my birthday month. You've made my day 😊😊
My daughter’s birthday is in January too and she also is not a fan! It’s too cold to do some of the fun birthday activities she’d like, so she totally feels your pain!! And yes - November to the end of December totally feels like a rollercoaster! I think that’s why January feels so magical - like a literal breath of cold, crisp, fresh air! I’ll be sending you mental birthday wishes for a joyous peaceful day on the 7th!
This makes me so happy to hear someone else loves January! It’s my birthday month, and I always feel guilty for enjoying a month that others dislike so much. And ditto on the holidays being…a lot. 😂
Hello from Burlington Ontario. You popped up on my feed and I’m glad you did. First thing I thought was how much you sounded like Melissa Ordway who plays Abby Newman on the Young and Restless, a soap opera I have watched since it first started over 50 years ago ☺️ You especially sound like her when you laugh… so fun! Anyhoo… I recognized your name from many podcasts mentioning your fabulous sock patterns. So happy to meet you. I bought your book! And I subscribed! Can’t wait to bring some life to the socks for the grandkids… all 10th them. ❣️ ANNNNNDDDD… I LOVE today’s sock pattern. 👏🏼👏🏼
OMG! I have found more members of my tribe! I LOVE January for many of the reasons you mentioned. My feelings about Christmas are mixed. We stopped doing presents for adults and I have worked to simplify the celebrations. I don't bake, unless I have a special dessert I want to make. I am beginning to enjoy the reason for the season without all the overblown expectations.
Hi Summer, January is also my favorite month...no holiday expectations, which can be stressful & exhausting. As a Christian we do try & keep Christmas less commercial, but don't always do the best! Now I'm reading, knitting enjoying January! Thanks for your honesty, and speaking out, it's helpful to know other's viewpoints on the holidays, and I support them!
I love seeing your enthusiasm, even cleaning your house, which is beautiful. Your love of color and play is infectious, and I look forward to the new colorful cuff pattern each month.
Love the pattern! Towards the end of the video your washer/dryer went off and we have the same and I went downstairs thinking I had heard mine go off and couldn’t figure out what was going on until I went back and finished the video and heard it again😂😂
So glad to see you again! You’re fun and inspiring to watch Summer, chipper without saccharine syrupy sweet, real and smart. I’d love to sink into that sofa and knit a sock beside you and Beasley! Also 🙋🏼♀️to escorting Christmas trappings out the door - the decapitated “ever”green tree in a body bag made me laugh. Cheers to January and fresh ideas!!❤
I personally love March. It often comes with our coldest weather but it also sometimes offers a hint of the spring to come. The days are getting longer and there is a breath of warmth in the air.
I purchased your first book and bought sock yarn in November with a goal of learning to knit socks in 2025. I started yesterday and am I love with socks! How fun to watch this video while knitting my first sock. The scallops are gorgeous and you convinced me to join your monthly club. Your enthusiasm and directions are making this much easier than I anticipated. Thank you!
I'm so so glad you're enjoying the book and the club! Be sure to check out my free tutorial videos on UA-cam, and never hesitate to message me with any knitting questions! :)
You have no idea how validating and what a relief it is to hear I am not alone in my less than festive feelings about Christmas! And you have improved my attitude toward January. Thank you!! ❤
The color cuff club has been the first club I have ever subscribed to and the best decision I made in 2024 for my knitting journey. I love this January sock and will definitely start my Christmas knitting which includes socks for friends and family. So many colors snd so little time. 😂😂😂 ❤
First I have to say what a change in homes, I loved the character of your old house and it looked like an interesting neighborhood. Having bought and renovated a house it is a lot of work fixing the poor renovations of others so I really get that but it must be a little shocking to be in a new neighborhood looking at all the similar homes. It is a great decision to spend more time with your kids because you only have so much time to enjoy them when they live with you before they are out on the their own. Second I am loving your monthly sock club except I have dropped everything else. Congrats on the new book soon to be in our hands and happy you are back doing a regular podcast.
lol the look on my face when you said you don’t really love Christmas 😂😂😂 as I sit here knitting socks with all of my decorations and tree and lights still up! I feel you about the expectations for the holidays, but my husband and I finally stopped giving in to all of them and just stay home with our dogs, we don’t travel, we don’t have a fancy dinner, we just embrace the coziness in the house and do our hobbies together. Some people think we must be lonely or depressed on a Christmas as childfree people, but since we started doing Christmas OUR way it’s made it really relaxing for us. We let other people’s expectations bounce off of us and do the holiday the way that makes us feel less stressed. Anyway!! I’m also in love with these socks! I might have to case them on after I finish my frilly shorty sock!
Oh gosh, me too - I just can't settle until the house is all squared and tidy. I love Christmas, but it is so very busy; so much so that I have yet to start December's colourwork cuff socks. I think they are so sweet, though I am tempted by the gorgeous simplicity of January's pattern... Happy New Year!
REally impressed with how hubby was going with the grain on that fridge polishing job..I get a lecture from my hubby all the time!! I found the echoey room a little hard to process and listen to. Much relief when you changed rooms.
Haha, yes the office is NOT a good place to film I discovered! It has high ceilings, so definitely echoes! I switched to the living room and that’s much better! So sorry it was hard to hear for that first part!
I gave up Christmas a couple of years ago, it was not my religion so why deal with all the trappings … I do observe the days of Yule, which are much more chill and yet also very cozy and quiet, perfect for knitting!
Same!!!! I love hearing and knowing I’m not the only one that thinks Xmas is stressful. In fact, the Xmas stress starts in November for me. Yay!!! For January!!
So fun! Love those colors. My girls went through a stage at the end of high school where they would only wear mismatched socks! Maybe your daughter should try that! 😂
I love Christmas but not the over commercialism and consumption however I like the contrast of January and it’s my birthday month and my daughters so I enjoy the simplicity of it. My problem with colourwork socks is I just can’t decide what colour combination there is just too much choice and I’m always drawn to brights, doesn’t stop me from wanting to cast down straight away though!
The ChaioGoo twist interchangeable shorties come with two 2” and two 3” tips and by using a 3” on the right and 2” on the left make it easier to hold the needles and helps prevent hand cramping.
Om gosh! I feel exactly the same way! I love January so I can hibernate 😊 I study patterns, make yarn lists in my knitting journal, play with yarn ! Thank you for the BOGO sale and the new January charts....I have almost ALL your patterns but I did find 2 more I didn't have😊 Excited for your new book release!
Will you please come over and clean my house? You two are wizards! I also need a tidy environment to do my crafting. Love the new sock design! I have plenty of yarn in similar colors so will get started soon. Thanks for a fun podcast to start the year.
I like using magic loop for single color and striped socks, but for colorwork tiny ChiaoGoo circulars are fantastic! My floats always cut the corners of magic loop and make the leg too tight to get over my heel.
Thanks for sharing your feelings about Christmas. I feel the same way but never mention it since it's suppose to be such a happy time. Nice to hear I'm not alone. Relieved to have the holidays behind us!
So happy to have you back! You are such an inspiration and you were missed when you were gone! Love the variations on this month’s colorwork! Glad your book submission is done and we have you again! Happy New Year sweet Summer!
So nice to see you again Summer. Congrats on getting your book done. Can’t wait to see it! Thank you for your thoughts on Christmas. You are my people. You summed up my own feelings perfectly. And I love January too !!! 👍🏻. All the best in 2025.
I also have a hard time sitting to do something enjoyable such as knitting when the house is a mess!! I can't wait for your new book and all the new content to come here on your channel this year!
Summer, I love the cuff club so much! It was fun knitting my January socks while watching you knit your January socks. And now I finally understand what minis are for. I might have to put them on my wish list!
I related to this video so hard. Except I don't decorate for Christmas this year. 😅 What a relief. I love my routines and happily remake the same choices for myself daily 🎉 I took keep to warm color palettes and I made a cart at knit picks last night to cast ony first pair of color work socks and BLUE is the color. Good luck to me. Keep on inspiring us in your own little way.😂 Happy New Year.
The first set of colors looked like waves to me - and I loved that! I got inspired and pulled out graph paper and started designing rows of waves that shift right and left (not exactly like yours, because I am adding fish! And also, to copy would be stealing.) And I am digging out some variegated yarn from my stash to make the water between my waves more "realistic". I am going to duplicate stitch a little "goldfish" school and others solo in some different colors. Thank you for all the inspiration! (I think I am owing some credit to Pepperidge Farm gold fish crackers, too!)
I love having you back, Summer. The new house is gorgeous and was happy to get the "cleaning tour". I wanted to thank you for the cuff club. It's a nice little surprise each month. ❤ Health and happiness to you and your family in 2025. I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year. PS. You'll need to install an asphalt strip in the middle of your yard for Beasley. Lol.😅
Wow I feel the same way about Christmas! I mean literally everything you described is how I feel. So happy to hear someone else say it out loud. And so happy Christmas is over. Thank you ❤
Haha then there’s me, that when you held up the blue and beige sock was like OMG ITS THE BEACH!!! And immediately decided I needed to do those colors 😅
Christmas was awesome this year. Started of with a pre-christmas party on the sofa knitting a sweater Christmas itself was spent on the sofa, working on my sweater Still in the post-christmas party finishing my sweater😂
❤❤love the socks this month,,,,🎉🎉 Such a great club ,,,, Excited to start this month,,,,,🎉love doing the colorwork with 9inch,,,,, Enjoy ur podcasts,,,, ELAINE 🏡💕
So glad you're back! I've really missed your weekly videos so much. I'm super excited that you have another book in the works too. I've knit a bunch from your first one and now that I'm learning colourwork, I'll be able to dive into that chapter too! I see a Colourwork Cuff Club subscription in my future. LOL
I love Christmas and find it extremely stressful. January is always a relief! Very much looking forward to your book. I have your other and it is a favorite! ❤
Oh, I'm definitely on your Christmas train!!! I have the original Build-A-Bear with the Christmas Tree outfit and a flying polar bear with a Santa that my sister bought for me in Williamsburg, VA and that's my total decoration - they stay out all year with my bear collection so I call it good enough!!!
I'm so glad you're back on UA-cam🎉 Girl, same feelings about Christmas... I'm wondering if I can get my family to celebrate winter solstice next year and call it good🤔 probably not😂 When you said you were going to clean the house, you meant CLEAN THE HOUSE. good job!
Gentle January is the best. Absolutely same about Christmas and holiday season!! Over it before it begins! Christmas tree down day of Christmas and I like to only decorate every other year or so. My daughter had a tree in her room this year the only tree.
I am glad Christmas is over to, it just seems like a chore. But it’s cold and snowy here. So the lights and decorations look so lovely. Wow your socks are just great! They look awesome all 4 of them. I watch another lady that is doing your monthly sock club, and she lives in a city close to me, her socks are lovely. I don’t do color work, but would love to try it with these ones. Great to see you take care
I think I enjoy your "life perspectives" as much as I enjoy your patterns and knitting. Thank you for being so open about your experiences and feelings. Next year I'm going to just have a few friends over for Christmas tacos or something else that is fun and easy, build a fire, bring out a murder mystery board game, and avoid all the stress.
@@summerleedesignco.6471 Thank you also for reminding me about John Grisham movies. I watched Runaway Jury last night while knitting, and forgot how amazing the cast was - Mickey Rourke, Mary Kay Place, Danny DeVito... are you kidding me? All such great characters!
Happy New Year from cold snow and ice of Northwestern Ohio. I can wait to cast on a new pair of socks. I received your book, The Sock Project for Christmas, and I can't wait to begin!
I love Christmas. I do not put the stress on myself. I stopped baking cookies. We purchased some, and a friend gave us a tray. No stress. I purchased every gift online. No stress. I stopped sending cards. Everyone survived. I decorated a small tree, put a couple of evergreen garlands with lights on, and a few shelf decorations….no stress, and they are still up. We go to my daughters to be with our grandsons. No stress…just lots of happiness. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am sad during the holidays. I was extremely sad on New Year’s Day. We are empty nesters, so this the sadness. My parents and in laws are gone. Sadness. But….i enjoy the decorations, the lights, and the snow. I guess I’m a half full glass kind of girl. But I understand from where you are coming. When your daughter is old enough, perhaps she will take over. When you have grandchildren, you will maybe find the joy I did. Once your nest is empty, you do you. If decor stresses you…fix it. Don’t decorate. Everyone will survive. You are such a full of life lady with an enormous talent. Focus on the good. I love your videos, and get so excited to see them. I have almost all of your patterns, your first book, and am a member of your sock club. So, you, oddly enough, take away any of my stress that I put on myself. Thank you, Summer! Love to you! Oh, and I love winter months! I love cozy. ❤❤
Lol since my kids grew up.. hated Christmas.. my e even before that time... but totally looked forward to January.. That seemed to be the month just for me.. no obligations, no expectations. My month
Wow, so many views in 7 hours. I really enjoy your updates and new designs. Christmas is too stressful, but I enjoy a quiet dinner, movie at home with my husband. I also like January despite the Polar Votex that we are beginning to feel here in Michigan.
Christmas is so hit or miss for me. This year was definitely a time of feeling sad and lonely and just wanting to be done with the holidays. I took my tree down on Wednesday and it feels so refreshing to have my house back! I too get that January mojo boost and I'm so excited for new things and new makes! Also very much looking forward to new videos from you since they never fail to brighten my mood!! Happy January!
Hi Summer! Your new scallop design is really really cute. I have a more enjoyable knitting experience with the warmer colors on the color wheel too, even though I love the dark purples, blues and greens. I think it's because with the warmer, brighter colors it's just easier for me to see my stitches. BTW, my very first pair of socks were knit with the dreaded BLACK yarn! 🤦 Clearly I was not thinking when I decided to go that route! Lol! Anyway, I am so happy to have you posting again. You're such a fun friend to knit and hang out with. And, thank you for the coupon it really is appreciated. ✌️💜🧶🧦

Hi Summer! Thank you for the coupon. I picked up the In Bloom Sock Set and the Summerland Sock Set. I’m going to have so many beautiful socks! 🧦

I love the calmness and return to routine in January 😊 December really takes it out of me

Happy Birthday! Knit and be merry! :)
It’s also my birth month also. 🎉
I love John Grisham books and movies also. Love the colors on that sock you finished, the first one lime green with pink top.
love the scalloped design. Happy New Year. Wishing you and the family a happy, healthy and safe 2025.
Happy new year I love your colorwork cuff club so thank you I was so proud that I made the December ones so the January ones will be next ❤️

Those socks are adorable! This year I am going to start collecting solid colour sock yarns so I can play 😊
Great little cuff on these socks 💚 those blues still need to see their own spotlight soon … maybe mix in a fluro yellow, blue and a green 👍💚

So glad you are back to making videos! I can’t wait for more ❤
I missed you guys too! 😊
I just found out your channel and your patterns. I did not know I need colorwork socks :) Bought the CCC and I love it. Thank you :)

I love seeing your enthusiasm, even cleaning your house, which is beautiful. Your love of color and play is infectious, and I look forward to the new colorful cuff pattern each month.

Same regarding Christmas! Love the new CWC sock.
I love these!
Thank you so much!

It sounds like you’ve found the perfect way to celebrate the holidays! Thanks for sharing, and also for the kind words!!
Totally agree with your Christmas sentiments. I also love January. I canbreath again!
I am so happy to meet my people. I love January, happy the holidays are over...all the same as you.
LOL, yes, sorry about that! The office is definitely much echoier than the rest of the house. I WON'T be filming in there again!
I audibly gasped when I saw there was a new video from Summer. Thanks for posting, you bring me joy!!
I gave up Christmas a couple of years ago, it was not my religion so why deal with all the trappings … I do observe the days of Yule, which are much more chill and yet also very cozy and quiet, perfect for knitting!
Sounds like I need to read up on the Days of Yule then!!
Same!!!! I love hearing and knowing I’m not the only one that thinks Xmas is stressful. In fact, the Xmas stress starts in November for me. Yay!!! For January!!
I loved the original colour combination!
So fun! Love those colors. My girls went through a stage at the end of high school where they would only wear mismatched socks! Maybe your daughter should try that! 😂
LOVE LOVE LOVE these socks!!! the color combos are the best!!!!!!! You are too funny, such a joy to spend time with!
I’m with you on your Christmas views!
The ChaioGoo twist interchangeable shorties come with two 2” and two 3” tips and by using a 3” on the right and 2” on the left make it easier to hold the needles and helps prevent hand cramping.
Om gosh! I feel exactly the same way! I love January so I can hibernate 😊
I study patterns, make yarn lists in my knitting journal, play with yarn ! Thank you for the BOGO sale and the new January charts....I have almost ALL your patterns but I did find 2 more I didn't have😊
Excited for your new book release!
Summer loved your video also love colorwork cuff club
I also have a hard time sitting to do something enjoyable such as knitting when the house is a mess!! I can't wait for your new book and all the new content to come here on your channel this year!
I love that you clean as a team!
Thank you for another video Summer and I love the socks
Summer, I love the cuff club so much! It was fun knitting my January socks while watching you knit your January socks. And now I finally understand what minis are for. I might have to put them on my wish list!
I'm glad you're back!
Me too! :)
totally agree with you about christmas. i love your videos!
I related to this video so hard.
Except I don't decorate for Christmas this year. 😅 What a relief. I love my routines and happily remake the same choices for myself daily 🎉
I took keep to warm color palettes and I made a cart at knit picks last night to cast ony first pair of color work socks and BLUE is the color.
Good luck to me. Keep on inspiring us in your own little way.😂
Happy New Year.
That sounds AWESOME! Obviously, we need pictures when you're finished!
Lol.😅
So with you on Christmas!
LOL - I get it, they really did look pretty together!
I love lakes and ocean so I loved the first one!😅
I know, I was torn too. I may still go back to it, LOL
Christmas was awesome this year.
Started of with a pre-christmas party on the sofa knitting a sweater
Christmas itself was spent on the sofa, working on my sweater
Still in the post-christmas party finishing my sweater😂
❤❤love the socks this month,,,,🎉🎉
Such a great club ,,,,
Excited to start this month,,,,,🎉love doing the colorwork with 9inch,,,,,
Enjoy ur podcasts,,,,
ELAINE 🏡💕
Thank you Elaine! :)
I’ve noticed that you never mention knitting on 2 circulars. It is so easy, for me, and keeps the pattern in order like no other approach.
Do you have a video tutorial on how to use three colors in one round? I really don't know how to manage that.
I don't yet, but it's on my list of tutorial videos to shoot in 2025!
I am loving this months Colorwork cuff. Simple but classy. Fun with colors.
Summer I’m so glad you’re back!!! I missed your videos. Congratulations on your move! I can’t wait for your new book
Thank you! I really missed the videos too, and I'm so happy to be back!
Im in the cuff club but have never done Any colorworks. This month it looks like I can try! Thank you, I'm stoked !
You can do this one, I KNOW you can! :)
My favorite part of Christmas is the giving and decorating but not so much about the constant go go go. It can be very stressful so I hear you.
I'm so glad you're back on UA-cam🎉 Girl, same feelings about Christmas... I'm wondering if I can get my family to celebrate winter solstice next year and call it good🤔 probably not😂
When you said you were going to clean the house, you meant CLEAN THE HOUSE. good job!
Yes! I’m all for celebrating the winter solstice. I must be a pagan at heart! 😅
I like your thinking - we should just force the issue with our families! "It's solstice, or nothing!" LOL
Gentle January is the best. Absolutely same about Christmas and holiday season!! Over it before it begins! Christmas tree down day of Christmas and I like to only decorate every other year or so. My daughter had a tree in her room this year the only tree.
Loved it Summer, your sock club is wonderful even though I’ve only done the first one. Socks are so cute, Thankyou and can’t wait for this year 🥰
Best Wishes for 2025! Love the January cuff. Definitely a less is more situation.
OMG! I just love your videos so much. They always make my day 😊
Thank you!
I love this so much! A genius idea!!!
So cute! Great to see you back!
What a wonderful thing to say! Thank you! And I'm so glad you had lovely stress-free Christmas :)
How do you block your socks? I love how smooth fabric looks!!
I’m so excited to see you back. Love sock knitting ❤❤❤❤ Kathy from Massachusetts
you are so right about Christmas, and also some singers pop up all of a sudden, like Michael Bubble, Maria Carey, Boney M the horror!
Love this episode. Just knitting with a very charming person.. i'm a big fan of the second colour combo. Great😊😊
Your house is so cool !
This episode is one of my favorites!!! Shout out to Beasley - I'm sure she has her reasons LOL
I love the blue combo 🧦
✌️💜🧶🧦
You're very welcome, and THANK YOU!
Yes Yay for January!!! Also my fav month! Love the scallops 💕
