In Belgium in the eighties you would ask for a "mazout" in a bar , you would get a beer with cola mix . Because of the resemblance to heating fuel that's where it's got it's name from. Sprite and beer wasn't that usual with us. Another was a "perroquet " (Parrot) which was beer with "sirop de menthe" (corrected )
Alternatively ET sees people getting eaten and says: 'Ouch!'. [Bit of an understatement methinks!] Cut to: Elliot burping in school after ET gets Elliot drunk. Also when the ET ship lands, close up on Chief Brodie: 'We're gonna need a bigger boat!'.

Lots of memories in your room, I used to work fixing those Olympias in the 80's, good machines. I remember that lego space set, never got the 928 as a present, just the 918 :-(
Wow might need your help! As I recall the carriage is stuck so when typing it doesn’t move. My first thing would be to just disassemble and lubricate things. Am I on the right track?
@@RetroRecipes As i remember, they used a big stepper motor and belt. If it is turned off, it should slide left to right very easily. If not a seized rail as you say could the issue. You could spray some WD-40 on the rail as it goes into the carriage to free up the brass bearings. Once moving smoothly then clean it off and put some car oil on the rail. If it doesn't move when it then on, the power electronics driving the big stepper motor have overheated and blown. All fixable however, good German technology, though i preferred the Olivetti et121, as not as over engineered 🙂

I only wish i could remember more of the 80's but unfortunately i have only been around since late 84 so KR reruns Bill Nye reruns and the third slips my mind but was an AI based show fostered a love of all forms of tech. Oh! Wow! That Lego spaceship! Even more nostalgic for me than 8bit computing. Before I had my first (Atari 8bit) computer... Lego was the thing I had that I loved the most. That very spaceship was my first ever Lego set. My dad reckoned I wouldn't be able to assemble it so he spent an evening making it for me... Thinking about it I am sure he just wanted to play with it as much as I did. I was 7 or 8 at the time. For the next few years until computers came along I must have made and remade that ship dozens of time... and ended up with quite a collection of sets which I passed onto my own children. I hadn't realized a re-release was happening. I hope I can convince my wife buying it again is not just a whim!

Another, magical RRetro Show Perifractic! Is the TARDIS door a sneaky way to expand the size of your house without any type of planning permission? Lego Atari VCS? Sounds very interesting, as it was the VCS that stopped me playing with LEGO when I was a kid. I am glad to see that Ladyfractic loves Doctor Who as well. That lady obviously has very good taste. It would be nice to see a short remembrance of Micro Live in a future show. I loved that programme. Database and 4 Computer Buffs were also quite good. Is it possible to create a working joystick built from LEGO? That might be an engineering feat too far for anyone. Brilliant again guys. PS. So sad about Bernard Cribbins.

2:49 I had this Lego set as a kid 🙂. I especially liked it because the spaceship reminded me of a Snow Speeder from The Empire Strikes Back (1980), which was my favourite movie until I saw Amadeus (1984) and Back to the Future (1985). Now, it's #1 Amadeus, #2 The Empire Strikes Back, and #3 Back to the Future.
The lego set I remember the most is the "Deep Freeze Defender" from 1993. I loved the crap out of that thing. I don't care what it's supposed to be. It was absolutely a space ship to me. It separates into like 4 different components and one of them opens up a door and can launch a small vessel. I loved it so much. I don't have it anymore.

Rather than modern "gadget programmes" that focus on a superficial black box treatment of consumer technology, TW had informed presenters discussing how new inventions worked (and what didn't work yet, but might), and visiting and interviewing actual experts. A great example of just how well TW covered topics was their segment first talking about the Internet in 1994: ua-cam.com/video/V8cnP-RtRHU/v-deo.html It went along with the way we explored and used what are now "retro" home computers and made me realise that I wanted a career researching and innovating too, something I've been lucky enough to be able to follow through with. Another great BBC TV series in the 80s was Micro Live. Great show again! I also had this Lego LL928 spaceship and that station, among some other classic space sets. All with original boxes. Sold everything some years ago! 🙁 I bought the transparent version of that 1200 case. When you put a 1200 in, it would be interesting to know, if you still could insert a PCMCIA adapter. Here I had to file a bit the slot of the case, otherwise it won't fit! Also the metal bracket of the floppy drive doesn't quite fit, had to widen the holes a bit. And the eject button is for another type of drive unfortunately. 🤔
Anyone notice KITT has a english accent, well he would, Knight Industries was own by Wilton Knight who was played by Richard Basshart ... :) so was a British Foundation.. :) Devon Miles was British and was played by Edward Mulhare.... :) but weird how Wilton made Michael look like his son Garthe Knight.. :)
Usagi electric has not only a fun project with his one-bit vacuum tube demonstrator computer project but has a working centurion micro-computer with working CDC Hawk drive in it! and he has connected it to his TI99. I still prefer my TI92A calculator

I have the distinction of saying I never once used IE (or the Edge renamed version) on any computer I own. Never once. I did have to use it at work, on various work computers.
He's a child of the 70s; I did the math; we're about the same age; from 73-74! We were quite functional children at 5-6 in 79. Well, he was; I was having to get over seizures and doing repatterning back then, but still... seems that you're a child of the decade you were born in.
So you went to school with famous people and i went to school with people who mostly ended up in prison. What a difference it makes between West and South London hahaha

Great show again! I also had this Lego LL928 spaceship and that station, among some other classic space sets. All with original boxes. Sold everything some years ago! 🙁
I bought the transparent version of that 1200 case. When you put a 1200 in, it would be interesting to know, if you still could insert a PCMCIA adapter. Here I had to file a bit the slot of the case, otherwise it won't fit! Also the metal bracket of the floppy drive doesn't quite fit, had to widen the holes a bit. And the eject button is for another type of drive unfortunately. 🤔

I have the distinction of saying I never once used IE (or the Edge renamed version) on any computer I own. Never once. I did have to use it at work, on various work computers.
He's a child of the 70s; I did the math; we're about the same age; from 73-74! We were quite functional children at 5-6 in 79. Well, he was; I was having to get over seizures and doing repatterning back then, but still... seems that you're a child of the decade you were born in.
So you went to school with famous people and i went to school with people who mostly ended up in prison. What a difference it makes between West and South London hahaha
