- In The shining of the Stars By: Robert Sheldon
Performed by The Everman High School Wind Ensemble (Everman,TX) Under the Direction of Ondra Calvert
This was the second piece performed in this years 2007-2008 program
Recording is from the UIL Perfomance
Sound quality isnt very good... stupid computer :/
we earned a sweepstakes and all 3 judges said that this was the most well performed musical/dynamical perfomance they've heard on this piece :)
We played this in my 8th grade year. I'm now 22 yrs old and it brings back oh so many memories.
The notes are easy, but it was a very difficult song to play.
It brought tears tomy eyes when we finally played it at UIL.
omg i’m in 8th grade and we’re playing this for UIL this year
In memory of my late band director our new director and our entire band gathered up and play this song at his funeral 😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭
Joss Picardal my sincerest apologies to you and the your band I can sympathize as my band director was convicted of a crime he didn't do and can't teach at my school anymore
Joss Mikeal Picardal AWWW
Awww that’s so sad I’m so sorry
.We are playing it for our concert band i love it!!!
We played this in my high school area's honor band just a couple of weeks ago. I ABSOLUTELY loved this song. The story behind it helped me get over a good friend of mine committing suicide. Needless to say I cried playing this at the concert, but I sure played my heart out. Definetly one of my favorite moments of my life.
HeyItsLoganGT what's the story behind it?
We are playing this in the Godley Wildcat Symphonic Band as one of our UIL Concert Band pieces this year!!
when i listened to this at my school when we had a veteran's day assembly; i cried.
our jazz band played so well. it was heart whelming.
God if I thought we were drooling at the end of the last one, this one was hell. Then those notes at the end.... Taby and I nearly killed ourselves trying to match. No joke.
My band is playing this in High School... it's a song that any band can play, really, but that doesn't mean it's easy. It's a song that will sound better and better as more skilled people play it, you have to go up to the professional level to see any kind of plateau as to how well thing song can be played.
I came to my computer today ticked off more than I have been in months, purposefully looking for this song to calm me down- and it worked. You guys sound great, thanks for sharing this.
I'm in Junior high and we're playing this piece very well. We've only had 2 weeks to practice this song. But you guys are so much better :]
sounds soo much better than my band! great job you guys, really admire the dynamics!
Absolutely one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. I cry every time I hear it.
I swear the greatest song i have ever heard in my entire life.
This song makes me happy and it motivates me…i know weird but it truly and always has an impact on me.
Thank God for a piece like this.
This is my favorite piece and song.
Its literally my ringtone. I love it so much.
I just love it.
Ditto
I am playing it coming up
I loved his song in middle school so much, i got a copy of the score from my band director, and i converted it to a piano piece..
i want it !
This song is a very majestic piece i love it. It has so many messages in it. Also sound quality is not bad
@chocobuniz It was made easy for a reason. The story of this piece is that there was a nice clarinet teacher at that school who died of pancreatic cancer. Everybody loved her and wanted to be taught by her. The school this was at had grades 5-12 so they made it easy so everyone could play it. They performed it for the first time at her funeral.
go trumpets!
This is definitely my favorite song we played while I was at Everman!!!
3:38 is my favorite part to play with my band lol I'm in low brass shout out to the trombones😎😎😂😂💪💪
stay long ;)
Ayyy I'm first chair trombone 😂😂😂
Trombones = Best Instrument and no one can change my mind
1st trombone all the way🙂🙂
I so appreciate the trombone shootout because the first trombone part is pretty high ;-;
Wow, quite lovely! We tried to do this at my school, but we sorta all suck. It's wonderful to hear how it should sound ^_^
anyone find it on spotify? my HS band played it my junior year (my last year) and to this day is my favorite
you tell him so i dont have to... lol we sounded hellagood
Oh man. This piece is in the middle of our contest set. Along with "Knights of Dunvegan" and "New Castle March" Its such a delicate piece at that to. This is gonna be my first year going to "Concert and Sight reading" I'm so F*cking nervous! And being the only baritone doesn't help lol. Wish me luck everyone!
@tekkenmaster agreed, my band director said the most hard part about playing this song is balance, blend and the dynamics.
My band is playing this (btw we're a JR. High band) and we can play it note-wise but my teacher said we have major issues using emotions while playing so it sounds like just another song when we play it.
@Ricekake123 never said the flutes were bad lol!! i loved this one
03:26 chills ran up my spine i just love this song!! we're gonna play it for uil! and I'm in 7th grade honor band
Huh, me too. I'm also in 7th grade honors band.
Da QUEEN..👑 What do you play?
Epic Ninja The clarinet. I'm an incoming 9th grader now.:)
Kiandrakayleen lmao playing this for my high school symphonic band, and clarinet for sure sounds great in it. I for one am a French horn player, but if you're looking for a good piece with clarinet you should check out The Seal Lullaby for band by Eric Whitacre.
I love this song so much! It is so beautiful. However- I have NEVER hated playing a song so much in my life. Cut time in 4/4 time and having nothing but full notes tied and the same with half notes and dotted. It seems so easy, but I don't think I will ever be able to completely play this song! Why, Sheldon?! Why?!
Olivia ✩ i remember playing this in the 8th grade.. babayyyy my lips would be over it by the end of the song!! 😂😂😂 but it’s still one of my favorite pieces.
I'm not surprised... you guys did a great job on this song. Honestly I think it sounds better slower.
Dude this is a grade 3 song its hard
i am first trumpet in this the way to get that uniformed sound takes lots of work and practice but we were all also playing on the exact same horn and we spent alot of time getting that right so its doable just very very very hard
yeah we played it around here because we could do allot more dynamicaly if you know what i mean! judges ate it up haha
Lol in freshman year of highschool and we will be playing this as a UIL concert piece in like a few weeks.
Michael Nguyen we are playing this next week for that 😉😂😂😂
Wow :/ I'm playing this in 7th grade
I WAS PLAYING THIS IN 6th lol
It is suppose to b in cut time my school played this
The story behind isn't really a story. In the shining of the stars was written after a very amazing girl conductor/ clarinet player died this is written in her memory henceforth the way it sounds.
Brittany Lochridge that story is not true
@@gregballard6920 What's the actual story then
that sounds realllly pretty :)
our middle school bands playing that
but we don't sound that good :/
@ApertureAce Okay I guess that makes more sense now. It's pretty sweet!! Nice song :)
This is such a beautiful song we are playing this next Monday for a concert can't wait!!!!
what a beautiful piece.
whoop whoop flutes
oh yeah i’m a flute
@tekkenmaster agree 100%
@MrEDNJ totally agree lol!
playing this song for my upcoming concert in May 😊 it's our best piece out of three
Just got this music today in band and I play timpani and in 8th grade
I performed this at Symphony Center in chicago and crowd loved it.
this was my sr. year at everman and i broke down into tears when i herd it we sounded so good
@Mander1991 The 4 of us (Flutes) were freakin' awesome!!!! :D
@tekkenmaster the flutes sound awesome too :) pretty good for high school, actually.
Ok so to the 6th greader who just learned witch end of the horn to blow into.......the version of the song that you are playing is the dumbed down one you are in the 6th gread we would have played rings around u with time to spair so be4 you go poppin off get the wetness from behind your ears THANKYOU
wait do they not know its in cut time??? well it is!!!
My Junior High Year we played this. One of our judges wrote in big letters. "This is a junior high band? Thought it was a varsity high school band. My mistake." Yeah. We were that goodd. @tekkenmaster there are some bands that can't play this. But those who can, are the ones you just insulted. Like me.
how do you guys get your trumpet tones so great? we still have some people at our school with bad tone
We sight-read this about two months ago, and now I've been told we're playing it for a concert in either April or May. I noticed that the bells came in at measure 18. On the oboe/bells part, right above around 16, I think, there's something that says -Bells, which means bells are not included in that part of the song. It makes that section sound more percussive, which is not supposed to be that way at that section. Bells come in at measure 54, and leave again at 66 (I think that's what it is). It will say +Bells at 54 and -Bells again at whatever measure it was. Those parts aren't supposed to have bells in them, that's not how the song goes. ;)
I am playing this piece in my honor band concert in MI. Its a good song
you guys did great
Is there Mallet Percussion in this?
WOW! That is WAY better than how we played it at Worlds of Fun. Nice job
Loved playing song last year dudeee🙄!
I’m playing this in band and for festival and I’m in 6th grade in advanced band
I'm glad I searched this up, I need more practice for this piece..
@Matt123ttam brass was still kind of rough =\ and the clarinets sound like they lost stamina at the end and couldn't keep in tune. but hey! it gave me the good and bad chills in certain parts xD
This song always reminds me of my OTP. She tragically had to have her memories wiped to save her, but in my head he comes up with a better solution and they're reunited again. This song fits the vision in my head.
strangely enough, the way Sheldon wrote it, it's meant to go pretty fast because it's in cut time. my band played a little faster (well im in Matt123ttam's band) but not by much. we played at cut time, but at about 40 bpm. we got straight ones at UIL. y'all should let the low voices come out more. but yeahhh, y'all sound really good! it's like extremely peaceful at this slower tempo. go to my channel and watch (more listen, really) to my band's video!
Also, I'm not saying that NO junior high bands could play this. There's a saying, "Just when you think you're the best, there is always someone better out there." Meaning that maybe SOME junior high bands ARE capable of playing it. There's plenty of talented young musicians out there, and I'm not here to deny that. All I did was state my opinion of how it's a bad idea.
dang whys it so slow im playing this for uil and the intro is faster o.o
Go clarinets and flutes!!!! N
its written in cut time, but most directors choose 4/4
Ahhh iM iN 9th GRADE AND A 3A BAND!! WE PLAYING THiS FOR UiL!! AHHH!! LOVE it DOE!! MY FAVE SNG!!
I play trumpet in my schools advanced band and we are performing this piece on may 15
Our band perfromed this fir concert one 1a at uil and it got us second place honor band ranking
Could be wrong, but I believe this is under tempo quite bit.
+Hunter Dodgen Under tempo on purpose I'm sure, which makes it far more difficult and effective. Lovely interpretation
To all the alto sax seconds I’m sorry you had to get this piece. Plz try and stay awake.
Yay, go us! :D And just for everyone else, it was utter hell playing this so slow, but we did it because it sounded better. ;)
It's crazy how this one has the most views, though! It was my least favorite song (to play)! xD
um that is NOT an easy song, its actually harder to make a nice tone on a slow song than to go crazy on a faster one, so.... yeah
I just played this piece today.
High school? Wow. This is such an easy song, i'm from ak in grade 6, and we sound waaaay better. Bring it on!
Agreed my school band is play this beautiful piece and we r trying to feel the depth of this piece of art
I remember learning to play this piece with my former band director who was a father figure for me sadly he was accused of something he didn't do and can't teach at my school anymore 😭😭
Well you just seem quite ignorant. Yea, I'm sure most bands can sound okay playing this piece. Can they sound great or amazing. Playing something slow like this is more than just hitting the right notes and balancing. Music can be soo much more when you put feeling into it and be musical with it. Passion makes it great, I guess that is something you don't have for music.
@snakevenom38 so...
This a deceptively difficult piece to play. Almost any young band could play the notes. But to turn those notes into music takes a very mature group. You guys (and especially your director) have done a commendable job. Perfect? No. Live performances rarely are! But it was musical and I thought the tempos were great. I'm adding you to my favorites!
it's so pretty T.T and our band is playing it too! ;)
this is our school's alma mater! :D
My favorite part is the chord at 3:30.
Sounds a lot like a national anthem. I'm playing this piece in my band.
Playing this in 2 weeks for competition I'm in 8th grade honor band
you should record it!
I'm playing it in about 2 weeks from now
u should record it! i just love this piece!
On honor band eight grade too we got first ranking because of this sone beautiful piece
very nice but the only thing i would ask for would for more baritone otherwise perfect
@wink8thperiod and @DJStreetRocker16
Seriously guys, stop hating. I'm just stating my opinion. Never did I say it was impossible. I just said that it was a bad idea. By the way,(to wink8thperiod) I really would like to know how much experience you have. No offense, but seriously even if it is flat, which to me, sounds fine, what right do you have of judging this band? To me they sound great overall, just maybe some balance issues here and there.
this songs isnt really ment to go fast most ppl take it slow and yeah at the end we added things we interpreted it our on way
thank you this helped me alot (:
im playing this in band now on the bells.
and had problems practicing without a guide.
thank you :D
I played this last year but never heard about the story behind it. What is it?
I remember playing this last year. It was really cool, but this seems way under tempo. Liked it either way!
JekrixLokan what do you play?
JekrixLokan nice, I play euphonium
JekrixLokan some bands play it four four and some play it cut time
McDonald jr high school is playing this and other grade 3
i have to learn to play/balance in less than two week lol its easy but still us flutes are the best lol
This song is pretty difficult because of how slow it is :P
Yeah, this song is SUPPOESED to have dynamics like speeding up, slowing down
+Tosh SkyWasher umm... Those aren't dynamics
TheRaven314
lol
Music
1.5X perfect
That also had a nice French horn line, better than how I did it
Velocisaurusman really? We are playing this (I am a french horn player) and honestly it easy just a pain in the butt to play at the same time ya know what I mean 😂
Yeah it made more sense taknig it slow going fast made it sound very weird.. we were being musical with it.
Like I said before dude. I'm just stating my opinion. If the people who can play this feel offended, then they really, in reality, can't play this. If they are confident they can play this and feel like they did their best, they should not be insulted and should be proud of what they did. Just saying. So stop bashing on me like I'm some sort of idiot who doesn't know. Not every junior high band is talented.
this will go well in an anime
