For me, this fix worked. After confirming both the batteries and battery holder was good, resetting the unit didn’t work, changing the frequency didn’t work, ground balancing didn’t work, not being able to try another coil, turning off my cell phone, and removing my cars smart key for my jacket all didn’t work, I did the following:
Removed the head unit from the shaft, disconnected the coil plug, sprayed Deoxit spray on the both the male and female portions of the plug and it’s mating part on the head unit, then I soaked the end of a q-tip with Deoxit and cleaned the male connectors, sprayed Deoxit on the tip of a needle and cleaned the female connections, removed any excess with a paper towel and reassembled the connection while the head unit was off for better leverage to insure a tight fit (to the point where you can’t see the o-ring), turned off my electric dog fence (lol), went to an area in my back yard where there aren’t any other electric lines, and the unit worked normally again. Quiet and picked up a test quarter, dime and penny with accuracy and only one bar knocked off the sensitivity scale. Ground balance work normally to.
Hello, I just repaired my AT gold, it must sand the ring and then put the solder. Then sand the nut and go up and tighten. I had just tried pilling and it had done the same as on your video. try you will see it refurbish. then you have to pour resin or silicone on it to avoid another oxidation. I'm going to make a video to explain to the sad hunter who has the problem.

I have been struggling with chatter on my AT Max since I bought it - at times.
It would be scary for me to take it apart but maybe I can tell the place that fixes these (where it was purchased) about the ground wire and maybe they can fix it? We shall see. I may take it there one day.
I am apprehensive though since Aquachigger signed my machine when he was here and I wouldn’t want that to go missing - ever! 😊

Try bending the female socket pin where the coil cord attaches to the housing. I use a tiny jewlers flat tip screwdriver to close the socket tighter around the male pin when it's reinserted. This trick also works with BNC camera connectors.
A little bit of dielectric grease on those connections will help keep the corrosion away. Also, you may want to add some electrical tape between the wires and the circuit board.

lol Car tools .. OMG Anyhow thanks for the look inside. Try this open it again connect your coil to complete the circuit. Then use Freeze spray for electronics to locate the cold solder on the PCB. it could also be a component but the freeze spray will help you also locate that. Good luck.

1 YEAR FOUND NOTHING WITH AT MAX A REAL PILE OF JUNK-
I use the device above water and under water sometimes it starts playing with nothing, and sometimes the signal disappears completely as if the coil had been switched off. I turn the device off and then turn it on. when I turn it on, the device is silent. how can I fix it?

If you open it warranty is VOID.
Warranty was long gone. I’ve had it for a number of years now. The place I purchased It from can probably repair it. I’ll just have to pay for the repair.
Is your lighting fluorescent?
Just 1 small LED light. I am in desperate need of lights and a mic. Hopefully soon! lol.. I gave not contacted Garrett. I am way past warranty at this point. I may have to bring it in to Radioworld where I purchased it. They have a good team of techs that can probably fix it.
