  • Did this video to show how to repair a broken coil cable. A freind sent this to me to attempt a repair. Looks like it was a success. Thanks for watching, Joe.

Thanks for this video! I had two Minelab 11” pro coils of my buddies that went bad; making erratic sounds and not sensing targets. I suspected a break in the wire pretty much exactly where yours was bad so I peeled back the outer layer and found the shielding wires were broken through in both coils. Repaired them like you did and both are working great again! It must be a common problem and makes me wonder how many people have thrown them out when they could have easily been fixed. Thanks again for making the video!

@@petedetects7012 Yes solder it. Slip a small piece of shrink tubing over the wire before hand then shrink it over the solder joint when finished.

Thank you. Got an 8" XP Goldmaxx Power coil not working and might now give it a go - nothing to loose. Just got to get the equipment and figure out which end is broken! Great little video. Cheers from the UK.

Joe, it's a Detech EQ2 6" DD .... and thank you very much again for your help. Enjoyed the video and I subscribed too. You have reaffirmed by belief that there are still some decent people left in the world ..

In the future wrap your wires around each other ( but continuing in a straight line) then solder.that way if the cable gets bent the connection can't break.the way you just overlapped them is fine as long as they don't get bent or stressed as in a housing.but for something that will be flexed those overlaps will break from fatigue roger

Very informative video on soldering surfman. Thank you for sharing this info, and on the 25 watt soldering iron, Terry.

this is a very old thread... but one piece of information that folks might find helpful. Do NOT ever use plumbers solder for electrical work. You need rosin core solder. It's readily available at any hardware store and is 'self fluxing'. Acid core flux will, over time destroy the connections. Great for plumbing but for electrical work.... not so much :)

If you do this to one thats " water proff " I'd suggest using liquid tape over the shrink tape.
    Just my thoughs 🤷🏿‍♂️

Witam z Polski nie każdy tak potrafi paprać zamiast lutować .Dość miejsca jest na puszkę i polutować w niej i zalać steryną , dla mnie to jest masakra

Friend, see if you can help me, I went to open the coil of my detector but I didn't mark the position of the wires. Is there any way I can do a test to find out where the wires go in the detector. My detector is an etrac. It has two boards, two wires come out of each board that go to the coil. I can't find which one is the right wire. Thanks

I wouldn’t know with an Etrac. I mostly do Excalibur’s.

Does anyone know the 4 pin pinout for at pro. I have a nel snake that I broke one of the pins off and I have a Garrett sniper bad coil. I just want to cut the good connector from the sniper and put it on the nel. Here's my issue though. The nels wires aren't color coded. The garrett sniper has a solid white w/ shield, white w/ red stripe w/ shield and a separate green wire. How do I splice these together?

No, the wires are copper after all. Seems to work fine.

Does the coil not detect the solder?

    • @monstertruckess
      @monstertruckess 4 роки тому

it would also detect the copper wire if that was the case; NOrmally it only detects the metal that is moving in regard to the coil so as long as it's wrapped around the shaft and doesn't move when swinging, it should be undetected

    • @NeverSuspects

it detects magnetic fields technically. As magnetic fields in flux will generate voltage on conductive materials and coiling conductive wire aligns and amplifies this effect and then those signals are monitors for signal patterns that have been tested with that coil to indicate the specified material is present. So solder if it remained stationary relative to the coil would not create any change on the coils potential to signal any detection.
