Just happy u found that market. Hawker Chan is famous for soya sauce noodles not roast pork. I find it too sweet. The pork dumpling is wrapped in bamboo leaves n d nyonya one uses pandan leaves.

    • @GideonicGaming
      @GideonicGaming 2 місяці тому

@@maocat6606 Maybe bamboo leaves are expensive there. I have no idea why either. I only know that it's a bit sweet in Indonesia bc ppl put sweet soy sauce with the pork stuffing. If I have to be honest, that one is a bit unfortunate that it looks as dark as soy sauce. Usually it looks more into light shoyu color or a bit brighter in color but idk how it became that deep dark brown color on that hawker. It caught me off guard tbh.
Xiao long bao is always my favorite on rainy days and will always be. Cheer to you guys. Maybe next time try those mochi with banana milk and I'm sure you're down with me, Jay.😆

You should take a spoon to scoop your rice to eat. Those are soy beans braised in the soy sauce. Thanks to the uncle to remind you in mixing the noodles with the sauce. I was about to tell you over the screen LOL! I wonder why so many western bloggers don't mix before tasting. Same for your drinks. Mix them up first before drinking as the sugar/milk is at the bottom! Stir your chicken porridge to mix the pepper etc.
Dip both types of xiao long baos in the black vinegar (it's no soy sauce, soy sauce has a salty base) and ginger strips. In chinese the fried version is called shen jian bao.
That's just ginger puree with the chicken rice. No garlic in it. The chili sauce would have garlic in it. Yes, you are right. I tried Heng Ji chicken rice and find it quite plain. I prefer the other stall next to the glutinous rice dumpling stall you were queuing LOL.
Don't put the cutleries directly on the trays as it is not hygienic. Actually you guys don't have to keep changing your seats. Leave a couple of tissue packets on your tables and go and order your food.

I guess we are just used to having our different parts of the meals separate 🥲 Thank god that gentleman told us how to eat the Char Siew Noodle properly!
Thank you for all the little hints! For you as a local it might all seem obvious but we really try to do our research first before entering a particular place/food area, and even if we had done that, there's always going to be something that we would never known of unless someone tells it to us 🤪

@@JayeshChhaya Singaporeans are generally friendly, you can ask the hawker on the proper way to eat the food 😊 or even the people in the queue

    • @simplyme3306

No worries, there's always a next time :D It's also for your viewers who happened to watch your video and read the comments and tips :) Oh ya sometimes as locals we would even encounter getting asked or asking the other person sharing the table to help keep the spot as we step away briefly to get a drink or something. Though usually we just use tissue packets or umbrellas even bags and employer's pass. Some places you would even see people use their mobile phone or wallets (not encouraged). This way of reserving seats we call it "chope". It's especially helpful for individuals having a meal as otherwise it would be difficult to search for a table while holding a tray of hot food.@@JayeshChhaya

@JayeshChhaya Aye, some of us don’t like to mix food together. And We want to have control over how much sauce to be added. You are fine eating the noodles like that, I would too lol. I don’t like too much sauce, especially if I am not familiar with the dish…One you mixed them you can’t reduce the saltiness level.

    Hey guys, welcome back.
For chinese food with rice, if it's on a plate (chicken rice that you ordered), use fork and spoon.
If rice is served on a bowl, eat with chopsticks.
    That's the "rule" is general.

I usually find a seat at the edge of this Hawker Centre because I sweat a lot while eating hot food. It is way cooler on the edges because it is very stuffy inside, the edges got better air flow. There are more than 250 stalls, it is like a maze inside, very easily to get lost. Those going there, do take note.

About the coffee and tea, hot water is added to dilute the coffee and tea by default. If you want your drink to be more dilute (more hot water added), add on the word 'Poh' to your order. If you want your drink to be more concentrated (less hot water added), add on the word 'Gao' to your order. A special level that I recommend but at your own discretion is full-on strength (no hot water added). For this level, add on the word 'Ti Loh' to your order.

If you enjoyed Chinatown, why not try a more local area like the residential areas "town centrals" like Ang Mo Kio (literally a circle) or Toa Payoh Centrals (literally a square) via the MRT (red line or north-south line) ? Or maybe Kovan food center (Purple line), next to the old bus Interchange (which have been relocated only 2 MRT stops away, Hougang).
Each of these 4 "town centrals" easily have at least 2 food courts and at least 5 coffeeshops & many other places to eat & shop.
Hint : try not to cross any major roads (except for 2 lane carpark roads) as to stay within the centrals...

    • @JayeshChhaya

Thank you so much for such amazing recommendations 😍 You see, we filmed some of the Hawker Centres in our upcoming videos like Margaret Drive / Holland Drive simply because we did more research and heard from locals to go there but it's way more difficult for us to find such hidden gems you proposed without being a local 😇 We noted them all now!

@@JayeshChhaya Actually I made several recommendations to other youtubers (some invited me along but I declined to be in the vids). The more common feedback was they had more "adventures" trying out the "walkabouts" in these towns with "non-English" names.
Maybe the thing note is that most MRT stations outside the main Central Business District area stops at most town Centrals or nearby one. But most of the buses stops or end at a Bus Interchange in the town Centrals (except for Kampong Bahru which is near/after Chinatown). So if you have like 1 or 2 hours and want a seat, try taking a bus to the "ends" as all bus stops in Singapore have a bus route chart that shows all the buses at the bus stop and names of each stop. Most bus routes take approx 45 minutes to 90 minutes from end to end. So like if you just had lunch and it is drizziling, why not take a bus to one of these towns (takes max 1 hour unless bad traffic)
Look out for buses that end at these town Interchanges
      - Yishun, Pungol (north)
      - Jurong, Clementi & Boon Lay (west)
      - Pasar Ris, Bedok, Changi (East) Changi Point (Furthest East)
      - Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Toa Payoh (central)

True! It's quite sweet itself which we liked but we found the sauce a bit overpowering 😝

for the chicken rice, you have to order chicken thigh.. you probably ate chicken breast which is why it was bland

If you are still in Singapore, don't miss the golden opportunity to visit bazaar Ramadan @Gelang Serai.. Lots of food in one concentrated area. You will get to experience the Malay and Muslim culture there.

I’m under pressure to film a video in a very difficult place to film and Karolina is helping me to carry the food as I’m holding a camera and so it’s not easy for me to hold the trays one handed and film with the other hand in such an environment. We are partners as you have said and we are both helping each other at all times. I’ve created a situation where Karolina doesn’t have to work her soul sucking 9-5 office job and can now travel the world with me - so it’s a little unfair to say that I’m treating her poorly don’t you think?

Don't understand why foreigners just eat any food without mixing it first, just like the satay gravy. When eating chicken rice, you should eat it with a fork & spoon, not chopsticks, because it is served on a plate not a bowl.
