- Track 6 from their excellent second album “Get Ready” released in 1969 copyright Rare Earth Records. The band was formed in Detroit in 1960 and after releasing an unsuccessful debut album on a different label, they were signed to a new division of Motown dedicated to producing white rock acts. At the band’s suggestion, Motown named the new label “Rare Earth Records.” Pete Rivera’s voice was one of the most powerful in rock and he was an exceptional drummer, backed by a band of equally outstanding musicians. They recorded this epic version of “The Temptations” hit “Get Ready” written by Smokey Robinson and included it as Side B of the album. A drastically shortened version of the song was released as a single the next year. Their biggest hit, it outperformed the original released four years prior and reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went Gold and was awarded Platinum status in 2000. Recorded from the original vinyl. Written by William “Smokey” Robinson and produced by Rare Earth. RIP John Persh & Gill Bridges. Featuring:
Peter Rivera - Lead vocals, drums and percussion
Rod Richards - Lead & rhythm guitars & background vocals
Kenny James - Hammond B-3 organ, electric piano & background vocals
Gil Bridges - Sax, flute & background vocals, lead vocal on "Magic Key"
John Persh - Bass, trombone & background vocals
Never met a girl could make me feel the way that you do
(You're alright)
Whenever I'm asked what makes my dreams real, I tell 'em you do
(You're outta sight)
Well, tweedley-dee, tweedley-dum, look out baby 'cause here I come
I'm bringin' you a love that's true (get ready) get ready (get ready)
I start makin' love to you (get ready) get ready (get ready)
Oh, dontcha know I'm comin' (get ready 'cause here I come)
On my way (get ready 'cause here I come)
You wanna play hide and seek with love, let me remind ya
(You're alright)
Lovin' you're gonna' miss and the time it takes to find ya
(You're outta sight)
Well, fee, fi, fo, fo, fum, look out baby, now here I come
I'm bringin' you a love that's true (get ready) oh, get ready (get ready)
Start makin' love to you (get ready) get ready (get ready)
Dontcha know I'm comin' (get ready, cause here I come)
On my way, yeah (get ready, cause here I come)
Well, if all my friends shouldn't want me to, I think I'll understand
(You're alright)
Hope I get to you before they do 'cause that's how I planned it
(You're outta sight)
Well tweedley-dee, now tweedley-dum, look out baby, now here I come
I'm bringin' you a love that's true (get ready) get ready (get ready)
I'll start makin' love to you (get ready) get ready (get ready)
Oh, dontcha know I'm comin' (get ready 'cause here I come)
On my way (get ready 'cause here I come) mmm-hmm
(Get ready 'cause here I come) oh-ho-ho
(Get ready 'cause here I come) get ready
(Get ready 'cause here I come) get ready
(Get ready 'cause here I come)
I love red earth this is the best old school music in the house
Now this is what you call a jam session. The amount of sweat I just broke out into playing air drums.

Rare Earth + Motown '70 = Breaking down the barriers of American apartheid...one single at a time!
Not sure just what year this was, but this sure sounds like 1969-1970 music that I love!!
