I never got to see them with Sonny, but I caught them and the T-Birds one night at the Cotati Cabaret, same bill, with Gene and Hollywood Fats. I never went to a better show, ever.
Superb, saw Sonny in Utrecht during a 'Blues' Festival and he tore the place apart...What the heck, he said in the dressingroom later, what kind of festival it may be, I'll knock them out!!
@DjElSemtex Hey Dj,I saw them at Tipitina's in New Orleans in ' 82,(Dave Alvin said a lot of Lee's old N.O.buddies from Fats Domino's band ,etc.were there backstage that night,and what a night it was) and then again in Chicago about 2?yrs.later. I also saw Hollywood Fats with them in Sept.of ' 86 (again in Chicago). Fats was supposed to be with them in N.O. that Dec.but passed away not long before,luckily Dave Alvin rejoined the band and saved the gig!
@100proofboogie : thanks! I thought so :-) When did you become that lucky, to see them in the original line-up? For me it was in the summer of 1985 or 1986, don't remember exactly anymore but it was with the classic linee-up, including the two Alvins, Gene Taylor and the late great 'Chinaman' Lee Allen.. :-)
@DjElSemtex Yes it is,(a year after your post,you may know this already) The DVD is titled "Going Home" and is great from start to finish.The original Blasters and Sonny Burgess! What a treat. BTW I agree with your comment about Lee Allen. I was fortunate enough to see him twice with the Blasters.
Too bad Lee Allen couldn't be here, but I'm sure he watched this smilin', sitting on his cloud up there... :-) Thanks a lot for posting this, is this from an official dvd-release?
