- With the announcement that Roger Moore would be driving a new car model in his third James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), CORGI produced a cast white Lotus Esprit model that was immediately acclaimed. Meetoy incorporated many moving parts into the toy that matched its on-screen counterpart. You can turn on subtitles in your language in the video.
Designed by Marcel van Cleemput, the Lotus was on the cover of the 1977 CORGI catalog. CORGI's Lotus Esprit retail sales became an instant hit when it was delivered to toy stores in July 1977, which coincided with the release of 'The Spy'. who loved me ', selling 660,000 units in the first six months.
As a result, CORGI had its most profitable year ever in 1978, with overall sales of a staggering £ 3.5 million. The James Bond Lotus Esprit finally became the best-selling CORGI model since 1973, selling over 1.3 million units, until its recall in 1981.
My model was badly devastated, had a twisted body and broken windows. I was able to buy windows from a flea market that fit this model, but did not have holes in the rear for rockets. I made these holes and put new panes into my model. I also renewed the wheels and replaced the axles. I gave new decals and made a new box from the first year of production because it was the most beautiful in my opinion. Thank you for watching the movie, I publish videos with the repair of cars on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
I have this casting, one of the few Corgi castings from my childhood. Awesome restoration!
Thank you very much
An absolutely stunning restoration!! Excellent work especially with all of it's moving parts!!
Thank you very much Tom
I have one of these sitting on my shelf next to my moon rakers . Missiles are jammed. Good memories playing with it.
Cool
Paul your work is next level!!! From fixing the stepped on roof and pillar, to custom fitting the window and rocket mechanism and making the rockets. Plus you finish with your wonderful box work, that almost steals the show from the actual piece. Keep up the amazing work you do.
Thank you very much John
i have sat and watched 4 videos just today and it took my mind off being ill and off work and put me in a very relaxed satisfied place. Truly fantastic and obsessively perfect in every way. You can see through just your hands HOW patient and precise your are. Its an easy10 out of 10 from meeeeee!!!!!!
Thank you very much
Incredible work on this restoration... especially with all of the moving parts of it!
Another MASTER CLASS in refurbishment - You make it look so easy Paul ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you very much Peter
This gentleman's dedication to his craft deserves 20xs the likes I could give.👍
Thank you very much
Wow!
I just found my old 007 Lotus the other day and now I wish I had half the talent you have restoring it
Wow! My brother had one as a kid. Being a younger brother I loved that toy and played with it whenever he wasn't around since it was his favorite car to play with and didn't allow me near it. This restoration is very well executed. You went even further by making the box for it as well. I had forgotten that one but when I saw the end result it came back to my memories. Compliments to you!
Thank you very much
I also had a little brother who wanted to play with my James Bond Lotus. Notice I use the word hard.
I love the Lotus Esprit best...when it comes to Bond cars. And my favorite Bond is Roger Moore. What a great talent you have to be able to fully restore and box this beautiful Corgi. 👍🏻
Cool
Great job... made Q very proud.
Thank you very much
Dang... nobody does it better... (makes us feel sad for all the rest)
without exaggeration. Kind regards
That was a very cool classic project 👍 I liked all the lathe work making the missiles for the back. Great job as always my friend.
Many thanks
This was my favorite toy growing up and is currently in the next room.
When the drawing for the rockets popped up on screen, my breath caught. Haven't seen one since 1979.
It was a real pleasure seeing you bring another Lotus back to life.
I see that one was well loved too.
Thank you very much
Wow absolutely amazing work Paul. I love your videos
First class workmanship 👍
Wow!!! You are incredible. What an awesome restoration. Way to go Paul. 💕😊💕
Thank you very much Joalla
I got rid of the wheels on both mine, just smoothed the bottom of looks mint....no screws or fixings. You may need to recheck your rear fins as they should lie flat when closing rear bumper
That is a very unique model for your collection. Beautiful restoration.
Thank you very much Larry
Certainly the best box you’ve made! Incredible work brother!
Panie Pawle kolejny Sztos na liscie.💪💪💪💪
Super model i oczywiscie wykonana nad nim praca.
Great restoration Paul! Nice you got all the features to work!
This is amazing a pleasure to watch This model is so complex! I have one in 1.18 scale This is my favourite Bond car Love the film too The car chase and sound track and when it dives into the sea and transforms...wow! Excellent resto Also the box is out of this world So well done!!!
This brought back memories. Saw the movie in the theater with my dad, he was a huge James Bond fan.. Thank you
Cool. Best wishes
Blimey! The box looked nearly as complicated as the model. It's a beautiful finished job - well done!
Thank you very much
Stunning restoration, Paul. I always look forward to the moments when you recreate the lost or broken parts.
Many thanks!
Nice resto on the 007 Lotus Esprit Paul, turned out great with the decals and box graphics.
Thank you very much
Paul, as always your work efforts are superb. Fantastic restoration. You are a Master craftsman. Great techniques that can be employed on any model rebuild. Keep up the good work efforts and thanks for posting the video for all of us viewers.
Thank you very much Robert
Hey Paul This is James I Like the James Bond Model Cars you doing . I was born in 1972 when those Movies Started coming out. There's nothing like the original James Bond.
Hey James, I'm a little older than you, but I started watching James Bond films around the same time as you, because in the 1970s they were unavailable in Poland and I also became fascinated with Bond films from that period.
It is a beautiful car
The restoration was great
I love James Bond 007 movies😍👍
Thank you very much
That box work is just absolutely spectacular. Nice cherry on top of the cake making that box. Who would even think to do that?
Thank you very much
Congratulations..... The best restaurations
Thank you very much
What’s great blast from the past. I owned this car as a kid. Lost the missiles in like two days, but played with it for years. Great job on the restoration.
Thank you very much
Awesome work! I would love to have something like this as part of my collection!
Thank you very much
It’s mesmerizing to watch you work. Attention to detail is off the charts.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you very much
👍🏼 as a retired 20 yr locksmith, i can attest to the need for attention to detail and I totally respect your approach to your projects!
High quality detailing as always!!
Totally amazing. I used to have this car as a child, still had it a few years ago but gone missing in a house move 😭
I think the new rockets are too long, I remember my original when they were pushed into the tubes ready for launch they would sit almost flush with the rear screen. However that is a minor observation for an incredible restoration!
Thank you very much
Wow what an amazing job, as always. I remember so wanting one of these when I was little but we never had the money. Absolutely brilliant. 👍👍👍
Thank you very much Neil
A complex model but still no problem for you Paul. You have built up great arsenal of tools to achieve an excellent result
Thank you very much
I used to have one of these where the wheels actually flipped up into the bodywork, Im not sure of the manufacturer.
It didnt have any 007 decals on it. It was the early 80's.
Amazing to find one with the missiles still with it!
Great restoration 👍
Thank you very much
To be honest I always thought this was naff as a model, not a car but instead a sub.(and non-submersible!) so you couldn't zoom it. But one with real wheels! That flip up!! If I were a child again, I'd go for that.
This is one of my top three Bond Cars.
cool
Beautifully done -great job 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Great job Paul,I wish I had your skills! And like always, the box turned out awesome 👌 👏 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Fantastic-beautiful Job !!
Thank you very much

Thank you very much
As always a masterful job at restoration thank you for sharing your talent with us
Thank you very much Andrew
This was an amazing transformation Paul. I never would have given that car a second look just because of how badly damaged it was. This car turned out fantastic 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Echt super geworden. Wirklich der Knaller. V.a. die Herstellung des metallernen Rohlings für die Raketen. So genial. Ich glaube, filmen und dabei restaurieren ist sicherlich nicht einfach. Macht so viel gute Laune, so ein tolles Video. Keep up the good work.
Vielen Dank
Brilliant very detailed with the working parts, thanks for the video
Paul ☘☘
Many thanks!
Paul you are amazing beautiful restoration well done 👍.
Thank you very much Adrian
Probably the best one you have done! I loved the way you made the rockets!
I used to have this model as a kid, and the back end was damaged on mine and the rockets were also missing.
Thank you very much
Great Great work as always.
Seeing those rockets take off , at first I did not think it worked , but it is awesome to see in slow motion!!!
SOOOOO KOOOOOLLLLL !!
You hit it out of the park Paul .
Mike Espo .
😎👍👍😎😎😎😎
Thank you very much Mike
Wow, I had one of these as a kid - thanks for the great video and memories, amazing restoration 👍👍👍
thank you very much
Yep, me too... I think the torpedos/rockets were orange, and I was so scared to lose one, that I crawled through the room right after every launch to get them all back!
@@stbausms ha ha - I feel your pain, we had to get them back in case the cat or dog got hold of them too 😂😂😂😂
Man this absolutely brings back memories I had one of these
Cool
Same here 🇬🇧👍
Excelente trabalho Paul. Parabéns!
Muito obrigado Mauricio

Thank you very much
I had one of these when I was kid. This video brought back so many happy memories of my childhood. Thank you for making amazing videos!
Cool, Thank you very much
That was quite a battered example when you started, great restoration as always :)
Many thanks Jim
I had one of these as Christmas present in 1977 when l was eight l was so excited to get it. I still have it today in its box although the fins do not retract
Cool
Had one back when I was 'Knee high to a grasshopper' so to speak... Oh them were the days, flicking out the fins, and firing rockets... They'd go everywhere and sometimes were hard to find under chairs and sofas lol, I then got given for Xmas, a larger version too... Had so many working craft, Space 1999 Eagle with centre section that could 'drop', UFO fighter with firing rocket from the nose, and loads more.... Oh, the 70's and early 80's.... THEM were the days! 🤔😊😊😊👍
You've an excellent job there fella, nice one! 👌 😎🇬🇧
for those small items that were lost behind sofas or generally, I always found it was best left to adults to find them, usually in barefoot and then they would signal their success with the hopping dance and accompanied by multiple profanities. 😉🤣
@@johndaarteest Ahhhh yes.. Those fond days of the Parental Tribal 'AAAAAGHHHYASONOFABITCH' dance, often widely associated with the errant brick known as Sharpius Legolii. 🤔🤔😏😉
This has stirred some long lost memories. I used to have one of these
Cool
Caroline Munro was the actress in the helicopter. Great job. The car looks better than new.
Thank you very much
Nice work
Thank you very much
Another classic brought back to life. Mine (that I still have in excellent condition) must be a earlier one as it has the correct license plate of PPW 306R.
Thank you very much
the replacement windshield just magically appears from outta nowhere.
Who else could here the James Bond theme while watching this
I hear Carly Simon singing “The Spy Who Loved Me”
I played the theme on another tab while watching! 😁
I could hear "nobody does it better , makes me feel sad for the rest , nobody does it , half as good as you , baby your the best . .
Yep, but the classic one played by the big orchestra with lots of brass
I can hear Q in the background, "Now, pay attention, please..."
Great job Q...... James Bond will be happy 👍👍👍
Cool. Thank you very much
Otra obra de arte y nada menos que de la película James Bond sige así eres grande y un profesional
Muchas gracias Jose
Una vez más: Bravo, maestro!

Thank you very much
Awesome.
I actually had this as a kid.
Thank you very much , cool
When it comes to Corgi model restorations...Nobody does it better than Paul Restorations.
Thank you very much
Przy prostowaniu takich elementów trzeba było lekko podgrzać metal żeby nie pękał i nie łamał się
Niestety przy znalu to się nie sprawdza.
Brilliant video! I had one when they came out and the RED 007 bonnet sticker wasn't on the original ones so this is a Version 2.0 one, also the correct registration is PPW 306R as someone in the comments pointed out. I remember in 1977 mine took along time to arrive at the local shop so my mum bought me the silver Aston Martin while I was waiting... I ended up with both Result!! oh and Elon Musk bought the real one......
Thank you very much
yeah i owned this little car, when i was a kid!
Cool
