  • With the announcement that Roger Moore would be driving a new car model in his third James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), CORGI produced a cast white Lotus Esprit model that was immediately acclaimed. Meetoy incorporated many moving parts into the toy that matched its on-screen counterpart. You can turn on subtitles in your language in the video.
Designed by Marcel van Cleemput, the Lotus was on the cover of the 1977 CORGI catalog. CORGI's Lotus Esprit retail sales became an instant hit when it was delivered to toy stores in July 1977, which coincided with the release of 'The Spy'. who loved me ', selling 660,000 units in the first six months.
As a result, CORGI had its most profitable year ever in 1978, with overall sales of a staggering £ 3.5 million. The James Bond Lotus Esprit finally became the best-selling CORGI model since 1973, selling over 1.3 million units, until its recall in 1981.
My model was badly devastated, had a twisted body and broken windows. I was able to buy windows from a flea market that fit this model, but did not have holes in the rear for rockets. I made these holes and put new panes into my model. I also renewed the wheels and replaced the axles. I gave new decals and made a new box from the first year of production because it was the most beautiful in my opinion. Thank you for watching the movie, I publish videos with the repair of cars on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Paul your work is next level!!! From fixing the stepped on roof and pillar, to custom fitting the window and rocket mechanism and making the rockets. Plus you finish with your wonderful box work, that almost steals the show from the actual piece. Keep up the amazing work you do.

Wow! My brother had one as a kid. Being a younger brother I loved that toy and played with it whenever he wasn't around since it was his favorite car to play with and didn't allow me near it. This restoration is very well executed. You went even further by making the box for it as well. I had forgotten that one but when I saw the end result it came back to my memories. Compliments to you!

This was my favorite toy growing up and is currently in the next room.
When the drawing for the rockets popped up on screen, my breath caught. Haven't seen one since 1979.
It was a real pleasure seeing you bring another Lotus back to life.
I see that one was well loved too.

To be honest I always thought this was naff as a model, not a car but instead a sub.(and non-submersible!) so you couldn't zoom it. But one with real wheels! That flip up!! If I were a child again, I'd go for that.

Had so many working craft, Space 1999 Eagle with centre section that could 'drop', UFO fighter with firing rocket from the nose, and loads more.... Oh, the 70's and early 80's.... I had one of these. I wish I kept it instead of giving it to my Sister’s kids.

This is my favorite one you’ve ever done. This is beautiful. I’ve loved this car and the film growing up and you did fantastic with this.
