How to Take Better Photos of Insects for Identification

  • In this video I teach you a simple way to take better pictures of insects. The technique is simply and can cost you as little as $10. The technique requires the use of a hand lens (aka loupe). This technique can help you take clearer pictures of smaller insects when partnered with your smart phone.

    There are lenses that can attach directly to your phone. They are around 10 dollars would probably make taking pictures a bit easier.

      Taken a few images of pinned specimens and ‘dead’ finds. Good initial results with varying size specimens. Need to pay attention to lighting but pleased. Thanks again, simple tip, why didn’t I think of it.

      Thanks I got that bee from my bee hive I think the workers have started throwing there males out into the cold. I can send some more pictures of other insects i have some time ( :

      My Chinese mantises are starting to get old one of the males died. Soon they will all start going the females should last a bit longer.
