"Knee" was a pretty good answer to the corn question. After all, everyone raised in farming country knows that the corn should be "knee high by the fourth of July".
I said 'coffee' to the last head-to-head question : )
Greg is a good panelist and seems a good bloke, as well.
A little bit of a cold spell on the head-to-head matches after C.B. was defeated...
So I thought I'd look at some other stats:
So far, there have been *246* head-to-head matches altogether!
Amazingly, Richard was chosen *88* of those times, or 35.77% of the time!
Second is Brett, chosen 20 times, for 8.13%.
Next is Betty, chosen 16 times, 6.50%
Jo Ann Pflug, Charles, and Bert Convey were chosen 15 times each.
Of those 246 H/H matches, 81 have been successful (contestant and celeb match).
That gives us an overall success score of *32.93%*
So far, Bert has a slightly better than average score, and Richard and Brett are below average when it comes to actually matching the contestant in the head-to-head match. Just looking at the raw data, it would seem that Betty, Jo Ann, and Charles would be the best bets for a contestant (Orson has only been chosen 3 times, so it's hard to put much weight in such scant data.) But, as we know, it's not raw data that counts, but a contestant's "feeling" -- and most contestants "feel" like they have the best chance with Richard.
So far, we have 20 celebs who have been chosen, but have never matched. I'll add that list at the bottom. Of note, Nipsey Russell has been chosen the most (6 times) without a match yet. Many of the names on the list are celebs who only appeared a single week, so will never earn their match, although Nipsey will down the road.
Here's the updated accuracy leader board for the 7 celebs to have scored 3 or more matches so far:
Orson - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts).
Betty - 50% (8 wins in 16 attempts).
Jo Ann - 46.7% (7 out of 15 attempts).
Charles - 40% (6 wins in 15 attempts).
Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
Richard - 29.5% (26 wins in 88 attempts).
Brett - 25% (5 wins in 20 attempts).
Here are all the celebs who have been chosen so far without matching (in alphabetical order):
Lucie Arnaz - chosen 1 time
Kay Ballard - chosen 1 time
Bob Barker - chosen 2 times
Larry Blyden - chosen 1 time
Joyce Bulifant - chosen 1 time
Jack Cassidy - chosen 2 times
Bill Cullen - chosen 1 time
Stephanie Edwards - chosen 2 times
Nanette Fabray - chosen 2 times
Arlene Francis - chosen 1 time
Dick Gautier - chosen 1 time
Larry Hovis - chosen 1 time
Ruta Lee - chosen 1 time
Robert Q. Lewis - chosen 1 time
Meredith MacRae - chosen 1 time
Mary Ann Mobley - chosen 4 times
Jaye P. Morgan - chosen 1 time
Nipsey Russell - chosen 6 times
Kaye Stevens - chosen 1 time
McLean Stevenson - chosen 1 time
*These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 215, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.
Around 4:35 you can see the ink mark Richard put on Brett's hand on "yesterday's" show!
She didn't wash her hands? I saw it closely around the 19 minute mark.
@@pencils812 When Jo Ann Pflug drew the mustache on Gene in an earlier show, mention was made at how difficult it was to wash it off. Since these shows are filmed back-to-back, there may have only been a few minutes between some tapings (long enough for everyone to change clothes and go to the rest room) and she may have washed her hands a couple of times without being able to remove the ink.
I would have said the answer would be, "Hi C", but I guess it wasn't so famouse in the mid-'70s.
Yes, it was well known in the mid 70s. But"Hi C" was my second thought. My first was "Hi and Lois", which was a pretty popular comic strip. (Beetle Bailey was Lois Flagston's brother!)
It definitely was popular in the 70s.
Richard shows a lot of class covering for Brett here by making self deprecating comments when selected for super match. Brett was visibly upset she wasn't called. They waited a long time to bring in the spinning wheel.
I bet Brett was glad she didn't get that first one. Too many good answers and little chance of giving away any money. I thought of "June" and "lady" which matched no one (not the contestant, not Gene, not Richard). The second one where the contestant took Brett's suggestion and won $500 only to choose Richard for the head-to-head match was also pretty hard ("_________ Jones"). I think Brett dodged a bullet both times.
"Hi Ho" is the dwarf song from Snow White, "Hi Yo silver" is not that.
They gave that to her.
True.
I guess “high ho silver” is the same as “high ho it’s off to work we go”
Ironic, as it was actually "Hi-YO Silver, AWAY!" and "Heigh Ho" is the name of the Dwarfs' song.
@@gerryu21220 That was definitely a gift. It was "Hi-Yo Silver....." officially.
Bogus.
Hi- De-Ho
Song by Blood Sweat &Tears
I always thought Anne Meara was so gorgeous.
In the 1960s and 70s, a highball was my dad's favorite drink 🍸 at a party, Thanksgiving 🍗 or Christmas 🎄 we had special tall glasses in a special cabinet in the dining room for those.
Very nice.
according to Wikipedia's entry on Greg Morris, it appears that he was not fond of the first Mission Impossible film and that he walked out of it....
Free spirit flying! ;0) ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! :0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! :0) He sure didn’t hold his hand like that when the said it.. ;0) camera in shot.. ;0) mouse.. ;0) No response to Gene’s answer. ;0) Is this when Brett starts complaining when Gene gives other that it is a good answer but doesn’t say anything good about her answer.. ;0) I did?
That wasn't really a match but Richard pushed it and they left it alone
Hi ho shouldn't have matched hi ho silver.....
Panelists:
1. Greg Morris
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Anne Meara
5. Richard Dawson
6. Ann Elder
That woman's daughter Nicole is over 46 years old now.
Yep her daughter would be 52 now.
Well once again Richard won the week for the regulars giving away 7,850 dollars in head to head and audience match match 16 matches. Greg match 11 times for the semi regulars.. Brett gave away 1,000 dollars and Charles gave away 500 dollars in audience match matches..
Definitely the last show of the day, you can see the "fatigue" setting in.
Tough day at the office huh?
Sounds like Johnny Olson was a little put out with director Marc Breslow…….long day of shooting, tempers flare!
On this date in 1981, The tv show Match Game PM aired its final episode.
😣
Gene's southern accent on the corn question sounds like Tim Blake Nelson.
Hi YO Silver Away!
Hahaha!
Blank bug would be VW
Q: "_______ Jones."
A: Indiana!
_Raiders of the Lost Ark_ premiered in 1981, so apparently Indiana Jones couldn't have been an answer in '74.
@@Echognomics101 ....hence the implicit sarcasm in my comment..🤣
Decan Jones...
It is hi ho silver...
Richard, an Englishman DID NOT come up with the rightful answer of 'TOM JONES'??? There has got to be a reason that he chose to have a 'mental block' on That name. LoL
Insult to injury….Buck Jones? Some obscure western film actor who died in 1942?
🎶🎶 "It's not unusual!" 🎶🎶
"Hi Ho" means something very different 44 years later.
This episode easily was the worst case of trash talk that interfered with game play - and the episode with the smallest readable answer! And I would have said stomach bug for the first HTH & Casey Jones for the second.
What does with slate mean?
It just refers to the clap board at the start of the episodes.
She tells the black guy: I'll report you to the NAACP. damn.
Hi-Ho should not have been a match. They didn't show the word 'Silver', and The Lone Ranger said 'Hi-yo' Silver, anyway.
Lee looks a bit like Reese Witherspoon.
NAACP?! Wow that would get you thrown off the show now!
Bread talks too much always talkin more than anyone else
2-20-2023.
Richard Dawson was a camera HOG. Richard had to be funny over the others, my opinion. Don't hate me.
Worst episode ever.
