I once traded a 32" CRT TV for a rust free 86. It had a v6 and sounded like a tractor. The TV and the Camaro died in the same week. lol Someone gave me 500 bux for it.
I always temporarily bolt my Cam sprocket onto the Camshaft to install it. It give something to hold onto and maneuver with. For me it really helps to make the Cam install better and easier.
I'm doing a gen 3 4.8 "ls" swap right now and I used the Holley WB11009 oil pan and only had to cut the windage tray as directed and it fit fine. I'm also using the Holley LS swap motor mounts and trans crossmember. I'm using Speed Engineering long tube headers. The clearances are good on the oil pan. I've got the engine and trans mounted in the car but now need to start the joy of wiring.
@CharsWigg Holley Black Heart mounts with stock Crown Vic mounts and I am using a stock harness I depinned. E38 ECU (Stock) tuned. S-10 swap headers. For now the Gen 4 truck intake with 50 pound Truck Flex fuel injectors. I am also running a BTR RedHot cam.
@CharsWigg I have been making videos for my grandkids to follow if your interested. I'm just getting the accessories on the engine to start it on the stand in a weekish maybe 2
Your the only one I've ever heard have a problem with motion raceworks. They always are super helpful and have amazing customer service. Plus everything ive ever ordered has fit perfect.
I ordered a set of NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs from Amazon and I believe they ate counterfeit I will be going to the parts store Monday and comparing them.
The incompetence of the suppliers is mind blowing. I was considering tackling a project similar, but I wouldn’t even be prepared to recognize the wrong parts. I would think that I was doing something wrong and finally after a lot of stress might then realize I have a wrong part. These companies that make these massive mistakes need to be put on blast so people don’t ever use them again.
You definitely picked a nice car to do the swap! Don’t get discouraged, I will stay away from Hawks. Knowing they are going that direction really sucks. There were fewer 90 models made, it has the new style dash with the original IROC ground effects, and being a hardtop V6 car, I would think the chassis would be perfect. Unless you’re in the rust belt. I’ve never watched your channel before, so I don’t know what part of the country you’re in. Look up the 3rd gen guy’s channel. I can’t wait to see your progress.
Oh I feel your pain … I bought an oil pan from summit for my hellcat swap back in 2021 being told that the oil pan at the time was the only oil pan available for rear sump for a dodge dakota other than a custom made pan from moroso that would have to be built to order and could be 6 months to a year to get done and has to be paid for up front before they place the work order and at the time they wanted $850.00 for the pan and the custom pick up would be another $200.00 also pre paid and once in the schedule it can not be cancelled and NON- REFUNDABLE and a custom windage tray because you cant use the factory gasket/tray that adds another $175.00 and $45.00 for gaskets x2 all total $1315.00 plus shipping because it is a custom order part (free shipping on in house on the shelf parts) oh and lets not forget the oil pan bolts if I remember correctly $45.00 for them so $1360.00 holley had not come out with a pan for the swap at the time and the only other manufacturer that made one was miliodon it was called a "touring pan" $650.00 for the pan $150.00 for the pick up and you can use the factory windage tray/gasket ok so I order the miliodon gets shipped free from summit racing I get it look at it ok yea and I continue to get parts I need for the build ...well here we are in 2025 I am going to start the build I am behinde scheduale because of having to purchase a home and move was hectic to say the least...I digress....so I get the engine and 8hp90 up on jack stands from the engine hoist I install the swap mounts eng&trans put it on the stands and proceed to do the other parts to change out for the swap the coolant tubes on the back of the supercharger and double pin the crank reinstall the harmonic balancer bolt with the upgraded bolt from Mopar (149 ft lbs torque and 150 degrees just information) now time to put the oil pan on... get the factory pan off clean the pan rails move the pick-up support main cap bolt buying a new one from Mopar and had to by 10 standard main cap bolts because that's the only way a dealer can get main cap bolts and you have to buy 10 to get one because they don't want 9 on their shelf hoping 9 people will come in and want one.. at this point I am like give me the 10 I don't care ( the 10 main cap bolts cost less than the oil pan bolts I had to get mind you) ok everything is swapped and torqued to spec go to put the pan in place and it hits the starter not by much but it hits it and as I have it held in place with a few bolts I notice the drain plug is right dead center against the bottom of the bellhousing for the transmission...so I call summit racing and explain to them the issue (I already know they are not going to refund a 4 year old part that's on me for not doing it when it came...) but I told them when I bought this pan I was told by Steve the salesman it fits and clears everything should not be an issue I even measured the trucks cradle to make sure it would fit without hitting the cross member and said ok but the pan rear sump area hits the starter for the first issue and the second issue is the drain plug is against the bellhousing so you cant drain the oil unless you cut the bottom of the bellhousing out or put a huge notch in it. it says direct fitment he says...well I am telling you its not direct fit! he says oh there is an updated note let me see what that is....he says what side is the starter on and I tell him the RH side he says well you will have to put it on the left cars are on the RH and trucks are suppose to be LH mount...and then proceeds to say I should not have to do anything to the bellhousing because the 4L80e has the bolt on dust cover....I said I am not running a Chevy transmission and its not going in a Chevy truck I have the 8HP90 transmission and its going in a dodge Dakota r/t 2 wd !!!!! so I got an $800.00 pan brand new in the box with the pick up I cant use or return so I know your pain and for a good kick in the nuts I go on holley.com they have a rear sump pan with all the hard ware and pick-up for a hellcat swap into a dodge Dakota 2wd and designed to bolt up and support the transmission cast aluminum for $389.00.....so I understand the frustration...but you have the best guy you could have with you working on that.
I have built a stock Ls3 with a BTR RedHot cam and I am $4500 deep in just the engine and accessories for the engine. The cheap swaps are with $1000 donors.
Finely someone keeps it real about what it cost to LS swap a vehicle. It cost me about 8 grand to LS swap my truck. I did all the stuff your doing but luckily I got the right parts the first time. Sorry your having to go thru all the bullshit. Hopefully it turns out good.
That sucks, from what I've read I thought Hawks was a really good reliable company that knew everything about these thirdgen swaps, guess can't believe everything you read, If I'm ever able to get another thirdgen Trans Am I want some type of LX swap but not with parts from Hawks
@ A time when GM was bold and innovative. They should have brought back T-Tops with the last generation of Camaros as it would have helped with sales. @ultimatejay there are numbers on the cam and LSA head gaskets are very different i knew that right away but didn't order the parts if the rest of the parts fit probably wouldn't have known
@ultimatejay i knew they weren't LSA because I've put together 20 or so LS's I didn't know what was actually ordered because I'm not the one that ordered the kit
Its getting bad about the wrong parts. I have had this same issue on several parts I ordered. People that doesn't know what they are doing and have no clue about the parts themselves
Yeah its like no one cares about their job this company blew my friend off for months then rush shipped the parts after he filed a claim, told them the pan wasn't their fault but when I made the video I noticed the pan he got isn't the pan they offer with the kit anymore.
i piece together most of my rides cause i don’t have the cash flow to drop on parts all at once, but it helps cause i search facebook and swap meets for parts.
Yeah I think just making your own kit is the way to go, it really isn't hard to figure out what parts work well together, but at the same time some people like the simplicity of a kit but most kits dont work or are sold by companies that don't know what they are doing
Anyone selling LS Swaps kits should be proven before allowing the public to buy the bolt on SWAP kit. 😢 Sorry you’re out of hard to come by cash 💰 for this build.
Yeah its more about the time than the cash, something that should have taken a day or 2 is now a 6 month ongoing project because of wrong parts or parts that didn't fit.

I just shared this video with my 3rd Gen group. Being a owner of two 3rd Gen Camaros, I’m turned in on this type of content.
Good to hear my friend Kris has a lot of Chevy's, Thanks man
I got 3 3rd gen’s lol I need to finish one

Yeah just been moving still, has been taking a lot of time
love you guys just working on it.. no bs music and narration

Awsome build. I am doing a Ls3/6L80E in a 03'Crown Vic Police Interceptor. Its a project with my grandkids.

i did a 5.3 swap in a 89 s10 used ebay cheap holley 302-1 knockoff pan it fit fine with factory windage tray and its pickup tube
I've never seen a cam and lifter install while the motor was sitting in a pile of car litter. 😂😂
It'll be alright

HEY! Good morning Dave!!
Good morning
old I get the more i love the 70,80,90, s care, some of these cars are like electric iphones
will we ever see the dash on the hellcat magnum
Love the 80s camaro.
I have the same pan but the chinese knock off, i had to trim the windage tray a lot but it fit.
Yeah we cut the windage tray then had to smash the pickup tube to get it to fit, hell most likely get a good Moroso pan
@@Junkyard_Davenot sure if it would fit in your application but the Holly pan fit my LS2 in my 87'

So... that's why it's called a bell housing

I only buy GM parts only and ACDelco for second choice. 😅After that Aftermarket with a good reputation.

I thought you put the engine in the car? I guess the title is wrong. How's the gxp coming along?
The engine didn't go in the car because the swap kit didn't work so we have a $10k QA1 suspension kit coming to make everything work.
@Junkyard_Dave Oh ok. Well hopefully for your buddy the company gets it right this time around with the parts. What cam did he end up going with?
@PontiacsGarage it's a step below a 660 lift and it's coming from QA1 so I doubt thetr will be any issues
