There's profound emotion in this song, Love, grief, regret, loneliness. Its hard not to let the melody take you down a dark path, but once you're in a place in your life where that cant touch it anymore, this song takes on so much more meaning. Hope, determination, devotion.
One thing that puts this song above so many others is the sincerity and emotion behind every word. The way the song builds and builds with powerful emotion, right up until the end, where you can feel the hollow emptiness and defeat in his voice.
This song describes perfectly the last moments of interaction between my lover and me in the final days. Thank you Snow Patrol for this near perfect representation.

It took me about 2 years to re-find this song when I first time heard it on the radio. And I can just say that I haven't been more happy than I am right now for finding something like this again. This song is a masterpiece, and it really hit deep to me when I first time heard it. One of the best songs Snow Patrol has ever made.
just listened again to this song and at half-way through when the drums start beating on the quarter note...chills from scalp down neck and arms and back for seconds on end, over and over and over... amazing. the emotion and the words and wall of sound are so wonderful...2x in a row played back to back. not a lot of songs and musicians that can do this. what a gem.
Still with all the incredible music I have heard, from all the different types of music from dance to pop to house to chilled, this song stands upon them all!
