    Thanks a lot for the lesson Rotem! adding to the idea of the inversions to be the same notes just in a different order, really helped me to put those dim chords in a "family", that way you need to remember only 3 families: 1. B D F Ab 2. C Eb Gb A 3. E G Bb Db. The same goes for aug chords, with 4 families to know.
    Toda raba!

    I think the secondary dominant resolution ala Bach’s Little Prelude might be my favorite sequence in all of music, certainly a contender.

    I was ecstatic listening to Robben Ford’s lesson about using the diminished scale & chords, but, alas, I couldn’t make the same sounds afterwards.
    With this lesson, you filled-in some ‘gaps’, and, I find myself both, admiring your teaching/playing, AND integrating it into my playing. I guess I’m just ‘ripe’ for diminished now?

    Thanks Rotem. Interesting stuff here which I was unaware of as I normally only use the standard version which only uses the top four strings. I had some difficullty understanding the C positions but the rest was clearer to me. I have access to the pdf so I shall have a go at practicing the dim scale. I never have had Covid. Sorry to hear you have and hope you have made a full recovery.

    It's the sound of a wind chime I believe a lot of wind chimes tubes are cut to mimic the diminished chord. I think because it's easy to do the math when cutting the tube for example, your first tube is 12 in, the second tube is 9in, the third tube is 6in and the last tube is 3 in. This will give you the notes of a diminished 7 cord. Least I think this is the case. I'm just using Pythagorean logic.

    My Sweet Lord sent me on a Diminished voyage, which has now modulated into an Augmented journey. For me, the question I have asked is what other chords and tonalities do these modular forms connect. Also, using a circle of 5ths, an inscribed square is a Diminished 7 chord and an equilateral triangle is an Augmented triad.

    At 2:40 when you're discuss the B dim, the tab and notation spell a Bm7b5 (half dim), but your hand looks like you're play Ab, which would be a full dim.

    One of my personal favorite diminished things that doesn't get mentioned much is the sound of the diminished triad with an added major 7th. Very interesting sound. Somehow more "modern" but very diminished still- C-Eb-Gb-B

      Isn't that just a B major triad with it's b9 in the bass though, makes it a little less diminished in my eyes

    1st time watcher. I can play this scale, but I have never found where it fits. I was hoping you would do a jam where you use it in each of the ways you described, like maybe the ending of your video. Good job explaining it clearly.

      Dim on II V - use the dim scale on dom or the dim arp on the V

    • @nicofitz8130
      @nicofitz8130 2 роки тому +2

      Have a look at gypsy jazz. They use dims over dominant chords all the time. Best thing would be to look at V - I licks from great gypsy players or gypsy jazz YT channels. Dim runs imply V7 flat 9. So find the V chord and start a diminished run from the 3rd of this chord. It will sound diminished and imply V7 flat 9. So in Minor Swing the progression is E7 to a minor. Find the 3rd of E7: g#. Do a diminished run starting on g# and resolve to a minor. This is a perfectly common way to use it that has a cool sound and implies V7flat9.

    Hey Rotem, great content as usual! Thanks for sharing. Just one question: isn't the tab at 2:37 wrong? Shouldn't it be an A flat on the 3rd string?
