Having played Fleet, but then moved on to other characters, she's one of my favorite characters to watch. Whenever BBatts and CakeAsault are on stream I a *tuned in*. Having played the character definitely gives me an appreciation for the amount of precision it takes to play this character the way they do. The way they edgeguard is absolutely mindblowing when you've tried to do the same yourself, and gotten every single arrow stuffed by your opponents' recoveries. I definitely agree her kit lacks a bit of an "oompf" factor though. That's kind of why I ended up switching to different characters myself - I needed an unga bunga character where I could just flick the C-stick in the general direction of my opponent, cover half the screen with a hard-hitting move, and feel good about myself. I just didn't have the energy playing Fleet required. So I switched to Lox lmao.
wish up-throw could apply stamina effect. f-throw not doing it i get, that’s a long throw animation so your opponent doesn’t have much counterplay, but up throw??
My issue personally is that fleet feels awful to play as and annoying to play against. At lower ranks people spam two to three moves honestly I think because her projectiles are actually straightforward to figure out. The character feels a bit messy. She has a float, but can’t use it the same way other float characters can (for pressure/offense). She has decent anti-airs, but not a whole lot to do with them afterwards. She’s a setup sort of character, but that’s kinda hard to do and her physics feel bad and slow (for me anyways). I tried playing as her for a bit just to get acquainted with her moveset, and I wound up getting super tilted because trying to use the parts of her kit that weren’t strictly zoning felt super terrible. The character feels a bit polarized where she has a couple aspects that are really good (projectiles), and everything else about her just ranges from mid-awful.
she is simple, but very fun u dont have to commit to the annoying defensive options with the range she has, and the nado mix up and combos off side special nado are hella satisfying, and yes i agree watching this as viewer looks boring, but the person playing her its fun i can confirm as a fleet main lol
I think in general people just lack experience like she probably has lots of things that she can do because she has the float, so it's like Peach. Peach was a s*** character until Armada started getting popular and people saw what she could do I see Fleet players spamming the float at a short hop height and then doing like an aerial so it's like they know there's a thing they want to do but they just haven't figured out like how to set it up I think. Like that super defensive play style is like it's good now because people don't know how to be aggressive because they don't really understand what the characters can do but then as they understand that it will get less and less good it'll be like Toon Link in Smash ultimate, and not like morrigan in umvc3 if you're Chris G
I'm gonna be honest, as a Rivals, Ult (formerly) and Melee player, I can definitely understand where you're coming from, and I actually agree. It's just always just the tiniest bit annoying (sorry haha) when I hear people saying this when they haven't played the game yet, though, lol. I've never been too keen of the whole "as a viewer" thing when it comes to competitive gameplay. Like they're competing to win. That aside, though, I think what it mainly boils down to is that right now, Fleet can't really do much. It's one of the reasons I think Fleet is bottom 2. That's not horrible, given that the game is fairly balanced, but the some of her mechanics don't feel fully fleshed out. Getting arrows back is unintuitive and should be easier, the delayed hit from powered arrows feels a little too delayed imo, and Fleet's side special doesn't even benefit from it. The thing is that while almost Rivals 2 character feels explosive, Fleet does not. She's kind of like the annoying zoner that tacks on damage but doesn't have devastating punishes like other characters do, so she kind of just sits back and peppers you with projectiles. The problem here, though, is that she actually does have pretty solid punishes, but some of her moves are just too narrow for a lot of players to make use of consistently in combos, and her up close options can be a bit slow, so trying to open up a combo in neutral with those moves, while rewarding, is riskier. Pair this with floorhugging, and there's a ton of incentive to play lame with her. I just think that it's too early right now to be seeing crazy stuff from a character like Fleet. In my experience, it seems like defensive characters tend to take a bit longer to develop than others, so it'll just be a matter of time before we start seeing interesting stuff. She's fairly precise, and float is both a difficult mechanic to master and a versatile tool. I do think Fleet should maybe get some refreshing changes here and there, but I also think it's a bit early for that discussion right now.
I think she's fine and I believe zetterburn wins the matchup, it's kind of like fox vs peach... But holy hell when I am tilted or not on top of my things, this matchup is a headache. like she'll side b and if I go for the parry at the wrong time, I eat a lot of damage + fleet combos me.
I don't disagree. I bought the game and played mostly Fleet for the first few days and while it's true things can get properly hype at lower levels, it feels like playing her optimally is...boring. The projectile is very flat, mechanically, compared to say Lox's meatball. I swapped to Lox recently cause I t ry to play all the chars so I can beat them better and I am having a *blast* bouncing around the meatball. There's so much you can do with it and it's such a flexible projectile. Meanwhile Fleet's projectile has only a few angles and the gameplan doesn't feel like you can get creative with it or change things up all that much. With Lox you can have completely different styles of meatball usage, but Fleet's arrow/cyclone is very 1-dimensional. Love the character, but she doesn't feel as fun to play as or fight against as the other characters. Also, I think she's visually the least impressive of the cast. Her only real themed attack is the tornado - like she's clearly air-themed, but it's just the tornado and that's it. The arrows have some color to them, but not much. Meanwhile Lox is a GORGEOUS elephant - magma everywhere, the magma armor at full stacks looks absolutely sick as heck, and so on. Not that I think everything needs to be that in your face, but I think Fleet is the weakest, visually, of the cast as well. And we know the roa2 devs can design cool zoners, too - I'm really looking forward to Absa, since her cloud has so many cool interactions with it throughout the kit. The cloud can help stall, you can kick it, it has different styles of usage like Lox's meatball does. Fleet feels like she's just missing something the rest of the cast has. That all said, I do think Roa2's char design is top tier and imo Fleet is *almost* there. She just needs a lil extra something, tying the theming into the rest of her kit a little better somehow and I think it'll be good. What that is, though, idk. But you're right. Even Forsbro, who literally disappears, is more interesting to watch.
I play the game a lot and she is by far the most annoying character in the game. She is not like the rest of the cast with an interesting mechanic she just has a broken projectile and float.
Im somewhat grateful for fleet because now it's made me hate any other character significantly less by comparison 😂 Wrastor/Clairen ain't so bad when it could be worse..
I think its impossible for a floaty to be fun. Inherently, their gameplan will almost always be to just abuse their superior air mobility to bait and punish. And *bait and punish* is fucking LAME-Combine that with projectile zoning and congratulations, you have an incredibly annoying character
I main fleet in roa2 and mained peach in ssbu, i gotta admit that for me, not having a float cancel mechanic to use is almost impossible to play without, but fleet does not have a fun combo extension mechanic because she doesnt have any turnip mechanic and its hard to get used to it, i hope the next character will have a float as well and more like peach (pomme), or just have ssbu on pc already and nintendo not making exlusives already
Her forward b (arrow into tornado) kinda does the same thing as forward strong (normal arrow). It comes out just as fast and it's just defensively better to use cause the enemy can't approach for longer. IDK, having 2 of the same move but one is objectively better probably isn't great for player expression. Might be a hot take but I feel like forward b should cost one of her magic arrow resource, her whole gameplan is usually to just run away and side b from under platforms

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about lol. Peach was a top tournament character for many years prior to Armada.
