- The trailers for Battlefield 5 has been pretty polarizing. One trailer was subject to massive dislikes not unlike Infinitie Warfare, and the other showed us what we wanted to see and know. So why are gamers upset with Battlefield 5? I'll try and figure that out....

The fact that they swapped out the norwegian commandos with a mom and her daughter kinda turned me off of the game a bit. That move was kinda disrespectful to the real heroes of ww2 that stopped the germans from annihilating the west in atomic hellfire.

There were many separatist movements in many countries, still are today. They nearly picked the ones that would be friendly to them in the long term so they could focus more on Europe in their own long term goals. The Soviets and the US were no different In supporting movements that supported their goals in the cold war

That is way less aggravating given that the rising sun was the emblem used by the Navy branch, not the army or Japan itself (which is still something a lot of people are not aware of). Showing it off or not when IJN forces are in play would be a very small insult compared to the lack of swastikas, iron cross and other famous insignias on the european theater since those were, in fact, standardized.

If they were so eager to represent women, why not introduce the Soviets who had many women in their army. A woman named Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko was a female sniper in the red army, who got 309 confirmed kills, and holds the record for most sniper kills done by a female. If there have to be females in the game, I would love to try and play from her perspective, and not some random woman I know never would have been present during WW2.

Women made up approximately 25% of all Soviet partisans, i would have loved so see a female partisan in German occupied Czechoslovakia conducting guerrilla warfare the same can be said for Italy, Benito Mussolini was killed by partisans so maybe there could have been a mission titled “long live ll Duce”

As a girl myself who loves video games and have loved video games throughout childhood, I have never asked "why can't I play as a character that looks like me?" I played BF1 and STILL play BF1 and only being able to play as a man never bothered me in the slightest. If the game is good, it's good. The gender of my character doesn't matter

actually battlefield 1 had the running around the map alone, and i loved it. I loved the feeling of loneliness and despair that game portrayed. ST. quentin scar was one of the most scariest and best looking maps to date in battlefield history. I remember in the campaign when ua re in the tank and u can see soldiers just having ptsd in the middle of the field just walking all depressed. Man bf1 truly captured that world war vibe

In historical games feminists like me don‘t object to little, but realistic, representation of women. I mean, wouldn‘t you be offended more if a game about the past looks like women could do everything and weren‘t hindered by sexism at every step? The one mission that hurt me in this game was the first one set Norway to do with the heavy water. That mission doesn’t pay any contribution to the actual British Commandos who found out about the plant and what it contained. They only mentioned how they destroyed it afterwards but said it was the women that found out about the plants. Know what would have been better? Having a campaign story arch where a WW2 Nurse had to pick up a gun to survive. Using a stealthy approach and taking the clothing off of a man's body (maybe a soldier she was treating's clothes)then surviving until she can get to the allies. It is a what if scenario. For example. The battle of Amien. The German Empire is attacking the British Empire. What if Germany won. If Germany captured the vital railroad junction. France would fall and Britain would make treaty while they plan there new strategy. This alternate history. This butterfly effect makes it really interesting and scary.

@@Dennis-nc3vw accuracy would be like do the uniforms look exactly as they would in history, is the right variant of the Sherman being shown in a battle, etc. Historical authenticity means more means does the overall representation at least feel as though it depicts the event in a way that feels real, it’s verisimilitude basically. So an accuracte game would go into painful detail to make sure everything happens as it did in history while an authentic game may take more creative liberties but still reliever a game that gives a good representation of what that period was like

He did say "some games" which meant that sometimes, playing a character that looks like you does make a connection but it doesn't reassemble your personality. You can play a game where it has customization mechanics and model a character after yourself like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, the Sims, but you can't always connect with them if that character doesn't resonate with your personality.
I find it really a shame. This game had a lot of pontetial and the Norwegian Story campaign was what I was most interested in but after seeing it. They didn't even try to keep it historical accurate. They took a fictional person and gave her the credit for what actually historical people did.

But you see what the developers don't seem to understand is that, the reason I play World War II games, the reason many of us play World War II games is for the same reason we bought Battlefield I. Many of us bought it because they we're going to have one of their games take place in an era that the gaming industry hasn't really explored into that much.
Finally, we we're going to have a game that would let us experience the bloody horrors of World War I, with trench warfare, historically accurate weapons of the era and an epic campaign that would let us witness the madness of it all... But we all know how that turned out.

Well they did promote the game to be a immersive WW2 game, however when you got black women Wehrmacht in the game it totally takes that feeling of war in this specific time period away. I really wanted to get this game but I think I might not in the end.

The futuristic Call of duties had great gameplay and crazy new features that were fun. People still didn't like them because of the terrible setting.
The setting and atmosphere of a game are as important or even more important than its gameplay.
If the game is not immersive it isn't fun. If I were playing games solely for the gameplay I could just play 1 fps game over and over because the gameplay is the same in almost all of them.

In France and other European nations they did fight. They weren’t in the us or England. Extreme rare cases. Most of that is from necessity do it fell more on the European front. As someone who regularly headbangs to Sabaton, the only female soldiers I wanted to see in this game were the Russian 588th regiment, the "Nachthexen". Historically accurate? Check. Badass? Check. Actually flew recorded missions and terrified the Germans, to the point of giving them their infamous nickname? Check.

Oh boy, this is gonna be fun. So for clarification, I'm female, an actual war veteran, and happen to love the Battlefield series. Now... that said...
The only thing worse than no representation is forced token representation. The same way that when storylines feature ONE token POC, it's just insulting. It's just like... hey, here's this bone, now we're in the clear. No, you're not, lol. Women didn't serve like that in WW2. No reason to have us in the story, UNLESS you decide to go the fantasy / alternate universe route, but it's literally not historically accurate to even put a woman in the game like that. Now if they want to set up a war game with women being properly represented, then set one for say OIF / OEF era or in the future or even in a completely fictional manor, just don't cite historical accuracy and then put a token person in to just appease people, because it literally is just insulting.
Now as far as Battlefield 5 goes... I'm not really excited for it. I didn't care for Battlefield 1 either, but every Battlefiled prior was amazing ( minus the dang lobbies to find a game to play on PC, omg that's so annoying) , integrating the ability for someone to play on an iPad as well as a field commander was epic and truely was the best route to go instead of the COD model of having moronic nukes everywhere all the damn time and limiting maps. Battlefield is great for the ability to have a diverse way to PLAY the game, Not for who to BE in the game. I'm so confused by the Battlefield 5 trailers and I doubt i'll even buy it unless it goes on a massive sale. Hopefully the next will be better.
Yeah Battlefield used to be relatively realistic compared to everything else and thats what make it successful and stand out from other shooters. I want the experience of being in WW2 driving a panzer if there's a women with a metal arm and a British guy with a katana. Another big thing is them trying to make everyone have their own style, I won't feel like a soldier in a faction if no one is actually wearing proper uniforms.

Speaking as someone who is usually very feminist and pro-LGBT...the trailer was shit.
I'm not against women being portrayed in WW2 games, in fact, I'm a proponent of the role of women in WW2 being expanded upon.
However there were so many better ways to portray women's participation in WW2 than to have a British Army soldier with a robotic arm. They could have done that Russian woman who built a tank out of scratch and joined the Red Army to avenge her husband. They could have done Yugoslav partisans. They could have done the Polish Home Army, or the Dutch Resistance.
The reason I'm upset with the trailer isn't having women, I'm upset because there are better ways to portray women in WW2.
I mean the closest thing that has happened to that is an SOE woman with one leg im pretty sure j saw it on a documentary on Netflix about ppl going through soe training and there was a guy with one leg and they tell us how there was a female soe agent with one leg
