I've realized that off camera, a lot of natural hair youtubers have an actual hairstylist that's treating their hair and cutting their ends regularly. Getting your hair done regularly by a professional that knows what they're doing, will have your hair thick and healthy.

Honesty is the best policy, I don’t have issues with my hair growing but one of my daughter hair would grow wide not long but during the pandemic she started working from home and avoided salons blow dryer/curling iron and now her hair is down her back so it definitely depends on how you take care of your hair and the products you use.

The thing that a lot of people don’t understand is that your hair tells you what it’s missing through your health as well, from what medicine you take, water intake, to your diet. Some people can change what they eat and drink more water and their hair will grow and end up being healthy right along with what they are doing to it

News Flash. All Hair Grows. The one exception would be someone with alopecia. Even that depends on if it's total or not. If you have hair follicles, your hair is going to grow. Hair grows at the rate of 1/4 -1/2 inches a month or three to six inches a year. The key to long hair is length retention.

Patty please read the phases associated with hair growth. There are people who stay in the growth phase longer than others before their hair sheds which accounts for why some people can grow waist length hair and some can’t. Even if they have the same hair routine.

It’s crazy how many people are lieing about how long their hair journey took. They’ll go between 3 years and their hair is mid back. Now I know some ppls hair grows crazy fast but a very telling sign is when you can’t see the beginning of their journey or there is coincidentally no pictures or videos from the year they started. Some of these ppl started in 2013-17 and are saying 3 years or showing their 2 year mark vs 4-5 years and saying it’s “June 2020- April 2021” and it’s a couple years worth of hair.

When I went natural back in 2012 there were 4c women with loooong natural hair, more so than I see now. Cipriana Quan of Urban Bush Babes and her twin sister are who come to mind the most because they were popping back then. And they had beautiful 4c hair! So … i think the lack of representation stems from people not liking their own hair and rather than say that they put the blame on other things outside of them. I don’t care who likes my hair, my hair is uniquely my own and I won’t let lack of representation run me back to relaxers and covering up with wigs. We need our 4c community to come back and change the game. The only way to do that is to post and keep posting. Because we need that.

I agree with everything that you said.....except the part about hair not being able to grow xxx amount of inches overnight. Under normal circumstances you are absolutely correct! But "with God ALL things are possible." No, I'm not a religious fanatic or anything like that. I just have faith. And with the things that God has been showing me, who's to say that God wouldn't bless me accordingly. But, I don't believe that God would simply say, "ok hair grow now, etc." I believe that we have to put in the work and ask God for the guidance to achieve our (hair) goals. Then we can grow our hair as long and as fast as we want to. (Sorry for the rant). #justabeliever #lol

Most of us know the basics of good hair care for healthy natural hair. For instance, my lack of a deep conditioning on a regular basis contributed to my hair dryness, single strain knots and tangles. I keep starting over, big chopping but not changing certain unhealthy hair habits. So for years I kept a super short twa, but now with thinning hair I am researching the causes and best solutions that will work for me and my lifestyle. I am overwhelm with so many DIY recipes promising X amount of hair growth over X amount of time. Influencers already with long natural hair touting the benefits of a DIY regimen are questionable to me because how do I actually know if the diy worked or not. Did the person start off with short hair like mine? What issues did they have with an ingredient? Many recap there big chop journey in like 1 sentence or quick thumbnail but never give pictures or explanations of how their twa progressed to their present length down their back…the good and the bad.
True, it’s easy to get drawn in by the work fast hair growth. I focus on videos by experts: doctors specialist in hair, skin, hormones, hair loss etc then narrowing it down from there.
I now have better understanding of my hair, what it needs and what I am willing to do or use to improve my hair health: herbs, honey, 2 strand twists/braid outs, no weaves/synthetic hair, moisture/hydrating ingredients like aloe Vera, fenugreek, fractionated coconut oil, grape seed, olive oil, shea butter, apple cider vinegar with the “mother” steamer, scalp massages and distilled water. I won’t use all these at one time but keep in my “hair pantry”. DIYs with 1-3 ingredients work for me. Lastly, check product ingredients in my stash to become familiar with the the properties I need for my Type 4 hair.
I wish more twa influencers focused more on actual hair care esp. prevention instead of curl definition.
    GREAT POST! THANKS 🙏🏽

With statements like this we need to be careful in accusing someone without knowing one's experience with there natural hair. For years I watched women with 4c hair thinking how they moisturize there hair works for me, Only to find out years later that my hair was dry and had no characteristics of the 4c hair women I was watching. I had to stop watching people on the tube and relearn my hair. And my hair is not 4c like I thought it was it's actually 3c/4a curl pattern with thin to medium strands and smooth to cotton like surface texture. So yeah if you see my pass pictures someone thinking like you will definitely say the same. Many of us don't really know how to care for our own hair without watching others and thinking it's working for us when it's really not. It took many of these women sometime to really get to know there hair. So I think it's unfair to remove there experience and simply say there texturizeing there hair and they didn't take the time to learn there hair during that process hints why you may see pictures of there hair go from afro to some type of curl or have more manageability. Also I'm not stated loose curls are more manageable cause that is not experience being that I'm still in the tight curl spectrum to some and not others.

7:27 you can't. nobody can grow 2 in a month. every head of hair regardless of race grows one half inch a month. that is science. (look it up).
The reason that it seems like curly heads and very very curly heads like type 4C hair doesn't grow at that rate is because it's continually breaking off because most 4c hair type owners don't know how to retain length. retention is the key to growing our hair out.
And for those who don't know the key to retention is to keep it stretched and keep your hands out your hair.
( With diet and exercise your hair will be strong and healthy and it will grow a tiny bit faster, but not much more than 1/2 in a month.)

1/4 inch to 1/2 an inch per month is actually the average. Some people grow hair faster or slower. Most months, my hair grows 1" per month, and in other seasons (like the winter or fall), my hair grows a bit slower even though it grows quicker during the spring and summer.

I agree with everything she said except about hair and genetics. Genetics does play a huge part when it comes to your hair. It does determine your hair growth, how thick and full it is and so on. For example, in my family genetically the boys take 50% from my grandma and 50% from grandpa. My grandma had very nice, soft hair but on my grandpa side he had thick soft hair. But thinning hair starts in the mid 20's for the boys because of grandpa. And for the girls our natural hair is thick (grandpa) and soft (grandma) but again our hair starts thinning in the top and around the hair line in our 30's because of grandma that is hereditary which plays a part in genetics.

    • @mizzKris
      @mizzKris Рік тому +2

And this is where I get confused with genetics...lol. on both my mom and dad side hair starts thinning in the 20's Some go bald and I was scared but my hair is SUPA thick and my younger sister who's in her 30's now has some thick hair, too. Did we get lucky? On my dad and mom side hair doesn't grow past their shoulders but here me and that same sister is with tailbone length hair. My mom had long hair and like I said she lost it at a certain age. Girl its all confusing. Good break down though.
