Prescient Bob Dylan feeling what the world will be like, and who better than Patti Smith to present it for him? The past meets the present and foretells the future. WOW. What more could he say in person? Makes me proud to be alive today.
what a wonderful performance! For a second I thought she'd ruin it - but she made it a very touching moment, that broke the somewhat odd and venerable situation but left the song and the occasion its dignity.
A flawless performance with everything delivered exactly as it was meant to be with grace, power and humility. Thank you Patti Smith. Thank you Bob Dylan.
Thank you so much, Patti; I'd be nervous, too. You've done a fine job of commemorating the man whom I've considered our global poet laureate since I was 16 (that would be 1965).
who would'nt be very nervous at such occasion ... what an incredible touching performance ! can't fight my tears ... this performance is unique and historical ....
04mscentrum Yay! They gave her support, and warmed up-- a grande song, with heartbreaking lyrics-applicable now. Aleppo, and all. I AM 'LISTENING." OXOXOX PATTI
Patti's rendition was brilliant, although she forgot the lyrics. It was even better like this. Bob should be glad. He wouldn't sing this song that well today. The strings didn't make any harm. It is very, very pleasing to see Izzy Young sitting in the audience (2:29-2:38). He was the one who organized Bob Dylan's first concert.
The best way to dispel the question of whether it's truly literature or not, she should have sung "Maggie's Farm", and then followed it up with "Rainy Day Women". No doubt about it from that point.
Dylan receives Nobel Prize and we all stay at home, sleeping there down the web, flooded by the global entertainment... And the squares kept empty...nobody rushed singing Bob's songs. We the people just did not celebrated our poets on the streets. Are those well people-suckers aristocrats be the ones who should do it? We allow them steal even our words by no answering that since Guthrie to Dylan we are those who everyday live our poets words and insights. Now we don't support them anymore, so the plutocrats jeopardize even them, the global business takes it all. If we the people do not sing anymore our ideals to awake ourselves, should the big armed nation presidents do it for us? Alas! Executors faces are still well hidden. May we do learn not too late our song to go out and finally sing it together. Wind still blows, bro! Who sings the questions in this XXI? Thank you Patty for your descent into that luxurious hell in Dylan's name and ours. Nice european arrangements for a great budget feast... Oh, well, Ok, take my "like" too, riches of the riches! And now, I feel I better join that crying clown in the alley...
I feel Patti and Bob's emotion coming thru that song while looking out at the blank, white, naive faces of 20th century European aristocracy, as they wonder if their bow tie is on straight or if their make-up is smeared..... while thinking about how their back hurts from having to sit so straight. Make sure you don't show any emotion for your Queen and her subjects. Bob was honest by not going. He knew what it meant. They have gone to the Church of Good Will now, and he didn't want to be part of it.
But, she will admit..............DYLAN inspired her to be what she became.......same with Lennon. Even Prince bowed down to Bobby Z. No one influenced more writers than Dylan.

This is a powerful protest song and Patti Smith's performance was real. She obviously felt those words deeply. Her performance was moving. Brava!
Luv, luv, luv! How perfectly imperfect, nothing to fear Patti Smith, you sang my guts out,, thank you.
Sorry to say I never heard of Patti Smith until today. I am now a fan. Beautifully done.

magnifique Patti
quel bel hommage au maitre Dylan
elle a ému tout le monde
A wonderful performance. Her humility in admitting her nerves and her courage in carrying on were inspiring, especially in the winter of 2016-2017.

Go Patti !!!!!!!
Man I had a shitty year...She made me cry, but I don't feel better. Fuck it.
she's fabulous. i would be so nervous too!
It's great because if she can dry up through nerves we all can - the way is clear.
Edith Piaf did the same in a concert at the Paris Olympia. Everybody understood. Everybody only loved her more for it.

Minor glitch but very good. I've never seen her look so nervous.
A meaningful tribute just the same.
emocionante

Thank you - it's beautiful
... Patti Smith much more deserves to be nonored with a Nobel prize!
Sorry, Mr Zimmerman, no offense ;)
I hear ya. Talk about a poet.
Love you Patti.

wonder how hard she pushed for this? She wanted it.....she got it....as they say at The Met..."It must be PERFECT!"
Will Bob Dylan's Ghost Writers get Nobel's? Perhaps the Jews can arrange that too.
