Sharing and liking and posting the video helps me in so many ways and supports the continuation of doing what I love and the creation of video tutorials. Thank you to all that support my mission to break down creative barriers and help inspire those who wish to find joy in painting.
I begin with a 10"x20" stretched canvas. All the paints I use are acrylic paints mixed with additives to help them flow more easily. All my colors are stored and mixed in squeeze bottles for ease of use. I coat the whole surface with a thick layer of white paint. I have a shallow container of colors leftover and I add many many more colors to it. I dribble looping random abstract ribbons of colors into the bottom 1/3 of the canvas. The ribbons do not touch the bottom edge. I tip the canvas toward the bottom edge to flow and stretch the paint vertically. It pools against the edge of a plastic card I use to stop the paint from flowing away and I tip the canvas back to flow the pooled paint back into the design. I manipulate the design by dragging a flat front spatula up and down pulling the patterns to create the impression of foliage. I also do this with a bamboo skewer. I use the skewer to create spirals and push and pull leaves and add dots to decorate flowers. I love a loop of ball chain to drag out ribbons of textured paint and also to add spiral elements. I add some green to accent the rest of the colors and enhance the overall weedy theme. I forget a stem that gets added after the recording finishes, and also a few other enhancements to finish.
My "pouring" mixture is 3/4 Floetrol with 1/4 (estimated) GAC800 from "Golden" (prevents cracking and adds shine to dry artwork.)mix into it thoroughly. Depending on the paint the amounts of color can vary. I like to begin with half pouring mixture and half color. After that is mixed VERY thoroughly I add more pouring mixture until the viscosity (thickness) is like warm hone. If I want it thinner I add more Pouring mixture. If the color is not strong enough I add more pigment. When mixing colors my amounts are always estimated and then altered to get the right consistency I like. I use plastic squeeze bottles with measurements on the side. I add a marble to my bottle to aid in the mixing process. Marbles work well but exercise caution if you end up with more than one they will shatter in the mixture eventually. It's imperative (Important) that all mixture be shaken thoroughly once before using in any session the first every time! The consistency is usually medium "body" weight, but other weights are usable with minor adjustments. All my acrylic paints are mixed in advance and contained and stored in squeeze bottles. If you are not using squeeze bottles, I suggest using a container that has a tight-fitting lid or seals the container with Glad sticky wrap. I have often used the 4oz size plastic deli containers, and the paint keeps for a long time in them, but you must stir before using the mix again. Floetrol and other flow agents will rise to the top between uses. None of my acrylic paint has any added silicone. To create the pearlescent effects seen in most of my artworks, I use "Golden's" Iridescent pearl "Fine" added to colors. I add a good squirt directly into whatever I am mixing in. I recommend experimenting to find out how much is enough for your ideal shimmer.
Every day I learn new things. I will never stop experimenting, and I am happy to share what I discover with you.

@@pw9265 In the first year and a few videos afterward I di used to use silicone .( a small spritz from a spray can added just once in the midst of making a dirty cup of colors usually was all that was required- lots of videos from year 1 ) My additive now naturally make enough cells without the added ( huge )hassle of having to remove the silicone oil residue necessary to add finish coatings to the artworks .So ..Now...NO SILICON. My pouring mixture recipe is under the video if you click to show more ( under the video ) I do still love cells but I am doing less over accidental art that requires just cells to make me happy . Although I miss it often it's just not worth it for me .I literally have 750 artworks I did use silicone ...moving on..lol

You've inspired me with your approach which is laid back and fun. And 'because I can' has always been my view on life as a whole. As they say when folks ask why my reply is always 'why not'. Have you always had this freedom with paint. Do you always feel that free when the paint doesn’t cooperate. I’m so new at this and am afraid of the result Will I lose that fear with time

    • @efluidartstudiopriscillab
      @efluidartstudiopriscillab  5 років тому

I have always and fortunately for me been encouraged from before I can even remember to create with the unlimited freedom and support. The fear is a fear of failure and self-judgment you do not need to listen to. There's some truly freaky and ( personal opinion) not overly attractive ( polite version) art the art world embraces as valuable ( don't ask me to speak my mind about this)...so my opinion is I am not yet free enough but I am for sure headed in that direction for as long as I live . I recommend kicking fears but down the road. The fear is useless you must visualize to the fun you could be having if you could stop expecting to fail. If its ugly is just a stage to the butterfly/swan it could be if you are unafraid to play!!!! So yes, I strongly believe you will lose that fear in time and also that what you choose to believe is the strongest influence in your life so choose your focus to be on what is wanted and what IS appreciated. We do it because WE CAN.

I have probably a stupid question, After a pour has been manipulated into how you like, is it possible to sprinkle a little extra fine glitter onto it? Will the glitter even show in the paint or will what I am afraid of happen that the glitter will shred up the cells and make them disappear?
The reason I ask is because I am planning to do my first pour and I have the colors I want and an idea for how it will go, I got a black canvas and I want to do a deep space looking pour (being my first pour, I know it won't work due to not knowing exactly what I am doing, but I got my fingers crossed), and when I imagine the image, I see some light sparkles throughout it with 1 or 2 places having a bit more concentration of glitter.
Am I asking too much of such a wonderful art craft?

I don't use glitter so I am not your expert but I will say if you sprinkled glitter on something expecting NOT to see it would be a very tall order. I think you will find success. For me, Less would be more. You can't take it back once it's stuck to anything moist and everything will be moist. Idea... wait until after the artwork has dried and use some floetrol of a matte or gloss pouring medium where you want the glitter and ( still...less is more) but if you got too much you could still wash it off if you were quick.

@@efluidartstudiopriscillab Thank you, I was thinking in terms of small sprinkles here and there. As a card maker and crafter, I understand that glitter is the a gift that keeps on giving and giving and giving. Weeks after using the tiniest bit, vacuuming, I will still see it on the carpet or desk!

Question, the white paint you put on the canvas first, does it have any additives in it at all? Or strictly just paint? Thank you, I'm watching all your videos.. Amazing they are!

Thanks so much 😊Unless I am specifiacally doing a "bloom " recipe all the paintsI use are always always mixed exactly the same with the exception that both teh balck and the white are half artist loft and half colorplace semi gloss latex housepaint. After that they are mixed as mentioned below the video with the same pouring mediim mixtures as all the other colors .Look at recent video for the updated recipe.

So pretty and unique! Is it possible to turn your camera around so that we can watch you create from your perspective? If not I'll just continue to turn my phone upside down hehe

Thank you...I am afraid there is no way to alter the perspective of the camera. As it is its balanced precariously to be able to record what it does record.

I like your weedy garden....some recognizable form but still abstract. I need to pick a structure/design before I begin or I don't seem to be happy with results.

Pricscilla, just moved to Palmetto Fl , question for you can I. Use and keep my paints in the garage or will the heat wreck them, I appreciate your thoughts !

I don't really think you can keep your paints in the garage .I left mine out overnight in the shade and they fairly well blew up when I tried to open them.I do not advise it ,no.
