It only took VW 3 days to bring back the Van after Doug asked for it. New boss levels achieved.
🤣🤣🤣
My thoughts exactly when I saw the video come up 😂😂
I came here to write exactly this!
Daddy Doug never disappointed
It’s an odd coincidence, but the Transporter never went anywhere. It was just discontinued for our market, and there’s no guarantee that they’ll be selling this thing here.
I'm not a van person myself. But I think this is pretty cool. I especially like how the center console removes. I remember back in the 80s how we could literally re-arrange drivers, passengers, etc, without opening any doors of the car. Or even going down the highway on a roadtrip (well, not the driver, of course).
Didn't expect to see you here David! I'm sure all of us over at your channel would love to see you add one of these to your EV collection when the NA model is available.
i think that will rattle like crazy
@@berenmowrer740 EVs are trash
I have an 01 Odyssey, which has a folding center console table thing, it's really convenient to be able to dump all the things on the console and then dash into the back to move around. So I like this too.
The center console of my 2012 Town and Country is removable too. Great to get out the Cherrios after the grand chiildern go for a ride.
You know what... if they make a Westfalia version of this with AWD and long range, and a popping top with integrated solar panels, this could be the coolest van ever.
The two tone look is a requirement for this vehicle. It's such a legendary look and any others would just look weird. Love it!
I hope they offer fun og colorways like the red and white
@@alexandra6864 i hope there's a paint option that lets you do custom 2 tones in case they don't offer what you want
I'd rather paint it with flowers
I hope black is an option to the white
@@alexandra6864 As a european I can tell you the two tone colors
White and lime yellow
White and orange
White and dark blue
White and green
So no red unfortunately.
I can't wait for things like this; An EV that isn't trying to be a performance car.
nissan leaf, chevy volt, mach e (non gt), to name a few.
@@gengraador399 He meant a COOL ev.
Yeah, this thing screams fun, even though it's also a very sensible choice. What a package.
I might actually buy this even though I usually like my cars fast and sporty.
@@natebit7167 I mean, I don't really care if it's cool, haha. The leaf and bolt seems like my current top picks. But what I'm really holding out for is something like the older Toyota yaris, but EV; just a well-built egg that moves XD
Dude for real
Wow I'm watching the event live and of course Doug has the car already. You're the MKBHD of cars.

It's hard not to be in a better mood after listening to Doug. His enthusiasm, energy and excitement are utterly infectious. Cheers Doug, long may you point out things like diamond patterns with such glee, it sends you to a better place.
I've seen every video Doug has done in the past 3+ years, and I'm still blown away by how thorough and informative he is. I learn so much watching these videos and am a better-educated consumer as a result.
Thank you!! I sincerely appreciate that.
You should also watch Scotty Kilmer! He is opposite Doug demuro where instead of reviewing cars he talks about what cars to get what not to get historical information on all types of cars etc etc. check him out 👍🏼
Oh yeah o forgot to mention that he is a mechanic
@Doug DeMuro I can feel your enthusiasm, not just dry info (which is often after the manufacturer like). Great channel. You should be proud of it.

Happy to see Doug being the first couple to review the new cars. Car UA-cam is finally getting recognition
It has been like this for years dude

Definitely one of the first in the USA or first outside of Germany! here in Germany some Car Journalists and even a few German Car UA-camrs were able to drive it BUT with a VW Guy sitting next to them and on a closed Road.
However this explains why this one has a German License Plate, i guess VW has to do Paperwork with US Car Laws first before People can drive it.
Very happy for Doug and i hope VW keeps giving him this Access in the Future as well
Prost & Cheers from the Bavarian Alps
Something else cool about the "Buzz" name is it seems to tap into the "bug" theme the VW Beetle has.
The Beetle and Bus are definitely some of the most iconic cars VW has ever put out, and in a lot of ways they're quite similar.
I think Buz would have been a better play on words.
@@kignacioyes that’s right buzz is kinda cool for a ev I think !
I have watched 4 reviews of this vehicle. Yours is, without exception the best. You spend time identifying the subtle details and deft styling, which other reviewers either ignore, miss or identify marginally. Thank you, superb analysis. You are also typically American full of enthusiasm, bonhomie with an amusing manner. 👍
Honestly this looks like one of the coolest EV’s, the VW van was always a more laid back vehicle and THIS just makes so much sense.
Doesn't make sense in America unless they give it an ICE. Can't explore the country and camp out with an EV.
@@drewchilds3027 why not?

I initially started watching Doug from a car enthusiast perspective, but now that I'm getting older and will soon be in the market for a new car, I've started realizing just how informative and in-depth his reviews are... Good work Doug!
No God DeMuro they don’t reply to you because you are rude most of the time.

Found your channel yesterday at random. Very good timing. Moving to Europe to be with my wife next year and we'll need a vehicle. This is right up our alley! Need room for the babies and the MIL. Excited that VW brought the vans back I've missed them terribly!!!
“buzz” is exactly Doug’s sense of humor!
You can always tell when Doug is excited to review a car, just from the intro
This was a concept car at the 2001 Detroit auto show and has been promised to us every couple of years since then with various powertrains for over 20 years. 20 flippin years!
You're totally right. I was there to see every iteration.
Yeah I remember seeing the concept in the early 2000s, I wonder if we’ll ever actually get these in America.
This van is the biggest tease ever....I've moved on despite her lifting her skirt every couple years.
Good things come to those who wait
And people think Tesla is slow.
This is the most beautiful car design I have seen in a while. I may say love at first sight.
as a strict sedan driver in the US, I absolutely love the old school vw bus and I am very much considering this
Why are you a strict sedan driver? I've always wondered who buys those and why
It's a cool-looking van for sure. It's probably going to cost way too much.
Especially if the microprocessor shortages or supply chain issues keep up. It would be nice if they offered an AWD gas or gas hybrid model
@@NightMotorcyclist My thoughts too, But I dont think they would
@@gamernerd7139 They really should though considering the current state of things a hybrid model would be the best of both worlds, just take the tech down a notch until the semiconductor issues go away. @Dobbies Revenge who the fuck cares
its going to be like the jimny, new slick design, and for sale at a mere 55000 -60 000 dollars due to scalping here in norway, and no, im not joking with that pricetag

Very cool overall design, although I think it's a HUGE miss not being able to remove rear seats and that they don't lay flat. Clearly aimed as a 'people mover' and not an adventure vehicle.

agreed. i was sold until that point.
Perhaps in a year or two they will add that feature.
Except for the fact it only holds 5 people.. they really messed up when it comes to the amount of seating this thing has.. if it could actually hold a lot of people i would have already had this baby ordered..
Doug last week: They should build the VW bus!
Doug this week: This is the bus!
Yeah the timing is a tad curious. Like maybe they saw his video and were like....alright let's unveil it!! ORRRR my Doug-spricy would be that he knew it was coming but wanted to be seen as an all-knowing oracle from that video.

To have the windows come that much forward whilst conforming to modern safety standards and crumple zones is quite the accomplishment by VW. Very cool.
Might be why the US model is delayed
@@q1joe lmao, since the European regulators are relaxed and chill?! 😂
@@fjt99 Different series of crash tests to EU testing
@@fjt99 Actually, they are about a lot of things. US has tougher roll-over regulations than Europe. Europe also has crash-test rules with pedestrians, which the US does not. US rules about airbags assume that the passengers are not wearing a seatbelt, where European rules assume that they are. European frontal crash tests assume the barrier will give way (like hitting another car) whereas the US tests use a barrier that won't collapse (like hitting a concrete wall). That means different front-end design (this VW Buzz might not pass American regulations, which might be why they don't sell it in the US).
Then there's the silly things--American regulations say that windshield wipers must clean x% of the windshield, which is a larger percentage than Europe. American cars must have side reflectors--not so in Europe. In Europe, turn signals must be amber--not red, not yellow, not clear. And so on, and so on...
Even though the window is forward. The seats are much farther back almost like a hatchback providing much crumble zone just like a hatchback
For the US long version, this is what is needed.
1. Full length glass roof
2. Removable 2nd row
3. Rotatable front seats
4. Fold flat back for sleeping
5. AWD
6. Late edition: vehicle to home charging 7/11/22
@Nobody I think you are wrong. I want this to be snow compatible. AWD just increases the versatility.
Since this is based on the ID MEB platform, it will most definitely have the glass roof and AWD. At least on some models. The second and third rows, will probably fold to have a uniform flat space, just not flat to the floor. As for #2 and 3, we'll have to wait and see. Two years will be here before we know it.
@Nobody Of course they do.
That said, the EU version will get AWD, and it will come in a camper version in a few years.
I'd skip the glass roof though. Just another source of creaks and leaks.
6. No electric bullshit and an awesome V8 or W12 engine instead.
Absolutely right, shall come enabling more space and adventures enabling features/camping or otherwise, it is just a suv with different shape
Doug... Thank you for the detailed overview of this new VW. Thank you for the content!!!
I love this van so much!!!! I love all the Easter eggs and quirks, the shape and style. It's a great build!!!
Only thing I don't like is the screen to change the volume of music and the A/C
I wish they sold the short wheel base passenger in north America! It's very cute 😍
I'm not a VW fan nor am I at all into the VW Bus, but I gotta say I like this one. The center console alone offers so much utility that I am starting to wonder why every other car manufacturer is not doing something similar.
well often there is vents to the backseats coming through them wish I guess requires piping
They used to, but everyone dumped them in favour of SUVs
The Vanagon's had both that tunnel that you could walk to the back in or the armrests on both sides in the GL model. If you wanted a center console you could have one made because nobody was thinking cupholders in the 80's.

I rented one in Hawaii last summer for vacation. It was supposed to be a 1970s one but that had an issue so we got one from Brazil that was from 1990 or something. Everyone stopped us to talk about it so it became our third family member. It was so fun.
Thanks Doug I really enjoyed watching this video.
Another quirk I couldn't help but notice was that it has a pair of Bridgestone tires in the front and Continentals in the rear. Weird to see a mismatch on a brand new press vehicle.
Great video as per usual Doug!
Did you notice he was wearing overalls for his shoes?
@@Locutus , that and he’s finally taken my advice about throwing down a little pad for his knee when he kneels down.
Nice catch lol
Number plates are also wrong.. In Germany the number plate with the TÜV badge (Thats the green round badge between H + ID) needs to be mounted to the rear of the vehicle, this one has it on the front.
I seem to remember them doing that on the new GTI to make it feel more fun through the corners. I can't imagine why they'd do this on the van unless its something to do with traction vs rolling resistance.
What impresses me the most is that this vehicle was clearly made with a lot of love and attetion to detail.
Just like all German cars
@@Anonym-kd5wf not most modern ones
I doubt that.
Yeah but they couldn't fit this one with the same brand tyres - fronts are Bridgestones and rears continentals lol

Doug, Love your enthusiasm. :)
Love it! I cannot wait to drive one. Coolest van out there.
I love how manufacturers are finally moving away from having every one of their models super aggressive and sporty and making them actuall look good
Haha... Yeaaaaah (look away from BMW please)
Man, I wish VW would reconsider bringing the short wheelbase version to the states. This would be the perfect vehicle for city living small families.
Agreed. I don't want a bloated version. Don't need three rows for a commuter. In spite of what Doug says they apparently think it's only going to be Honda Odyssey buyers who want these and not the rest of us.
I thought the same thing. Really like the way it looks here, fairly sure a longer wheelbase will sully the appearance.
@@diego04cr2 They are considering a "California" model where that extra space would be useful for extra motors and battery range. Pop top with a sink, stove, bog/shower. and bed would sell very easily.
@@johnkempf1808 I don't doubt that would sell, I just personally have no need for a bigger vehicle than the one I see in this video.
The world just thinks we like everything big over here.
Doug was really high on caffeine for this one, it felt like i was watching at 1.5 speed
His voice, tone, inflections and modulations are all-over-the-place!!!
They should sell the short version in the USA as well, for those who want a cute smaller van and don't need the 3rd row, but can make use of the rear cargo.
People mover*
Americans feel sick when they see a car that's less than 5 m long.
They will. Doug was a bit off. The SWB model in the US comes with 6 seats. The LWB model in the US comes with 7. This is from the official reveal.
Because small battery in a big continent is a good idea?
The rear seats will probably fold into the floor just not second row.
9:18 *"Meaning the extra wheelbase of the long wheelbase model will come between the wheels."*
That's a truly revolutionary thought...
Sometimes you have issues like on the Lexus RX350L, which only have added behind the rear wheels...

Hopefully this brings vans back in style cuz they actually make a lot of sense. If you want a small pickup truck with a lockable bed and room for passengers you end up with a minivan 🤷♂

No human can naturally sweat as much as Doug. I’m guessing cocaine.
It has a cup holder! What a mearvelous design! I'm buying it instantly!
Probably gonna buy this in the future!, it looks very nice, cozy and practical.
It looks great although.. I feel it would've been nice that the design team took a bit more inspiration on the OG headlights and did them with a modern circle pattern to give it the old school vibe from the original.
I don’t think they wanted to go full-retro, it was meant to look kind of futuristic but with some references to the past. They already did full retro with the Beetle in 1998. Not every person who buys this wants a “cute” face on their van.
that's what i thought as well!
Exactly my thought. They needed a circle roundy headlight like the old version. The one they have now is Honda-type of headlights
Blows my mind anyone would think the logo was more important than the headlights. It looks like a generic van. The headlights are what make the beetle and the old bus cool.
At least have the VW emblem light up
Fun fact: "Buzz" is how people in the British town of Blackburn say "Bus". It's a small market, but VW is definitely going for the Blackburn car buyer.
21:00. Good point, good call. 👍 Thx Doug. 😁
23:46 that's the same storage or it's an additional one. Meaning can you access the same thing from top from driver or front passenger position or it's an additional compartment?

Doug don’t care. He rockin shorts, tan lines, and white visible socks like a boss. Keeps the focus on the content. Thanks Doug!
Especially with this colour, it reminds me a bit of the Espace F1. All the diamonds only reinforce that 😂
Part of the reason the cargo area is so large on the version reviewed here, is that there will be a 3-row short wheelbase model with seating for 6 (as opposed to 7 on the long wheelbase version we will get). There probably isn't much space for cargo with the rear seats in use, but that is pretty consistent with other 3-row Euro vans. You can actually tell this is part of the plan, as you note the same colored pockets as the front 2 rows in the rear to function as armrests just below where you pointed out the profiles of the ID. Buzz in the cargo area.
Yep. Same as we get the 3 row Nissan E-NV200 here. If it wasn't for the seats not being fold-flat or removable, this would be on my shortlist for a new vehicle in a few years.
Exactly, I think not allowing the seats to be removed is a big no-no in a market where you are not offering a cargo version in the US. VW could have killed two birds with one stone.
@@lmlmd2714 holy hell you cant even fold flat the seats????? what is the point of this thing, church bus?
@@RZRBLAZ yeah, fixed second row seats is a huge miss. Really limits the camping and cargo options. Yes, we can build a platform, but getting the seats out of there would transform this. VW needs to fix this in later model years.
One of the coolest EVs so far. I’m loving everything VW is doing on that front. And to me the perfect form factor of what a practical EV should be. EVs that look like sedans are just silly…
?
It’s like trying to make sedans into coupes, but they almost never look right
Honestly, Volkswagen can have some fun with EV designs if they really wanted to. They could make an electric Golf similar in appearance to one of the earlier generation Golfs, kinda like what Honda is doing with the “e” that is based on an older Civic. They could even try and take on Jeep by making an electric version of the Thing (181) to take on the newer electric off roaders being released by the likes of GM and Jeep. They could even crank up the novelty factor to 11 by reintroducing the Beetle as an electric car, possibly styling it even more after the original, complete with a frunk.
I agree vans, hatch backs (compact) are the best daily platforms for EV. I think sedans still have their place for being sportier and can still sit 4 or 5 people.
What I do think is silly is the faux SUV/CUV EV - which don’t really offer any benefit for space, compactness or handling performance.
"EVs that look like sedans are just silly"
...So just ignore an entire demographics of people who don't have families or a need for an EV minivan? Talk about closed-minded.
I love it. I wish the US would allow this to be sold in the USA .
Definitely will be saving my money. Hopefully I can get my hands on one!
The original Volkswagen Bus was very popular here in Brazil where it was known as Kombi, being used even as public transport. It was produced until 2014 when it was discontinued due to government safety regulations.

ugh not funny nor remotely original
Grew up in a 1976 red and white VW Bus. Absolutely loved that thing. We traveled all over the country in that thing. We slept on homemade mattresses and used seat belts….maybe once.
The arm rests, open space between the seats and high position reminds me of my old Safari van. I loved that van! I had an electric cooler between the seats plugged into the cigarette lighter. Perfect for long trips.
This is so awesome. Love the shape, love the vibe. Those 5 spoke wheels are a nice addition to the ID lineup.
I still wish they had gone with the round headlights as it was on one of the first prototypes they had designed. It looked so good and helped it look modern and retro.
I had the earlier model and travelled everywhere in North America and lived in it too. I always regretted selling it. Little did I know that VW would discontinue it. Maybe it's nostalgia but I prefer the earlier model.
Doug is the type of guy to request a new VW bus then post the new VW bus in his next video
He seems to enjoy teasing/trolling us? It reminds me of when he said he didn't review modified cars, then posted Suki's Honda S2000 (though this is cooler)
@@michaeleaster1815 The 2 Fast 2 Furious S2000 was probably because it's a famous car. They'd only give them to established entities like magazines, and didn't see how these UA-cam videos could reach a wider audience. Now they're finally starting to catch on and let Doug do these types of sneak peeks, which Doug is probably ecstatic about.
The designers definitely had Van life in mind with many of those features. Square walls for building cupboards etc, centre console day fridge replacement/ pet bed, plenty of roof rack options, storage cubbies and attachment points are just a few of the cool things that make Van life more enjoyable.

I love this design, I’m not a van person by any stretch, but I certainly like what they’ve done here. Now wait for VW to overprice the heck out of it …
They won't, wait a little bit the price will come down. Its because of chip shortages
Not only that, you have to approach a VW. dealership to buy one. NO, THANKS.
base model will be under 60k
love it though the 2 biggest issues i have is the lack of stow ‘n go equivalent. I hate GM but that feature in a van is amazing and a must. in addition: i live in arizona and i don’t see any rear vents which would be an absolute nightmare for people in the back
Wow, can't believe Doug can stand up under the tailgate. I'm 6'-3" and was thinking this would be too small, maybe not!
Doug' excitement is contagious. I feel like I need a van now :)
Yeah,not an electric one tho
$$$
@@ibamuad if the range is good then why not. The price needs to be right though

As soon as your said the rear seats can’t be removed I changed my mind about wanting one.. the cargo also would have been nice. Since there’s no fronk on the long wheel base hopefully the front is even flatter like the original bus instead of having a more modern front end.
Maybe the US extended length version would have a removable seat (or fold up against the front seat ala kia) ? Losing that job xtra hauling capability would really hurt.
13:04… holy crap!! Marshmallow Steering Wheel!!
Doug is the type of guy who asks where the stretch comes in *for a longer wheelbase* and then states that it's BETWEEN THE WHEELS as if that's revolutionary.
Come on man!
Look at vehicles like the Expedition Max, and you can see that the stretch can often come in rear overhang beyond the rear axle. The Max has a 9" longer wheelbase, while being 13" longer overall. That extra is in the rear overhand. In fact, in many cases, it's easier to change the rear of the body and chassis than the drivetrain dimension. Honestly, it's most notable that there is no change to the rear overhang. It was a valid question from Doug.
@@JCintheBCC wheelbase change can only come from a change between the wheels. Otherwise, it's overall or total length being changed.
@@PetersPan24 You´re a lawyer by any chance or just need to be right? Wheelbase change yes. However many LWB versions do stretch wheelbase and rear. Having a longer wheel base AND stretching the rear overhang at the same time are not mutually exclusive.
@@riddlerandsa8161 wheelbase is an important spec for a car. That's why VW says - "the wheelbase will be longer", not - "the overall length will be longer". Doug, a car guy, purportedly asked where the wheelbase change would take place. That's a laughable moment coming from a car guy to VW engineers.
I'm not here to prove I'm right about anything, but when someone describes an overall length change and says it's a wheelbase change, I'll point it out.

I'm on the mailing list for this car. I sure hope it comes in 2024 like the website says.
why would they make the hood so long and not just combine it like the cybertruck
I would totally get one, the rear seats not going flatter or able to be removed is a big killer imo.
💯 % agreed.
